BROOKLYN (Juli 30, 2017) – Three-division world champion Mikey Garcia kept his undefeated record intact with a dominant 12-round performance against four-division world champion Adrien Broner i hovedturneringen av SHOWTIME Championship Boxing, Saturday on SHOWTIME from Barclays Center, hjemmet til BROOKLYN BOKSING®.
In what could be considered one of the best performances of his career, Garcia (37-0, 30 KO s) won a unanimous decision by scores of 117-111 og 116-112 to ganger.

Garcia took the lead early on, showcasing fundamentally sound technique and backing Broner into the ropes midway through the second frame. A flurry of body shots put Broner in trouble in the second round. While Broner was able to stay on his feet, Garcia emerged with another round in his favor.
“I think I controlled the fight in the early rounds and I kept the activity up,” Garcia said. “Broner is a great fighter and he has great skills but I was the superior fighter i kveld.”
Garcia showed a combination of jabs, power punches and body shots all night long. He cornered Broner on the ropes with a huge left hook halfway through the third frame, and backed him in to the ropes again with 39 seconds remaining in the round. While Broner showed some movement in the fourth round and hit Garcia with a succession of 1-2 combinations, Garcia’s bodywork kept Broner at bay.
“It was part of the strategy to be a little busier in this fight than in the fights I have previously had,” Garcia said.
Broner (33-3, 24 KOs) looked to get back in the fight as he started the eighth round with a succession of sharp combinations, however his lack of consistency couldn’t withstand Garcia’s phenomenal body shots and overall punch output. Through eight rounds, Garcia had thrown a total of 500 punches, while Broner had just thrown 291.
“It was a good fight at the end of the day, I come to fight I come to win and I put my heart on the line,” Broner said. “But it was Tom & Jerry; I had to catch the mouse.”
Although Garcia had amassed an early lead from the first three-quarters of the fight, Broner continued to walk through heavy fire from Garcia in an attempt to connect with a big punch and change the tide of the fight. While he was able to ignite the crowd and land several big punches over the final three rounds, none of it proved to be enough to slow down Garcia.
“It was my timing, I’ve always said I have very good timing,” Said Garcia. “It is underestimated when you are outside the ring but once you get inside the ring with me, I’m a step ahead.”
Ubeseiret Jermall Charlo (26-0, 20 KOs) made his debut at 160-pounds with a stoppage of Argentine contender Jorge Sebastian Heiland (29-5-2, 16 KOs) in the co-featured event of SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING. Stansen kom på 2:13 of the fourth round after Charlo delivered a devastating left hook followed by a big right to end the fight.
Charlo, av Houston, Texas, dominated the pace from the beginning. He landed the sharper and more accurate punches throughout the fight, especially in the first round where he landed 50 percent of his power shots to Heiland’s 13 prosent. Charlo’s straight right was his power weapon throughout the contest.
“I felt good at this weight. I was in good shape all camp,” Said Charlo. “I just had to keep my composure in the ring. That’s always something I have to work on and I was able to do it.
“After I dropped him the first time they said he fell on top of his ankle. That’s just part of the boxing game. I had to just stay consistent and get the work done.”
Heiland, Buenos Aires, Argentina, had issues with his left leg after injuring his knee in the first round. His discomfort was clear in his awkward footwork and lack of power behind his punches. Referee Benjy Esteves had the doctor examine him twice throughout the fight, once before the third round and then again before the fourth.
“I turned my left knee in the first round, but I did not want to give up,” said Heiland. “Jeg prøvde å gi det min alle, but it was not my night. I had bad luck but I am going to work harder than ever to get back and get another opportunity to achieve my dream and win a world title.”

With this win, Charlo becomes a mandatory challenger for the WBC Middleweight World Championship.
“I’m ready for anyone. I’m ready for whoever wants to fight me,” Charlo added. “Bring on the biggest names at 160. I’m the real Tommy Hearns. I feel it’s my turn and I’m going to go get it.”
Headlining the “SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING Prelims,” tungvekt Jarrell Miller (19-0-1, 17 KOs), av Brooklyn, N.Y., stopped former world title challenger Gerald Washington (18-2-1, 12 KOs) after eight-rounds.
Miller used his significant size advantage and effective power-punching to break down the former collegiate football player. Washington had some success early with his jab and body attack, but was not able to stay out of punching range of Miller
Washington surged in the sixth round with a series of power shots that staggered Miller, however the Brooklynite countered and further broke down Washington, who landed just 20% of his jabs overall.
Miller, who landed almost half of his power punches, continued the onslaught in the seventh and eight rounds, and while Washington was able to stay on his feet, he took enough punishment that his corner called the fight after the eighth round.
“I definitely felt the ring rust,” said Miller, who was making his third appearance on SHOWTIME. “Gerald was very tough. It was a very good fight that had me thinking. My power was there, but I couldn’t put it together the way I wanted to today.
“I took the hard way back coming in off of a layoff. Gerald definitely pushed me and motivated me. I had to rely on my brain and my power.
“I knew there would be a give and take in this fight. It’s one thing to fight when you have stamina, it’s another to fight when you’re tired. I was trying to outthink him.”

