TUNICA, MS (Febrúar 2, 2017) – Fyrrum heimsmeistari Luis Collazo (37-7, 20 Kos) delivered an early “Knockout ársins” candidate with a sixth-round knockout of welterweight contender Sammy Vasquez Jr. (21-2, 15 Kos) Fimmtudagur nótt í aðalkeppni á Premier Boxing Champions á FS1 and FOX Deportes from Horseshoe Tunica Hotel & Casino in Tunica, Mississippi.
The Brooklyn-native Collazo started slow as Vasquez Jr. looked to control the fight with his movement and jab. The action began to pick-up in the third round as Collazo struck the first major blow of the fight, connecting on a right hand that sent Vasquez Jr. to the canvas.
Vasquez Jr. stunned Collazo early in the fourth round with an overhand left and pressed forward to initiate numerous exchanges along the ropes. Collazo was able to hold off his younger opponent and do damage with body shots and short punches in the exchanges.
After a more tactical round five, Vasquez Jr. once again pushed forward on Collazo in the hopes of getting his offense going. The veteran Collazo was prepared for the attack and connected on a vicious right hand that put Vasquez on the mat and out for good as referee Bill Clancy halted the bout at 1:27 í umferð.
Í welterweight aðgerð, fast-rising Cuban contender Yordenis Ugas (18-3, 8 Kos) earned a split-decision over Levan Ghvamichava (17-3-1, 13 Kos) in their 10-round bout Fimmtudagurnótt.
It was the third straight impressive victory for Ugas, who has put himself squarely in the conversation in the welterweight division. Ugas was in control of the early part of the fight, winning exchanges in the middle of the ring and breaking through the high and tight guard of Ghvamichava.
Ghvamichava was able to work his way back into the fight with an increased work rate in the middle rounds as he began to find openings in Ugas’ vörn. Referee Bill Clancy deducted a point from Ugas in round eight after multiple warnings for low blows.
The action heated up in the final two rounds as both men exchanged heavy blows throughout. Ugas began to land his left hook successfully but Ghvamichava had his moments and continued throwing punches until the final bell. After 10-rounds of action the judges scores were 99-90, 97-94 for Ugas and 95-94 for Ghvamichava.
In a showdown of unbeaten super lightweight prospects, Chicago’s Eddie Ramirez (16-0, 11 Kos) earned a stoppage victory after nine rounds of action against Houston’s Ryan Karl (13-0, 9 Kos). Karl’s corner stopped the fight before the 10th og endanleg umferð.
Ramirez was the more effective fighter from the start, working off of his jab to hit Karl with a big right hand that staggered him in the second round. Karl was able to weather the storm and compete throughout the middle rounds of the fight as he threw constant power punches in an attempt to catch Ramirez.
The momentum swung to Ramirez for good starting in the seventh round, when another right hand connected with Karl and opened up a cut over Karl’s left eye. A late flurry by Ramirez in round nine as he staggered Karl near the ropes and forced him to hold Ramirez. Karl was able to finish the round, but did not answer the bell for round 10 as his corner put a halt to the fight.
Hér er það sem bardagamenn þurfti að segja Fimmtudagur:
Luis Collazo
Going into the fight I knew he didn’t like the body shots. In the locker room my team was telling me that he’s going to be waiting for it. We wanted to touch him soft down low and then go up top. We opened him up. We both tried to line up the hook and mine landed first.
I’m a slow-starter. I’m better from a distance and I have the experience. Ég er 35 but I still feel like I have a lot left in the ring.
I’ve learned a lot about myself. I’m completely dedicated to this sport and ready to keep moving forward. Everyone said I was faded but now I have the opportunity to keep going.
Sammy caught me with some good shots. He got me with a big overhand left. Hann er sterkur bardagamaður.
There are a lot of great fights coming up in the welterweight division. I know Shawn Porter doesn’t have an opponent right now. I’m ready to get it on if he is.
SAMMY VASQUEZ JR.
I felt like I was starting to get in my groove. He just caught me with a really great shot at the right time.
I knew his big punch was the right hook. I was working on keeping my hand up to block it. I dropped it at the wrong time and he got me.
Obviously this is going to set me back. I need to come back stronger. I hope that I can come back and fight someone that can help me move up the ranks.
YORDENIS UGAS
I boxed from a distance like we prepared. I thought that I was in control and I thought I won easily.
I was surprised it was a split-decision. I thought I won most of the rounds. He was a very tough opponent but I was ready for him and I did what I wanted to do.
I was feeding off of my corner. I’m a top contender and I’m ready to face anybody.
LEVAN GHVAMICHAVA
I’m disappointed in the result. It’s hard to put into words. Það var náinn berjast. I thought a lot of his shots were being blocked and I thought I countered well.
The referee did his best to control he low blows. You don’t want a fight to end in disqualification. But taking those shots effects everything.
EDDIE RAMIREZ
“Ég er fús. We worked hard and this is another step. We’re going to keep working hard. I have what it takes to be a world champion.
Ryan Karl is a tough fighter. He came to give it all he had. He didn’t want to quit, but we broke him down and got the win.
Karl and I both came to win. Someone’s perfect record had to go. There was no quit in him. I was going to finish the fight in the last round.
My plan was to break him down. I never wanted this fight to go to decision. I did what I had to do.
I’m aiming high. Ég vil berjast við bestu. If I keep working hard everything is going to take care of itself and I’ll get where I want to.
I wanted to make him miss a lot while also being aggressive. We were ready to finish him off, we just wanted to go little by little and get the win.
RYAN KARL
I just wasn’t on kvöld. I couldn’t hit my right hand how I wanted to. I give him all the credit. My timing wasn’t right. He looked great and I looked mediocre.
It’s disappointing. Boxing is my job. I lost a lot in there. I have to get better. All that matters is winning the fight.

