It’s always great to see the mix of people that come to the Briscoe Awards. The highlight however, is throwing the spotlight on the fighters who worked so hard to entertain all of us fans. It’s always a good day and a fun time.”
Attending the Briscoe Awards this year will be big winner Tyrone ברונסאָן, who will receive three awards – פֿאַר “Fighter”, “קאַמף”, און “Performance of the Year”, AVERY SPARROW, both the “ויסקוק פון די יאר” און די “Breakout Fighter of 2017”, JARON ENNIS, named “The One to Watch”, DYLAN PRICE, די “רוקי פון די יאָר”, MARCEL RIVERS, who scored the “נאַקאַוט פון די יאר”, RAYMOND FORD, די “Amateur of the Year”, און JEROME CONQUEST, who will receive the “Everett Brothers Award”.

פילאדעלפיע – Nine area photographers will each exhibit one photo highlighting local boxing action from 2017 בייַ די 11th Annual Briscoe Awards אויף מאַרץ 25, 2018, בייַ די VBA Clubhouse in Philadelphia. The photos will also be judged by those attending the event to determine the “2017 Photo of the Year”. All attendees of the event will be given a ballot and asked to vote for their favorite photo from the nine selections. The photo chosen as the best of the year will win its photographer a Briscoe Award.
“This is the second year we’ve shined a spotlight on the many ring photographers who cover our local fight scene,” said John DiSanto, founder of the Briscoe Awards. “I really appreciate what the photographers do and the contribution they make to our boxing scene. Their photos capture the highs and lows of the sport we love, and it is important to acknowledge that.”
The Briscoe Awards commemorate the biggest and best accomplishments of the Philly-area boxing scene. פילאדעלפיע – After ten years of celebrating the biggest and best achievements of the Philadelphia-area boxing scene, the Briscoe Awards will change the timing of their annual event, from October to March.
“For a few years now, I’ve considered moving the awards up to the first part of the year,” said John DiSanto, founder of the Briscoe Awards. “The original Fall time slot caused a lot of confusion, because by the time we gave out the awards, the fights were old news. Moving to March will allow us to give out the awards shortly after the fight year ends. I’m a little nervous about making a change, but in the long run, the move will only make the Briscoe Awards better.”
The Briscoe Awards honor the key fights and fighters of the Philly area every year. די 19 year-old native of Sicklerville, New Jersey who has a perfect mark of 5-0 with all of his wins coming via knockout (Including 4 in the 1st round) will be on-hand at the 11th annual Briscoe Awards to accept the prestigious Rookie of the Year award.
The Awards Ceremony will take place on זונטיק, March 25th at the VBA Clubhouse at 2733 Clearfield Street אין פילאדעלפיע.
דערנאך אויף April 21st, Price will look for win number-six when he takes on a yet to be named opponent at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. This will be Price’s 3rd consecutive appearance at Barclays Center.

I have won the Everett Award for being the top Amateur of the Year, and to be honored in my short professional career as the rookie of the year I am just ecstatic. I am really looking forward to March 25th.”

BRUNSON SETS RECORD WITH THREE BRISCOE AWARDS

During the year, Brunson’s efforts won him three bouts, two belts, and kept his career on track for a big fight in 2018. This will be the first time a fighter has won three Briscoes in a single year.

MARCEL RIVERS TO BE HONORED FOR BIGGEST KO OF THE YEAR

JASON SOSA NAMED “2016 PHILLY FIGHTER OF THE YEAR”

פילאדעלפיע – Camden, NJ junior lightweight Jason Sosa, takes home the Briscoe Award as the “2016 Philly Fighter of the Year”, אויף זונטאג at the annual awards event presented by Philly Boxing History Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to honoring and celebrating the Philadelphia fight scene – past and present.
Sosa upended the boxing world in 2016 by raising his game to the championship level and pulling off two upsets that few experts gave him the slightest chance of winning.
ערשטער, Sosa traveled to China to face WBA champion and heavy betting favorite Javier Fortuna for the WBA belt. Five months later, Sosa defended his crown in Monte Carlo against another betting favorite, Stephen Smith of Liverpool. Sosa dropped Smith in the second and kept his title with a unanimous decision.

פילאדעלפיע – Philly super middleweight Taneal Goyco, returns to the Briscoe Awards for his second-ever trophy for the “Upset of the Year”. Goyco won the same award two years ago and repeats for 2016, with his shocker over rising Maryland prospect Jerry Odom.
The pair met on November 11, 2016, בייַ די 2300 אַרענאַ אין דרום פילאדעלפיע, and after a rocky start, Goyco punched his way back into the fight was declared the upset winner by TKO after five rounds.
Often taken lightly for his modest ring record, Goyco, 9-10-1, 4 קאָס, has made pulling upsets his specialty. He’s recorded the “Upset of the Year” in two of the last three years.
“We’ve only given this award three times over the past ten years,” said John DiSanto of Philly Boxing History Inc. “And Taneal Goyco has won it twice. If you sleep on this guy, he makes you pay for it.”
