Most of the fight was contested at close quarters with Brooker using his size on the inside to get the better of the action. Davis had moments using his uppercut, but it was Brooker’s uppercut and body work that was the difference in the battle.

Despite scoring two knockdowns, Jerrod Miner had to settle for a majority draw with Rondarrious Hunter in their four-round super flyweight bout.

“It would have been nice to have kept that streak going, but I am not upset. I actually thought in my last fight against Luis Saavedra that I was close to getting him out of there but he did a good job in hanging in there and going the distance. It was a good experience to go eight-rounds. Yo entreno 10-12 rondas, so I knew I could go eight rounds.”

Russian cruiserweight Alexey Zubov knows what’s at stake when he enters the ring este domingo en Detroit.

For this training camp, Zubov worked with his trainer, the late Emanuel Steward’s nephew Javan “Azúcar” Colina, as he helped prepare former WBC super middleweight champion Anthony Dirrell for his recent fight.
“Everything was perfect in my training this time,” said Zubov. “I love working with Javan, he has helped me grow so much as a fighter. And Anthony Dirrell taught me a great deal as well. I will be showing what I’ve learned este domingo.”
Although he’s not taking him lightly, the formerly heavily decorated amateur Zubov says his studies of opponent Csomor haven’t revealed much he hasn’t seen before.
“I’ve watched a little bit of him on tape and he does nothing out of the ordinary. I’ve fought guys like him before who have the same style. And I always handle them very well.”
Zubov, looking to face the likes of WBO champ Oleksandr Usyk, countryman Denis Lebedev, or any of the division’s other big names, says his return to national television will be nothing like the first time. Zubov suffered his only career loss, un unanimous decision to Moldova’s Constantin Bejenaru, last April at the Turning Stone in Verona, New York and live on ShoBox.
“I was nervous. I never fought on a big show before that and I choked up,” explained Zubov of the loss. Next time will be totally different. I have been around big-time boxing on big shows enough times now. Estaré listo.”

26-year-old Smith was 110-9 as an amateur and won four national championships and two silvers and a bronze in the National Golden Gloves.
“Once I turned 21, I started realizing my fighting style was more of a pro style. I was handling guys and then they were saying I was losing on points. That’s when I realized amateur boxing wasn’t for me anymore. I talked to my coaches, Keith Jackson and Theotrice Chambers, and they told me it was time.”
Herrero, who is hopeful of making his national television debut in the near future, says he’s been fine tuning his style, while leaving all the thrills in place.
“We’ve been working on defense and not getting hit as much and on putting punches together. I’ll be trying to average 100 to120 punches a round. I would love to fight on ShoBox this year. Dmitriy Salita is looking for a date for me in mid-March. I just want to fight on TV. With my style and the way I fight, all it would take is for fans to see me fight one time and they’ll see what I can do. All I need is the right opponent. It’ll be beautiful. It will be like Micky Ward against Gatti.”
Smith also says he’s not worried about competing in his first eight-round fight.

Former cruiserweight world title challenger “Huracán” Junior Wright has been hitting the weights hard and will enter the ring for the first time as a heavyweight in his next ring appearance.
Wright (15-2-1, 12 KOs) from Evanston, Illinois, expects to come in at a muscular 225 libra. when he takes on Detroit’s Damon McCreary (15-6, 11 KOs) in an eight-round featured bout on promoter Dmitriy Salita’s special Domingo edition of his “Pelea de Detroit” series on Enero 22, 2017, en el Templo Masónico de Detroit.

“The biggest thing I learned in that fight is to relax in the ring. When you’re relaxed, you are more aware in there and can pace yourself a lot better.”
Wright’s trainer, Rick Wilson, says the decision to gain 25 libra. gives the fighter, who he says can still get down to cruiserweight’s 200-lb limit, more career options moving forward.
“Junior is like a Holyfield-type of fighter who is a cruiserweight in his early 20s and then grows into a full-fledged heavyweight near his 30s. People like small, agile heavyweights better than the lumbering monsters hugging each other all fight. They make for more exciting fights.”
Wilson says because of Wright’s relative lack of experience, the world hasn’t seen the best of him yet.
“How many fighters have had two world title fights by their 18th pro fight (the fight against Chakhkiev was for the IBO World Cruiserweight Championship) after having just 50 peleas como amateur?” he asked. “Plus Junior was knocking everybody out, so he had very few rounds in the bank and went in on short notice. The best of Junior Wright is still to be seen. He’s a very special talent.”

You can’t blame undefeated super lightweight prospect Giorgi Gelashvili for feeling like the rug was pulled out from under him a little.

