The road to this fight has been a long one for Santiago. The 25-year-old grew up in Phoenix, Arizona and was frequently in and out of trouble as a youth, eventually leading to his interest in boxing.
“Before I got into boxing, I got into street fights and was getting kicked out of school and all that,” 圣地亚哥说. “I was always the troublemaker. My parents wanted to keep me on the right path. I had friends who were training in a boxing gym. I wanted to join them but my parents wouldn’t let me.
“I kept getting into trouble and by the time I was 14, my brother and sister just started taking me to the gym without telling my parents. They were really mad at first, but eventually they saw how good it was for me and I just fell in love with the sport.”
转为职业选手后 2009, Santiago managed his own career and eventually decided to move to Las Vegas four years ago. He made signing with Mayweather Promotions one of his goals, a mark he achieved last year before his September fight.
“One of my goals when I moved to Las Vegas was to sign with Mayweather Promotions, and now I’m the first Mexican fighter from Mayweather Promotions to headline a PBC show,” 圣地亚哥说. “I felt like it was time to take control of my career and take the next step and get the bigger and better fights. I wanted to be taken care of.”
Before his last fight, Santiago began working with respected trainer Ismael Salas and the two have been preparing a game plan for the tough Ruiz.

Rounding out the card is a tentative barn-burner between local brawlers Mike Smallwood and Aaron Gallant in a bout that is sure to have it’s share of fireworks.
The exciting show marks Teofista Boxing’s 2016 debut in what is shaping up to be a banner year for Western Canadian promotional outfit. With the acquisition of both Alejandro Torres Rynn and Devin Reti as official members of Team Teofista, the brand looks to solidify itself as one of the premier promoters in western Canada. It’s exciting young stable of fighter will also look to make strides this year as Bush, Rynn and Reti all have tentative bouts lined up in Mexico to advance their records in the coming months.

TRASH TALK BEGINS AROUND FEATHERWEIGHT BOUT AT NEF 22

Crafts was successful last Saturday in his attempt to capture the inaugural NEF MMA Amateur Bantamweight Title. He took out Henry Clark (3-2) in the third round of their bout in Lewiston. Crafts is a decorated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (巴西柔术) brown belt out of Team New England United (NEW). He also cross-trains with Central Maine Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (CMBJJ) 在路易斯顿.

 

“I’m excited to step up to 145 to fight Taylor,” said Crafts of the upcoming matchup with Costantino. “I will be very strong at that weight seeing as I cut pretty extensively to make 135. It will allow me to focus on different areas this camp instead of putting a lot of my energy into cutting weight.”

 

Costantino is himself coming off a big win last Saturday at “NEF 21。” It took him a mere 25-seconds to down Frank Johanson (0-1), a training partner of Crafts at CMBJJ, 在第一轮. Costantino is clear that he is coming to fight on 四月 23, and he does not plan on engaging in a grappling contest with Crafts.

 

“Respect to him for coming up in weight,” said Costantino of Crafts. “He’s a glorified pajama warrior that has never been punched in the face with any type of authority. He will clinch quickly and look for the takedown. He’ll realize real quick that he has never fought or trained with anybody like me.”

 

Crafts and Costantino are not strangers to one another. Several years ago, the two met in a jiu-jitsu tournament with Crafts coming out on top.

 

“Taylor and I have competed before in a sport jiu-jitsu tournament,” recalled Crafts. “Taylor says I am a glorified pajama warrior who has never been punched in the face, but if I recall correctly, I submitted him without my ‘pajamas’ no-gi in that tournament pretty quickly. I train with a lot of very talented and tough fighters daily who punch me in the face very hard. People say the same thing about me not getting punched – 很好, I have had four fights and they just haven’t had the chance to. Anyone who has trained with high-level fighters will tell you that gi jiu-jitsu only makes you more of a technical fighter. If he doesn’t believe that, that is fine – he will feel it on 4月23日.”

 

“Johnny did submit me when I first moved to Maine,” Costantino admitted. “Legit submission, and his pure grappling is definitely high level. My grappling is MMA based, not slow jitsu. It’s grimy, grueling and punishing. Pure grappling, I would worry about his game. But it’s a fight, sport jiu-jitsu means next to nothing to me.

 

“I wish I could say people will get to see my whole game, but I can’t guarantee that. Johnny will feel my power and look to go to his comfort zone. I will break him, you will see quit in his eyes.”

A Revolution in Boxer-Manager Relationships
DALLAS, TEXAS, 二月 11, 2015 – In an unprecedented move, boxing manager and owner of AC Sports Management, 阿德里安·克拉克, has issued a challenge to professional boxers all over the world in the form of a free legal document: The Boxer-Manager Agreement now allows professional fighters to contract the services of their managers.

 

 

通常，, 在拳击比赛中, the manager has the boxer under contract for a minimum of three years. The Boxer-Manager Agreement clarifies the role and duties of the manager, giving both parties the opportunity to evaluate one another fairly and to ensure the boxer is in the executive position.

 

“I want guys to develop a mindset of a CEO,” Clark said, “because that’s what they are. They must understand what it is to be in a position of power and able to call shots and make tough executive decisions in their careers.”

 

Clark’s main concern is that many boxers may be working as if they are the subordinate, unlike other executives. “Name me one CEO that is under contract to his spokesperson, or to anyone he is paying” Clark said.
