Antonio Tarver looking through Steve Cunningham on historic run

Hnub vas Xuv hmo ntuj, Aug. 14 in Atlantic City, PBC on Spike TV

MIAMI (Lub yim hli ntuj 4, 2015) – Five-time world champion AntonioMagic ManTarver(31-6, 22 KOs) will be looking throughnot pastformer two-time IBF championSteveUSSCunningham (28-7, 13 KOs) on Friday hmo ntuj, Aug. 14, in their 12-round heavyweight showdown at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

WBA #9 Tarver vs. IBF #6/WBC #14 Cunningham is the main event on a Premier Boxing Champions series show airing live on Spike TV, the same network Tarver serves as its boxing color commentator.

Tarver is on a mission to become the oldest heavyweight champion of the world in boxing history. The 46-year-old southpaw realizes he has to get past Cunningham in order to get a world title shot against Wladimir Klitschko los sis Deontay Wilder.

I respect Steve Cunningham,” Tarver explained. “I’m not looking past him, I’m looking through him. If I have to go through Wilder to get Klitschko, so be it. I’m getting that world heavyweight title and when I defeat Klitschko it’ll be the biggest story in sports. But I know that I won’t get my title shot unless I get by Cunningham.

The ‘Magic Manis bringing 1000 tricks in his bag but it’s only going to take one to take him out. I’ve been working hard in training camp and he hasn’t been focused.Steve is a solid durable opponent who has proven himself in the heavyweight division, coming off a close eliminator that many thought he won. I have the test of fighting a guy who you can’t make quit, so you have to knock him out because he’s proven his heart and guts. Steve’s also motivated because he knows what beating me can do for his career.

At 46 and a grandfather-to-be next month, Tarver realizes that he may not be the same fighter he was during a nine-fight stretch between 2002-2006, in which he was one of the world’s top pound-for-pound fighters, shocking Roy Jones, ❏ Jr ❏.(see picture to the right) in two of three fights, splitting a pair with Glen Johnson, defeatingMontell Griffin, Eric Harding thiab Reggie Johnson, and losing to Bernard Hopkins. Tarver, however, feels that his aforementioned experiences and overcoming so many struggles will be enough to take him back to the top of the boxing mountain.

I learned the fundamentals of boxing and that’s why I’m still here at 46,Tarver noted. “My whole game is built on deception because, by the looks of it, I’m not supposed to be as fast, as quick and strong, as tough, or hit as hard as I do. So, that makes it hard to prepare for the fighter like me. I am sure Cunningham may have prepared for a physical war but has he prepare for the mental part of our fight? He’ll be fighting in a ring full of mine fields, one wrong step and, Kaboom!”

Tarver and his head trainer, Orlando Cuellar, have been together a full year for what amounts to three training camps considering Tarver’s originally scheduled fight against Jonathan Banks was postponed several months due to Tarver’s broken hand, followed by his impressive seventh-round stoppage of Banks last December in his last fight.

We know each other much better now in terms of how much to push him in camp and what to expect from each other,” Cuellar commented. “He may be 46 but he’s never been beat up. His ring savvy is off the charts and he’s knowledgeable. Antonio’s a sharp puncher and vicious competitor. He does exactly what I ask of him in the gym. I’ve come to realize that he doesn’t need 160-200 rounds of sparring for a fight. He remembers everything from his fights against so many great fighters, storing information in his mind to use in his fight. He outthinks his opponent. I watched him set things up and put it all together. Antonio is a special fighter, super intelligent, a breeze to work with and most capable in the ring. I’m blessed to be working with him.

Cunningham is going to come in and apply pressure, but he’s never fought anybody as elusive and intelligent as Antonio, who can catch or slip, block or counter. He has so many tricks up his sleeve. Antonio is going to fight to his speed. Just when Cunningham thinks he has Antonio where he wants him, it’s going to be too late and Antonio is going to knockout Cunningham. Tarver is a much sharper puncher than people think. Like Antonio says, we’re not looking past Cunningham, we’re looking through him.

