Representant la seva ciutat natal de Brooklyn, N.Y., Colbert (11-0, 4 KOs) ha començat a fer-se un nom mostrant grans habilitats a través de les seves primer 11 victòries pro. Hard-Hitting & Dangerous Jorge Cota to Step In and Replace Harrison Sunday, Juny 23 in FOX PBC Fight Night on FOX & FOX Deportes Main Event at Mandalay Bay Events Center

LAS VEGAS (Juny 3, 2019) – Súper welter campió mundial Tony Harrison injured his ankle in training last week and has withdrawn from his title defense against former world champion Jermell Charlo that was scheduled to headline FOX PBC Fight Night on FOX and FOX Deportes Sunday, Juny 23 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Harrison has an inner and outer ankle sprain with torn ligaments in his right ankle and he will be out for 10 weeks before he can resume training. Harrison and Charlo plan to have their rematch later this year.

Stepping in to replace Harrison for a 12-round fight is the always dangerousJorge Cota (28-3, 25 KOs), who most recently lost a disputed split-decision in April on FS1 against Jeison Rosario. The 31-year old from Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico had scored three straight knockout victories before the defeat in April.

“Watching my Mexican brother Andy Ruiz fight last weekend, I am very motivated,” va dir la Cota. “I saw how he got an unexpected chance to become a champion and surprise the world. He has inspired me to win this fight in the same way. I will shock the world on June 23 just like Andy did on Saturday, for Mexico, the country that I love. This is the most important fight of my career.”

“As we have seen from Andy Ruiz’s incredible upset of Anthony Joshua in the heavyweight championship fight on Saturday night, replacement fighters are not to be taken as a joke,” va dir Tom Brown, President de TGB Promocions. “Jorge Cota is a dangerous fighter. He has heavy hands and he’s looking for an opportunity to make a statement. Jermell Charlo realizes just how serious this is and he wants to get his title back. I know he’s going to be prepared to make his own statement.”

The 29-year-old Charlo will now have to wait for his opportunity to avenge the only loss of his career and regain his title against Harrison. Lluitant fora de Houston, Texas, Charlo won the vacant WBC title with a devastating knockout victory over John Jackson in 2016. He made three successful defenses of the title with highlight-reel knockouts over Charles Hatley and Erickson Lubin, plus a majority decision win over former champion Austin Trout.

“It feels like a heartbreak,” Said Charlo. “I was ready to destroy Tony Harrison and now I’m going to get in there and destroy Cota. I always pray for my opponent to have safe care and make it to the fight healthy. It’s unfortunate that Tony Harrison isn’t my next victim. I want the best Harrison so I want him healed up and ready to go, because that will only bring out the best in me.

“I feel my title was taken from me and being held hostage and I want it back. I will go through anything to get it back. The moment he’s cleared to fight I want the match and I will get my title back. I’m going in June 23 for a dominant victory with a ferocious attitude and a mindset to destroy, because I know I can’t leave it to the judges anymore.”

Harrison’s injury is the latest twist in the super welterweight division that started last December when Harrison and Charlo’s first encounter took place live on FOX. Harrison won the decision to upset Charlo and take away the title. The close nature of the bout helped warrant an immediate rematch that promises to be just as highly charged and dramatic. Juliano “J-Rock” Williams scored a hard-fought unanimous decision over Jarrett Hurd as the IBF and WBA titles changed hands as well in May.

This setback for Harrison, who is from Detroit and was trained early in his career by the late Emanuel Steward, is another challenge for the 28-year-old champion. Harrison was on track for a title shot before suffering the first loss of his career in 2015 to Willie Nelson. After three-straight wins, he earned a shot at the vacant 154-pound title against Jarrett Hurd. Although Harrison had strong moments in the fight, he eventually lost to Hurd and was forced to again climb to the top. After another three victories, including a win over former champion Ishe Smith, Harrison took advantage of his second world title opportunity against Charlo.

