LAS VEGAS (Abril 29, 2017) – Newly crowned WBA Interim Featherweight Champion Claudio Marrero (22-1, 16 KOs) shocked previously unbeaten Carlos Zambrano (26-1, 12 KOs) with a first round knockout in the main event of Liga de Campeones de Boxeo en FS1 y FOX Deportes, Sábado night from Sam’s Town Live in Las Vegas.
There’s so many emotions going through my head right now, that I still can’t wrap how it feels to be a champion now,” said Marrero. “I won’t let it distract me, because I’ll fight whoever is the best in my weight class. I knew what kind of fighter I was going up against and I knew what had to be done. I was hungry
The fight ended abruptly as Marrero of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic threw a rock solid straight left hand that sent Lima, Peru’s Zambrano to the canvas, rendering him unable to stand and referee Vic Drakulich waved off the bout at 1:30 of the one and only round. Marrero extended a seven-fight win streak.
After being inactive for a year, of course my timing was a little off I am not happy at all with my performance,” said Zambrano. “This is a fight that was long awaited and I know Marrero has been eyeing me for a while, so it’s just unfortunate the way things ended.
I need to come back to the states and find sparring partners who can really help get me to the level that I want to be,” continued Zambrano. “For my record to be beaten at this point, its just really disappointing I have no other words to describe it.
The co-main event of the FS1 and FOX Deportes telecast ended in a sixth round TKO by hungry middleweight Nathaniel Gallimore (18-1-1, 15 KOs) of Kingston, Jamaica over Jeison Rosario (12-1, 9 KOs) de Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Both fighters came out swinging in the first round with Rosario taking it on all three judge’s scorecards. Rosario, who had never gone past the fourth round started to slow down in the fifth as Gallimore took over.
I came into the fight confident then at some point something just happened, my body started to slow down,” dijo Rosario. “I got a little tired and I started to fight a little sloppy. My plan is to go back and begin working on my jab consistently, that was my weakness during throughout the fight.
Gallimore came out of the corner in the sixth round determined to end the fight and succeeded. He dropped Rosario, but the Dominican rose to his feet, only to be dropped by a hard upper cut. Al final, it was a left hook that sent Rosario to the canvas for a third and final time as referee Jay Nady waved off the fight at 2:15 de la sexta ronda.
He was fighting really dirty the whole fight, I think he knew he was hurt early on,” said Gallimore. “I knew I had a lot more experience so I just started breaking him down round by round and that’s what got me the win. This was the first time he went so many rounds, so I think it really just got to him to the point where he was just trying to hold on the last few rounds. I came to finish him and that’s what I did.
In the main event of the FS2 and FOX Deportes telecast, super prospecto de peso ligero ladarius Miller (13-1, 4 KOs) put on an impressive performance before stopping Jesus Gutierrez (14-2-1, 4 KOs) in the eighth and final round of their matchup.
I am extremely happy with my performance,” dijo Miller. “This is the best Ladarius Miller I have shown. I was familiar with him as a fighter so I knew what I had to do in the ring. I thought I had him in the first round with the uppercut, but he was in a lot better shape than I thought. He took the punches but in the end I knew I would end up on top with the win. I’m just ready to get back in the ring and look ahead at my next challenge.
Miller out boxed Gutierrez with a combination of movement and lead left hands to take control of the first portion of the fight. Gutierrez attempted to close the distance between him and Miller, but was unable to muster up enough offense to slow down his opponent.
“Fue una gran pelea, Creo que hemos dado a los aficionados lo que querían ver,” said Gutierrez. “I have nothing but respect for Ladarius, he came out esta noche and showed what he was made of. I kept the pressure on and I thought that would be enough to get him.
Several back and forth flurries defined the final two rounds of the fight before Miller was eventually able to use a big right hand to floor Gutierrez and force referee Russell Mora to halt the fight at 2:34 into the eighth round.
The opening bout on FS2 and FOX Deportes saw former world champion Layla McCarter(39-13-5, 10 KOs) dominate and eventually stop Szilvia Szabados (15-10, 6 KOs) in the seventh-round of their welterweight bout.
I saw early in the fight an opportunity, to go for the body and that’s what I did,” said McCarter. “She took a lot of damage and was a tough opponent. I felt I could have brought it a lot harder, I had such a great training camp I wish I just would have delivered the Layla i know I can bring.
Szabados came out aggressive from the start, but the veteran contender McCarter picked her off with power punches throughout the early rounds before Szabados began to wear down and become frustrated.
She was a great opponent for me, there are definitely a lot more things that I need to go back home and work on,” said Szabados. “Total, she came to win and she showed it. I brought a lot of toughness, but in the end she came out on top.
Referee Tony Weeks deducted a point from Szabados for blows to the back of the head early in round seven before a final flurry from McCarter forced the referee to stop the fight 56 segundos en la ronda.

Chuy Gutierrez & Leon Spinks III: You will know my name!

