“There’s nowhere to hide on fight night. There’s no change in my focus for Eric. Wladimir doesn’t enter the equation for me. People will talk about him and I’ll answer the questions, but that’s as far as it goes. He’s not in my mind, Eric is.

“It takes courage to step into the ring. Deontay Wilder is known as a one-punch KO artist and Eric stood up to his power, so it shows that he’s here to push the champion and take my title.

“I don’t get involved in other people’s issues or stories, it’s nothing to do with me. It wasn’t that long ago that no one cared what I was doing, so I don’t really have to prove myself to anyone aside from myself.

“The division has been blown wide open but they’ve been saying that for a while and they will keep saying it until someone dominates the division again. It’s not so much about brand and hype, it’s about guys like Eric that come with true heart and are gladiators and fight for the love of the sport, and leave everything in the ring on fight night.

“There’s a lot at stake and with Sky Sports and SHOWTIME behind us, this is a big stage to show what you have got. I’m serious about what I do and about moving forward. I don’t have a script, I can only speak from the heart; whatever Eric’s destiny is, that’s what will happen on the night. If his destiny is to become heavyweight champion, tako bude. But my destiny is to carry on the path I am on and put in a dominant performance on an explosive night of boxing in Manchester."

ERIC MOLINA:

“I’ve been in these fights before. I have no amateur experience so I’m learning no the job — and I’m getting better every fight. I fought five rounds against Wilder with a busted ankle, so everything you saw from me was done on one ankle. That’s the kind of guy this young man is facing. I fight with everything I’ve got. Even if I’m hurt, I still fight, because I know that one punch at any given moment can win me the fight. Anything can happen in the heavyweight division.

“I knew this fight was coming my way because nobody wants to fight him. Let’s be real. All the other fighters want to go and fight other guys and for the other belts and not face Anthony Joshua. I’m a guy that’s been in with Wilder – no one wants to fight Wilder, but I did, and that’s why I’m in London today and will be in Manchester on Prosinca. 10 putting it all on the line, body and soul. I want that IBF belt, I don’t have the option to go for another belt or down another route. This is it for me, and that means he’s going to have the toughest fight of his career, I can guarantee that.

“Tomasz Adamek had never been KO’d, so the momentum from that win in Poland was big. I felt it was time to take time off from work and put 100 percent into this.

“Back home, people know me as a certain type of fighter. On day one of my career I lost in the first round and that’s why on the back of my shirt it says ‘The Art Of Bouncing Back.’ Those aren’t just words. Boxing is the most brutal sport when it comes to trying to bounce back. Once you lose, everybody is gone from your side. There are fighters out there that say they want to bounce back but they don’t have the guts to put themselves in a position to do it. I put myself in the fight with Wilder and I went to Poland and beat Adamek to bounce back and show people who I am.

“You have to prove yourself in this sport and then you can claim the rewards. I didn’t have an easy road to get here, I’ve had to do it the hard way and I’ve earned my way here.’’

A Knockout Bracket consisting of 32 of the most dramatic and memorable KOs of the past 30 years launched on Friday, and an ultimate winner will be revealed during the Prosinca. 10 SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING doubleheader.

The 32 candidates are into broken into four regions – heavyweights, middleweights, welterweights and the lighter weight divisions – with some of the greatest fighters of the last 30 years facing off in this unique tournament.

In the opening round of the heavyweight region, former undisputed heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield will square off with current WBC heavyweight champ Deontay Wilder, while Hall of Famer Felix Trinidad takes on former champ Lucas Matthysse in the welterweight region.

The 16 matchups in the round of 32 launched on Friday at www.showtimeknockouts.com, and the winners will advance to the next round of voting beginning Studeni. 14. Subsequent rounds will continue over the next six weeks until the ultimate reveal Prosinca. 10 na Showtime.

JIMMY HERRERA:

“I’ve been working a full two months for this fight so I’m ready. This is going to be a very good test for both of us, a great fight. He’s a good European boxer, another unbeaten for me. But I don’t feel like I’m coming in as the underdog at all. He’s got his strengths, I’ve got my strengths.

 

“There has to be a purpose for every punch. Each has to count. If he opens up and makes a mistake, I have to take advantage. I need to get him out of his rhythm early, force him out of his comfort zone and make him fight my fight.

What would a win on ShoBox mean to you?

“A win on SHOWTIME would be really huge, but mostly it would keep me going.”

Are they making a mistake fighting you?

“I don’t think he made a mistake, but I refuse to lose this fight. I’m gonna give it my all. He’s not on my level and I’m gonna prove it. I’m gonna fight my ass off.”

