PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island (Decembrie 2, 2017) – Professional boxing returned to The Strand Ballroom and Theatre in Providence last night, Decembrie 1 pentru prima dată în 20 an and popular Providence featherweight Toka “T-Nisa” Kahn Clary didn’t disappoint the large, raucous crowd.
Kahn-Clary (24-1, 16 KO) turned in a dominant performance, winning by way of a seventh-round technical knockout, over previously undefeated Filipino slugger John Vincent Moralde (19-1, 10 KO), the WBC Asian featherweight titlist, pentru a capta vacant Consiliul Mondial de box (WBC) USNBC featherweight championship.

The 25-year-old Kahn-Clary, who won the North American Boxing Association (De asemenea) title in his last fight, used a stiff jab and solid defense to frustrate his opponent early in the fight, setting the pace to take a decisive scoring advantage.

“I’m not a one-punch fighter,” WBA No. 14-rated Toka explained. “I kept walking him down and hit him with some good body shots. I’m not going to call anybody out by name but I’m ready to fight anybody in my weight class.”

In the CBSSN televised opener, red-hot featherweight prospect made Irvin Gonzalez(8-0, 7 KO) made the most of his national TV debut, switching freely from orthodox stance to southpaw and back throughout the fight, en route to a sensational third-round knockout of Colombian knockout artist Marlon Olea (13-2, 12 KO). The lightning-quick Gonzalez, of Worcester, MA, consistently beat his opponent to the punch, and finished off Olea with a straight right to the body to keep his perfect pro record intact. A graduate of Brown University, the now 80-year-old Sammartino has enjoyed two other careers as an oral surgeon and investment advisor at Blue Fin in Providence, in addition to his role as an international boxing judge since 1985.
“I first got into boxing because Joey Angelo married my cousin,” Sammartino explained. “He fought back in the early forties. Joey fought Willie Pep twice and Sandy Saddler. That’s what got me started. We used to have the great Luni Night Fights at Rhode Island Auditorium and I remember watching Rocky Marciano fight “Tigru” Ted Lowry there.”
Because he was a successful oral surgeon, Clark could take long weekends to judge fights all over the world. His first and most memorable world title fight was Vinny Paz-Greg Haughn I. Through his long career, Sammartino judged more than 400 lupte pro, inclusiv 50 major world title fights.

His CBHOF induction is a fitting ending and tremendous tribute to Sammartino and his career in boxing. “I’m humbled to be inducted into the Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame,” el a spus. “This is a great way to end my career.”

Featherweight prospect Toka Kahn-Clary To headline his first show Oct. 19 in Atlanta

Kahn-Clary was a decorated amateur boxer, compiling an outstanding 131-11 record and collecting numerous medals at national tournaments, highlighted by him capturing a gold medal at the 2010 S.U.A.. National Golden Globes Championships. He was also a silver medalist at the 2009 National Golden Gloves Championships and 2011 S.U.A.. Rodriguez (19-2, 17 KO), who was the WBC super featherweight champion two years ago, is a heavy-handed, battle-tested Dominican. He will be fighting in the United States for the first time as a professional.

Kahn-Clary vs. Rodriguez, is somewhat of a crossroads fight with career-critical future implications for both fighters with the winner advancing to the next level, while the loser could become a permanent opponent.

“This is the big fight for Toka,” his advisor Seth DeRobbio explained. “I think it’ll be a good fight. His opponent is a big puncher with 17 knockout în 19 victorii.
