STACKED FIGHT CARD OPENS THE YEAR FOR NEF IN LEWISTON

Lewiston, Maine (Gennaio 11, 2017) -Nuova Inghilterra Combattimenti (NEF) returns to the Androscoggin Bank Colisee on Febbraio 11, 2017 con il suo prossimo evento di arti marziali miste, “NEF 27: RESURGENCE.” Proprio oggi, the fight promotion announced the full card for the event. Headlining the evening will be the semi-finals of the tournament to crown a new professional lightweight champion. Young’s teammate, Katie Baker (0-0), will make her in-cage debut against another tough competitor from the Granite State in the form of Walker (2-1), mentre Sarah Ziehm makes her debut against Nicole Burgess (0-1).

YOUNG FEMALE ATHLETES LOOK TO MAKE THEIR MARK AT NEF 27

Lewiston, Maine (Dicembre 14, 2016) -Nuova Inghilterra Combattimenti (NEF) returns to the Androscoggin Bank Colisee on Febbraio 11, 2017 con il suo prossimo evento di arti marziali miste, “NEF 27: RESURGENCE.” Proprio oggi, the fight promotion announced the addition of an amateur women’s bout to the card. Walker (2-1) makes her return to Lewiston to take on the debuting Katie Baker (0-0) in a strawweight matchup.

 

24-year-old Alex Walker has appeared twice previously in the NEF cage. Walker debuted in the spring of 2015 a “NEF 17” against Randi Beth Boyington (1-3). She returned earlier this year to defeat Nicole Burgess (0-1) with a third-round armbar. This past summer, she captured her first regional title on a fight card in Vermont. Walker is a member of Team Kaze based in Lancaster, New Hampshire.

 

“I can’t wait to get back to work in the NEF cage,” exclaimed Walker. “2017 is going to be a good year and I am looking forward to entertaining the great fans in Maine! I can’t think of a better way to start the year. The two times I have fought in Maine, they were both FOTN, looking to Threepeat!”

 

Katie Baker, an 18-year-old from Gardiner, Maine, might be new to the NEF cage, but she is well-known within martial arts circles in the Pine Tree State. Baker began training in combat sports at the age of five. She won the Isshinryu World Karate Championship in 2009 e 2013, and has been a practitioner of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for seven years, regularly taking part in local tournaments. NEW ENGLAND FIGHTS ANNOUNCES THE RESULTS FROM LEWISTON

Lewiston, Maine (Giugno 18, 2016) - Combattimenti New England (NEF) held the fight promotion’s latest event, “NEF 24: PROMISED LAND” il Sabato notte al Androscoggin Bank Colisée a Lewiston, Maine. The event featured a full slate of professional boxing, amateur mixed-martial-arts (MMA) and professional MMA bouts. Quasi 2,000 packed the hallowed halls where Muhammad Ali once defended the heavyweight championship of the world against Sonny Liston. A special video tribute was presented honoring Ali prior to the beginning of the event.

 

For the second time since April, Brandon Berry (11-2-1) e James Lester(11-9-1) è andato la distanza. Questa volta, unlike the last bout which was scored a draw, there was a winner. Lester is travelling back to his hometown of Detroit, Michigan the new Northeast Junior Welterweight Boxing Champion after winning a unanimous decision.

The two athletes battled back and forth in what can only be described as a “thriller” before a deafening crowd. BURGESS SIBLINGS READY TO BATTLE AT NEF 24

Lewiston, Maine (Giugno 16, 2016) – As the only girl in a rough-and-tumble household with three older brothers in Mexico, Maine, Nicole Burgess learned how to fight for pride, for respect, sometimes even just for fun.

Sometimes such sibling rivalries are a challenge and burden. In Nicole’s case, tuttavia, the arrangement furnished three built-in fans and best friends. And the closest bond of all naturally formed with the family’s youngest boy, Ryan, exactly one year and three days older than his sister.

“We were born pretty much back-to-back,” said Ryan Burgess, the pride becoming perceptible in his voice. “She’s always been tough. She’s really strong, just very athletic.”

Ryan, 22, has backed up his three high school championships as a wrestler with a pair of impressive mixed martial arts wins and the New England Fights amateur flyweight title.

Not to be outdone, multi-sport athlete Nicole, 21, finished fourth against primarily male competition in the state wrestling meet her sophomore, junior and senior years of high school. She has carved out a successful college field hockey career at Plymouth State University in New Hampshire.

Similarly accomplished, so close in age, rarely seen apart from one another in childhood, Ryan and Nicole’s athletic and life stories remain intertwined as young adults. Nicole will follow her brother into the NEF cage on Sabato, Giugno 18, making her debut against Alex Walker (0-1) in a 115-pound women’s bout at “NEF 24: Promised Land.”

Anybody who grew up with a brother or a sister probably can imagine the good-natured ribbing that has taken place in training camp.

“He thinks I’m probably going to want to throw up,” Nicole said with a laugh.

