Undefeated prospect Antonio Tarver, Jr. establishing his own identity in ring
 TAMPA (Mei 10, 2016) – Fighting for his young family, as well as to expand the legacy associated with his last name, the son of 5-time world champion and 1996 U.S. Olympiër Anthony “Magic Man” Tarver – unbeaten junior middleweight prospect Antonio Tarver, Jr. – this past weekend continued establishing his own identity in the ring.After a 9-month absence, the 28-year-old Tarver (4-0, 3 KO) returned to the ring in Lakeland, Florida, stoppen Jose Cortez in de tweede ronde. Tarver displayed his improving skills, especially a punishing body attack, during a thoroughly dominating performance. He broke-down Cortez and closed the show in style.
“It took me one round to get rid of ring rust,” he explained. “We had a game-plan to go to the body, then the head, body and head, but it took me a round to do it. God’s really blessed me and I owe all thanks to Him. My father and coach, Jimmy Williams, have always told me not to look for a knockout but that it’ll come. I’m not a one-punch knockout fighter. It’s all about setting up shots and putting them together. I may not connect with every single body shot I throw, but if I get in three of four each round, it’ll eventually cause damage. I’m focusing on my opponent’s liver and ribs, trying to be a body-snatcher.”
Tarver was an athlete, playing basketball and football, who didn’t start boxing until he was 19. He had a very brief amateur career and fully realizes that he’s consistently going to be fighting more experienced boxers.
“In de ring,” Tarver zei, “I’m still a baby. My opponents may be much more experienced than me, but I do have a lot of experience around me: my father, coach Williams and Darrell Foreman. My father wouldn’t support me as a fighter until I proved to him that I was worthy (sacrificing and training). I’m worthy now and believe I’m coming into my own as I continue to learn.”
“Als een vader,” Tarver Sr., bekend, “I wanted him to know what he was getting into and have the tools to succeed. He’s as tough as nails. When he realizes how strong he really is…..look out. There’s a difference between hitting an opponent with a punch and punching through him like he’s doing now. I just wish he’d get started quicker. He doesn’t get going until he gets hit and then he turns into a beast. A ferociousness comes out from inside that I never had. He’s improving all of the time. He’s putting punches together better and sitting down on his punches.
“Antonio is going to be a fan-friendly fighter. I know I put him under a lot of pressure, but he’s fighting much more experienced guys. I’ve never been worried about him fighting a tough guy. It’s the guys who think in the ring and have amateur pedigree that can be problems for him.”
Understanding that his opponents get pumped to fight him because of his last name, Antonio Jr. rationalizes that, taking advantage of the situation he is in. “It’s very important for my opponents to beat me and the name,” gaf hij toe. “My father set this stage for me and my name is, Antonio Tarver, Jr., so they’re trying to give us both a loss. I’m fighting for my family and to protect the legacy of my last name. I try and take advantage of being my father’s son and accept everything that goes with that. I don’t try to put pressure on myself but, natuurlijk, I want to be the best Antonio Tarver Jr. I can be.
“People are always going to compare me with my father but we fight in different weight classes. Light heavyweights, other than Roy Jones Jr., are slower than junior middleweights, who are much quicker like Floyd Mayweather, Jr. I’m always going to be fighting opponents taller than me, or sometimes the same height, but I’m 5′ 9″ and a lot of my opponents are going to be 6′ 2″ or so.
The father has another important lesson he’s teaching his son. “Antonio became a father for the first time last September and he was slow getting back in the gym,” Antonio Sr. toegevoegd. “He has to learn how to balance fatherhood with his pro boxing career, making sacrifices to become a champion!”