On his slugfest with former world title challenger Wright?
“I was winning the fight but I broke my jaw in the fourth round. I had a bad mouthpiece, a cheap one. I never knew mouthpieces needed to be fitted. The surgeon told me if I’d had a pro mouthpiece, I wouldn’t have had a problem.
“I still believe anybody else would have quit in that fight. I was in a lot of pain, I couldn’t close my mouth because the jaw was broke, I was spitting out blood. But I hung in there despite the jaw.

“I had him out on his feet in the last half-minute or so but the referee stopped the fight to give him time to tape up one of the laces on his glove. That gave him time to recover. If the ref hadn’t stopped it when he did, I feel I would have knocked him out.”

On his career?

“I had to work hard for my career. I don’t have a padded record. I do not have it as easy as most in their career. I don’t have a big-time promoter, and I’m not pampered. I’ve fought tough guys throughout my career but I’ve learned a lot and have no regrets. But I feel it’s time for me to step up. After I win Petak na ShoBox, a lot of doors should start opening up me.”

(On your first time fighting in front of a nationally televised audience) ...

“I’ve always been the underdog all my life so this is another shot to prove myself. Freitas has a famous name, but that’s about it. He hasn’t faced anyone that approaches my ability.”

(On what you expect from Freitas) …

“The first few rounds will go a long way in knowing what he has. From watching tape, it seems like he has speed, but the most important thing is gauging his power. I can take a punch so once I feel him connect with something, then I’ll know what he has to offer.”

(On your relationship with Joel Diaz) …

“We have an excellent relationship. He’s incredibly helpful in that I’ve seen a great deal of improvement since I’ve been with him. Everything is better. My conditioning, head movement, rad nogu; I’ve improved in a lot of areas. He’s a great teacher.”

(How would you describe your style for those that have yet to see you fight?) ...

“I’m a smart boxer that pressures fighters into making mistakes. I have all the tools needed to wear down opponents. You’ll always see me in front of you to the point where you get annoyed and start making mental errors. That’s when I put the hurt on you.”

The Chicago native is experienced in fighting favored prospects and contenders on the road and has had an inordinate success in these types of matchups, having defeated unbeaten prospects in four of his last nine fights.

So don’t expect Herrera (15-3-1, 8 Kos) to be in awe of his opponent, former Ukraine amateur standout and rising star, Taras Shelestyuk (14-0, 9 Kos) when they meet this Petak, Studeni. 4, in the 10-round welterweight main event on ShoBox: Nova generacijaživjeti SHOWTIME® (10:30 poslije podne. The 5-foot-10, 27-year-old Herrera has won three in a row and is 8-1-1 since dropping a close eight-round decision to Adrian Granados u veljači 2012. Here are Herrera’s responses to a recent Q&A:

What are your thoughts going into your ShoBox debut?

“I’ve been getting great help with sparring with the best of the best in Chicago. Sam Colonna, George Hernandez and all the Chicago boxing coaches have been great mentors to me and I am very thankful.”

What do you know about Shelestyuk?
“He was a great amateur fighter and he’s a lefty. That’s pretty much all I need to know. The only thing I can give him is that he has experience, so I’ve got to be careful of that. But it’s nothing new – I’ve seen fighters like that.”

What kind of fight do you expect?
“I expect him to be a boxer with movement. I think he’ll try to box me. I’ll be coming forward, being aggressive. Onda, we’ll see what his game plan is.”

What is the key to winning?
“It all depends on the pressure I can apply, throwing the right punches at the right time, the accuracy of my punches. Each punch has to have a purpose. I’m definitely more of a pressure guy. I like Gennady Golovkin’s style, Julio Cesar Chavez is my idol. That is the kind of style I try to fight with.”

On fighting on ShoBox for the first time?

Anthony Joshua MBE is set to defend his IBF World Heavyweight title against Eric Molina at the Manchester Arena on Prosinac 10, live on Sky Sports Box Office in the UK and on Showtime in the U.S.

 

Joshua puts his crown on the line for the second time and fights his third American in a row having destroyed Charles Martin inside two rounds to rip the title from the St. Louis man in April at The O2 in London and then stopping Dominic Breazeale in the seventh round at the same venue in June, extending his unbeaten run in the paid ranks to 17 pobjeda, all inside the distance.

 

Molina becomes the latest man to attempt to derail the Olympic Gold medal hero, the Texan is looking to get his hands on the top prize in his second World title tilt after challenging Deontay Wilder for the WBC crown in June 2015. The 34-year-old enters the bout full of confidence after travelling to Poland and knocking out Tomasz Adamek in the tenth round of their clash for the IBF Inter-Continental strap in April.

 

“I am pleased that everything is now set for Prosinac 10 and I can concentrate on getting the business done in the ring,” said Joshua. “There has been plenty of talk about who I may face but all I’m doing is concentrating on finishing Molina in style and putting on a great show.

 

“Every fight is dangerous in this division and this is no exception. I saw Molina have a great fight with Wilder and he is now coming off a strong KO win against Adamek in Poland.

