NEW CHAMPIONS CROWNED AT NEF 22 JE LEWISTON

Pli ol 3,000 fight fans were on hand for the event, making it one of the largest crowds ever to witness an NEF event.

 

On the boxing portion of the card, Brandon “La Cannon” Bero (11-1-1) fought to a majority draw in a six-round contest with James Lester (10-9-1). Many of Berry’s supporters in attendance felt that he won the fight, but two of the judges had it even on the scorecards.

 

The headliner of the amateur MMA card saw Caleb Halo (7-3) captured the vacant amateur featherweight title with a second-round submission of Erik Nelson (2-3). On the professional side of the MMA card, Devin Powell (6-1) took home the lightweight championship by defeating Jesse Erickson (6-5) in the first round via technical knockout.

Mike Hansen is the founding member of Berserkers MMA based out of Rumford, Majno. He is an alumni of Mountain Valley High School (MVHS) where he won a state championship wrestling as a heavyweight in 2004. Hansen made his MMA debut shortly after graduating from high school, only to step away from the sport for a decade in order to serve his country as a combat engineer in the United States Army. He returned to the MMA cage in 2015 as a member of the NEF roster. After restarting his career with a record of 2-1, Hansen dropped his first bout of 2016 to Zach Elkins (1-1) Lasta monato. He will look to rebound from that loss on Aprilo 23.

 

“I’m looking forward to getting back in the cage fast coming off this loss,” said Hansen. “I wasn’t mentally in that fight, so this time around with Baughman, I’m going to be mentally focused. Jesse is a big guy and a tough fighter – and he seems like a guy I could get along with. Tiel, when we are done smashing each other up, hopefully we can get a drink.”

 

Like Hansen, Baughman is a United States military veteran, where he served in a recon unit of the special forces and earned a level-three certification in Army combatives. He is currently a member of Team Link based out of Hooksett, Nov-Hampŝiro. As an amateur MMA fighter, Baughman put together a perfect record of 5-0 and was the number-one ranked light-heavyweight in the northeast region prior to turning professional. Baughman made his pro debut last November at “NEF 20” against Matt Andrikut (2-0).

 

“Sur April 23rd, I’m looking forward to getting back in there and putting on a show,” said Baughman. “My fans from New Hampshire want to see a war – and best believe they will! Mike Hansen is a worthy opponent. He knows going in, this will be a bloody battle till the end. I have the best guys around preparing me for this matchup. Andrikut, an accomplished wrestler at the University of Southern Maine (USM) and a former finalist in the Northern New England Golden Gloves, made his NEF debut last month at “NEF jarcento,” winning via technical knockout (TKO) in a mere 32-seconds of round one. Andrikut is best known on the New England MMA scene for finishing Pat Walsh (6-2) in under a minute during their amateur meeting in 2011. (Walsh would go on to compete in the Ultimate Fighting Championship [UFC] as a professional.) Andrikut now lives in Reno, Nevada where he trains out of Conviction MMA.

 

“I am excited to come back to Maine to fight Jesse,” said Andrikut. “He’s got a great record and trains for a great team. I love the people and the atmosphere in Maine – it’s a great place! Sur Novembro 21, we will see who’s a greater fighter as we put our unblemished records on the line. I am sure we will both be ready and it will certainly be a crowd pleaser!”

 

The Lewiston bout will be the professional debut for Baughman, as well as his first fight with NEF in the state of Maine. Baughman leaves the amateur division having amassed a perfect 5-0 Rekordo. He has claimed regional championships while attaining the number-one ranking for New England amateur light-heavyweights. A resident of Littleton, Nov-Hampŝiro, Baughman trains at Team Link North in nearby Whitefield.

As the top ranked light heavyweight amateur in New England, I expect to be put up against the toughest guys around in my division.