NEF 23 WEIGH-INS TO BE HELD AT RED FACE JACK’S THIS FRIDAY
Hyannis, Massachusetts (Mei 11, 2016) - New England Fights (NEF), Amerika's nummer een regionale strijd promotie, zal zijn volgende evenement te houden, “NEF 23: CAGE THE CAPE” dit Zaterdag, Mei 14, 2016 at the Hyannis Youth & Community Center in Hyannis, Massachusetts. The event will be the first sanctioned mixed-martial-arts (MMA) tonen ooit op Cape Cod gehouden. Eerder vandaag, the promotion announced that it would conduct the event weigh-in this Vrijdag, Mei 13, 2016, bij 5:00 pm EDT at Red Face Jack’s Pub. Red Face Jack’s Pub is located at 585 Main Street in West Yarmouth, Massachusetts.
Weigh-ins are open to the public. All of the fighters competing on Saturday night will be at the weigh-in, Inclusief headliners Brendan “vergrendelen” Battles (0-0) en Mike “De Snor” Hansen. “Ik denk dat veel mensen onderschatten Mike Dallas Jr. Ik denk dat ze hem te vroeg tellen. Vaak wanneer mensen terug van een zware verlies ze harder trainen, ze nemen het serieuzer en wissen van alle fouten die ze in de vorige trainingskampen, dus dat is wat ik verwacht hem te doen. Gelukkig Barry Hunter [trainer Hernandez-Harrison's] kent hem goed als een vechter, dus ik ga al af van wat hij zegt.

Meestal is het allemaal over me, alles is gedacht om mij en iedereen maakt zich zorgen over mij, dus het was goed om een stap terug te nemen en te zien hoe iemand als hij op het hoogste niveau bereidt zich voor op een wereld titel gevecht. gelukkig, Ik liep weg wetende dat ik heb alles goed doen.

Ik ben echt rijpen en het krijgen van die man sterkte. Elk gevecht Ik voel me een stuk sterker.”
Mike “The Silent Assassin” DALLAS JR.:
“Ik voel me erg goed voorafgaand aan deze strijd ... zelfverzekerd en sterk. Ik ben net klaar om er uit te gaan en uit te voeren. Er is meer druk op hem dan ik vechten in zijn woonplaats.
“Ik heb een goede opleiding in gekregen voor deze strijd. De Bay Area heeft veel goede sparring die er nu. Ik had een goede training met Ben Bautista [Dallas Jr trainer] en we zijn te duwen. Ik moest diep te graven in opleiding er doorheen te komen en ik ben klaar om diep te graven in de strijd.
“Ik nam wat tijd om mijn lichaam te laten rusten en te genezen en te laten mijn gedachten bij elkaar te krijgen. Nu voel ik me geweldig. Ik ben klaar om terug te komen en weer op de top van dingen. Ik ga er uit te gaan en doe mijn ding.
“Ik weet dat Dusty is een vrij goede vechter. Ik weet dat hij kan boksen. Ik ben net klaar om er uit te gaan, slim en uitvoeren van de game plan. Ik ben klaar voor mensen om te weten dat ik terug ben en er mentaal. Ik ben klaar om weer in het spel te krijgen en verzorgen van deze mensen in deze grotere gevechten.”
Thomas "KO" Snow:
“Ik weet dat mijn tegenstander [Orlando Del Valle] is een conventionele vechter uit Puerto Rico. Hij is een basic vechter ... een eenvoudige een-twee puncher. Hij is de beste tegenstander die ik heb te maken tot op heden. Beide van ons hebben twee verliezen, dus ik weet dat het een kruispunt strijd voor ons. We gaan naar binnen gaan en doen wat we kwamen doen.
“Ik heb gevochten in D.C. vaak. Het is mijn thuis.
“Het is geweldig, want ik heb gekend Dusty sinds hij zes jaar oud was. We gebruikten om samen te lopen. We hadden het net over dat daar in de hoek. Als u kijken op een van zijn amateur-gevechten, zul je me horen op de achtergrond juichen hem op. Ik heb in zijn leven al een lange tijd en het is geweldig het zien van een jonge man te krijgen zijn kans en maken de bokssport groeien.
“Ik weet dat onze amateur-programma in D.C. is geweldig dus je moet een schreeuw geven aan alle amateurs. D.C. staat op het punt het mekka van het boksen eens te meer. We hebben er zes, zeven of acht kampioenen in het District of Columbia. Het is rijk aan boksen.
“Ik denk dat vechten op BET is een groot goed. Ik vind het geweldig dat boksen is op de publieke zenders nu en mensen niet hoeven te betalen. Voor die mensen die niet kunnen deze dingen veroorloven, Ik denk dat het geweldig voor hen en ik denk dat het de bokssport beter te maken.
“Ik heb veel veranderd door de jaren heen. Ik word verondersteld dood te zijn, opgesloten of in de gevangenis. Het hebben van God in je leven, je perspectief van het leven en alles verandert. Ik ben rustig en comfortabel in mijn situatie. Ik dank God voor de gelegenheid. Ik dank Roc Nation Sports voor de kans en ik dank iedereen die steunt Thomas “KO” Snow. We zijn klaar om het te doen.”
MIKE Balogun:
“Tijdens mijn carrière, toen ik aan het voetballen, Ik gebruikte boksen als een andere vorm van opleiding voor cardio. Na mijn carrière voorbij was, het was natuurlijk voor mij om te blijven trainen en nu zijn we hier. Voetbal is een bedrijf. “Ik ben nog steeds een beetje teleurgesteld over mijn laatste optreden in DC, dus ik ga naar buiten te komen en op een show op Vrijdag, Mei 13.
“Iedereen die je krijgt in de ring met een bedreiging vormt, maar op het zelfde moment, Ik heb er alle vertrouwen in wat ik heb gedaan voor te bereiden. Ik heb sparren jongens met 20 pro gevechten, dus, Ik denk dat ik ben goed.

