Lubin will fight for the second time since losing his first world title challenge to Jermell Charlo in 2017, and for the first time with his new coach. The Orlando-native began training camp in West Palm Beach, but has been training in Las Vegas for the last month since the team moved west to finish the training camp for Adrien Broner’s fight against Manny Pacquiao.

Here is what Lubin had to say about Saturday’s fight and more:

On his matchup against Ishe Smith:

“Ishe Smith has been in the ring with the best of them and he’s never been stopped. He knows how to fight and I’m expecting him to be at this best. I will have to dictate the pace right from the opening bell. My goal is to be the first person to take him out, but if it goes the distance, I’m okay with that as well. I’m going to win this fight and win it impressively.”

On training with new coach Kevin Cunningham:

“Kevin is a no-nonsense type of guy. He’s going to tell you the truth if you like it or not. If I’m doing something wrong in his eyes, he’s going to speak on it right away. He’ll do the same if I’m doing something right, so I like his style of training and I’m learning more each day we are together. This will be our first fight together and I’m excited to get back in the ring. We have a nice game plan in place that we will execute on fight night.”

On training in Las Vegas for the first time in his career:

“Training in Las Vegas is no joke, because we are training in higher elevation than what I’m used to in Florida. Getting away from the distractions at home has been relaxing. I’ve been getting great sparring and my timing is right on point. Las Vegas is definitely the place to be for high level sparring and training.”

On fighting in Southern California for the second time in his career:

“I really like fighting on the west coast. The fans are great, and the weather is beautiful. I know we’ll be fighting outdoors so I’m looking forward to that. Everyone knows this venue has hosted some really good fights. I’m looking to steal the show on Saturday night.”

The 25-year-old from Aurora, Illinois was rapidly moving up the ranks before the loss, having scored impressive stoppage victories over then unbeaten prospects Kevin Watts and Ryan Karl and a split decision victory over Erick Bone in fights that aired on FS1 and FOX Deportes.

The 33-year-old from Ibague, Colombia scored a knockout victory over Robinson Castellanos in a 2016 interim featherweight title fight and lost a split decision to Moises Flores in a 2015 interim super bantamweight title bout.

 

 

“With the level of competition that I’ve fought and beat, I know I’m the toughest and most experienced guy Nyambayar will have ever fought,” είπε ο Εσκάντον. “Knockouts are what I do, and that’s what I’m preparing to accomplish. The 25-year-old Ramirez has made rapid progress this year in a 2017 that saw him jump from prospect to contender. DeMarco won the lightweight world championship with a TKO victory over Jorge Linares in 2011 and successfully defended it twice before losing it to Broner in 2012. Bone finished the fight strong and believed he did enough to earn the decision.

While Smalls had the reach advantage and was dedicated to his jab throughout the bout, Martinez was consistently aggressive and was able to navigate the distance and punish Smalls with hooks to the head and body.
“I knew the one advantage he had going into this fight was his height,” Martinez είπε. “But once I got in the ring I saw quickly that he was leaving his body open so I just went in and tried to deliver as many combos and hit the body as much as I could.”
Martinez landed big power punches all night, including a pinpoint right cross that connected with Smalls at the end of round four. A clean left hook staggered Smalls in round seven as Martinez spent the round punishing his opponent, who was barely able to stay on his feet and finish the frame.
After another dominant round to close out the bout, Martinez was awarded the decision by the score of 80-71 για τους τρεις δικαστές’ scorecards.

The taller Galarza used his length early and landed clean hooks on the inside during round one. Tienda came out in round two intent on making it a rough fight and crowding Galarza to negate his reach advantage.
“I give my performance about a 7.5,” Είπε Galarza. “I knew I was coming into the ring with a tough rugged veteran Mexican fighter and he used that to his advantage, I should have used my jab more.”
Galarza continued to have success with his left hook throughout the night, while Tienda was able to slow down Galarza’s offense in the middle rounds with a relentless body attack. Much of the battle took place in close quarters and in round nine Tienda was deducted a point by referee Robert Byrd for throwing Galarza to the canvas.
After 10-rounds of hard-fought action, Galarza’s clean work and good movement in the late rounds helped him earn a unanimous decision by scores of 100-89, 99-90 και 98-91.