The Olympic Gold medalist was dominant from the outset, stalking her opponent around the ring and consistently trapping her in the corner. Taylor was effective with both hands and did most of her work to the head of Clarkson. After three rounds of damage, Clarkson’s corner stopped the bout and gave Taylor her first stateside win as a pro.
“It was a fantastic experience being my first time competing here in the U.S,” Said Taylor. “There were definitely some nerves before the fight. It was great to go in there and get a stoppage.
“I hope that I made some fans i kveld. I loved hearing the Irish fans in the crowd. I hope that there will be even more next time I fight here. The more fights I have here in the U.S. the better.
“I thought I performed pretty well. I definitely got caught with a few silly shots. I could have been cleaner but overall it was a good performance. I felt good and strong. I’ll be ready to get back in there as soon as possible.”
Additional action saw former world champion Rau'shee Warren (15-2, 4 KOs) earn a unanimous decision victory over former champion McJoe Arroyo (17-2, 8 KOs) and became the mandatory challenger for the IBF Junior Bantamweight World Title.
Warren attacked the body throughout the bout and landed the cleaner, more effective punches over the 12-round contest. The judges concurred and gave him the decision by scores of 118-10 og 117-111 to ganger.
“I would give myself a B+ for that performance,” said Warren. “I wanted to make sure to use my jab and I felt like it really helped me win the fight.
“I feel really good at this weight. Now it’s time for me to go get a strap. I haven’t been at this weight since the Olympics. I want to get these titles and then go down to 112 pounds for another title. First I want to take care of Jerwin Ancajas.”

“I don’t think that he’s going to be desperate but he knows that I’m not an easy opponent. That’s why he’s taken camp so seriously. I expect him to be at his best and be ready. He knows that if he beats me he can launch his career back to where it was.

“He’s a four-division world champion so clearly he has the skills. I need someone who is hungry and motivated to bring out the best in me. My main focus is getting the win by any means necessary.

“I’m going to lo look to box effectively and show that I’m the better fighter. We’re both smart fighters but neither of us will run from the other. When you have styles like ourselves, with two guys who like to exchange punches, you’re in for a great battle.

“I think Adrien will be fine with the weight. He’s a pro and he knows that he really has to make weight. He’s learned from his mistakes. Sometimes he jokes around but that’s just part of his character. He takes things a lot more seriously because he’s facing me.

“If I can get this win, I just want to keep moving forward and fulfilling my dreams. I want to be in huge fights consistently. This is a crossroads fight for both of us to get to that level.

Four-division world champion Adrien Broner has taken a unique approach as he prepares to face undefeated three-division titlist Mikey Garcia this Lørdag, Juli 29 leve på SHOWTIME (9 pm. ET / 6 pm. One of only 16 four-division champions in boxing history, the outspoken Broner is practicing yoga in his Colorado Springs-based camp as he attempts to minimize the distractions and focus on perhaps the biggest fight of his career.

NEW YORK (Juli 25, 2017) – SHOWTIME Sports will offer three separate boxing presentations on Lørdag, Juli 29, delivering two digital live streams preceding the evening’s SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING televised doubleheader. The full day of high-stakes boxing will begin at approximately 5:30 pm. OG/2:30 pm. The former two-division titlist Frampton (23-1, 14 KOs) will face once-beaten Andres Gutierrez (35-1-1, 25 KOs) in a 12-round featherweight bout, his first since splitting a par of slugfests with three-division world titlist Leo Santa Cruz. Coverage of Frampton vs. Gutierrez will be provided by Channel 5, a television station in Northern Ireland.

A rising star overseas, Bray, Irlands Taylor will make her U.S. debut på Juli 29 and conduct her training camp in Vernon, Connecticut after five pro fights in the United Kingdom dating back to her pro debut last November. Taylor has already picked up three victories in 2017, including her most recent triumph over previously unbeaten Nina Meinke in April. Taylor seeks a professional world title after a sensational amateur career that saw her twice represent her country in the Olympics, including a gold medal-winning performance in 2012, in addition to five gold medals in the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships.