 

“I’m expecting this to be the toughest fight of my career so far and I will be ready for an all-out war.”

 

“There is no Heavyweight in the world that has bounced back like I have,” said Molina. “That’s the man that Joshua faces on Prosinac 10, and that man is a very dangerous one.

 

“He’ll fight the toughest Molina that anybody has ever seen, just like Adamek fought the toughest Molina.

 

“I’m confident. These type of fights don’t shake me up, I’m a very strong mental fighter. I know exactly what I’ve got to do to prepare myself in the amount of time. I know exactly what I’ve got to do, mentalno, fizički, to go there and perform.

 

“When you walk out into the atmosphere, half the battle is the mental battle, and if you can stay in the moment mentally you have a shot in any fight.”

 

There’s a huge card in support of the main event as Dillian Whyte defends his British Heavyweight title against bitter London rival Dereck Chisora in an official eliminator for the WBC title. Sada ste rangirani borac; jeste li zadovoljni tempom svog napredovanja?

"Zadovoljan sam svojim napretkom, ali naravno da se želim boriti s većim imenima u borbama za prvenstvo i sve to. Znam da će uskoro doći. Uživam u svom načinu treniranja i razvijanju svojih vještina, ali ako vidiš svoj san, učini sve da ga ostvariš i ne dopusti da ti išta stane na put.''

 

Što mislite o poluteškoj kategoriji?

“To je jako dobra podjela jer ima puno boraca, ali neki se ne žele međusobno boriti (vrlo često). Predstoji nekoliko vrlo dobrih prvenstvenih borbi i nadam se da ću ja biti jedan od njih.”

 

Zašto ste se odlučili preseliti u južnu Kaliforniju??

"Dobro, [smijeh] uglavnom zato što ako je odlično vrijeme, ali ovo je također dobro područje s puno dobrih boraca i puno dobrih trenera također. Kad sam se prvi put doselio ovamo, moj me menadžer pozvao van i pokazao mi okolinu te sam odmah otišao u teretanu. Trenirao sam s Ruslanom Provodnikovim i imao sam sparing s njim prije borbe koju je imao i sljedeće što znate, dva tjedna kasnije Imao sam svoj profesionalni debi i evo me sada, tri i pol godine kasnije.''

 

Postoji li pritisak na vas kada se borite?

“Ne bih rekao da osjećam pritisak jer me svi oko mene podržavaju, oni vjeruju u mene i ja vjerujem u njih. Moj tim vjeruje u mene, a ja njima. Samo želim raditi ono što radim u ringu, bolje. Želim učiniti bolje za sebe, za moju obitelj i za moje prijatelje.''

 

Pratite li svoje olimpijske kolege?

“Gledam borbe ukrajinskog olimpijskog tima, i uživam kad drugi dečki pobjeđuju. Podržavamo jedni druge i javljamo se. Dobro je da ima više ukrajinskih boraca koji su sada prvaci. Slijedeće godine, Nadam se da ću biti jedan od njih.”

 

Kakav je bio osjećaj ići 10 kola za prvi put?

“Prošle godine u studenom imao sam svoju prvu borbu od 10 rundi ShoBox, Borio sam se s jakim momkom i pružio mi je jako dobru borbu. otišao sam 10 krugova i osjećao sam se kao da mogu ići još dva. spreman sam za 10, za 12, nije važno. osjećam se mnogo bolje, mnogo moćniji. Imam veću brzinu nego u prošloj borbi, isto."

 

Kako si završio na treningu s Ericom?

“Trenirao sam s Freddiejem Roachom oko dvije i pol godine kada sam upoznao Erica u Wild Card West Gymu.. Tamo sam počeo sparingirati s nekim njegovim momcima. Nakon moje borbe s Rodriguezom na ESPN-u u 2015 Zamolio sam Erica da me trenira i počeli smo raditi. Sada kada sam vodio dvije borbe s njim kao mojim trenerom, Osjećam da su moje boksačke vještine bolje, Osjećam se snažnije i uživam trenirati u njegovoj teretani.

 

“Svi treneri nam pomažu i daju nam savjete. Na dane kada sparingujem sa Shaneom Mosleyem, on stane i da mi savjet. Puno učim od njega, biti legenda borbe kakav on jest. Odrastao sam gledajući ga kako se tuče kao klinac i poštovao sam ono što me može naučiti. Onda sljedeći put probam ono čemu me je naučio i upalit će.”

 

Boks ti je u krvi; tvoj tata i brat su boksali. Kad si bio mlađi, jesi li mislio da ćeš postati borac?

