From East LA to Team USA Flyweight boxer Anthony Herrera is living the dream

COLORADO SPRINGS, Klín. (Únor 20, 2020) – From the mean streets of East Los Angeles to a berth on Team USA is a remarkable achievement for 19-year-old flyweightAnthony Herrera, who recently was selected to be a member of the 2020 Olympic Games Tokyo Boxing Qualification Team.

“Since I was very young,” Herrera spoke about growing up in East LA, “my parents always kept me in sports. Being so occupied with sports was actually a distraction from what was going on around the city. So, I never had time to get into trouble and my parents kept me away from a bad lifestyle. Once I started boxing, I took it seriously, staying focused and setting goals. I was a little older at that time and whether or not I wanted to partake in boxing or wanted to make a career out of it was all up to me, and I always had my parents full support. Boxing has been a big part of my life. I’m always looking forward to the next workout or anything boxing related. It’s part of my image at this point.”

Going to Argentina is no different, the nerves are still there, but so is my determination to get to Tokyo.”

A 2018 National PAL and 2019 Western Elite Qualifier champion, Herrera recently finished second at the 2020 U.S.. Olympic Team Trials and third at the 2020 Strandja Tournament in Bulgaria.

“The amateur boxing accomplishment I’m most proud of is making the United States Qualification Team as a flyweight,“Podotkl. “It was tough to make it here and knowing that I overcame the obstacles I faced on this long journey to where I’m at now makes me very happy. I can truly say I earned it.

“My first International boxing match (Strandja) was a little different from what I’m used to. The equipment we used and fighting without headgear created more risk when fighting, but I had fun in my first international fight. I already have the feel for that environment and am more comfortable now.

“I really enjoy training in Colorado Springs with my teammates, because it’s a great experience that only the best athletes get. I love training at home as well, but there are less distractions in Colorado Springs. I get to focus 100-percent on my craft and get to travel more.”

Herrera, who describes his style as a “swarmer”, applying pressure and breaking down his opponent, žije svůj sen.

“Fighting in the Olympics was always big for me, but getting a gold medal is my dream,” he added. “I’ve always wanted it because no one can ever take that away from me, and the story and work that is put behind a gold medal is priceless. In my opinion it is harder than winning a world title in professional boxing. Being this close to the Olympics, I’m proud of myself but not satisfied. I know that I still have work to do and I’m taking one step at a time. The next step for me is to qualify for the Olympics at the Olympic Qualifier.”

Mají přirozenou rychlost 18, 19 let, ale jejich síla se plně nerozvinula, ještě. Učí se a já mám dobrou práci. Moje č. 1 sparing partnera, Limon, má více než 100 amatérské souboje. Jeho styl je podobný Alamovu. Je vysoký a dlouhý, ale ne tak silný jako Alamo. Skvěle hází údery a boxy, který mi pomůže, když budu bojovat s Alamo.

Bojuje se na dvorku Alama: "Vůbec mě to nezajímá. Můj první zápas s RJJ Boxing byl v Las Vegas proti místnímu bojovníkovi.", Chuy Gutierrez, a ten boj jsem vyhrál. Nevadí mi bojovat na dvorku soupeře a zvykám si na to. Můj poslední zápas byl v Renu proti kalifornské stíhačce, který žil mnohem blíže Renu než já v San Antoniu. A bojoval jsem s místním bojovníkem v New Hampshire, když jsem se porval holou rukou.“

17.února, NYC — China’s Meng Fanlong (16-0, 10 KO) will fight IBF & WBC light heavyweight champion, Artur Beterbiev (15-0, 15 KO), March 28th at the Videotron Center in Quebec City, Kanada. Beterbiev vs.. Meng is presented by Top Rank in association with Groupe Yvon Michel and Gestev, and will be broadcast live on ESPN along with a co-feature bout at 10 PM ET.

Fanlong, who is from Chifeng, Inner Mongolia China, has more than just his world title shot on his mind. His home country has been essentially shut down due to the recent Coronavirus outbreak.