 

Originally from Cork, Irland, Murphy returned to his home country to fight as a professional for the first time in February when he won an eight-round decision over Avelino Vazquez. The 22-year-old fights out of Woodlawn, NY and will look to pick up his fourth victory this year after most recently earning a decision over Brian Jones in May. Murphy seeks his third professional win at Barclays Center and second this year after beating Maxito Sainvil in January.

NEW YORK (Juli 6, 2017) – Consensus top-10 heavyweight Jarrell "Big Baby" Miller will make his hometown debut just down the block from where he was born when he faces former world title challenger Gerald Washington at Barclays Center, hjemmet til BROOKLYN BOKSING, after an 11-month hiatus.

The confident and hard-hitting Miller has knocked out seven consecutive opponents since his pro debut in 2009. Following a voluntary layoff due to contractual disputes, the 28-year-old former professional kickboxer will take a step up in opposition when he faces Washington, a U.S. Navy veteran who challenged heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder earlier this year in a hard-fought bout.

 

“The day has been set and it can’t come soon enough,” said Miller. “Fighting is my life and being able to make my debut at Barclays Center is beyond monumental. This will be a night to remember for me, my family and for the fans.”

Ranked No. 5 av WBO og No. 7 by the WBA and IBF, Miller earned three stoppage victories in 2016, including a third-round TKO over veteran Fred Kassi in his 2016 headlining fight on ShoBox: Den nye generasjonen, where he landed 57 prosent av hans makt skudd.

The 6-foot-6 Washington, 35, is a well-rounded athlete from Vallejo, Calif. who turned to pro boxing in 2012. He played football under Pete Carroll and Steve Sarkisian at University of Southern California and was part of the Buffalo Bills and Seattle Seahawks practice squads before turning to boxing. Washington holds victories over experienced one-time Wladimir Klitschko foe Eddie Chambers and veteran Ray Austin. He will be making his East Coast debut on Juli 29.

“I løpet av den sjette runden, han fanget meg med et godt skudd inne i venstre øye. Men jeg klarte å kjempe meg gjennom det og få seieren.
“Det føles flott å være en mester. Jeg har aldri hatt en følelse så bra før. Det er ren Accokeek-kraft. Jeg kan endelig trekke buksene opp nå. Buksene mine falt ned, men jeg fikk endelig beltet.”
DOMINIC Breazeale
“Det tok litt tid for meg å finne tempoet mitt, men til slutt fant jeg rytmen min. Izu kom i god form og med våpen flammende. Han kom på meg med noen ting som jeg ikke forventet. Han var den lettere fyren, og jeg hadde egentlig ikke forventet kraften han hadde.

BIRMINGHAM, AL. (Februar 23, 2017) – Tungvektsverdensmesteren Deontay Wilder og ubeseiret Gerald Washington gikk ansikt til ansikt Torsdag på den siste pressekonferansen før deres primetime-oppgjør som overskrifter Premier Boxing Champions på FOX og FOX Sports detteLørdag, Februar 25 fra Legacy Arena på BJCC i Birmingham, Alabama.
Også til stede og omtalt i fjernsynsaksjon fra kl 8 pm. OG/5 pm. PT var økende super weltervektige konkurrenter Tony Harrison og Jarrett Hurd, som kjemper om en ledig juniortittel i mellomvekt, pluss hardtslående Dominic Breazeale og ubeseiret Izuagbe Ugonoh, som møtes i en 10-runde tungvektkamp.

