Niall Kennedy wins controversial decision versus defending champion Alexis Santos to capture New England heavyweight title

Mashantucket, CT (September 16, 2017) – Undefeated Irishman Niall “Boom Boom” Kennedy won a controversial 10-round split decision versus defending champion Alexis Santos to capture the New England heavyweight championship in last night’s (Lördag) main event of Broadway Boxing held in Fox Theater, at Foxwoods Resort Casino, in Mashantucket, CT.
Den Broadway Boxing series is promoted by DiBella Entertainment and presented by Nissan of Queens, Azad Watches, OPTYX, and Christos Steak House. Last night’s show, which was streamed by FightNight LIVE on Facebook, was promoted in association with Murphys Boxing.
Kennedy (9-0, 5 Kos), fighting out of Galway, Irland, by way of Boston, battled Santos in a competitive, action-packed brawl to be awarded the N.E. title by scores of 96-93, 96-93, 93-96. The majority of fans in attendance, outside of Kennedy’s Irish supporters, and the ringside media felt that Santos, från Lawrence, MA, had the edge and deserved the decision.
Domare Al LoBianco deducted a point from Santos in the ninth round for a highly questionable low blow and failed to rule a knockdown when it appeared the ropes kept Kennedy upright in a tremendous last round surge from the Dominican American.
I co-featured bout, förre världsmästaren Shelly “Shelito Way” Vincent (20-1, 1 KO), av Providence, RI, defeated former world title challenger Angel “Non-Stop” Gladney (9-13-1, 6 Kos) in a junior lightweight match. Hot New England junior welterweight prospect Adrian “Tonka” Sosa (5-0, 4 Kos) stepped up in class against Mexican Francisco “El Mono” Medel (11-10, 7 Kos), and remained undefeated by displaying his overall game, offensively and defensively. Fighting out of Lawrence, MA, den 2014 VARKEN. amateur champion Sosa dropped Medal with a straight right in the first round, a sneaky body shot in the second and finished him off in the third with a crisp right to the temple as referee Al LoBianco immediately halted the action.
Pro-debuting welterweights Nicky DeQuattro (1-0, 1 KO) och Timothy Wheeler (0-1) engaged in a street fight from the opening bell until DeQuartro, fighting out of Johnson, RI, connected with an overhand right that dropped his New York City rival. Ögonblick senare, DeQuattro unleashed a four-punch combination that dropped Wheeler for a complete 10-count.
The night started with a barnburner as former Irish amateur standout Ray Moylette (6-0, 2 Kos) kept his undefeated pro record intact but it certainly wasn’t easy. Fan-friendly, interactive platform stages second show of the weekend – and seventh in five months – in Providence prior to GGG-Canelo.

RALEIGH, N.C. (Juni 6, 2017) – The momentum continues to build for FIGHTNIGHT LIVE on Facebook, as the series announces its second new date this week, and this time hardware will be on the line. Strap season arrives on Lördag, Juli 29, in Raleigh, N.C., as the Tar Heel State’s hardwood prowess gives way to hard-hitting action in the squared circle, at least for one hot Mid-Summer evening.
I main event, undefeated super flyweight Dewayne Beamon (11-0, 8 Kos) kommer att ta på Jose “Torito” Rodriguez (32-5, 19 Kos) for the IBO Inter-Continental and UBF World Junior Bantamweight titles.
Beamon, of Goldsboro, N.C., has a perfect record of 11-0 med åtta knockouts. Live coverage of Groves vs. Chudinov will be provided by Sky Sports Box Office with sportscasters Adam Smith and Carl Froch and will begin at approximately 4:30 p.m. OCH/1:30 p.m. PT exclusively in the U.S. på SHOWTIME Sports Facebookpage and the SHOWTIME Sports YouTube channel. Former three-time title challenger Groves and former champ Chudinov (14-1, 10 Kos) will meet for the vacant WBA Super Middleweight World Championship in a matchup of the WBA’s No. 1 och nr. 2 challengers in a co-featured bout at Bramall Lane.

Groves (25-3, 18 Kos) has won four straight since teaming up with 2016 Trainer of the Year Shane McGuigan following a close split-decision loss to then-WBC Champion Badou Jack in 2015. The only other blemishes on his record came in title challenges to long-time 168-pound champ Carl Froch.

“I believe this is the best opportunity for me to achieve my dream and become world champion,” Groves said earlier this week. “Time is on my side. I had a good year last year, and I’m in a good place. I’ve put in the work, och nu, I need to make this count.

“Everything that’s happened in the past has just made me more determined. I know the pressure is on, and I can’t afford to make any more mistakes. This might be my best chance to win a world title, but it could also be my last.”

Chudinov (14-1, 10 Kos) originally won the WBA Super Middleweight Title with a split-decision victory over Felix Sturm in 2015 and made one successful defense before losing via controversial majority decision in a rematch with Sturm in 2016. Sturm later vacated the belt due to injury, opening up the opportunity for Chudinov to win back his title denna lördag against Groves. Chudinov is ranked No. 1 by the WBA while Groves is ranked No. 2.