Here is what Ramirez had to say about his training camp, his main event showdown and more:

Where have you been holding training camp and how is it going?

What did you learn about yourself from your last two fights (wins over previously unbeaten fighters Ryan Karl and Kevin Watts)? How have you been able to improve as a fighter?

“After fighting Kevin Watts, I immediately shifted my mentality as a fighter to be more in control and to be smarter. Because being a reckless fighter got me caught and got me knocked down. Ultimately I got the win, but I am thankful for that experience because it helped shape me as a fighter as I continue to face tougher opponents.

“The Karl fight showed off a different Eddie Ramirez. I was a more defensive fighter, I used my counters more and that mindset and growth is what got me the win and will help me get this next one against Bone.”

“My last two opponents have really helped me improve as a fighter. The ability has always been there, but I needed those experiences to bring it out of me. Each opponent has been tougher than the last and it’s been very motivating for me as a fighter to continue to be better and perfect my skill. I have always been the underdog so that’s never been a factor or worry for me, I just take each fight as they come and continue to be better. My defense is better, my athleticism has improved, and my mental ability has progressed.”

How do you see this fight with Erick Bone going?

“My expectations or thought process going into this next fight with Erick Bone is to get him out early. I don’t want the fight to go the distance, I have to do whatever I can do to get him out. He’s an aggressive fighter, he’s a technical fighter who has experience, but I am quicker.”

What are your goals for the next year of you career?

“A year from now I see myself fighting guys in the Top 10. I want whoever is on that list, I believe I will have progressed as a fighter who people know about and believe has the skill to fight for a world title. I just got to beat out whoever comes my way to show the world who I am and how talented I am as a fighter. I want the big names who are going to get me to the big stage for that world title”

After a slow start, Blanco came alive in the third round and began increasing his offensive output, including a looping right hand that landed clean on Barthelemy’s head late in the round.
Blanco again pushed the action in round four and landed a sharp left hook, but Barthelemy took the shot and responded with a right hook of his own to end the round. Barthelemy continued to have success with his jab, and throwing combinations off of it, and eventually opened up a cut over Blanco’s right eye at the end of round eight.
Barthelemy was the fresher fighter as he entered the ninth round for the first time in his career and it showed as he dropped Blanco with a series of hard right hands early in the ninth round. Blanco was able to get to his feet but Barthelemy continued the onslaught, prompting Blanco’s corner to stop the fight at the official time of 1:30 of round nine.
“I feel like I’m the best up-and-coming fighter in the division,” Είπε Βαρθολομαίος. “I’m ready to step up to the next level of competition.”
The co-main event of the night saw Delaware’s Kyrone Davis (12-1, 5 KOs) earn a split-decision victory over previously unbeaten Marcos Hernandez (9-1, 2 KOs) in a 10-round showdown of super welterweight prospects.
Davis came out aggressive from the start as he looked to close distance and attack Hernandez from the inside. It nearly backfired early as Hernandez wobbled Davis with a left hook and followed up with a right uppercut that put Davis in some early trouble.
The tide swung back towards Davis after the first two rounds with an increased attack to Hernandez’s body, which slowed down the offense of the Fresno-native. In round seven, a stray body shot from Davis was deemed low by referee Dan Stell, who deducted a point as Hernandez dropped to the canvas.
Despite the deduction, Davis was able to remain effective with his aggressive game plan as both fighters went past eight rounds for the first time in their pro careers. Hernandez appeared to hurt Davis midway through the final round with a left hook, but Davis was able to smother Hernandez as he went for the knockout.
After the end of ten rounds the judges awarded Davis a split decision by scores of 95-94 for Hernandez and 96-93 twice for Davis.