ThomasCornflakeLaManna looks to get back in win column this Friday night in rematch against Josh Robertson

Fight to be part of off-tv undercard of ShoBox fight card at Ballys Atlantic City

For Immediate Release
Atlantic City, NJ (Lub yim hli ntuj 4, 2015)No hnub Friday night at Ballys Atlantic City, Middleweight ThomasCornflakeLaManna (16-1, 7 KO's) will be back in action and looking to get back in the win column against a familiar foe when he takes on Josh Robertson in a bout scheduled for 8-rounds.
The bout will be part of the off-tv portion of a ShoBox televised tripleheader that will feature Middleweight Ievgen Khytrov taking on Nick Brinson.
LaManna of nearby Millville, New Jersey is coming off his first professional setback which ironically was televised on ShoBox on March 13 when he was stopped by 6 rounds to undefeated Antoine Douglas.
LaManna, who won a 6-round unanimous decision over Robertson in the same Ballys ring on September 28, 2013 knows that a big effort will get him back in a big fight.
Training has been great. By the time I get in the ring on Friday, I would have completed a 10 week training camp. I started camp in New York and I was supposed to fight on July 25. That show got postponed and I was fortunate enough to land on this show,” said LaManna.
When asked about what he remembers about the first encounter with Robertson, LaManna recalls, “I won every round. That was a six rounder and this is an eight round fight. I want to stop him and make a statement.
If LaManna is able to get that emphatic win, he is hoping to look impressive in front of his hometown fans.
It’s good to be back on an undercard of a ShoBox event. It’s a high profile show in my home area. I will have a lot of support and I am looking forward to putting on a good performance.
During the camp, LaManna is working on the things that he needed to tighten up after the loss to Douglas.
I have been working on keeping my composure and sticking to my gameplan. I feel like I am getting stronger. I am still just 23 years-old and despite my last fight, my best boxing is still ahead of me.
I want to thank Lou DiBella for putting me on the card. As well I would to thank Vincent Ponte of Gulfstream Promotions as well as Rising Star Promotions.

Beibut Shumenov makes history once again in ring

TEAM SHUMENOV: (L-R) Assistant trainer Rodney Crisler, world cruiserweight champion Beibut Shumenov, Chingis Shumenov, head trainer Ismael Salas, cut-man JacobStitchDuran and assistant trainer Jeff Grmoja.

LAS VEGAS (Aug. 3, 2015) – Newly crowned World Boxing Association (WBA) Interim cruiserweight champion Beibut Shumenov (16-2, 10 KOs) recently made history once again, defeating B.J. Flores (31-2-1, 20 KOs) by way of a 12-round unanimous decision as Premier Boxing Champions series headliner, which aired July 25th on NBCSN live from The Palms in Las Vegas.

Shumenov, 31, became the mandatory challenger for WBAregularcruiserweight champion Denis Lebedev (27-1, 20 KOs, 1 NC), of Russia, as well as the first Kazakhstan native to capture a world title in two different weight classes having been the WBA light heavyweight champion from 2010-2014.

Boxing hotbed Kazakhstan has produced five other world champions during the past quarter-century: 1990 WBC super featherweight Aratoly Alexandrov, 2000 WBC heavyweight OlegBig OMaskaev, 2001-2003 – IBF cruiserweight VassilyThe TigerJirov, 2010-2012 WBA super middleweight Dimitri Sartison and reigning WBA Super/WBC Interim middleweight Gennady Golovkin.

In his fist historic fight back in 2010, Shumenov defeated defending WBA light heavyweight champion Gabriel Campillo viaa 12-round decision to establish the record for fewest-fights, 10, to become world champion of a major organization in the 175-pound division.

I am very proud to set another record in boxing,” 2004 Olympian Shumenov said. “I’m honored to be the first fighter from my country to become world champion in two divisions. I’d like to thank my manager, Al Haymon, for giving me this opportunity. Lebedev is the main target and, if I pass that test, I want to fight the best fighters in the cruiserweight division.