Ryan, who will defend his strap on the same card against Dustin Veinott in a rematch of their split-decision title tilt from November 2015, knows there is no substitute for experience in the cage.

Although he was one of the most accomplished wrestlers in the history of his proud community, Ryan discovered in his first two cage confrontations that the variety of skills and size of the crowd at an MMA event demanded a quantum leap.

“You don’t know what to expect,"Lui ha detto. “Before my debut, I had never been in a fight in my life. I thought I had, but I really hadn’t. I told myself ‘It’s just another wrestling match,’ but it’s not.”

Burgess stuck with what he knew best and ground out a unanimous decision over Justin Witham in June 2015.

He was introduced as an independent. His studies at Kennebec Valley Community College interfered with his training schedule, and Burgess’ coaches at Berserkers MMA didn’t want him representing the stable until he spent a full cycle under their watchful eyes.

The same night, he scouted out Veinott’s win over Norman “Sleepy” Fox and felt that he compared favorably to both fighters. He proved it in a championship setting five months later, albeit by an on-paper verdict that most cage-side observers felt could have gone either way.

After struggling to find an opponent worthy for the title shot in his weight class, Burgess was eager to extend Veinott (4-4) a second chance.

“I’ve already been in the cage 18 verbale, which is more fight time than a lot of guys who’ve been in four of five fights can say they’ve had,” Ryan said. “I’m completely confident now with the venue, i tifosi. The only person I hear now is my coach.”

He doesn’t even hear Nicole, although little sister was so enamored with the environment as a spectator that she couldn’t wait to resume her own combat sports career.

“I always watched UFC and stuff like that,” she said. “I actually started boxing before Ryan even got into it.”

Nicole donned the gloves in high school after giving up softball. In sixth grade, she made a similar transition from basketball to wrestling after waiting for a ride home, watching one of Ryan’s grueling mat practices and deciding that it looked fun.

“It was weird at first. I didn’t want to touch the guys,” Nicole said. “Then you heard things like, ‘Oh, it’s just a girl.’ Often times the guys would be stronger, but I had good technique.”

Walker brings experience, in the form of a loss to Randi Beth Boyington, and a tough stand-up game.

Speaking with the typical subtlety of a big brother, Ryan said that Nicole “should be OK as long as she doesn’t get kicked in the head.”

He quickly noted that she has the poise and talent to enjoy a successful debut if she can shake off the requisite whirlwind of emotions.

“As long as she can put together everything she’s learned. You have to overcome the nerves and the adrenaline dump,” Ryan said. “I remember that from my debut. It stunk.”

Nicole said she would like to end the fight early but predicted that it probably will go the distance.

Her brother aims for his first stoppage and forecasts that his improved striking will catch Veinott and everyone else by surprise.

“Up until now, I was focused on school, just graduating in May, and trying to get my career started,” Ryan said. “I was working 40 hours a week for free as an internship and working 20 more hours on the weekend trying to make ends meet. Dustin is going to see a completely different fighter this time.”

WOMEN CONTINUE TO EXCEL IN THE NEF MMA CAGE

Lewiston, Maine (Maggio 17, 2016) – Just days removed from hosting a “Fight of the Year” candidate in Hyannis, Massachusetts between Kylie O’Hearn (1-0) e Angela Young (1-2), New England Combattimenti (NEF) announced that the fight promotion’s cage would host another women’s amateur bout in Lewiston on June 18, 2016. A “NEF 24: PROMISED LAND,” NEF veteran Walker (0-1) returns to the cage to meet newcomer Nicole Burgess (0-0) in an amateur strawweight bout.

 

Walker arrived in NEF in the spring of 2015 to face Randi Beth Boyington (1-3) in what was the cage debut for both women. Just like O’Hearn and Young did this past weekend in Hyannis, Walker and Boyington stole the show at “NEF 17.” They battled tooth-and-nail for three rounds before Boyington took a unanimous decision on the judges’ scorecard.

 

Walker is expected to give another “Fight of the Night” performance at “NEF 24” after an injury forced her out of competition for the past year. Those who know her, including her coach and teammates at Team Kaze in Lancaster, New Hampshire, say that Walker lives to fight. Being unable to climb into the cage for so long has made Walker more determined than ever.

 

“I can’t wait to fight in Maine again,” exclaimed Walker when reached for comment. “I had an injury last year, a month after my fight with Randi Beth. I am recovered and ready to go. It killed me to be on the sidelines. I feel like I earned some respect and some fans in Maine and I don’t want to lose that. I am sure this girl will be ready, but she won’t be ready for me! Between life’s hardships, surgery, perdite, and whatever else, I will not quit until I am successful! It would mean a lot to me to get my first W in front of the Maine fans on June 18th!”

 

Standing opposite Walker on Giugno 18 will be Nicole Burgess. If the name sounds familiar to NEF fans, it should. She is the sister of NEF MMA fighter Ryan Burgess (2-0). Ryan is the reigning NEF MMA Amateur Flyweight Champion. The undefeated streak of the Burgess family in the NEF cage will be on her shoulders at “NEF 24.”