Sjónvarpað umfjöllun hefst á 8 p.m. OG/5 p.m. PT and features fast-rising contender Yordenis Ugas against Georgia’s Levan Ghvamichava in a 10-round matchup of hard-hitting welterweights plus Houston’s Ryan Karl taking on Chicago’s Eddie Ramirez in a 10-round battle of unbeaten super lightweights.

Here is what Vasquez Jr. had to say about training, his matchup against Collazo and more:
On his upcoming opponent, Luis Collazo:
This is a very challenging fight but one I believe I can win. Now that Collazo is one hundred percent healthy, I know he’s going to be at his best. We both are trying to get back on top so the fans can expect a great fight.
On his recent training camp:
It’s been a great training camp. We got a lot of good southpaw sparring and I feel sharp going into this fight. All the preparation has been done and now it’s time to fight. I’ll be at my best come fight night.
On what he learned from his first defeat:
It was a tough loss in my last fight with the late sub Felix Diaz. Although we fought another southpaw, our game plan was for Collazo, who is a totally different style. In this game, I must be prepared for any style that comes my way. I know that now and I’ll be fully prepared for anything that Collazo brings.

On what a win will do for his career:
A win against Collazo will get me right back in the mix of things in the welterweight division. With only one loss on my record, I feel I still have a lot to give to this sport. A victory will open up a path to fight for a world title.

TUNICA, MS (Janúar 31, 2017) – Spennandi keppinautur Sammy Vasquez Jr. og fyrrum heimsmeistari Luis Collazo went face-to-face Tuesday ahead of their welterweight showdown that headlines a special three-hour edition of Premier Boxing Champions á FS1 and FOX Deportes Fimmtudagur, Febrúar 2 from Horseshoe Tunica Hotel & Casino in Tunica, Mississippi.