Shumenov went through a style transformation, under the direction of famed Cuban head coach Ismael Salas, who worked with the athletic Kazakh to change him from an aggressive, grinding fighter into a more complete, all-around boxer. Shumenov baffled Flores, who expected Shumenov to come to him and exchange punches, which would have given the naturally bigger, stronger Flores an advantage. Instead, Shumenov masterfully boxed his way to victory, using lateral movement, angles and positioning to frustrate Flores into ineffective aggression, resulting in an array of off-balance punches and misses.

After the fight, Shumenov explained the surprising change he went through after training with Salas since January. “I’m still in the learning process. Like my trainer says, there are no limits, and I still haven’t perfected what he’s teaching me. It really comes down to a lot of hard work, repetitions of muscle memory. My footwork for this fight came from my trainer. I was happy to be victorious but I still see myself getting a lot better, overall, as a complete boxer.

(L-R) Shumenov & Salas

Salas also trains World Boxing Council (WBC) World Lightweight Champion Jorge Linares (39-3, 26 KOs), in addition to handling past and present world champions such as Guillermo Rigondeaux, Yuriokis Gamboa, Danny Green, thiab Jesse Vargas.

There is a process for everybody in terms of bio-mechanics,” Salas commented. “There are specialties of training I teach that aren’t used often in boxing, specific exercises for the dynamics of motion. I originally learned to coach in the Cuban system, which is similar to the Soviet system in which Beibut first learned, but I’ve also been all over the world learning different methods of training. It still takes time for a world-class fighter like Beibut, who has been world champion as a professional, and had many amateur matches. Jorge Linares was a two-time world champion before we started working together. Beibut is getting there. He’s still not at his full potential, right now, using only 40-50 percent of his tools.

Shumenov is a lawyer and successful businessman who speaks five languages. Although he’s a two-time world champion, he’s still a student of boxing, and Salas is his highly respected professor.

He’s (Salas) humble but a genius,” Shumenov insists. “He asks and listens to my opinions. We concentrate on fundamentals and he explains everything to me. Our team had a daily routine in camp in which we shared our knowledge after each training session. The four of us (Shumenov, Salas, Grmjoja and Crisler) became one.

And the result was a second world title.

Limited tickets for the event, which start at just $50, remain on sale now at Pechanga.com and the Pechanga Resort & Casino box office. Doors for the event open at 4 p.m. PT local time.

In the evening’s main event, Melvin “The Young Assassin” Guillard (32-14-2, 2 NC) will face Brandon “Cold Roll” Girtz (11-4). The co-headliner will feature lightweight action that pits Saad Awad (18-6) against Patricky “Pitbull” Freire (13-6). Opening the main card, Lorenzo Hood (9-2) will make his Bellator MMA debut against Raphael Butler (9-1-1).

San Diego’s Anderson will look to parlay his impressive technical knockout of Danny Navarro tom Bellator 132 when he steps into the Bellator MMA cage for the second time in 2015. A product of Team Xplode MMA, the man fans describe as “The Barbaric” will be seeking his 12th finish in 14 tries.

Since joining the Bellator MMA fray in 2013, Primus has been on a tear, ripping through all three opponents with first-round finishes. Now, the 30-year-old Portland, Ore., native will face the stiffest test of his young career when he goes up against Anderson. Will he manage to keep his undefeated, first-round finish streak alive?

Known by most mixed martial arts fans as one of top up-and-coming 185-pound fighters on the Bellator MMA roster, Matthews emphatically solidified his contender role in the division with his show-stopping knockout of Kyle Bolt tom Bellator 131 this past November. Known as “The Mercenary,” the Blackline MMA product and Strikeforce veteran will look to continue his rise to the top of the middleweight heap when he returns to action on Aug. 28.

Standing opposite of Matthews will be Sordi, who burst on the Bellator MMA scene with a 58-second submission of former UFC fighter Bubba McDaniel. The 24-year-old Argentinian has not tasted defeat since 2012 and has earned all 13 of his professional victories before reaching the judges’ scorecards.

Undefeated in eight fights, Sloan has entered Bellator MMA impressively, winning his first two tilts. The Oceanside, Calif., native trains out of Excel Jiu-Jitsu and has utilized the discipline to defeat seven out of eight opponents via submission.

