Buurten (20-0 12 KO), who is trained by Virgil Hunter, returns for his first professional bout in San Antonio since he scored a 2015 knockout over Manuel Vides at AT&T Center in 2015. The 22-year-old has won three straight fights by stoppage since moving up to the 140-pound division last year.
I haven’t been back home in a while, and I’m looking forward to putting on a tremendous performance in front of my family and hometown fans,” Barrios zei. “Als de knock-out komt, early or late, Ik neem het. Als niet, we’re going in there to do what we do best, and that’s win. I’m trying to show that I’m on the level where I can get one of those titles either later this year or early next year.
Fighting out of Santo Domingo, Dominicaanse Republiek, Bernardo (23-2, 17 KO) enters this fight having scored knockout victories in his last two contests. The 31-year-old, die verscheen opShoBox: The New Generation in april 2016, has fought professionally since 2009 and was unbeaten in his first 21 pro gevechten.
I hope that Barrios isn’t underestimating me, because I am full of confidence and positive that I’m going to win,” said Bernardo. “I have a great plan that I’m going to use to catch him by surprise. I don’t care if it’s by knockout or decision, I will win.
Luna (22-0, 15 KO) and Commey (25-2, 22 KO) enter this fight ranked 11th en 3rd respectively by the IBF. The 26-year-old Luna, fighting out of Bellflower, Ca., most recently dominated Andrey Klimov on his way to a unanimous decision last April and faces his toughest competition to date on March 10. Commey rebounded from the narrow defeat to Easter and a subsequent close loss to Denis Shafikov with a unanimous decision victory last March in his native Ghana.
Commey’s a tough competitor whose losses were very close, disputable fights that could have gone either way, so I’ll go in being smart, using my jab and sticking to our game plan,” said Luna. “We’re both boxer-punchers who like to mix it up, throw bombs and brawl if we have to. There’s going to be a lot of action and we might steal the show. We’ll give the fans their money’s worth, either way.
I think this is a good fight where neither of us are the favorite,” said Commey. “After losing two close decisions there is natural pressure to go for the knockout. But I believe that the judges will be fair and reward me if it goes the distance so I can earn another shot at the title. This is my first fight with Andre Rozier and I’m inspired working in his gym with guys like Daniel Jacobs and Sadam Ali. Ik ben 100 percent focused on clearly beating Luna and earning my rematch with Robert Easter Jr.
Figueroa (14-0, 9 KO), the younger brother of former lightweight champion Omar Figueroa, zal zijn 2018 debut against the 24-year-old Aguilar (20-7, 17 KO), after picking up four wins in 2017.
I’m happy to be on such a big card. San Antonio is like my second home,” Said Figueroa, wie is 5-0 with four knockouts in San Antonio. “I’m getting a lot of exposure fighting on this world class event that is headlined by Mikey Garcia. It’s the kind of step-up I need. Little by little I’m becoming well-known, not only in the United States, but by people from around the world.

Dirrell was dropped and knocked out by the punch. The referee ruled that the punch was intentional and disqualified Uzcategui. In the IBF mandated rematch, Dirrell and Uzcategui will look to put themselves in position to fight for the super middleweight title that Caleb Truax recently earned via a majority decision over James DeGale.
Dirrell (26-2, 16 KO), a bronze medal winner for the 2004 U.S. Olympic boxing team, continues his quest for a world championship. I’m extremely excited to be a part of one of the most dynamic tripleheaders this year,” Dirrell said. “This time around I’ll be phenomenal and leave no doubt who the better fighter is. Ik ben 100 percent focused on dominating Uzcategui on March 3 and getting another shot at the title.
The 27-year-old Uzcategui (26-2, 22 KO), who is from Venezuela and now lives in Tijuana, Mexico, worked his way up to the match against Dirrell with a string of four straight stoppage victories, including a stunning upset of Julian Jackson in 2015. Uzcategui dropped Jackson four times on the way to a second round technical knockout victory.
I’m very excited to go get what’s mine,” Said Uzcategui. “I feel I won the last fight. I didn’t feel I did anything wrong. What happened in the last fight is in the past. I’m going to get what belongs to me. The world will see what ‘Bolivitacan do and they’ll want to see more of me.

The tradition started back in the 19th century with The Boston Strongboy,” John. L. Sullivan (Roxbury, MA), the first millionaire American athlete, as well as the firstglovesworld heavyweight champion and finalbare knucklesheavyweight champion of the world. An International Boxing Hall of Famer, Sullivan won 38 van 38 pro gevechten, 30 coming by knockout, with only one loss and two draws.
Another Hall-of-Famer from that era, Jake Kilrain (29-5-8, 17 KO), lived in Somerville and Quincy, both Boston suburbs. Kilrain (1829-1899) also reigned as world heavyweight champion.
Irish boxers from Greater Boston continued this rich tradition through the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries with world champions and top contenders such as welterweight Paddy Duffy (31-3,16, 18 KO), Lawrence welterweight Mike Glover(Cavanaugh – 30-5-5, 16 KO), and Charlestown welterweight Mike “Twin” Sullivan(28-6-16, 17 KO), and Newton bantamweight Jimmy Walsh (33-10-20, 14 KO)
In the 1950’s, Woburn lightweight “Iers” Tommy Collins (61-12, 44 KO) was dropped 10 times at the Boston Garden by world champion Jimmy Carter, until he finally succumbed in the fourth round. His gutsy performance, echter, earned him an appearance on the popular Ed Sullivan Show.

In the 1980’s, Irish boxers made their way to Boston to fight; some returned home after their careers, others relocated in the area. In 1984, Ireland-native Sean Mannion (42-14, 13 KO), who had moved to the Dorchester section of Boston, lost a 15-round decision in Madison Square Garden to Mike McCallum voor de World Boxing Association (WBA) Super Middleweight World Championship.
Steve “Celtic Warrior” Collins (25-2-1, 18 KO) moved to Everett, later to Brockton, to work with Goody en Pat Petronelli, who handled Marvelous Marvin Hagler throughout is Hall of Fame career. Collins captured the World Boxing Organization (WBO) middleweight and super middleweight world titles before moving back to Ireland.
Collins’ jongere broer, Packie Collins, also moved to Brockton to fight. He later worked with Irish heavyweight champion Kevin “The Clones Colossus” McBride (35-10-1, 29 KO), who went on to knock Tyson out and into retirement. McBride, who still lives in Dorchester, was a stablemate of former Team Ireland head coach and current Team USA head coach, Billy Walsh, at the European Games. Both were also Ireland Olympians, respectievelijk, in 1988 en 1992.