“Fins ara el campament ha estat fantàstic. Em sento genial i estic ben preparat. És una sensació increïble estar lluitant a la meva ciutat natal. És gairebé un somni fet realitat per a mi. Tenir la meva pròpia targeta en aquest nivell i en aquesta etapa, demostra el suport que Houston té per mi".

"Agraeixo l'oportunitat que tinc de pujar al ring amb aquest home davant meu. Estic molt emocionat amb això i no puc esperar. Aquests són dos millors lluitadors que pugen al ring i donarem un espectacle als fans.



"No és només el que veig a Jermall, és el que crec en mi mateix. La combinació de treballar amb Dub Huntley i Freddie Roach és perfecta. Tots dos són veterinaris experimentats i m'ensenyen coses noves cada dia.

“Abans The Contender Vaig sentir que no tenia l'oportunitat de demostrar el bo que sóc. Durant tota la sèrie es va tractar de tornar al ring i sacsejar l'òxid, després mostrant qui sóc.



“Guanyant The Contender m'ha ajudat a arribar fins aquí, però sempre vaig tenir confiança i vaig creure en mi mateix des del primer dia. En triar acceptar el repte de Charlo, Tenia en la meva ment que pertanyo aquí.



"Era pressió cada vegada que continuava lluitant The Contender. Cada ronda eren oponents de qualitat abans de la final i tot això em prepararà per a Charlo. Es mereix tot el que ha aconseguit i el respecto com a home, però aprofitaré aquesta oportunitat.

RENO’S JJ MARIANO TO MAKE PRO DEBUT / CARSON CITY’S ELIZONDO RETURNS TO RING JUNE 8TH

Maig 30, RENO — Northern Nevadans JJ Mariano and Diego Elizondo are scheduled to fight on the June 8th world-championship boxing card at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. The event is presented by Top Rank Inc., Anem a Get It On Promotions, and the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa. The evening’s feature attraction matches World Champion Oscar Valdez (25-0, 20 KOs) against Jason Sanchez (14-0, 7 KOs) for the WBO Featherweight World Title.  



Making his highly anticipated pro debut, Reno’s own JJ Mariano will be fighting William Flenoy of Fresno in a four-round jr. welterweight bout. Mariano, who has been exciting local boxing fans by fighting for University of Nevada Reno’s boxing program, is ready to throw his hat into the prize ring.  

“I’ve been looking forward to fighting professionally for about a year now.” Says Mariano. “Being able to have your first pro fight in your hometown is something special.”

Mariano, who is a Reed High School graduate, has also recently participated in various Golden Glove tournaments.

In a battle of undefeated prospects, Carson City lleuger Diego Elizondo (2-0-1) will be fighting Sacramento’s Sergio Vega (2-0) in a four-round match. After a layoff, Elizondo is eager to get back into the squared-circle.

“I have bigger plans in boxing.” Says Elizondo.  “A win over Vega will be a step in the right direction.”

La millor perspectiva de pes pesat nord-americà Jermaine Franklin returns for his second consecutive test of 2018 a ShoBox against the streaking Jerry Forrest in the 10-round headliner. Forrest (25-2, 19 KOs), de Newport News, Va., has won eighteen consecutive bouts since dropping back-to-back contests to world title challenger Gerald Washington and Michael Hunter, whose only professional loss came to former undisputed cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk. Forrest, a 6-foot-1 southpaw, scored an eight-round unanimous decision over Joshua Tufte his last time out in April.



“This is a long time coming for me,” said Forrest. “My record and my potential are definitely worthy to fight in the main event on national television. This is where I should be. I’m very comfortable and I’m not at all overwhelmed. I’ve fought in the Nationals and big tournaments and I’m not afraid of the spotlight. Franklin throws a lot of punches and tries to bully you out. He’s not super accurate from what I see. He’s a heavyweight who will try to outwork you. I see him as a very similar fighter to Andy Ruiz. My training is going great, I haven’t been out of shape in two years. I’ve been in the gym grinding and doing it old school.”



Wallin (20-0, 13 KOs, 1 ND) va fer la seva U.S. debut on SHOWTIME in April, also on the undercard of Shields-Hammer, but his fight with Nick Kisner was cut short after an accidental headbutt left Kisner unable to continue, resulting in a No Decision. This is a sport where everything can change in the blink of an eye.”