Bondole is a highly regarded prospect, fighting out of Kings MMA in Huntington Beach, Calif., whos last outing resulted in a draw against Chris Hererra. Now, he will look to secure a win over Sloan on his own terms, and not let the judges have a say.

The son of respected MMA fighter Antonio McKee, “The Mercenary” will look to continue to pave his own way through the sport. A.J. shined in his first outing, securing a first round rear-naked choke over Marcos Bonilla. He now faces a fellow Angelino in Barnes, who has been tearing up the Gladiator Challenge circuit, going 4-0 with two KO’s and two submissions, all taking place in the first round.

Best known for her viral performance in her professional MMA debut, Macfarlane will now make her first appearance for Bellator MMA when she faces Maria Rios.

GCP Signs Brooklyn’s Former Undisputed Champion Zab ‘SuperJudah to a Co-Promotional Contract

Greg Cohen of Greg Cohen Promotions proudly announces the signing of five-time world champion and former Undisputed World Welterweight Champion Zab “Super” Judah (42-9, 29 KOs) of Brooklyn, New York, to a co-promotional agreement, along with Judah’s Super Judah Promotions.

Judah, 37, will compete in the super lightweight division with an eye toward returning to his elite status in boxing.

His first appearance under the new promotional banner will be in September, on a GCP televised card.

I am overjoyed to be adding a superstar of Zab’s caliber to my promotional roster,” said Greg Cohen. “Zab has been in with every great fighter of this era and beaten many of them. He is a Brooklyn boxing legend and still a force to be reckoned with at 140 lbs.”

Super Judah Promotions is looking forward to working with such a reputable and time-tested promoter in Greg Cohen and the Greg Cohen Promotions team, said Bill Halkias V.P. of Super Judah Promotions. “Zab is physically and mentally stronger than I have ever seen him. He wants to win a sixth world title for his fans. They won’t be disappointed.

The southpaw Judah won the undisputed welterweight championship in February 2005 with a ninth-round stoppage of Cory Spinks. Judah won his first championship, the IBF Light Welterweight Championship in January 1999 with a fourth-round knockout over Wilfredo Negron.

We will feature Zab on our Championship Boxing series and keep him active,” continued Cohen. “He still has the speed and reflexes of a top fighter and after a few comeback appearances, he will be ready for another assault on the current kings of the division.

Judah’s opponent in September will be announced soon.

Two-time world champion, female boxer Amanda Serrano blasts Ronda Rousey’s trainer, and makes challenge

Serrano with the WBO title
Two-time world champion, Amanda Serrano (24-1-1, 18 KO's) from Puerto Rico, and her trainer/ manager, Jordan Maldonado consider it very disrespectful for the boxing community, the comments made by Edmond Tarverdyan, trainer of the UFC World Champion, Ronda Rousey in www.mmafighting.com.
I know she can do it,” Tarverdyan told MMA Fighting, “I know she can win the boxing world title. Ronda spars with boxing world champions that punch way harder than Cyborg,”, Tarverdyan also added that, “Ronda has never lost a round in the gym. A round. With boxing world champions”.
Definitely Rousey’s trainer does not have any knowledge about the sport of boxing. She is a very good fighter in the Octagon, and I really congratulate her for everything she has done. Her opponents cannot box and It’s easy to look great but when facing a high quality boxer with punching power as myself, believe me, things are gonna change. In a boxing ring, the canvas will be your comfort zone”.
About Rousey’s fight last Saturday, where she defeated Bethe Correia in 34 seconds, Serrano said, “As a boxing point of view, she looked like a rookie amateur fighter, throwing very wide punches with no cordination. I heard that Cyborg is not willing to come down to the lightweight division to fight Ronda, but I can go up to 135, and we can settle a boxing match so I can prove her trainer wrong. I once went up to the lightweight division, and traveled to Argentina for a world title fight. At the end, the results was that I became the first ever Puerto Rican female boxer to captured a world title in two weight classes”.
Serrano’s manager and trainer, Jordan Maldonado pointed out thatwe do not challenge other fighting styles. We represent boxing and we want to get some respect. We are available for any sparring they may want or a boxing match, so we can show Edmond Tarverdyan how wrong he is about boxing”.
On August 15, 2014, Serrano traveled to Argentina to face WBO Lightweight World Champion Maria ‘TilyMaderna, who at that time, had three successful title defenses, but could not handle the aggressiveness of the Puerto Rican power puncher, who ended the fight in the sixth round by way of knockout.
With this victory, Serrano became the first Puerto Rican female boxer to win world titles in two divisions (130-135).
Serrano’s first title reign came in September 2011 when she knocked out Kimberly Connor in the first round to become the IBF World Champion at the super featherweight division.

