BETLEHEM, PA. (Aprily 5, 2017) – Former title challenger Edner Cherry (36-7-2, 19 Kos) won a competitive decision over Omar Douglas (17-2, 12 Prices) ao amin'ny hetsika lehibe nyPremier Boxing Champions Toe-TO-Toe talata amin'ny FS1 ary Ady totohondry Champions amin'ny FOX Deportes Talata night from Sands Bethlehem Events Center in Bethlehem, Pa.
Cherry came out aggressive from the opening bell, landing a strong left hook and backing up Douglas early and often over the first few rounds. Douglas attempted to control the fight with his jab and movement and had some success moving his head to avoid many of the power punches from Cherry.
Douglas did well as he increased his attack to the body in the middle rounds and continued to move backward to avoid the power punches being thrown by Cherry. The differing styles left the judges with a decision to make in weighing the movement and technique of Douglas versus the aggression of Cherry.
Amin'ny farany, the consistency of Cherry’s attack, who frequently targeted Douglas with combinations to the head, was more effective in the minds of the judges. The final score totals were 98-92 ary 96-94 twice for Cherry.
Additional action featured Philadelphia’s Stephen Fulton (11-0, 5 Kos) earning a unanimous decision over previously unbeaten Luis Rosario (8-1-1, 7 Kos) in their eight-round super bantamweight contest.
Rosario was the more aggressive fighter in the early rounds, but it was Fulton who timed his opponent first and built up an early lead with a combination of check hooks and power punches. Fulton was patient against the attack-minded Rosario and was able to counter effectively while avoiding Rosario’s power punches.
Fulton continued to have success in the middle rounds as Rosario’s attack slowed, but the Puerto Rican fighter came out with an increased level of aggression in round seven and tagged Fulton during several exciting exchanges.
Despite the increasing pressure, Fulton was able to stay composed and fend off Rosario over the final two rounds on his way to winning a unanimous decision by scores of 78-74, 79-73 ary 80-72.
The opening bout of the telecast saw Bethlehem’s Frank DeAlba (22-2-2, 9 Kos) score a unanimous decision over Ryan Kielczweski (26-3, 8 Kos) amin'ny valo-manodidina Super featherweight bout.
The hometown fighter got off to a slow start as Kielczweski appeared to control the early rounds using his movement and tagging the southpaw with right hands. DeAlba began to work on the inside of his opponent and found more success starting in the fourth round.
Once he had closed the distance, DeAlba began to land hooks to the head and smothered much of Kielczweski’s offense. With an increased emphasis on body-punching in the late rounds, DeAlba turned the tide of the fight in the judgesminds and earned a unanimous decision by scores of 77-75 in-droa ary 80-72.
Izao no ny mpiady tsy maintsy hoe Talata alina:
EDNER Cherry
I take my hat off to Douglas. I thought I pulled out the victory. I tried to press for it but it was a back and forth fight.
I’m excited to get the win. I beat a great young fighter. I hate when people say I’m old because I work harder than these young fighters. I drive an hour and a half to the gym every day to do this.
I’m looking for big things. I want to be great and I want the biggest fights out there. I believe I’m going to get a significant fight.
Omar Douglas
I didn’t lose that fight. Period.
The fight went how I expected it would in the ring. I’ve always been a fan of his. I feel like I fight great competition and I was able to out box him with my jab. He tried to bait me in and I showed I was the better boxer.
STEPHEN FULTON
I feel good winning my first eight-round fight and televised bout. I feel great after that performance. The fight went exactly how I thought.
I knew he would try to drop combinations on me, but I worked my jab and moved so I would not be in a straight line for his left hand.
LUIS ROSARIO
Fulton is a good boxer. He did not want to fight man-to-man, but he moved well. He was shying away from exchanging with me.
I thought it was a close fight that could have gone either way. I blocked a lot of his punches with my gloves.
FRANK DEALBA
“Lehibe izany ady. He is a tough fighter and I felt I did enough to get the decision. I out boxed him. He was just looking for one big shot.
Hopefully this win gets me to another level. He has fought really good opponents, so a win over him gets me to fight bigger fights. I was in great shape. I saw he was tiring and I thought that was the difference.