Flors (34-4-1, 21 KOs) es va convertir en professional en 2003 and has enjoyed a long, successful career competing mostly as a cruiserweight. MATAMOROS, MÈXIC (Maig 30, 2019) – Prince Ranch Boxing 18-year-old featherweight sensation, Ricky Medina (3-0 2KOs) de Sant Antoni, Texas, will return to the ring this Friday for his fourth professional bout at The Casa Ahida Cafeteria Gourmet in Heroica Matamoros, Mèxic.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Volta. (Maig 29, 2019) – Els boxejadors lluiten per diverses raons. Pes gallo de l'equip dels EUA Duke Ragan és conduït al gimnàs i al ring per la seva filla de dos anys, Kennedy Ragan.


El Ragan, de 21 anys, s'entrena amb els seus companys de l'equip d'elit a Colorado Springs, Colorado, que és molt lluny de la seva llar i filla a Cincinnati.

“És difícil estar lluny d'ella,” va admetre Ragan, “però ella em motiva. Estic boxant pel nostre futur.”

El futur de Ragan a la boxa és brillant. Ell és el núm. 1 pes gallo als Estats Units, que planeja cobrar després del 2020 Jocs Olímpics al Japó.

Tot i que va tenir el seu primer partit d'aficionats quan tenia set anys, Ragan va néixer pràcticament per boxejar, evident per les imatges d'ell quan era un nadó amb guants de boxa per a nadons. El seu pare i entrenador, Derek “Duc” Drap1, que va anomenar el seu fill amb el seu propi sobrenom, tenia molts amics que eren boxejadors. Ragan té ganes de venjar la seva polèmica derrota davant Caicedo als Jocs Panamericans. “Jo era el núm. 1 llavor a la classificació panamericana, i crec que seré el núm. 1 llavor als Jocs Panamericans,” va comentar Ragan. “Crec que vaig prendre una mala decisió a les semifinals. Hi haurà una bona competició als Jocs Panamericans, però ningú per qui em preocupi.”

Es descriu a si mateix com un boxejador pur a qui li agrada moure's pel ring fent cops, Ragan també té prou poder per adormir els oponents. Vol formar part de la rica història de la boxa de Cincinnati, que ha produït grans de tots els temps com ara Aaron Pryor,Ezzard Charles, Adrià Broner, Rau'shee Warren i Tim Austin, entre d'altres.

“Pryor i Charles van boxejar a la mateixa comunitat on vaig créixer,” Ragan va assenyalar. “Realment encara no he fet res, però seria fantàstic ser campió del món com ells.”

La boxa dels EUA ha tingut un paper important en la vida jove de Ragan i, si aconsegueix el seu desig, continuarà essent almenys durant un any més o menys. “El meu focus principal és 2020, Em preocuparé per convertir-me en professional després d'això,” va remarcar. “La boxa amateur m'ha portat un llarg camí. Finalment, Duke Ragan vol continuar representant el seu país i viatjant per tot el món, amb optimisme, reservar un viatge a Tòquio l'any vinent.

Sometimes there are fights that just capture the Boxing World’s attention, Gatti-Ward, Ali-Frazier, Froch-Kessler, Holyfield-Bowe, Marquéz-Vazquéz etc that afterwards the fans go out of their way demanding a rematch and in some cases a trilogy or more as in the case of Marquéz-Vazquéz!


In each of the cases mentioned above these were prime time internationally broadcast events, however sometimes there’s a fight that slips under the radar of the majority of fans for one reason or another.


One such fight was the Ben McGivern versus Navid Iran ‘Fight of the Year’ nominated Battle Royale back in November last year, which was broadcast live only on Facebook.


Whilst it did pass under the radar of the majority of fans worldwide, it may surprise many readers to learn that after the first fight, so many boxing fans were lighting up Social Media calling for McGivern-Iran II, that Promoter Tommy Jacobs just couldn’t ignore them and so on the 22nd June at the Prince’s Theatre in Clacton-on-Sea these two warriors will enter the arena to battle it out once more, this time for the World Boxing Union (UMC) International Crown.