“The majority of my country has been shut down for weeks.” Says Meng. “My fellow citizens need something to help them escape from this very difficult time. I hope to bring some positivity, happiness, and joy to them with this fight. I want to put pride in their hearts.”




On the 28th of March, Meng will be stepping into the ring with one of boxing’s most dangerous punchers. Champion Artur Beterbiev has won all of his professional fights by knockout – including his thrilling title unification bout against Oleksandr Gvozdyck in October. Meng was in attendance that night in Philadelphia and observed with great interest.

But facing one of boxing’s most dangerous fighters in the ring pales in comparison to the concerns and troubles that are affecting hundreds of millions of Chinese across the globe.

“Fanlong is the best Chinese fighter in the world – everyone will learn that on March 28th.” Says Meng advisor Tommy Lane. “This is a historic fight because he is the first Chinese boxer to fight for the light heavyweight championship. And with what is going on with coronavirus, this is a fight that can bring joy and positive energy to the people at this challenging time.”

It is unknown when the coronavirus will be under control or when the citizens of the The People’s Republic of China can get back to normal life.

Abel Ramos omráčí Bryanta Perrella v Co-main Eventu Welterweight Battle

Nashville, Tenn. (Únor 15, 2020) – Poprvé ve své profesionální kariéře bojoval před bouřlivým publikem v rodném městě, neporažený mistr světa IBF v super střední váze Caleb “Sweethands” Rostlina (20-0, 12 KO) kladen na show.

Plant dominoval povinnému vyzyvateli Vincent Feigenbutz (31-3, 28 KO) Německo, Scoring 10th-kolo TKO Sobotní večer v hlavním turnaji FOX PBC Fight Night a na FOX Deportes z Bridgestone Areny v Nashvillu.

Rostlina, který vyrostl v sousedním Ashland City, úspěšně zvládl druhou obhajobu titulu mistra světa, který získal v lednu 2019 s napínavým 12kolovým jednomyslným rozhodnutím o tehdejším titlistu Jose Uzcategui. “Sweethands” žil podle svého přezdívky, rozbít německý Feigenbutz, než ho odloží.

Ramos se nikdy nepřestal přibližovat, zrychlil tempo, když Perrella zpomalila. S 34 sekund zbývajících v 10th, Ramos dopadl na bradu perfektní levou horní částí. 33letá Magdaleno (32-3, 13 KO) byl prostě rušnější, zvláště v této bitvě Southpaws.

“Psychicky jsem věděl, že ho dokážu zlomit,” řekla Magdaleno. “Kdybych zaútočil na tělo, Věděl jsem, že ho dokážu zlomit. Je to mladý perspektivní člověk. Je vyšší než já, takže můj plán útoku byl přiblížit se a jít k tělu.”

“I Diego mi právě řekl, že s tím rozhodnutím nemá nic společného. On ví. Jak mi to mohou udělat v mém rodném městě? To je špinavý člověk.”

Bojuje před svými spoluobyvateli Nashvillu, Dulay (13-2, 10 KO) začal rychle, přistát několik čistých levých v druhém. Magdaleno se nikdy nepřestávala přibližovat, pracuje za bodnutím a přistává k Dulayovu tělu.

Na nevysílané podkartě, bývalý mistr světa v bantamové váze Rau'Shee “Nuke” Labyrint (17-3, 4 KO) ukončila 13měsíční propouštění širokým 10kolovým jednomyslným rozhodnutím Gilberto Mendoza (15-8-3, 7 KO).

Třiatřicetiletý Warren použil své rychlé ruce k tomu, aby zasadil řadu střel ze svého levého postoje.. Ve čtvrtém, střet hlav otevřel ránu nad levým okem mexické Mendozy. Warren se snažil show uzavřít, ale Mendoza byla hra, střílející, i když překonaný.

But the “Gypsy King” was also born with remarkable nimbleness to go along with a lifetime of developed boxing acumen, gliding around the ring and boxing with a style that would befit a welterweight, not a power forward-sized heavyweight.