Judah vs. Torres headlines “Knockout Night at the D”
Mar. 12 live on CBS Sports Network from DLVEC in Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS (Marzo 3, 2016) – Rising star lightweight star Chuy “El Huracan” Gutiérrez(14-0-1, 4 KOs) and his March 12º adversario, León “The Third GenerationSpinks III(11-3-1, 7 KOs), are both looking to make their own mark in their 8-round “Knockout Night at the D” co-estelar. Gutierrez is seeking to expand his marquee on a national level, while Spinks attempts to shine on his own terms despite his spotlight catching last name.
El cinco veces, dos divisiones campeón del mundo Zab “Súper” Judá (42-9, 29 KOs) adquiereJosh “Pitbull” Torres (15-4-2, 7 KOs), in the 10-round main event of the inaugural show of the new monthly pro boxing series, “Knockout Night at the D”, ventilación (8 p.m. PT / 11 p.m. Y) vivir CBS Sports Network desde el centro de la ciudad Centro de Eventos Las Vegas (DLVEC).
Presentado por the D Las Vegas and promoted Englebrecht Promotions, la “Knockout Night at the D” serie’ evento inaugural Mar. 12 will take place inside the DLVEC’s 20,000-square-foot tent, located in the heart of the downtown Las Vegas casino district, one block away from the world famous Fremont Street (200 S. 3rd St.).
The 27-year-old Gutierrez (14-0-1, 4 KOs), luchando fuera de Las Vegas, is ready to make a name for himself and Mar. 12º is scheduled to be his coming out party on a national stage. He’s rapidly become a fan favorite in Las Vegas because of his exciting, aggressive style of fighting. Chuy’s ready to spread his wings, now being showcased fighting on national television, and expand his growing fan-base.
Born in the fertile boxing town of Sinaloa, México, which produced Hall of Famer Julio Cesar Chavez, Sr., entre muchos otros, Gutierrez is making up for lost time. He was a baseball prospect who didn’t box until he was 21. “I played sports in high school, baseball was my first love, and I dreamed of becoming a big leaguer,” Gutierrez said. “Boxing found me. I was attending college at Southern Nevada and working, but the first day I walked into Johnny Tocco’s gym, Me enamoré de boxeo. I’ve watched so many greats train there and I learned a lot from them.
I have a lot of respect for Spinks, but I’m just fighting the man, not his family. His grandfather was world champion, but I’m not fighting his grandfather. I’m excited to be fighting him on CBS Sports Network.
Spinks (11-3-1, 7 KOs), who fights out of Huntington Beach, TAL COMO, is not only the grandson of former world heavyweight champion and 1976 Medallista de oro olímpico, “Neón” Leon Spinks, his great uncle is world light heavyweight and heavyweight champion, in addition to being a 1976 Medallista de oro olímpico, Michael Spinks. And young Leon, quien cumplió 28 this past Valentine’s Day, is also the nephew of former 2-division world champion Cory Spinks.
His familiar last name in boxing has been a blessing, albeit one that has also put a lot of pressure on Leon. “Things have always been that way (presión) because I’m named after my grandfather, ‘Pops,'” Leon III explained. “From the beginning of my pro career, I was put in tough fights because of my name, just tough fightsreal wars.
I got to 8-0 but that hurt me because I couldn’t get good fights. But I’ve always really been my own man. This is a very, muy, very big event for me, my family will be in the house supporting me.

Zab Judah fighting to become 6-time world champion

Josh Torres looking for upset to
Make name for himself & NM boxers
“Knockout Night at the D”, Mar. 12 at DLVEC in Las Vegas
Live on CBS Sports Network
LAS VEGAS (Marzo 1, 2016) – Future Hall of Fame candidate Zab “Súper” Judá is fighting for his legacy. His road back to the top starts Sábado noche,Marzo 12, against upset-minded Josh “Pitbull” Torres, in the 10-round main event kicking off the new monthly pro boxing series, “Knockout Night at the D”, será transmitido en vivo (8 p.m. PT / 11 p.m. Y) en CBS Sports Network live from the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center (DLVEC).
Presentado por the D Las Vegas y El centro de Las Vegas Events Center, along with Neon Star Media and Roy Englebrecht Promotions, la “Knockout Night at the D” serie’ evento inaugural Mar. 12 will take place inside the DLVEC’s 20,000-square-foot tent, located in the heart of the downtown Las Vegas casino district, one block away from the world famous Fremont Street (200 S. 3rd St.).
Judá (42-9, 29 KOs), luchando fuera de Las Vegas, has been a professional boxer for nearly 20 año. The southpaw has defeated seven world champions during his outstanding career: Junior Witter, Terron Millet, DeMarcus Corley, Raphael Pineda, Corey Spinks, Joshua Clottey y(interim champ) Lucas Matthysse. The Brooklyn native has an outstanding 11-8 (9 KOs) récord en peleas por el título mundial.
Ahora, aunque, his past is in the rearview mirror and Judah’s on a mission to capture his sixth world title. That’s what drives the 38-year-old originally from Brooklyn. “I’m very happy to be headlining the first show of the ‘Knockout Night at the D’ serie,” Judah said. “I’m always comfortable and happy in the squared ring. I enjoy the sport of boxing and have one more goalto be six-time world champion of the world!”
Debido a una variedad de razones, Judah has been out of action for two years, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he hasn’t been ready to rock in the ring. “Estoy muy emocionado de estar de vuelta en el ring,” Judah remarked. “I helped Floyd (Mayweather) get ready for (Manny)Pacquiao and last May came out of that camp in great shape. I’ve been ready to fight since then.
I’ve studied him (Torres) and he’s a hungry, young guy with a great opportunity in front of him. We aren’t overlooking him.
The 24-year-old Torres (15-4-2, 7 KOs) may not have the same name recognition as many of Judah’s past opponents, but the determined prospect from Albuquerque, NM has nothing to lose and everything to gain fighting Judah.
I believe this fight can be life changing, not only for me, but also for upcoming New Mexico fighters,” Torres commented. “Boxing doesn’t get a lot of attention in my state.
Torres is a protégé of the late 5-time world championJohnny Tapia. His brother-in-law, Chris Chavez, now trains Torres, who has been sparring with fellow New Mexican and former world junior middleweight champion, Austin trucha, to prepare for the left-handed Judah.
Torres is also a professional barber who’d like to clip Judah, por así decirlo. “I haven’t had a promoter or manager,” he explained the need for him to be a barber as well as a pro boxer. “I’ve always had to work to pay bills. It’s just had to be that way in my boxing career.