“Dette er et fantastisk kort på lørdag natt, og jeg vet at disse andre gutta ikke kan vente med å komme inn i ringen.
“Lørdag natt kommer til å bli en elektrisk kamp. Jeg elsker staten min, og jeg elsker å kunne komme tilbake til Alabama. Hjemmet er der hjertet mitt er. Det føles bra å fortsette å gi tilbake.
“Jeg er overveldet. Jeg er så klar for denne kampen. Alle har en historie å fortelle. Alt som har skjedd med motstanderne mine er i fortiden. Jeg er forelsket i denne sporten. Jeg har et mål å nå i denne sporten, og jeg vil nå det.
“Jeg setter meg alltid i motstandernes stilling og tenker på om det var meg. That’s why I have so much passion for this sport and I give it my all. I don’t want to end up like my opponents. I don’t want to see what those lights looks like from the bottom.
“I want people to look back on my legacy and see that it was a long journey. I’ve paved the way for my city and my state. I’ve laid the bread crumbs and now people can follow.
“When my first opponent dropped out, the first name that came to my mind was Gerald Washington. I appreciate the way he conducted himself. Every time I saw him, he always shook my hand and told me he was ready.
“I know Gerald is excited. I was too. I know what it’s like to be able to fight for one of the most prestigious belts in the world. Men, it’s my belt. Jeg gleder meg fortsatt. Selv om jeg er verdensmester i tungvekt, Jeg er fortsatt ydmyk. Jeg holder beltet i saken, til det er på tide for meg å kjempe igjen. Jeg er ikke fornøyd. Det er fortsatt mer å oppnå.”
GERALD WASHINGTON
“Jeg har hatt et utrolig løp for å få meg til å høre. Jeg er takknemlig til Deontay for at han valgte meg for denne kampen. Han kunne valgt mange motstandere, men han valgte meg, og jeg er takknemlig for det.
“Dette er en drøm som går i oppfyllelse. Jeg begynte å bokse som barn, men jeg visste ikke hva jeg ville gjøre. Jeg har hatt en lang vei, men nå kjemper jeg for verdensmesterskap i tungvekt. Dette betyr bare så mye for meg.
“Treneren min John Pullman og jeg begynte å jobbe sammen, og vi har gått gjennom alle hindringer. Det er hardt arbeid, men vi legger ned arbeidet sammen, og nå er vi her. Det er det livet handler om. Du må ta risiko og når det er på tide, det er på tide å håndtere virksomheten din. Det er min tid, og jeg er klar.
“Jeg er så glad for å kunne gjøre det jeg elsker. Jeg skal opp mot Deontay Wilder, Bronze Bomber, i sin bakgård. Du kan ikke ta bort det han har oppnådd. Men jeg er her for å håndtere virksomheten min.
“Jeg prøver å leve som mester, og nå er det min mulighet til å bli mester. Jeg kommer til å gripe denne muligheten og ta den.”
TONY HARRISON
“Som konkurrent, Jeg var allerede spent på kampen da de ringte meg om å kjempe mot Hurd. Jeg sa ja med en gang. Jarett Hurds navn er nevnt hver gang du nevner divisjonen på 154 pund. Jeg begynte med dette og ønsket å være best og gjøre det, Jeg må slå de beste.
“Det var en kamp for meg som jeg hoppet på med en gang. Da jeg fikk samtalen om at det skulle bli en tittelkamp, Jeg visste at dette kom til å bli en eldre kamp.

“Dette er en kamp hvor du må respektere begge krigerne. Byen Detroit kommer for å se meg bringe denne verdens tittelen hjem, og jeg er sikker på at Maryland forventer det samme fra Hurd. Det kommer til å bli en fantastisk atmosfære.

“Jeg må bare ut og ta den en runde av gangen. Jeg tror at jeg har for mye i arsenalet. Jeg kan ikke bli så spent, selv om jeg ser en åpning for å stoppe kampen, Jeg skal gjøre det på den smarte måten. Jeg er i form å gå 12 runder, men hvis jeg ser muligheten min, Jeg kommer til å ta det.

JARRETT HURD

“Min far ble født i Birmingham, Alabama, så det å være i stand til å få verdensmesterskapet mitt her er spennende for hele familien min. Dette er en stor kamp for meg. Jeg har trent hardt og er forberedt på det.

DOMINIC Breazeale
“It’s great to be back on this stage. I’m ready to come back and show my boxing skills. Deontay and Gerald are going to put on a great show and I’m excited to be a part of it.
“My opponent is definitely an unknown character. We prepared for everything to get ready for a guy that will move a lot. It’s big for him to be fighting on a big card like this for his first U.S. fight. I’m glad he took the fight.
“I just need to be a pressure fighter. Jeg har vært nede og reist meg. Jeg har vært der med de beste. Jeg kan ikke la ham bli komfortabel. Jeg skal gi ham en slags kamp han aldri har sett før.
“Jeg har trent hardt med Manny Robles, og vi har gjort noen fenomenale ting i det siste 10 uker. Jeg har stått på den store scenen og er klar til å gjøre det igjen. Jeg har det bra og er forberedt på å sette opp et show.”

“For meg, this is everything. If you’re a fighter and you train hard to be a champion, then this is the stage you want to reach. When you get here, the question is, are you comfortable with it? I’ve always believed that this is where I belong and now I have the opportunity. Now I just want to have fun and do what I do best.
“I think this is going to be a very explosive fight. I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been in. I prepared for a better Dominic Breazeale than who fought Joshua. I think it’s going to be a beautiful night.
“My road has been very rocky. Jeg har kjempet hele verden, but everything happens for a reason and happens at the right time. The time is now for me.”
CALEB ANLEGG
“I’ve had a great camp. I know everyone says that, but this really has been my most productive camp. I’ve had great sparring since I moved to Las Vegas. It’s going to be fireworks på lørdag.
“I know my opponent has been in there with some tough guys. Han har aldri blitt stoppet. That’s what we want. Soft touches won’t get me to where I’m headed. This is my closest fight to my hometown of Nashville since I turned pro so I’m expecting a lot of support.
