LAS VEGAS (Juin 10, 2016) – The heat was on in Las Vegas ce soir, temperature-wise as well as the action inside the ring, for the third installment of “Knockout Night at the D” série, which aired live on CBS Sports Network de l'extérieurDowntown Las Vegas Events Center (DLVEC) en 90+ degree conditions before another capacity crowd.
An old-time Las Vegas grudge match turned into a highly entertaining boxing war as WBC United States (USNBC) champion des poids légers Demond “Body Shot” Blaireau(12-3-1, 4 KOs) won a hard fought 10-round decision over former USNBC 135-pound titlist and previously unbeaten challenger Chuy “Hurrican” Gutierrez (14-1-1, 4 KOs).
Le “Knockout Night at the D” série, présenté par D Las Vegasand DLVEC, is promoted by Roy Jones Jr. (JJR) Promotions de boxe.
“What a night we had downtown,” dit Derek Stevens, Owner and CEO of the D Las Vegas and DLVEC. “I want to thank the Nevada Athletic Commission for allowing us to do these fights outdoors. I want to shout out to Chuy and Brock,,,..what fighters! Let’s keep this going downtown.”
Blaireau, fighting out of New Orleans, learned to box in Louisiana State Penitentiary, where he served nearly 15 ans, sentenced as an adult at 15 for armed robbery. The determined lightweight controlled the pace and consistently beat hometown favorite Gutierrez to the punch all night. Gutierrez, a tough Mexican who lives in Las Vegas, showed the heart of a champion, albeit in a losing effort to a fresher Brock.
“I think I put on a great performance,” Brock commented after the fight. “I came out to give my best effort. We trained to fight inside to fight Chuy, not box, to make him uncomfortable in a fight he’s not used to. I won this fight on the inside. No backing up for 10 rounds durs. We prepared that way because we knew Chuy was going to come in throwing shots. But he’d never fought anybody of my caliber. I was looking to finish him but I didn’t want to get careless.”
In a battle of unbeaten junior middleweight, Envahisseur mexicain Rolando “Rola” Garza (9-0, 6 KOs) et nous. vétéran du Corps des Marines Erasmo “The Reckoning” Garcia (5-1-1, 3 KOs) put on a show in the televised co-feature. All they really needed was a phone booth as the two warriors pounded each other from the opening bell, although Garza got the much better of the action for the first four rounds, buzzing Garcia at the end of the fourth. The game Garcia came back in the fifth, despite suffering a lot of damage from a relentless attack by Garza, who simply outclassed his overmatched opponent with his technical boxing skills. Garza, who was deducted a point for throwing a low blow in the fifth round, won a unanimous 6-round decision in a firefight.
“We worked the body and, Dieu merci, gagné le combat,” Garza noted. “Il est un dur, unbeaten guy. We came here and did it. Viva Las Vegas!”
Dans le premier match de la télévision, Las Vegas welterweight prospect Jérémie “J-Flash” Nichols (5-0. 2 KOs) dominated previously unbeaten Adam Vasquez (5-1-1). The flashy Nichols dropped Vasquez twice in the final round to win a 4-round unanimous decision by scores of 40-34 trois fois.
Nichols won his third fight in the last three months, “I can go next week,” Nichols said after the fight. “He was tall fighter who was undefeated. He didn’t come here to lose. I take my hat off to him because I hit him with some great shots. He is a tough guy with a big heart. I had to do the Ali Shuffle in the first round because he was my favorite fighter.”
Los Angeles heavyweight Johnathan “Johnnie” Riz (4-1, 2 KOs), un ancien collège Winthrop (Caroline du Nord) joueur de basket, upset 4-time Mexican National amateur champion Edgar “El Chato” Ramirez (1-1, 1 KO), pitching a shutout for a unanimous 4-round decision.
Las Vegas junior featherweight max “Baby Face Assassin” Ornelas (1-0, 1 KO de an auspices pro debut, one day after his high school graduation ceremony, one day prior to his 18e anniversaire. Ornelas dropped Robert “Lil’ Voler” Ledesma (1-5) à mi-chemin du premier tour. Ledesma rose but Ornelas hit him with a vicious left hook to the body, hurting Ledesma who turned his back and walked away in pain. Arbitre Jay Nady stepped in and halted the fight.
Poids lourds Tracey “The Titan” Johnson (4-2-4), de Boston, et Los Angeles’Cashton “Fedia-Tone” Jeune (2-1, 1 KO) set the stage in the opening fight of the evening. They stood toe-to-toe for most of the four rounds as Johnson, who has a Master’s Degree in Physical Education from Emmanuel College, won a 4-round split decision.

Gutierrez is seeking to expand his marquee on a national level, while Spinks attempts to shine on his own terms despite his spotlight catching last name.
Cinq fois, double champion du monde de division Zab “Super” Juda (42-9, 29 KOs) prendJosh “Pitbull” Torres (15-4-2, 7 KOs), in the 10-round main event of the inaugural show of the new monthly pro boxing series, “Knockout Night at the D”, aération (8 p.m. PT / 11 p.m. ET) survivre CBS Sports Network from the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center (DLVEC).
Présenté par D Las Vegas and promoted Englebrecht Promotions, la “Knockout Night at the D” série’ événement inaugural Mer. 12 will take place inside the DLVEC’s 20,000-square-foot tent, located in the heart of the downtown Las Vegas casino district, one block away from the world famous Fremont Street (200 S. 3rd St.).
The 27-year-old Gutierrez (14-0-1, 4 KOs), combats de Las Vegas, is ready to make a name for himself and Mar. 12e is scheduled to be his coming out party on a national stage. He’s rapidly become a fan favorite in Las Vegas because of his exciting, aggressive style of fighting. Chuy’s ready to spread his wings, now being showcased fighting on national television, and expand his growing fan-base.
Born in the fertile boxing town of Sinaloa, Mexique, which produced Hall of Famer Julio Cesar Chavez, Sr., parmi beaucoup d'autres, Gutierrez is making up for lost time. He was a baseball prospect who didn’t box until he was 21. “I played sports in high school, baseball was my first love, and I dreamed of becoming a big leaguer,” Gutierrez said. “Boxing found me. I was attending college at Southern Nevada and working, but the first day I walked into Johnny Tocco’s gym, Je suis tombé amoureux de la boxe. I’ve watched so many greats train there and I learned a lot from them.”
“I have a lot of respect for Spinks, but I’m just fighting the man, not his family. His grandfather was world champion, but I’m not fighting his grandfather. I’m excited to be fighting him on CBS Sports Network.”
Spinks (11-3-1, 7 KOs), who fights out of Huntington Beach, COMME, is not only the grandson of former world heavyweight champion and 1976 Médaillé d'or olympique, “Néon” Leon Spinks, his great uncle is world light heavyweight and heavyweight champion, en plus d'être un 1976 Médaillé d'or olympique, Michael Spinks. “I got to 8-0 but that hurt me because I couldn’t get good fights. But I’ve always really been my own man. This is a very, très, very big event for me, my family will be in the house supporting me.”