In search of notoriety and success in the American boxing universe, the 22-year-old from Kutaisi, Georgia, moved his home base to Brooklyn, Nueva York, last year only to have heavy-handed new laws in the state derail his plans temporarily.
The bill, that went into effect in August, dramatically increased mandatory insurance premiums promoters must pay to put on a show in the state — desde $10,000 a $50,000 for general coverage per fighter and $1 million minimum, per-fighter, in the event of brain injury. The result is that smaller shows in New York State are basically impossible to justify financially.
“It is disappointing that I can’t fight in New York,” said Gelashvili. “My first three fights were on Salita’s Brooklyn Brawl series. New York has lots of people from my country and I was building a fan base in the community.”
But like any true champion must, Gelashvili has since picked himself up and moved his fighting base to Detroit, Michigan, where a new group of fans have welcomed him warmly.
Gelashvili (5-0, 3 KOs) will face Detroiter Larry Ventus (6-11-1, 3 KOs) in a six-round showdown on Salita Promotions latest “Pelea de Detroit” event at the Masonic Temple in Downtown Detroit, en Sábado, Noviembre 12.

“I had my last two fights in Detroit and it’s becoming my new boxing home,” él continuó. “I know that the city is rebuilding because very time I visit, it’s nicer. New buildings are going up. Detroit has a great positive energy and it’s home to many great fighters and the world-famous Kronk Gym. I get lots of respect from the fans here. They know boxing and they most definitely love a good fight. They know I come to fight and put my heart and soul on the line. Like Detroit, I am climbing up the ranks for worldwide respect and positive recognition.”
Extremely strong and powerful for a fighter his size, Gelashvili had over 120 amateur fights winning 110 while becoming a five-time Georgian National champion. Still he maintains he’s training hard to face Ventus, who is known to pull a surprise or two out of his veteran bag of tricks.
“I know Larry Ventus is a good fighter. He has a bad record, but he has fought many top fighters and in his last fight I heard fought a very close fight with Dorin Spivey. I know he has been training for a long time for this and he is from Detroit, so he’s got the hometown advantage. I trained hard and I am ready.”
Gleashvili says many of his New York-based fans are making the trek to watch him este sábado in Motown and that he is still very happy so far with search for fame and fortune overseas.

Three of Detroit’s brightest prospects, all bantamweights, will appear in separate bouts on Salita Promotions’ latest “Pelea de Detroit” evento en Sábado, Noviembre 12, at the Masonic Temple in Downtown Detroit.
La “thrill a minute” type slugger with a heavy punch and a giant heart, undefeated 26-year-old James Gordon Smith (10-0, 6 KOs) is never in a bad fight. Smith has already electrified a Detroit Brawl audience, winning a unanimous six-round decision over Mexico’s tough Pablo Cupul last May. True to his fan-friendly form, Smith’s victory over Cupul proved to be a “Pelea del Año” candidato.
The power-punching Detroiter will be looking to take a step up to world contender status soon and will be hoping to showcase his talents one more time for his hometown fans.
“James Gordon Smith is one of the most exciting fighters from Detroit right now,” said Kronk Gym’s Javan “Azúcar” Colina, one of Detroit’s best-known and most respected trainers. “It’s always a rumble when he fights and that’s because he is like the fighters of the good old days. He’s always looking to get a knockout and his when you see him fight you will see what I am talking about!”
Also on showcase that night will be 21-year-old bantamweight Jarico “Great Lakes King” O'Quinn (3-0, 2 KOs) de Detroit, who was one of most sought-after amateur prospects in the country before turning professional last year.
With blazing-fast hands and effortless combination punching, O’Quinn has begun building a reputation as “one to watch,” among young prospects in the sport. He will already be having his third fight under the Salita Promotions banner after signing last July.
O’Quinn started boxing at age 14 and went on to rack up 130 wins against 18 losses as an amateur, winning countless national tournaments including the USA Nationals as the number-one-ranked bantamweight in the country. He also travelled extensively with Team USA to fight internationally in places like Poland, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and the Ukraine.
Rounding out the trio is exciting 22-year-old fan favorite Zach Shamoun, of Royal Oak, Michigan.
Shamoun, who started boxing at age nine, was also an amateur standout. En su 160 peleas como amateur, he won the Junior Golden Gloves in 2008 and went on to take 14 state and nine regional titles, while losing just nine fights.
A thinking man’s slugger, the quick-fisted Shamoun can stay very relaxed and in control under fire. He has excellent ring generalship and likes to stay two steps ahead of his opponents.

26-year-old bantamweight James Gordon Smith (10-0, 6 KOs) of Detroit was last seen at a previous Detroit Brawl, en Mayo 14 de este año, going to electrifying war against Mexico’s tough Pablo Cupul. Smith won a unanimous six-round decision and the hearts of the fans with his thrilling back-and-forth victory.
21-year-old bantamweight Jarico O’Quinn (3-0, 2 KOs) of Detroit was last in the ring on Agosto 6 en Temecula, California, winning a unanimous four-round decision over local product Johnathan Quiroz on CBS Sports Network.

Fighting on the undercard of a Showtime-televised event, Van Horn dropped an action-packed four-round unanimous decision to New York veteran Henry Beckford at Rhinos Stadium in Rochester, Nueva York.
29-year-old cruiserweight Alexey Zubov (12-1, 7 KOs) de Brooklyn, New York via Magnitogorsk, Rusia, last fought in August was well. Zubov won a unanimous six-round decision over Eric George at the same Showtime show at Rhino’s Stadium.