Hér er það sem bardagamenn þurfti að segja þriðjudagur:
SAMMY VASQUEZ JR.
Luis Collazo is a really tough opponent. He’s always game. It doesn’t matter who he fights. I always enjoyed watching him growing up because he’s quick, strong and savvy.
This is a fight I’ve been looking forward to. Collazo has fought everyone and he always gives a great fight. I couldn’t have thought of anybody better to have a great fight on television against. Everyone who knows the two of us, knows we’re going to come to fight.
He’s never really been knocked out, just the mishap in the Thurman fight. Collazo hurt Thurman, and that’s a guy in his prime. Collazo isn’t in his prime, but age is just a number in this sport.
We’re prepared. We know he’s a southpaw just like my last opponent. We were originally supposed to face him before Felix Diaz stepped in. The game plan is for me to dictate how this fight goes. I have to set the pace and control it.
As long as I can control the fight, it’s smooth-sailing for me. I know he’s got a hard head and he’s going to come forward, so I think it’s going to be an exciting fight.
Luis Collazo
Sammy is a tough fighter. He’s been moving up in the ranks and faced some decent opposition. We’re both lefties and I think it’s going to be an explosive fight.
This is another tough fight for me. I’ve been in there with the top guys and everyone knows I’m going to give it my all. I’m grateful to be back in this position. There are great fight fans here in Mississippi and I’m going to give them something to cheer about.
I’m blessed to be able to do what I love to do and I do it with passion and drive. I hope everyone enjoys what happens á fimmtudaginn nótt, because I know I will.
I’ve been in this game for 17 years as a pro. I’ve seen every type of fighter. We’ll find outFimmtudagur night how much I have left. Sometimes fighters can get counted out, but people don’t understand what’s going on behind the scenes. My preparation for this fight was great and we’ll find out Fimmtudagur if it translates to the ring.
YORDENIS UGAS
“Ég hlakka til að þessari baráttu. I hope to give a great performance and continue on my way toward a world title.
I’ve had a perfect training camp and I’m prepared to get a victory. This is my time to make another statement to all of the top fighters in the division. I’m ready for any challenge.
LEVAN GHVAMICHAVA
I’ve worked very hard in training camp to prepare for this fight. I’m excited to be here and have this opportunity to give the fans a great show.
I’m going to give it my all in the ring and make sure I walk out of there with the victory. I know that I have a tough opponent, but I’m confident in my training and my skills.

The right hand was there early and all night long,” said Ugas. “I was able to land it from the beginning. Then I went to the body. Before I left my corner to start the fight, I said a prayer for Jose, and for sure that was my motivation. I felt his spirit throughout the fight.
The taller Perrella attempted to control the fight with his jab and looked to land big left hands from the southpaw stance. Ugas was patient throughout the fight and kept his defense tight, never allowing Perrella to break through.
At the end of the third round Ugas landed another big right hand that pushed Perrella into the ropes and forced him into survival mode until the round ended. Perrella tried to get his attack going in the fourth round but Ugas was patiently waiting to deliver powerful counters with the right hand.
Another punishing right hand in the middle of the round sent Perrella hard to the mat and clearly dazed when he rose to his feet. Ugas sensed his moment and attacked Perrella, eventually stalking him into the corner. A final flurry from Ugas forced referee Rocky Burke to halt the bout 2:20 í umferð.
This shows that I’ve put all my losses behind me,” said Ugas. “It doesn’t matter who I fight next. I’m ready for anyone in the division.
The co-main event saw Ryan “Cowboy” Karl (13-0, 9 Kos) earn a stoppage victory over Jose Quezada (11-1, 6 Kos) after four rounds of action in the super lightweight showdown. The fight was stopped by the ringside doctor after the end of the fourth round.
Karl established his power advantage early on as the two fighters went toe-to-toe but it was Karl who knocked Quezada to the canvas with a stunning right uppercut and a straight right hand that sent his opponent tumbling to the canvas.
Quezada looked to box against Karl and had his best moments in the third round when he began to land his left hook and throw more combinations. Despite taking a few good shots, Karl came out determined in round four and began landing his right hand at will.
The last minute of the round saw the Houston-based fighter landed a series of right hands that eventually began to swell the left eye of Quezada and sent him to the floor for the second time in the fight as the round ended. Quezada was able to get to his feet and return to his corner, but the ringside doctor had seen enough and called a halt to the bout.
The opening televised bout saw Phoenix’s Cesar Alan Valenzuela (13-4-1, 4 Kos) earn a split decision over previously once-beaten Dennis Galarza (13-2, 8 Kos) in their eight round super featherweight attraction.
From the opening bell both men were determined to establish their offense and they both had bright moments in the round. Galarza landed several right hands early but as the fight wore on, Valenzuela got into his offense and was able to keep Galarza going backwards.
Valenzuela also appeared to be the fresher fighter in the later rounds and he ended the bout with a 398-345 advantage in punches thrown and 136-93 in punches landed.
Valenzuela’s strongest round came in the final frame when he stunned Galarza with just over a minute left in the round, forcing his opponent to hold on to survive the eight-rounder. The final judges scores were 77-75 for Galarza and 77-75 twice for Valenzuela.