"Ne, ali otac me gurao u mnoge sportove. Bavio sam se gimnastikom, nogomet pet godina, i igrao šah. Tukao sam se kao dijete, ali uvijek je bilo prijateljski. Uvijek sam uživao u aspektu treninga. Trenirajući nogomet ponekad bismo otac i ja trčali bosi po snijegu i uživao sam u tome. Tako, kao dijete, kad sam prvi put kročio u boksačku dvoranu, bilo je tako zabavno.''

Tvoja ShoBox borba pada na rođendan tvog oca; imaš li poseban poklon na umu za njega?

“To me tjera da mu izborim pobjedu. Na njegov dan, on će sjediti i gledati moju borbu pa želim izboriti tu pobjedu za njega, za moju obitelj i za Ukrajinu.''

Kakav je kamp imao Taras imao je i što vidite da se događa u petak?

“Vidim puno napretka u Tarasu. Kad smo tek počeli raditi zajedno, jedna od stvari bila je ta da je Taras uvijek imao sjajne boksačke sposobnosti, ali nije bio sjajan finišer. Ne znam je li bio sramežljiv od oružja ili što je to bilo, ali imao je tendenciju koristiti svoj talent da dovede ljude u nevolju, ali onda bi se povukao i pustio ih da se vrate u borbu. Tako, ono na čemu puno više radimo jest da ga natjeramo da postane bolji finišer i da prepozna kada ima svog čovjeka u nevolji i kako iskoristiti trenutak, a da pritom ne bude nepromišljen. Brzo napreduje.

 

“Čini se da mnogi momci iz Ukrajine imaju slične tendencije jer imaju duge amaterske karijere i počinju preuzimati loše navike koje moramo ispraviti. Taras je imao malo toga u sebi, ali čini se da se vrlo dobro prilagođava. On je izuzetno vrijedan radnik i često mu morate govoriti da uspori, nikad mu ne moraš reći da učini više.”

 

Gdje ga vidite u karijeri velteraša?

“To je sjajna podjela. Rekao bih da je Keith Thurman sada bez sumnje na vrhu, ali ima i dobrih boraca poput Shawna Portera. Ako se Mayweather odlučio vratiti, Mislim da bi opet bio svuda po ovoj diviziji. Canelo je dobar super velteraš, ali previše je zauzet brigom o utezima za ulov. NEW YORK (Listopada. 25, 2016) – SHOWTIME Sports will present seven marquee boxing matches pitting top-10 rated champions in the prime of their careers against fellow top-10 rated challengers over four consecutive months beginning in December. Raspored, which is the second robust boxing programming announcement from SHOWTIME in 2016, was announced today by Stephen Espinoza, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Showtime Sport. The lineup includes two long-awaited championship matchups, Isus Cuellar vs. Abner Mares and Jermall Charlo vs. Julian Williams; the can’t-miss featherweight rematch between Carl Frampton and Leo Santa Cruz, and a welterweight unification blockbuster between undefeated champions Keith Thurman and Danny Garcia. All four of these anticipated bouts will be presented in association with Premier Boxing Champions.

SHOWTIME Sports produced the strongest lineup of world-class boxing events of any network this year, delivering 18 world title fights devoid of mismatches and “tune-up” fights. The best fought the best, and the results were spectacular: two “Fight of the Year” contenders, Thurman-Shawn Porter and Santa Cruz-Frampton; a “Knockout of the Year” frontrunner by one of boxing’s biggest punchers, Deontay Wilder; and the arrival of one of boxing’s most marketable new stars in Anthony Joshua. SHOWTIME also featured the trio of junior middleweight champions, the Charlo twins, Jermall and Jermell, and Erislandy Lara, all in title fights on one card; highlighted the world’s best featherweights in Santa Cruz, Frampton, Gary Russell Jr. and Lee Selby; and set the table for the title unification fight between super middleweight champions Badou Jack and James DeGale.

Boxing’s brightest stars will again take center stage on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING® as the network prepares to present the following seven matchups, including six world title fights, over a 12-week span. All bouts will air live on SHOWTIME with the exception of Garcia vs. Thurman, which will either air live in Primetime on CBS or live on SHOWTIME.

Seven of the 14 fighters are undefeated, while the champions and challengers in the six world title fights boast a combined 313 wins versus just six losses.

Undefeated welterweight world champions Keith Thurman a Danny Garciahave been on a collision course for more than a year. Thurman has held a version of the WBA Welterweight World Championship since 2013 but announced his arrival in March 2015 with an emphatic win over Robert Guerrero. Thurman has since defended the title twice, including most recently against former world champion Shawn Porter in a potential Fight of the Year thriller in June on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING on CBS. Garcia, after conquering the 140-pound division, captured the WBC Welterweight World Championship with an impressive performance against Guerrero in January. Should Garcia defeat Samuel Vargas on Studeni. 12 in a non-title fight, he and Thurman are set to meet in a marquee unification blockbuster between undefeated champions at the pinnacle of their careers.