Back in November McGivern-Iran, battled it out for the vacant Professional Boxing Council (PBC) Silver International Light Heavyweight title was the headline bout on Tommy Jacobs’ history making event, the first professional boxing event in Clacton-on-Sea since 1939, when Mike Kevan beat Charlie Mack.


Battled it out is the correct term; aquest va ser un Battle Royale de proporcions èpiques.

Les següents rondes es van lluitar en una línia similar. La ronda final, però, va ser una guerra total; both boxers throwing caution to the wind and an all out slugfest ensued for the entire final three minutes – what an exhilarating round.


After eight fantastic rounds of boxing it was Ben McGivern declared victorious, but just who will reign victorious on the 22nd June.


Ben McGivern versus Navid Iran II, per la Unió Mundial de Boxa (UMC) International Light Heavyweight Championship is the main support for Nathan Decastro versus Tommy Jacobs for the World Boxing Union (UMC) and World Boxing Foundation Super Middleweight Championships that headlines the show.


Also on the card is a further Championship fight, one that pits St Albans’ Andy Hojdys against Latvia’s Dmitrijs Ovjannikovs for both the World Boxing League (WBL) International and European Boxing League (EBL) European Light Heavyweight titles.


In addition to the three Championship contests, there are also a number of International matches, the first featuring World Boxing Council (CMB) Asia-Pacific Champion, India’s Neeraj Goyat in an eight round non-championship bout against Tanzania’s Amos Mwamakula.


Ipswich’s unbeaten Super Middleweight prospect Rob Elden looks to keep a clean sheet and extend his tally of wins when he faces the highly experienced Nicaraguan hard-man Ronny McField in a six rounder.


Clacton-on-Sea’s undefeated Featherweight Ben ‘The Claxican’ Cook also seeks to increase his win tally, when he faces Pablo Narvaez, who also hails from Nicaragua, in a four rounder.


The final Pro bout features Dean Porter, who is eager to get back to winning ways, following his loss to Jack Jones last month.


Porter also faces a Nicaraguan, in this case former International Boxing Organisation (IBO) i el Consell Mundial de Boxa (CMB) Youth World Title challenger Michael Isaac Carreo in a four round non-championship contest.

(Maig 25, 2019) – Former super welterweight champion Austin “No ha Dubte” Truita (31-5-1, 17 KOs) battled former title challenger Terrell Gausha (21-1-1, 10 KOs) to a split draw (96-94 for Trout, 99-91 for Gausha, 95-95) in a 10-round super welterweight bout that headlined Premier Boxing Champions on FS1 and FOX Deportes on Saturday night from Beau Rivage Resort Casino in Biloxi, Mississipí.

“We need to do that again. That wasn’t right,” said Trout of Las Cruces, N.m. “Tornem a fer-ho. That was after a year layoff. Timing is going to be off. Now that I am a little more active. I need an immediate rematch. Immediate.

“You never know how the judges are seeing it, but I know 99-91 per (Gausha) wasn’t right. I was definitely in there more than one round,” continued Trout. “But I didn’t feel good in there tonight. I had to force a lot of things, and I had to close the gap in the later rounds.”

“I felt like I won the fight,” said Cleveland native Gausha. “That’s boxing sometimes. You don’t get the decision.

The opening bout on FS1 featured Ahmed Elbiali (19-1, 16 KOs), an Egyptian-American who lives in Miami, Florida, scoring a technical knockout victory over Marlos Simões (13-2-2, 5 KOs) of Curitiba, Parana, Brazil who was unable to continue due to an injured jaw. Elbiali knocked Simões to the canvas and referee Keith Hughes stopped the contest 2:12 al segon quadre.

“When he went down, I clipped him with a left hook,” Said Elbiali. “I knew right away that I could hurt him, and that hook felt like it landed well. He was a tricky and really awkward opponent, but I just went for it and got the job done.

