NEW YORK (Février. 27, 2016) – IBF 122-pound world champion Carl Frampton unified the super bantamweight division with a split decision victory over WBA titlist Scott Quigg Samedi on SHOWTIME BOXING INTERNATIONAL from Manchester, Angleterre.
An encore presentation of Samedi telecast will re-air later this evening immediately following the live Showtime Championship Boxing® telecast headlined by three-division world champion Leo Santa Cruz et l'ancien Champion du Monde Kiko Martinez. The SHOWTIME telecast begins at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.
The long-awaited matchup of unbeaten champions got off to a slow and tactical start, but Belfast native Frampton (22-0, 14 KOs) established himself as the aggressor and worked his jab to pocket the early rounds. Quigg didn’t come alive until after the seventh, when trainer Joe Gallagher warned his charge that he was likely down big on the judges’ scorecards.
QUIGG (31-1-2) pounded the body and was the aggressor in rounds eight through 11, but it was too little, too late for the Lancashire, England native. Frampton won the 12e and walked away the unified champion by scores of 115-113 for Quigg, mais 116-112 twice for Frampton.
“I couldn’t believe it was a split,” Frampton said. “I don’t know what that lad was watching, but as long as I got my hand raised at the end of the fight, that’s the main thing.
“We have a great rivalry, and it was a great fight at the end. The start wasn’t great, but of course I would do it again. I’m happy to campaign at super bantamweight, but if a big fight comes calling at featherweight – Santa Cruz, Selby, any of these guys – I’m ready for them.”
Quigg admitted he should have pushed the action in the early rounds, but still thought he did enough to get the decision.
“I felt comfortable,” Quigg said. “The judges must have been counting his punches as scoring, but I thought I was blocking them. I should have started faster. I felt comfortable and I thought I was winning the rounds because he wasn’t winning clear. I’m not going to complain. Je veux une revanche. Maybe next time I’ll start a bit earlier.”

Khurtsidze, de Brooklyn, N. Y.. by way of Kutaisi, Géorgie, has won eight straight – including six by knockout – since dropping a controversial decision to then-unbeaten Hassan N'Dam in a bout for the vacant interim WBA World Middleweight Title in Paris in 2010.
Khurtsidze was scheduled to face N’Dam in a rematch last Novembre 21 à Paris, but the event was cancelled following the tragic Novembre 13 terror attacks in France. The rematch with the former world champion was to be contested for the IBF No. 2 spot at 160 livres.

Odom, un amateur de haut et 2012 Champion national des Golden Gloves à 178 livres qui cherchait à renverser la vapeur après avoir perdu deux de ses trois derniers, était satisfait de la décision, même s'il sentait qu'il avait gagné son premier combat dans sept mois.
"Je ne peux pas être déçu de la décision parce que je me suis battu à fond". Odom a déclaré. "Je sais que je l'ai blessé. Il m'a fait un peu mal dans la seconde, mais je me suis remis sur pied et j'ai continué.
«Je sens que je l'ai retiré lors des derniers tours. J'ai travaillé le corps, Je pense que j'ai fait des dégâts. Ellis avait l'air blessé.
"Je veux dire pas de manque de respect, mais je sentais que j'en avais fait assez pour gagner, mais les juges ont vu les choses différemment. »
Dit Farhood: "Ellis-Odom était un combat étrange. Parfois, c'était une bagarre, et parfois c'était un match de boxe. A l'heure, un combattant s'est avancé et parfois l'autre combattant s'est avancé. Je pensais qu'Odom en avait fait assez au cours des deux derniers tours pour sauver un match nul et il s'avère que c'est ce que les juges ont marqué, un tirage au sort. Ce n'était pas moi dans mon premier ShoBox lutte. Je ne sais pas si j'ai gelé sous les lumières ou si j'ai perdu à cause du froid dehors, mais je n'étais pas aussi confiant pour ce combat que moi ce soir et cela a affecté ma performance.

Williams, invaincu auparavant, a avoué qu'il était incapable de suivre son rythme. "Pour certaines raisons, Je ne pouvais simplement pas me détacher. J'ai eu un rhume, mais je n'enlèverai rien à Foster. Il m'a renversé, mais je pensais qu'il m'avait poussé la plupart du temps.
«J'ai appris quelque chose ce soir. Je ne peux pas faire ce que j'ai fait. Je ne peux pas attendre mon adversaire. Je dois attaquer en premier. Je serai de retour. "
Il n'y a eu aucun renversement dans la bataille Brooker-Magda. Un juge a marqué pour gaucher et favori local entrant, Magda 77-74, on l'avait 78-74 pour Brooker et on l'avait 76-76 même.
Après quelques cycles d'échanges aller-retour solides, Brooker semblait dominer aux yeux de tout le monde sauf les juges. Brooker a atterri 152 de 481 poinçons (32 pour cent) pendant que Magda se connectait 78 fa 268 (29 pour cent).
Brooker était visiblement bouleversé par le verdict.
"Je ne m'entraîne pas huit heures par jour, sept jours par semaine pour obtenir ce genre de décision. Ce n'était pas un match nul, J'ai clairement gagné le combat,'' At-il dit. "Je ne veux pas retirer de Magda. Il est un combattant fort et il a bien contré, mais j'ai montré à tout le monde que le travail acharné bat le talent tous les jours.
«J'ai gagné ce combat. J'étais l'agresseur. J'ai jeté de gros coups de poing. Ma droite était la clé. Au début, Magda était rapide, mais j'ai placé mes coups de poing et je sais que j'en ai fait assez pour gagner le combat. »
"Je me sens bien, mais ce fut un combat difficile,»A déclaré Magda. "Il est resté sur moi et a avancé, que nous savions qu'il le ferait. Mais il était plus fort que je ne le pensais. Je vais devoir revoir la cassette, mais je pensais avoir décroché les coups les plus efficaces. »
