John Vera stops Cleotis Pendarvis in opening round

Wahlstrom (22-1-2), fighting out of Finland, was coming off a loss by decision to undefeated Irish starKatie Taylor this past February at famed Madison Square Garden in New York City. The skilled Finn has been the WBC titlist since 2015 and this was her fifth successful title defense.

Jeffrey (17-1-1, 1 К.О), a former IWBF world champion from Brooklyn, was riding a four-fight win streak going into last night’s fight against Wahlstrom.

Wahlstrom and Jeffrey are both tactical, pure boxers who fought that way last night, going back and forth without either being hurt. He has a lot of holes and me being the more experienced fighter, I plan to expose some of those holes.

 

 

 

 

“Back in May of 2016, I fought and undefeated opponent, Jerren Cochran (11-0-1), and I knew it was an audition for Roy and RJJ. I came out in a full attack mode because I wanted to make a statement. ((Lopes knocked our Cochran in the second round.) I’m looking to make another statement this time around by fighting like I did earlier in my career.

 

 

 

 

“I’m faster, stronger and have better head movement than him. I’m still young but I have more life experience than him (Ornelas). Stephon Young wins WBA NABA title with decision over Tony Lopez Jr.

Erik Ruiz celebrates his upset victory

Martiniz lunged, Ruiz countered and then he slightly moved to the side, avoiding any potential. Defensively, Ruiz was far superior, keeping Martinez off balance through out the majority of rounds.

The 22-year-old Lopez, fighting out of Dallas, is coming off of a jaw-dropping second-round stoppage of Jerren Cochran this past May at the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center. The former WBC Youth Intercontinental bantamweight champion is rated No. 7 by the NABA.
“I remember growing up and watching all the greats as a young kid and thinking that’s going to be me someday,” Lopez said. “Thanks to RJJ, Neon Star and CBS Sports Network that dream is a reality. I’m a small town kid living out my dreams; I’m on the right path and the journey I am on is something big.”
Despite his opponent having an advantage in terms of their comparative amateur backgrounds, Lopez doesn’t feel that will be a factor in their fight, which he predicts will be very exciting.
“Amateurs are a different ball game,” Lopez commented. “It gave us knowledge and experience but at the end of the day, our records are just numbers. I don’t look at the numbers or the fighter, I’m only going to look at the fight because my job is to get in the ring and bring home the win.
“I’m a versatile fighter; if I have to brawl, I brawl but I can adjust to whatever I see fit. It’s going to be an exciting fight because I have everything I need to win. I’m a lot smarter in the ring and I’m coming to get the win.”
NABA rated No. 2 Залуу, 27, is a southpaw with a rich amateur pedigree background having compiled an 86-13 бичлэг, including a silver-medal performance at the 2011 National Golden Gloves Championships.
“I don’t really know too much about Lopez,” Young remarked. “I know he’s from Texas and he’s 11-1, which means he already know what it feels like to lose. Before a sold-out crowd, Эрнандес (12-4-1, 4 Kos) pounded world-rated middleweight Magomedov (17-1, 10 Kos), winning a unanimous 10-round decision (100-89 хоёр дахин их, 98-91) for the vacant USNBC middleweight title. Vera exploded in the round of this firestorm, battering the game Ruelas around, until referee Jay Nady halted the action in the sixth round. Vera remained undefeated and retained his NABA-USA title.
“I knew eventually he’d put his hands down and I’d catch him,” Vera explained. “I thank him for the opportunity to fight. He’s helluva fighter, I give him that, but I know I’m a warrior. I took some shots but gave ’em, бас. I broke him down and just kept throwing those lefts.”

In the TV opener, boxing prodigy Devin “The Dream” Haney (6-0, 4 Kos) made history as the 17-year-old – a junior in high school – became the youngest American professional boxer to fight on national television. The Флойд Mayweather, Sr.-trained Haney, fighting out of Las Vegas in front of his rapidly growing fan-base, showcased his vast skills against previously undefeated Mexican invader Jairo “El Leon” Варгас (Fernandez), unloading 14 unanswered punches for a 4-р round technical knockout victory. Nady stopped the fight without counting when a badly hurt Vargas (4-1, 3 Kos) hit the deck hard.
“I happy that I put on a good performance for my fans,” Haney commented after the fight. “My team put together the strategy to use my jab and breakdown his body. I picked up my combinations did what I was told to do.”

In a battle of Texas junior welterweights, Tony Lopez (11-1, 4 Kos) dropped previously unbeaten Jerren “Hardknocks” Cochran (11-1-1, 4 Kos) twice with lefts in the opening round and finished him off in the second, knocking him out cold with a punishing right.
“Two mores seconds and I would have finished him off in the first,” Lopez remarked. “My corner told me that, after the lefts, come back with a right. They gave me the game plan and I executed.”