Wilder and Fury are distinctive because ironically, giants aren’t usually dominant in sporting fields. While some have been all-time greats-i.e. the 6’9″ Boston Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara, who is a lock for the Hockey Hall of Fame-often times big men are known mostly just for being big, and don’t reach the pinnacle of their sport. And understandably so. Being colossally large is often a hindrance in as many ways as it’s an advantage, particularly when it comes to movement and dexterity. The NFL’s tallest player, seven-footer Richard Singh, played just eight career games, the MLB’s all-time tallest player, the 6’11” Jon Rauch, was a journeyman reliever, and tennis’ 6’10” and 6’11” skyscrapers Ivo Karlovic, John Isner and Rilley Opelka have no majors to their names.

As human beings have become bigger and stronger over the years, přirozeně, so have boxers. Rocky Marciano, standing 5’10 ½” and weighing just above 180 liber, would be a tiny cruiserweight by today’s standards. Boxing has had its share of giants through the years, many of which have fallen short of the elite levels. In recent times, fans will remember the much-hyped American prospect Tye Fields, a towering 6’8″ southpaw who despite a massive amount of hype, never fought for a world title. Julius “Towering Inferno” Long started his career 5-0, and at 7’1″ with a 90″ reach looked like a force to be reckoned with, before settling in as one of the sport’s most notorious journeymen and reliable sparring partners.

Wilder and Fury are a remarkable blend of size and athleticism and are bucking the trend that you can be “too big” být skvělý. How has training camp been going in preparation for February 28?



Hitchins: “Camp is good, but I’m always in camp. There’s never a time when I’m not preparing and perfecting my craft, I’m really a student of the game. I know that I’m approaching that next level in my career, so I have to stay sharp and in the gym to perform at that next level.



“I’m headed to Colorado to finish training camp. It’s where the Olympic training center is, and it’s a place I’ve gone a couple of times to finish my camp. The air is better up there and that really helps me to get in better shape going into the fight.”



DeLomba: “Training camp is going wonderful. I’m getting everything I need to prepare for the fight: výživa, meal plans, and strength and conditioning. I’ve added a new strength and conditioning coach and I’ve tweaked things to adjust to Hitchins’ style. I’m ready to go and I can’t wait for fight night.”



What is your game plan going into this fight?

I’m at a point in my career where the competition is getting tougher so the main thing for me is keeping my defense tight. My defense will keep me in good shape during the fights as the competition gets steep. But overall, I always have the mindset that I’m the better, smarter, and faster fighter.



“I surround myself with champions. That’s the only way to become one and this fight gets me one step closer.”



DeLomba: “I plan to go in and fight smart; stick to the game plan my team has for me and execute it well. My goal is to overcome whatever he tries to throw at me.”

LAS VEGAS – Dnes, FOX Sports and ESPN announced an extensive Wilder vs. Fury II fight week and fight night programming lineup in advance of the highly anticipated rematch between undefeated heavyweight champion Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder and unbeaten lineal champion Tyson “The Gypsy King” Vztek koná v sobotu, Únor. 22, in a historic, joint presentation by FOX Sports PPV and ESPN+ PPV live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The Wilder vs. Fury II PPV begins at 9:00 PM ET and features former heavyweight world champion Charles Martin squaring off against former title challenger Gerald “The Black Rooster” Washington in a 12-round IBF Heavyweight Title eliminator as the co-main event. WBO Junior Featherweight World Champion Emanuel “Vaquero” Navarrete, a.k.a “The Mexican Iron Man” will defend his title against Filipino contender Jeo Santisima in the PPV featured bout. Plus in the PPV opener, super welterweight sensation Sebastian “Towering Inferno” Fundora bude čelit 2016 Australian Olympian Daniel Lewis in a 10-round battle of unbeatens.

Prelims will begin at 7:30 PM ET on FS1, ESPNEWS and in Spanish on FOX Deportes and ESPN3, featuring two explosive bouts. ESPNEWS’ coverage will switch to ESPN at 8:00 PM ET.