LAS VEGAS (Mei 10, 2016) – Four young, undefeated cruiserweights from the United States will look to make a name for themselves when they meet in the featured bouts on ShoBox: The New Generation dit Vrijdag, Mei 13, live op SHOW TIME (10 p.m. EN/PT) uit Sam’s Town Live.
The cruiserweight division has traditionally been dominated by Europeans boxers. Vrijdag U.S.-born ShoBox fighters will be seeking to change that perception.

“It’s great that four undefeated cruiserweights are fighting each other. I want us to get the ball back into U.S. territory, since it is a historically European-dominated division. I definitely think the emergence of young cruiserweights like myself is changing that.
“I don’t compare myself to other cruiserweights in the division, I know I’m the best. I’m always looking to win impressively, and I look to put on a great performance for the fansVrijdag nacht.
“Everything has been perfect. Trainingskamp is al geweldig. I started camp in February so I feel strong and comfortable. What’s interesting is that I’m not nervous at all despite this being my first headlining debut. I see it as any other fight where I know what I am coming in to do. I think that lets me know that I am maturing as a fighter and feel a lot more confident in my skills and abilities.
“I’ve been waiting for the right date and this is it. I believe my career moving is great, what I dreamed of. Now it’s time to take the next step.
“Personally I’ve never seen Tapia fight, but I’ve watched videos. He is unbeaten, a solid opponent. Styles make fights and this is a good one for me. I’m looking forward to continuing to step up and give everybody a good performance and get close to a title fight.
“I can’t wait. I’m going in confident. The key is to get the victory, it’s the main thing. Winning is everything.
“I feel blessed to be training out of Floyd’s gym and be able to fight under Mayweather Promotions. He’s someone I look up to so being where I am is a dream coming to reality. I love training at Mayweather Boxing Club. It keeps me focused and hungry.”
KEITH TAPIA
“Fighting Tabiti is a great, real challenge. I like the way he fights. Ik respect voor hem, but I’m going to be bad weather for him. I’m going to take control right away; it will be a Tapia fight, not a Tabiti fight. That’s a fact.
“Tabiti is a talented boxer. His style is a Mayweather style. I love Floyd Mayweather as a fan, but Tabiti’s not Floyd Mayweather. Mij? Ik kom om te vechten, hands up, moving forward as I go. I want to run over you.