Ryan KIELCZWESKI
It was a good fight for me and I stuck to my game plan. In the seventh round he hit me with a body shot and knocked the wind out of me.
It was a close fight but I thought I won 5-3. I could have lived with a draw. He got the close rounds, but every round? Come on.

Cherry of Wauchula, Florida has had a smooth camp while training in the Sunshine State and is ready for the 46th start of his professional start.
Everything is good, and we will be prepared for everything on Faha-4 Aprily,” said the 34-year-old Cherry.
“Amin'ny Faha-4 Aprily, whatever Douglas brings, we will be prepared for. This is not the first time, that I’ve been in this position. He is the guy who has to prove he can perform. I have been there before, so the pressure is on him.
Cherry has been a top contender at both the 130 ary 135 antsasa-kilao fisarahana, and he even challenged for a world title at 140 kilao. He believes there are many reasons that he has remained a viable contender who has only lost once in the last nine years and 13 ady.
I am motivated and I believe in myself,” hoy Cherry. “Those are the reasons that I am still here at the top of the 130 ary 135 divisions. My family gives me drive every day. Faha-4 Aprily will be another great fight. This is my job and I have to go out and do it well.
Cherry believes a win should gain him another crack at a world title.
A win definitely puts me ahead. It will open doors for better fights and better paydays. A title shot is what I want. But also a bigger money fight that will take care of my family.
Douglas has been training at home in Delaware, has been working hard for this fight, which could be a breakthrough fight on the heels of his narrow defeat to former world champion Javier Fortuna last November.
“Ny zava-drehetra dia lehibe. This has been a long camp. I have been getting great work,” hoy ny 26- year-old Douglas.
I am the better fighter. I have known about him for a long time. I watched him a lot when he fought amin'ny zoma Alina ady.”
That fight with Fortuna was a major step up, and Douglas had a lot of positive moments, as he dropped the former champion in the 1st round, only to lose by three points on two cards and one point on a third card.
The Fortuna fight let me know and let the people know that Omar Douglas is a world class fighter. Even in a loss, people did not expect me to do well. I thought that I showed a lot that night and I will carry that confidence into this fight on Faha-4 Aprily.”
Douglas believes that a win over Cherry is his path to a world title.
I think that it is time. I just happen to be crossing paths with Cherry. This fight makes sense for me. I will let people know that I am player at 130 kilao, and a win will earn me a title shot. I have shown that I will fight anyone. Look at the records of my previous opponents. Fortuna was 30-1 and one fight removed from being a world champion. Alexei Collado was 19-1; Frank De Alba was 17-1. So wins over those guys plus Cherry should have me right there, but I am focusing on Edner Cherry. He is a great veteran, fa amin'ny talata night I will be victorious.

I have a great deal of respect for Shafikov. Tough guy, experienced but he had his chance and it’s my time now. This is my toughest fight on paper but I feel good. It’s my time to earn my respect.
It’s a huge honor and blessing to headline on ESPN on 4th of July weekend. I want to put on a good show,
Its extra special to honor on this weekend, being that I was a marine and to headline and I want to put on a patriotic and great performance.
I believe a win will open the doors for a world title. In-tsaiko, I am taking this fight as a world title fight. That is how important this fight is and before the end of the year, I hope to get a crack at a world title.
DENIS SHAFIKOV
“Nandeha tsara ny zava-drehetra tany an-toby. We had a four-month camp. We were supposed to fight a couple of months ago but when that fight was cancelled, Denis relaxed for a minute and then this opportunity came up.
Herring has a great record and he represented the U.S. in the Olympics. He is still young and I feel that my experience will be the determining factor.
I accepted this fight because a win gets us in line for big opportunities, including another shot at a world championship.
PATRYK SZYMANSKI
I’m excited about the opportunity to take on an experienced opponent. I think it will be a good test for me and a chance to show off my skills.
I’ve worked very hard so that I can leave an impression with my performance. These are the kind of fights that I have to win and win in style if I want to reach my goals in this sport.
WILKY CAMPFORT
Training camp went very well. I don’t know too much about my opponent but I did see him fight once in Tampa. Toy Ny Asabotsyalina, I will see what he has.
It means a lot to fight on ESPN. The first fight that I saw that involved a fellow Haitian was Daniel Edouard on ESPN and it gave me a lot of motivation to pursue my career.
