WBA Super Featherweight Champion Gervonta Davis Battles Former Champion Hugo Ruiz In SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING® Main Event Presented By Premier Boxing Champions

CARSON, Calif. (Febbraio 4, 2019) – Unbeaten Super Featherweight Xavier Martinez will clash with Colombia’s Daivi Bassa and lightweight contender Ladarius Miller is set to battle Daulius Prescott in non-televised undercard action on Saturday, Febbraio 9 da Dignità Salute Sports Park, precedentemente StubHub Centro, in Carson, California.

The main event of a SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING tripleheader features unbeaten WBA Super Featherweight Champion Gervonta Davis defending his title against former world champion Hugo Ruiz in an event presented by Premier Boxing Champions.

The unbeaten Martinez (12-0, 8 KO) has stopped his last four opponents, including a technical knockout victory over Oscar Bravo in his last fight in September. The 21-year-old from Sacramento, Calif. will be looking to do the same when he steps in for a 10-round bout against Bassa (20-7, 12 KO), a 37-year-old southpaw from Monteira, Colombia. Bassa is looking to rebound from a unanimous decision loss to Jonathan Oquendo in his last fight in December.



Mugnaio (18-1, 5 KO) has used his boxing ability to make a steady climb up the lightweight ladder with impressive victories over Jamel Herring and Dennis Galarza. The 25-year-old, a southpaw who was born in Memphis and now lives in Las Vegas, is coming off a majority decision victory over Ricardo Garcia in his last fight in December. He is catching Barranquilla, Colombia’s Prescott (32-10, 24 KO) as he is trying to rebound from a decision loss to Matt Conway in December.

In other non-televised undercard action undefeated featherweight Angelo Leo (15-0, 8 KO) incontra Alberto Torres (11-1-3, 4 KO) durante un incontro otto round, imbattuto Giuseppe Baldera (5-0) competes in a six-round super bantamweight fight against Jerrod Miner(1-3-2, 1 KO), peso mosca Ava Cavaliere (17-2-4, 5 KO) assume Luna del Mar Torroba(12-9-2, 2 KO) in partite in otto round, Messicano leggero Francisco Ochoa (13-0, 8 KO) steps in against Luis May (21-11-1, 8 KO) for a six-round bout and Maurice Lee(9-1-1, 5 KO) facce Lennard Davis (4-1-4, 3 KO) in a six-round super lightweight bout.

The fights continue with undefeated welterweight Emmanuel Medina (15-0, 9 KO) contro Carlos Velasquez (26-33-2, 16 KO) durante un incontro otto round, Lorenzo Simpson(1-0, 1 KO) incontro Jonell Christmas (0-1) in a four-round super middleweight bout and Genisis Libranza (17-1, 10 KO) assumendo Gilberto Mendoza (11-6-2, 4 KO) in an eight-round super flyweight match.

Rounding out the night of action is undefeated Israel Luna assumendo Angel Carvajal in a four-round super bantamweight match.

"E 'un buon combattente, ma sento che il mio stile vincerà qualunque sia il suo cosiddetto vantaggio di esperienza,” ha detto un Navarro fiducioso. "Ero 312-17 da dilettante e lo sono già 8-0 come un pro. Sono stato chiamato come avversario, presumibilmente da perdere, su una carta Golden Boy e uno spettacolo PBC a Miami, e ho messo fuori combattimento entrambi quei ragazzi. Combatto al meglio quando le persone non pensano che io possa vincere".

 

 

 

Per preparare, Navarro si è riunito con l'allenatore Herman Caicedo ed è tornato a ciò che funziona meglio per il power puncher cubano.

Navarro dice che non gli dispiace far parte di un insolito "Cuban vs. resa dei conti cubana”.

 

 

 

“Combatterò chiunque. Ho combattuto contro i cubani per tutta la vita a casa, quindi no, non mi dà fastidio. Questo è un affare. Vedi messicano contro messicano e portoricano contro portoricano, quindi perché non può essere Cuba contro Cuba?? I buoni combattenti dovrebbero combattere l'un l'altro, e la crema salirà in superficie. Sono solo affari quando salgo sul ring. Auguro ad Armando tutta la fortuna del mondo. Avrà bisogno di ogni grammo".

 

 

 

Alvarez dice che sa che sembrava vulnerabile nel suo ultimo combattimento, una sconfitta televisiva a livello nazionale contro l'imbattuto Jaron Ennis a luglio, ed è per questo che Navarro è disposto a combatterlo.

 

 

 

Ma Alvarez dice che il Team Navarro ha fatto un grosso errore.

 

 

 

"Sono 100 percento senza infortuni e mentalmente pronto,” ha detto Alvarez. "Questo è ciò che la sua squadra non ha preso in considerazione. Ho combattuto contro Ennis con un infortunio che ha influito negativamente sulla mia prestazione. Si aspettano che Armando Alvarez si faccia vivo quella sera, ma sono pronto a dimostrare che "The Gentleman" è qui ed è vivo. “È raro che due cubani si fronteggino, ma penso che i migliori dovrebbero combattere i migliori. Non credo nel non combattere un altro cubano. È cubano di Cuba di Cuba. Anche io sono cubano, ma sono nato e cresciuto qui e penso che chiunque possa combattere chiunque altro".

 

 

 

Alvarez dice che non vede l'ora di tornare nella colonna delle vittorie davanti a un folto gruppo di suoi fan.

 

 

 

"Avrò la maggior parte dei sostenitori alla lotta. Avrò un sacco di famiglia e amici. Mi aiuta sempre quando i miei fan sono lì dal vivo. Mi spinge a fare molto di più".

Cuevas sat down for the following interview during a break in training:

How does it feel fighting in the USA mainland for the first time?

I am happy to be fighting here in Hollywood Florida with my new team. I’m in phenomenal shape and, come September 28, I plan on showing it big time.

 

What do you know about your opponent?

I know he’s a tough savvy Mexican veteran, but I will be prepared for anything he brings to the table. Mexico vs PR has always been a real draw when it comes to boxing and I invite all the Puerto Rican fans to come see me fight.

 

How long until we see you in a championship-level fight?

My promotional team at The Heavyweight Factory will take care of that for me. I have full faith in what my manager Alex Troya did when he brought me here. I’m working with my new trainer Jesse Robinson and within 18 mesi, I will hopefully be fighting for the world title. These people know what they’re doing and work hard for their fighters. I’m glad to be here.

 

Describe your style of fighting for the people who will be seeing you for the first time.

I don’t run away. I stand in the pocket and slip and make my opponents pay. I am working on power, explosivity and speed. That’s a dangerous combination. Posso box. I can bang. I will get it on, how ever they want it. I want to be showman and a crowd pleaser.

 

How old were you when you realized you had above average punching power?

I must have been 13 and my coach at the time was telling others that I had pop in my punch. Then it just became part of my arsenal.

 

Would you ever consider an “All Puerto Rico” showdown with a fighter like Subriel Matias or Danielito Zorrilla?

Auntie and Daniel are my friends we spar often on the island. I have great respect for both guys, but once you step in the ring, it’s ‘go time’ no matter who it is.

 

Do you miss Puerto Rico when you train in the US?

I miss my family and my people but I’m a pro who is focused on getting to the top now and now is the time I will stay focused until I get to that big showdown for the title, coming soon to a theatre near you!