 

Borghese, un nativo del Messico, Maine, wrestled and played field hockey for Mountain Valley High School in Rumford, Maine prior to attending Plymouth State University in Plymouth, New Hampshire. While at Mountain Valley, she placed three times at states in wrestling. She currently trains with Berserkers MMA.

 

“I’m excited about this opportunity to finally get in the cage,” Ha detto Burgess. “After seeing my brother win the title at 125, it really amped me up to take this on since I’ve been wrestling with him for years. This will be an opportunity to show people what I’m made of. I’m ready for a fight.”

Women’s fights in MMA are not a novelty. From the regional level right up to the UFC, female athletes are excelling to heights unseen in other sports. The sky is the limit for Nicole and Alex. Lewiston, Maine (Aprile 10, 2015) - Combattimenti New England (NEF), Numero uno di promozione lotta regionale dell'America, held weigh-ins for its seventeenth mixed-martial-arts event, “NEF XVII,” earlier today at the Ramada Hotel and Conference Center in Lewiston, Maine. Lewiston, Maine (Marzo 24, 2015) - Combattimenti New England (NEF), Numero uno di promozione lotta regionale dell'America, torna al Androscoggin Bank Colisee a Lewiston, Maine su Aprile 11, 2015 con i suoi XVII-arti marziali miste (MMA) evento. NEF ha rilasciato la carta piena lotta per l'evento della scorsa settimana. Proprio oggi, la società ha annunciato l'aggiunta di un incontro catchweight dilettante alla carta di lotta. CJ Ewer (3-1) dovrà affrontare Connor “Solo Knuckle” Barry (4-1) con un peso lotta di 165 libbre.

 

Brocca, un membro del MMA di Young in Bangor, Maine, ha preso i ranghi amatoriale NEF MMA dalla tempesta nell'estate del 2013. Nel giro di sole dieci settimane, Ewer messo a segno tre vittorie, l'ultimo dei quali è stato sul veterano Crowsneck Boutin (6-7). Connor Barry è un combattente indipendente attualmente con sede a Lowell, Massachusetts. Lewiston, Maine (Marzo 18, 2015) - Combattimenti New England (NEF), Numero uno di promozione lotta regionale dell'America, torna al Androscoggin Bank Colisée a Lewiston, Maine su Aprile 11, 2015 con i suoi XVII-arti marziali miste (MMA) evento. Proprio oggi, la società ha annunciato la scheda completa lotta per l'evento. La scheda è prevista per caratterizzare una serie completa di entrambi i periodi professionisti e dilettanti. Dirigenti NEF riferiscono che reazione dei fan ai matchups già annunciate è stata assolutamente positiva.

 

“Non riesco a ricordare con questo tipo di risposta ad una carta di lotta prima,” detto NEF co-proprietario e promotore Nick DiSalvo. “C'è stata tanta eccitazione per ogni lotta che abbiamo annunciato. Abbiamo venduto di tutti i biglietti gabbia-lato quattro settimane prima della manifestazione, e l'ammissione generale sono molto vicino ad essere andata. Non abbiamo mai visto che accada così presto prima. Si dice davvero qualcosa circa la qualità del prodotto che stiamo mettendo su qui a Lewiston. Non c'è dubbio NEF è il biglietto più caldo in città.”

 

Nel main event della serata, Bruce “Pretty Boy” Boyington(10-7) difende il titolo Lightweight NEF MMA contro number-one contender Jamie Harrison (5-1). L'incontro è stato fatto nelle ore successive “NEF XV” lo scorso novembre, quando Boyington difeso con successo il titolo contro Jesse Erickson (3-4) e Harrison malmenato Tollison Lewis (0-4) il suo modo di una vittoria rapida presentazione. La lotta sarà seconda difesa del Boyington del titolo da quando ha vinto lo scorso settembre.

Il Aprile 11 lotta, che si terrà in un catchweight di 150 libbre, determinerà un vincitore definitivo nella rivalità.

 

Kaline “La Dark Angel” Medeiros (3-4) e imbattuto Calie “The Honey Badger” Coltellinaio (3-0) passerà alla storia quando contestano le prime donne professionali lotta MMA su una carta regionale in Maine. Non sarà la prima volta Medeiros è stata una parte della storia. Ha gareggiato in lotta le prime donne in Rhode Island, due anni fa.

 

Anche in azione sul lato professionale della scheda sarà popolare abituali NEF MMA Jesse “The Viking” Erickson (3-4), “The Dog Junkyard” Ryan Cowette (2-2), Elias “Danger Mouse” Leland (2-0) e Microfono “I baffi” Hansen (2-1), tra gli altri.

 

La parte dilettante della card sarà in evidenza da “Assonnato” Norman Fox (3-1) e “Centro” Dave Brown (1-2) in un concorso peso mosca. Fox è imbattuto in Maine terreno ed e 'attualmente il numero tre classificati dilettante pesi mosca nel Nord-Est.