Fight week and fight night programming will feature a quartet of former champions and current FOX Sports and ESPN analysts, including three-time world heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis, former two-division world champion and 2004 U.S.. FOX Sports and ESPN’s presentation of Wilder vs. Fury II will feature unique production upgrades to bring fans closer to the ring and deliver views that enhance their experience. The production will include 35 cameras – unprecedented for an ESPN boxing production – seven super-slow-motion and six robotic cameras, a 4D camera system that allows 360 degree replays, a mini FlyCam, a JITA camera for unique shots, as well as bumper corner cameras.

Celebrated manager Jackie Kallen predicts unbeaten Mykquan Williams will be her sixth world champion

MANCHESTER, Conn. (Únor 12, 2020) – Women’s pioneerJackie Kallen, the first and arguably most successful female manager in the boxing history, strongly believes unbeaten 21-year-old“Marvelous” Mykquan Williams (15-0-1, 7 KO) will develop into her sixth world champion.

Williams, fighting out of East Hartford, CT, is the reigning the World Boxing Council (WBC) United States super lightweight champion.

“Mykey has a lot of the qualities as some of the greats in boxing,” Kallen said. “He has some of the flash and speed of fighters like Ray Leonard, and the training habits and dedication of Thomas Hearns a Mike Tyson. He also has a killer smile and good looks like Hector Camacho, Sr.

“Mykey can go all the way to a world title. He has the speed, attitude, and heart, along with exceptional boxing ability. He has been groomed perfectly by his trainer, Paul Cichon, who has kept Mykey true to his style, working hard to perfect his skill. Mykey trains hard, eats right, and takes the game seriously.”

“Jackie’s very experienced and knowledgeable in boxing,” Williams remarked. “She’s worked with some great, world-class fighters, so she knows the route to take for me to get there.”

Boxing has dramatically changed since Kallen covered her first fight for a Detroit daily newspaper in 1978. The card showcased Hearns andMickey Goodwin.  She became an instant fan and wrote about boxing on a regular basis. A legendary trainer/manager based in Detroit, Emanuel Steward, hired her as a publicist for his famed Kronk Gym. Some of her best friends to this day are fighters who she worked with back then. She and Hearns still get together.

After serving as Kronk’s publicist for a decade, Kallen decided to branch out and she started managing fighters. Her first client was heavyweightBobby Hitz, who today is a successful promoter and restaurateur in Chicago. She went on to manage a group of Who’s Who fighters, including world championsJames Toney, Bronco McKart, Tom “Boom Boom” Johnson, Pinklon Thomas aNonito Donaire.

Kallen, who overcame sexism in the boxing industry, is best known, možná, for her working relationship with Toney, largely because her life during that period was the inspiration for the popular 2004 film, Against the Ropes, starringMeg Ryan as Kallen.

“Boxing today is a totally different animal,” she explained. “That’s not to say it’s better or worse, just different. There used to be more gyms in every city, heavy amateur programs, lots of shows on television networks, and enough local club shows to keep a young fighter active. “There wasn’t as much information available on opponents either. If you were lucky, you could buy a tape. If the fighter hadn’t been on television, ačkoli, you were out of luck. I had fighters expecting to fight a 14-4 guy who found out at the weigh in that he was actually 16-0.”

Box, likely the second-oldest profession, has continued to survive, albeit often on a roller-coaster ride.

“Today’s fighters are not as quick to fight each other as they were in the days of Hearns/Hagler/Leonard/Duran,” Kallen noted. “Back then, fighters wanted to really fight to be the best they could be. I see fighters today being more analytical and taking less chances.

“There are also more sanctioning organizations today. Back then it was most the WBA, WBC and IBF. Not to mention there was never one person who managed dozens and dozens of boxers at the same time. The game has definitely changed!"

Kallen, though is still heavily invested in the sport she loves. Confident Williams will be her next world champion, her dream is to be inducted into the Hall of Fame with Toney.

“In 1992,” Kallen concluded, “I was named ‘Manager of the Year’ and my love for the sport has never waned. As long as there is talent out there needing guidance, I will stay active.”