WINTER PARK, FLA. (Lub yim hli ntuj 2, 2015) Juan Carlos Payano (17-0, 8 KOs) defeated Rau’shee Warren (13-1, 4 KOs) by 12-round split decision in the debut ofPBC: The Next Round rau Thaws TV.

Further televised action featured the first round of a four-man super welterweight tournament. In the first bout John Jackson (20-2, 15 KOs) won a 10-round unanimous decision over Dennis Laurente (49-6, 30 KOs).

The second televised bout featured a hard-hitting scrap that saw Jorge Cota Lugo (25-1, 22 KOs) defeat Yudel Jhonson (17-2, 9 KOs) by a 10-round unanimous decision.

Jackson and Cota Lugo will now meet at a later date.

Ntawm no yog li cas cov fighters yuav tsum tau hais Hnub xya following their bouts:

JUAN CARLOS PAYANO

I feel strong. Every now and then he hit me with something that affected me, but I feel good.

All of the cuts on my face are from headbutts.

Warren is one of the best in this division, but there are lots of other good fighters in this division. I’ll fight any of them.

I think the decision was fair.

I don’t think we’ll do a rematch with Warren next, but my manager will decide.

RAU’SHEE WARREN

The one judge had it heavily for me, so I don’t know what was up with the others. I think the point deductions really hurt me. (Payano) said I hit him while he was down and it cost me.

He was strong in the first four or five rounds, but then I figured him out.

I want a rematch. I’ll be back strong.

YUDEL JHONSON

I’ve been boxing a long time. This may be my strongest fight yet though. I’ve never been hit that hard, so I was happy to go the distance.

I was very ready for this fight, which was a good thing. I didn’t get knocked down as much as I could have been.

I want to thank PBC and Al Haymon for this opportunity. This was a big test and I was ready. It was an excellent fight against a great Mexican fighter. I feel like a fight like hmo noqualifies me to face anyone.

I’m ready for anyone they want to put in front of me next. I just need another chance to prove myself.

JORGE COTA LUGO

When I was in the dogfight, I was just thinking about winning so that I can continue to support my family.

My team told me to step it up midway through the fight and I listened to them. I was a little uncomfortable with all the holding and twisting, but we knew his style and were ready for him.

This opportunity on PBC on Bounce TV only motivates me more. Half way through the fight I hurt my (left) hand, but I knew I had to get through it and my corner helped me.

I haven’t seen (John) Jackson fight actually. I was only focused on my fight hmo no. I hear he’s a strong fighter though, and now I can start preparing for him.

JOHN JACKSON

I was trying to listen to the corner’s advice. When I knocked him down in the third round I had been hearing my corner tell me to throw the uppercut. So I caught him on the chin with one and he went down.

Going in to my fights everyone expects the knockout. If it comes it comes, but I really just want the win.

I want to thank God and Al Haymon for being on Bounce TV. This is great exposure. After my loss against (Andy) Lee I want to continue to show people that I’m a more mature, composed fighter.

For my next opponent, I know Yudel (Jhonson) from the amateurs, but I’d also like to face Jorge Cota Lugo.

I’ll take a week or two off now. My brother fights soon and I’ll head straight into camp with him as soon as he’s ready after his fight. It won’t be a long rest.

DENNIS LAURENTE

I trained very hard so that when I got knocked down I would be able to recover easily.

I think it was the right decision.

I don’t know who comes next because I still have to defend my Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) junior middleweight crown.

I’m sorry that I couldn’t win this one for my fans but I’ll be back.
