LOWELL, Masse. (Februar 19, 2016) – Fourteen 2016 New England Tournament of Champions winners were crowned last night in the novice class of 70^th annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.

Team Central produced the most individual winners with seven, followed by Team Western with five, and Team Central had two.

The unofficial fight of the night was between Salem, MA welterweight Kenny Larson (Team Central) and his Dorchester, MA opponent Jarrod LoMax (Team Southern), in which Larson won a three-round decision, 3-2.

Portland, ME bantamweight Christian Morales (Team Northern) continued his performance run in the tournament, winning a three-round decision, 5-0, over hometown Lowell favorite Marquis Fowler (Team Central) Morales’ impressive showings in the tournament will lead him into an open division spot in next week’s New Englands.

In a Central N.E. (Større Lowell) heavyweight final rematch, due to a round-time issue, Methuen’s Jesus Flores (Canal Street Boxing) defeated Haverhill’s John Roche (Haverhill Downtown boksning) by the same score as their original match in another thrilling, back-and-forth bout ending a in three-round decision (5-0). The crosstown rivalry between the two gyms and boxers led up to another compelling match with Flores qualifying for Onsdag night’s open class semifinals of the New England Tournament of Champions.

The New England Tournament of Champions open class semifinals and finals will be held næste onsdag og Torsdagevenings, henholdsvis, at Lowell Memorial Auditorium.

The Outstanding New England Boxer in the novice class will be presented to the winner denne onsdag night at the N.E. open semifinals.