I am not only fighting for myself, but all of the people in Haiti and Florida that have been supporting me.
A win will put me right back into where I was when I had my long winning streak. A win will put me back in the mix at 154-pounds.

In early action, Cruz began to establish his straight right hand when he knocked Redkach off balance and sent him to the canvas in round two. The Puerto Rican veteran controlled much of the early rounds with that right hand, great movement and overall boxing ability.
Redkach was aggressive throughout, fanipazana 602 punches over the 10-round bout to Cruz’s 485. Na izany aza, Cruz’s 33 percent connect rate was good enough for him to dominate the first half of the fight.
The 2008 Ukranian Olympian began to find a landing zone for his big left hand as the fight wore on and late in round eight he landed one cleanly on Cruz that dropped him hard. Redkach was then awarded a controversial knockdown in an explosive ninth round when Cruz fell to the mat on what he said was a slip as a result of a push.
Both men emptied the tank in the final round knowing that one punch could change the outcome of the fight and ended with several flurries. The scores after 10 rounds were razor thin at 94-93 for Redkach, 94-93 Cruz and 94-94, resulting in the split draw.
The co-main event of the evening featured a fast pace brawl that saw unbeaten prospect Imanoela Aleem (16-0, 9 Kos) earn a hard fought victory over Jonathan Cepeda (17-2, 15 Kos) in their eight-round middleweight contest.
Aleem and Cepeda traded power punches all fight long, with Cepeda taking the brunt of the punishment as he was out landed 272 ny 107. Aleem was superior in all regards as he also landed an impressive 42 isan-jato ny fitambaran'ny punches.

In the televised opener unbeaten middleweight prospects collided as Junior Castillo (10-0, 9 Kos) earned a unanimous decision over Kyrone Davis (10-1, 4 Kos) in a competitive eight-round affair.
The Delaware-native Davis was impressive early with his movement and boxing abilities but the southpaw Castillo was soon able to time his opponent and land left hands to the head and body.
Ao amin'ny fihodinana fahefatra, Castillo hurt and dropped Davis in the middle of the round with a left hand after an exchange. Neither man allowed the other to gain too much momentum throughout the remainder of the fight, but it was Castillo’s output advantage of 117-92 that bettered Davisaccuracy advantage of 36 percent to 30 isan-jato.
Castillo won the decision by scores of 78-73, 77-74 ary 76-75.
Izao no ny mpiady tsy maintsy hoe Talata:
Ivan REDKACH
I think I won, but it was a good fight.
The knockdown I suffered was me losing my balance. I felt I controlled the fight because I knocked him down twice. I thought I could have stopped him after the first knockdown.
I am not going to argue with the decision but I feel I won the fight.
LUIS CRUZ
I thought the last knockdown was a slip. That was the difference between the draw and my win.
“I nampalahelo azy. I had the power. I tried to work round-by-round. I feel that I won six rounds and that the knockdown cost me the win.
I thought I fought well. The draw was better than a loss. Why not a rematch? He is strong and dangerous. He hits hard but I know I am better than him.
IMMANUWEL ALEEM
He was a tough guy. I hit him with some good shots but he kept his ground. I respect that.
I was trying to take my time to get him out. I was being hasty. I was trying to get him every chance I got but he was tough. I am a student of the game and I was taking my time.
My manager George Peterson has a resume of building up Paul Williams and I trust what he has in store for me. He knows what I am capable of doing. We will go after everybody, just like Paul did.
JUNIOR CASTILLO
It was a very good fight. I had some difficulty at first but I felt confident that I would be victorious.
I kept consistent with my game plan and I was able to knock him down. I thought I would be able to finish him but I got too wild.
It feels good to defeat an undefeated prospect and also go the distance. I have never gone the distance before.
I want some kind of title fight. My confidence is much higher right.
KYRONE DAVIS
I felt like it was a good fight. I feel like I won. I thought the crowd swayed the judges. I felt like I won but that’s how it goes sometimes.
“78-73 was too wide. I controlled the first two rounds. He crossed over and hit me with a good shot. He may have won the knockdown round and the last round.
If he gives me a rematch, I would love it. This is just a minor setback. I will improve after this fight and I will move forward.