The fight changed drastically early in the sixth and final round as Torres got the better of an exchange of power punches and connected with a massive left hook that stunned McAllister and sent him to the canvas. The Long Beach-native was able to get to his feet but was still shaky as Torres stalked him around the ring.
With a combination of clinches, jabs and movement, McAllister was able to finish the round on his feet despite Torres’ advances. The knockdown was not enough to derail McAllister as he won the decision by the score of 58-55 για τους τρεις δικαστές’ κάρτες.

TUNICA, MS (Φεβρουάριος 2, 2017) – Ο πρώην παγκόσμιος πρωταθλητής Luis Collazo (37-7, 20 KOs) παραδόθηκε νωρίς “Νοκ-άουτ της Χρονιάς” υποψήφιος με νοκ-άουτ έκτου γύρου υποψηφίου welterweight Sammy Vasquez Jr.. (21-2, 15 KOs) Πέμπτη το βράδυ στο κύριο γεγονός της Premier Πυγμαχία Τσάμπιονς επί FS1 και FOX Deportes από Horseshoe Tunica Ξενοδοχείο & Καζίνο στο Tunica, Μισισιπής.
Το κολάζο του Μπρούκλιν ξεκίνησε αργά ως Vasquez Jr. κοίταξε να ελέγξει τον αγώνα με την κίνηση και το τρύπημα του. Η δράση άρχισε να αυξάνεται στον τρίτο γύρο καθώς ο Κολάζο χτύπησε το πρώτο μεγάλο χτύπημα του αγώνα, συνδέοντας από δεξιά που έστειλε τον Vasquez Jr.. στον καμβά.
Vasquez Jr. έκπληκτος Collazo νωρίς στον τέταρτο γύρο με μια υπέρβαση αριστερά και πιέστηκε προς τα εμπρός για να ξεκινήσει πολλές ανταλλαγές κατά μήκος των σχοινιών. Ο Κολάζο μπόρεσε να συγκρατήσει τον νεότερο αντίπαλό του και να κάνει ζημιά με βολές στο σώμα και μικρές γροθιές στις ανταλλαγές.

Wasταν η τρίτη συνεχόμενη εντυπωσιακή νίκη για τον Ugas, ο οποίος έχει τεθεί κατηγορηματικά στη συνομιλία στο τμήμα welterweight. Ο Ugas είχε τον έλεγχο του πρώτου μέρους του αγώνα, κερδίζοντας ανταλλαγές στη μέση του ρινγκ και διαπερνώντας την υψηλή και σφιχτή φρουρά του Ghvamichava.
Ο Ghvamichava μπόρεσε να επιστρέψει στον αγώνα με αυξημένο ρυθμό εργασίας στους μεσαίους γύρους καθώς άρχισε να βρίσκει ανοίγματα στο Ugas’ άμυνα. Ο διαιτητής Bill Clancy αφαίρεσε έναν πόντο από τον Ugas στον 8ο γύρο μετά από πολλές προειδοποιήσεις για χαμηλά χτυπήματα.

“Είμαι αργά στην εκκίνηση. Είμαι καλύτερος από απόσταση και έχω την εμπειρία. Είμαι 35 αλλά ακόμα νιώθω ότι μου έχουν μείνει πολλά στο ρινγκ.
“Έχω μάθει πολλά για τον εαυτό μου. Είμαι απόλυτα αφοσιωμένος σε αυτό το άθλημα και έτοιμος να συνεχίσω. Όλοι είπαν ότι είχα ξεθωριάσει αλλά τώρα έχω την ευκαιρία να συνεχίσω.

“I felt like I was starting to get in my groove. He just caught me with a really great shot at the right time.
“I knew his big punch was the right hook. I was working on keeping my hand up to block it. I dropped it at the wrong time and he got me.
“Obviously this is going to set me back. I need to come back stronger. I hope that I can come back and fight someone that can help me move up the ranks.”

“I boxed from a distance like we prepared. I thought that I was in control and I thought I won easily.
“I was surprised it was a split-decision. I thought I won most of the rounds. He was a very tough opponent but I was ready for him and I did what I wanted to do.
“I was feeding off of my corner. I’m a top contender and I’m ready to face anybody.”
LEVAN GHVAMICHAVA