NICE, CALIF. (September 13, 2016) – Chicago’s Eddie Ramirez (15-0, 10 Kos) scored a seventh round knockout of Kevin Watts (11-1, 4 Kos) in a battle of unbeaten super lightweight prospects that served as the main event of Premier Boxing Champions TOE-til-tá þriðjudögum á FS1 og Boxing Champions on FOX Deportes Tuesday night from Robinson Rancheria Resort and Casino in Nice, California.
Ramirez was determined to be the busier fighter, but it was Watts who scored the first big blow of the night when he caught Ramirez with a right uppercut that dropped his opponent for the first time in his career.
The Chicago-born prospect stepped up the attack after the knockdown and began to dominate the fight with his work rate and body punching. The jab was another effective weapon for Ramirez and it allowed him to navigate the distance and push Watts against the ropes.
Watts was unable to put his punches together and Ramirez became more emboldened in his attack as the fight went on and Watts began to wear down. Ramirez had a 488 að 348 advantage in punches thrown while connecting on 170 punches to Watts’ 130.
The relentless attack eventually paid dividends as Ramirez trapped Watts with a flurry of body punches and eventually put Watts down to the mat. He was unable to beat the count and the fight was waved off at 1:37 in the seventh round.
The co-main event of the night saw super welterweight prospect Marcos “Madman” Hernandez (9-0, 2 Kos) earn a unanimous decision over Detroit’s Antonio Urista (7-2, 2 Kos) in their eight-round bout.
Hernandez controlled the fight with his length advantage and superior accuracy while Urista attempted to outwork his opponent. The fight was full of exchanges from start to finish as both fighters loaded up on power punches throughout the night.
Round three saw Hernandez begin to break through and land big, clean shots on Urista, who was staggered by a right hand midway through the round. Hernandez’s steady attack had an effect on Urista in the form of his mouthpiece falling out three times. Í fimmta umferð, the third instance prompted the referee to deduct a point from Urista.
Sensing the urgency in the fight, Urista pressed forward and initiated an exciting round of back and forth action. Hernandez continued to get the better of the exchanges but was tagged by a hard left hand to the head right before the bell.
Urista enjoyed a 664-507 advantage in punches thrown, but Hernandez was able to land 213 högg til 193 from his opponent. Hernandez was dominant with his right hooks and he mixed in uppercuts throughout the night as he began to time his opponent.
Hernandez’s 42 percent to 29 percent advantage in punches landed proved to be the difference as he took home the decision by scores of 80-71 tvisvar og 79-72.

Hernandez is set for his second consecutive fight on FS1 and in Nice and he will look to build on his impressive victory over previously unbeaten Thomas Hill in July. Here is what Hernandez had to say about the fight, his camp and more:
On fighting in his second televised bout on FS1
To be fighting on FS1 for the second time in my career is a dream come true. I’ve worked extremely hard to get these types of opportunities and I want to take full advantage of the situation. Just like my last fight, you can expect me to come out firing hard shots. I’m here to give the fans a great show.
On his recent training camp
Training camp has been hard as usual. Just like the last camp, we traveled to many different gyms to get the best possible sparring. Everyone was a top level guy. My conditioning is right where I like it. Mikilvægast af öllu, I feel I’m getting better with each training camp.
On his matchup with Antonio Urista
I really don’t know much about him expect that he only has one loss on his record. I’m sure he’s going to be looking to take advantage of this opportunity, so I’m expecting a very tough fight. The fans are in for a big treat.
On fighting at the Robinson Rancheria Resort & Casino…
I’ve only fought there once and it was a great experience. The venue is very intimate and the fans are on top of you so you can feel the energy when you’re in the ring. Because I’m from California, the fans seem to take a liking to me, so I’m excited to be fighting there again.
On fighting out of his hometown of Fresno, Calif…
Right now Fresno has a lot of good fighters coming up. I just want to do my best to put Fresno on the map as far as boxing goes. There’s a lot of talent coming out of Fresno and the fans really support their fighters. I know everyone back home will be tuning in. With a great performance, I’m hoping my hometown fan base will continue to grow.
