Coyle inspired by Katie Taylor’s performance

Recognized as the biggest in women’s boxing history, Taylor-Serrano took place in front more than 19,000 fans at a sold out מדיסון סקוור גארדן. It was the first time a female fight headlined at The Mecca of Boxing.


Following four fast-paced and competitive rounds, Serrano rocked Taylor in the fifth with a left hook followed by a left cross. Taylor was in bad shape and nearly tasted the canvas for the first time in her career but managed to finish the round on her feet.


Serrano kept the momentum over the next few rounds as she appeared to be headed towards the biggest win of her great career. Taylor impressively turned the tides in the final three rounds of the contest, finding her second wind and outfighting Serrano en route to a split decision victory.


“What an incredible fight that was – major credit to both women” said Coyle, who trained with Taylor in Dublin when both were amateurs. “Katie really had to overcome a lot of adversity against Serrano especially in the fifth round. Katie showed incredible heart and came through like a champion. She’s a true warrior and great inspiration for me heading into the most important fight of my career.”

The media workout also featured fighters who will be competing in undercard action, including Puerto Rican star and WBC/WBO Featherweight World Champion אמנדה "הדבר האמיתי" סראנו, who will enter the ring in the PPV co-feature, אלוף עולם לשעבר איוון Baranchyk and unbeaten Cleveland-native מונטנה אהבה, who meet in a 10-round attraction, plus U.K. כוכבים Daniel “Dynamite” Dubois ו Tommy “TNT” Fury, who compete in separate PPV undercard bouts.

“I couldn’t have thought about a moment like this. I couldn’t have dreamt it. In MMA we over-do it a lot, but it doesn’t always transition into power. It doesn’t always transition into accuracy. He gave me the foundation of how he beat everyone he did.”

“Jake Paul is the main event, but he’s not the main attraction. I am going to make sure I steal the spotlight from him and entice people to enjoy female boxing and to understand that women can fight and put on shows, and showcase that we’re deserving of this opportunity.

“It’s a Puerto Rican champion versus a Mexican champion. That’s enough said. She’s young and hungry and wants my titles, but I’ve worked super hard for those titles and it’s not going to be an easy task to take them away from me.

So I flew my team out here and we do what Tyson did, and it’s easy work.

Already the most-decorated fighter in women’s boxing, having won world titles at every weight class from 115 ל 140 קילו, the Brooklyn-based fighter currently has her sights set on becoming undisputed at featherweight, which means eventually luring the other 126-pound titlists into the ring with her.

Throughout her training for this fight, Serrano has had the opportunity to train side-by-side with the event’s headliner in Paul. While she sees Paul doing what is necessary to reach his ultimate dreams, she too is intrigued by his matchup against the very tough Woodley on August 29.

שילדס, למרבה הצער, אינה מסוגלת להשתתף בקבלת הפנים של היכל התהילה של יום שישי בלילה הזה, כי היא נמצאת באימונים עמוקים להגנת התארים שלה בערב שבת ב-HBO, בשידור חי ממרכז StubHub בקרסון, קליפורניה, נגד פנמקה הרמנס (9-1).

 

 

 

“למרבה הצער,” סיכם מגנים, “אני לא יכול להיות שם אבל, אם הייתי שם, הייתי אומר: תודה לאגרוף USA על האמונה בי בגיל של 16. זה היה כבוד לייצג את אמריקה, לא רק פעם אחת אלא פעמיים באולימפיאדה! אני מודה למאמן בילי (וולש) על שגרם לי לחפור עמוק, בכך שהוא נאלץ להתמודד עם דרכיו ובדיחותיו האיריות, גם לשינוי תרבות האגרוף בארה"ב. תודה מיוחדת למאמן קיי, גַם, אני לא יכול לספור על הידיים שלי בכמה ימים התאמנו 1 לִפנֵי הַצָּהֳרַייִם, כמה פעמים דפקתי על דלת החדר שלו ורצתי, כמה פעמים הוא נאלץ לקחת ממני את הטלפון שלי כי בכיתי או שיש לי בעיה משפחתית. הוא המאמן שיכולתי לספר לו הכל, והוא גם בירך אותי בידע שלו באגרוף וגרם לי להרגיש תמיד בטוח בעצמי כשהוא בפינה. אגרוף ארה"ב הוא לא רק סגל – ארה"ב אגרוף הוא משפחה! למרות שדיברתי עם כמה מילים מתיו ג'ונסון וצוות אחר, אני מודה להם על שהקשו עליי ודאגו שטיפלתי באחריות שלי. אהבה לכל צוות האגרוף של ארה"ב, אני באמת אסיר תודה.”

 

 

 

קלרסה שילדס היא הרבה יותר מאלופת עולם ואולימפית, היא גם מעשה כיתתי, בדיוק מה שצריך כל כך היום.