“I don’t really like calling out individual fighters, but I feel like I’m ready for a world title shot,” continued Elbiali. “We’re getting better with every fight and I’m ready.”

The swing bout on FS1 saw Chicago’s Shawn Simpson (10-0, 3 KOs) derrota Sergio Quiroz (6-2, 1 KO) of Los Angeles by unanimous decision (60-54 X 3).

The PBC Prelims on FS2 and FOX Deportes featured hard-hitting cruiserweight prospect Efe Apochi (8-0, 8 KOs) of Nigeria continuing his perfect knockout streak as he stopped Brooklyn’s Earl Newman (10-2-1, 7 KOs) 2:17 into round seven.

Nicknamed “The Towering Inferno” and trained by his father, the 21-year-old Fundora fought three times in 2018 and has been called the tallest 154-pound boxer in the division’s history. Often holding a five- to eight-inch height advantage over his opponents, Fundora has knocked out his last four opponents and started 2019 in electrifying fashion with a third-round knockout of then 10-0 Donnie Marshall. Nine of his 12 wins have come against opponents with winning records.



“It’s an honor to be the headliner on a ShoBox event,” said Fundora, originally from West Palm Beach, Fla., whose all-action style has been compared to former world champion Antonio Margarito. “My opponent, Hector Zepeda, is from a respected Tijuana boxing family and he will be very tough. Also 21-years-old, Zepeda is a busy, five-year veteran who goes by the nickname “Baby” and who fought five times in 2018. The 21-year-old Rivera from Santo Domingo, República Dominicana, is a hard-hitting three-year professional fighting for the first time in the United States. Rivera has stopped five of his last six opponents and was last seen scoring a two-round stoppage over Argentina’s Carlos Daniel Cordoba in January. He has faced eight fighters with winning records, including two who were previously undefeated.



“I am super excited to have this opportunity to fight on ShoBox,” Rivera said. “That is where all boxers dream to fight on, especially those with less opportunities like me. My opponent is shorter than me and fights at half-distance and likes to counterattack. He uses his jab a lot and is used to fighting bigger rivals. He’s also more active the first three rounds, then starts to lower the intensity. I need to be aware of his overhand right.”



The 20-year-old Tellez Giron is a native of Queretaro, Mèxic. The undefeated slugger known as “El Bravo” is an almost four-year professional with a reputation for fighting in his opponents’ backyard and still coming away victorious. Un aficionat consumat, Tellez Giron had 180 amateur fights starting at the age of 12 and was a state, regional and national champion, as well as Golden Gloves champ. He turned pro at the age of 15 i en 2018 traveled to Ukraine where he captured the vacant WBC Youth Silver title. The 23-year-old Romero is a native of Cordoba, Argentina. He won the World Boxing Council Latino Super Featherweight Title in November 2017 and defended it twice. He is also the current Argentina (FAB) Super Featherweight Title and International Boxing Federation Latino Super Featherweight Champion.



“I am a proud champion of Argentina, but now I’m ready to do what so many of my great countrymen have done and bring my skills to the world,” said Romero, fighting for the first time in the U.S. “It is a great honor to fight on SHOWTIME, where so many champions have fought before me. From my pro debut, my promoter Sampson Lewkowicz has promised me this chance and now it’s here. I will not blow it. I am training like all my dreams depend on winning. They do.”



Solano is a 26-year-old native of Monteria, Colòmbia. The hard-punching Solano is a former World Boxing Association Fedebol Lightweight Champion and in 2012 placed third in the Colombia National Games. En la seva última baralla, he scored a five-round stoppage over Jesus Manuel Sandoval in October 2018. He is currently training at Compton Boxing Gym in Compton, Qualif., and is trained by Jose Ponce, Sr. and his son Jose Ponce, Jr.



“I feel very fortunate to have this platform to showcase my talent,” Solano said. “My opponent has an extensive record and I know he’s a good fighter and, com jo, I know that he is probably preparing for a war. I look forward to demonstrating all the hard work I am putting in for this fight and at the end of the fight, I will continue to be undefeated.”