MICHAEL HUNTER
“This is a step up as far as competition compared to the past, with him being an undefeated cruiserweight. Hij is een goede, long-ranging southpaw. We are actually around the same age; we were in the amateurs at the same time, but never fought each other.Vrijdag, I aim to win impressively. I don’t want to say I’m going for the knockout, if it happens it happens, but hopefully we can get it.
“Although I’ve fought on TV quite a few times before, this is going to be a good show with Mayweather Promotions. I’m thankful to be fighting on the undercard of my good friend Andrew Tabiti. That’s an honor, to be honest. It’s going to be great that my family and friends outside of Las Vegas will be able to tune in to watch me, so that’s a blessing.
“I wouldn’t say I’m satisfied with the way my career is going. I can’t complain because I have no losses, I just wish it would go at a little faster pace. I’m a two-time Olympian and in the amateurs we’re used to fighting 4-5 times out of the week, so adjusting to fighting once every few months or so feels a little stagnant to me. I really try not to think too far into the future, I try to live in the moment, but I hope to get a title shot relatively soon.
“I went into training camp right after my last fight, so it’s been about eight weeks. There’s always ups and downs in training, but as long as you keep a positive spirit, everything will end up going perfectly well. So it’s been going good I can’t complain. I usually train out of the Mayweather Boxing Club, but there’s been some construction going on so we have moved it to Fight Capitol and a few other places.
“I have been changing my training just to better myself, not necessarily for my opponent or for this fight.
“You have to be a little more focused in the Mayweather Gym. There’s a lot of stuff that doesn’t really happen in a normal gym simply because he is Floyd so it will bring it out of you or it won’t. Only the strongest survive.”

A former Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Champion, Marloes Coenen, is riding a two-fight winning streak and undefeated record under the Bellator MMA fray into her bout with Dufresne. “Rumina” began her career winning eight consecutive fights and 13 of her first 14. The 35-year-old has been competing professionally since 2000 and has been an integral part of the progression of women’s mixed martial arts, challenging some of the best that the sport has to offer. Nu, it’s back to the drawing board for the Dutch submission specialist when she looks to spoil the Bellator MMA debut of Alexis Dufresne.
The 25-year-old Alexis Dufresne began her career with a blazing start, earning victories in her first five scraps, all of which she ended in the first round. Born in Temecula, Calif., “Sneaky Zebra” has strung together an impressive resume, including three straight first round knockout wins dating back to her 2013-14 seasons and most recently two appearances for the UFC. Beat the Streets Announces Man of the Year Award for Kyle Snyder and Lifetime Achievement Award for Ray Lewis among 2016 Gala Award Winners
National and local wrestlers and coaches to be honored at 2016 “United in the Square” Gala Celebration in Times Square on Thursday May 19
Kyle Snyder became the youngest American to win a Senior World title when he captured the 97 kg gold medal at the 2015 World Wrestling Championships in Las Vegas at age 19. Snyder came out of Olympic redshirt and won the 2016 NCAA Wrestling Championships in Madison Square Garden as a sophomore for Ohio State, defeating two-time NCAA champion Nick Gwiazdowski of NC State in a classic heavyweight finals. In april, Snyder defeated 2012 Olympic champion Jake Varner in the finals of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials to earn a spot on the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team at the age of 20. In 2014, Snyder was selected to represent Team USA as the youngest-ever member of the Beat the Streets All-Star team.
Ray Lewis is the former linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens, two-time Super Bowl Champion, and 2000’s Super Bowl MVP. He was an All-American linebacker and a wrestling star at Kathleen High School in Lakeland, Florida. He has received numerous awards and honors throughout his 17-year career with the Ravens, becoming the team’s all-time career leader in tackles. Lewis will be the Honorary Coach of the USA team at United in the Square.
Junior League Girls Wrestler of the Year: Chloe Cabrera, MEVROUW 129, Bronx
Cabrera is a three-year middle-school wrestler who has stood out every season. Her accomplishments include her three times as Junior League Champion and being a member of the National Junior Honor Society for the past two years. She attends clinics at Beat the Streets and travels in the spring with Head Girls Coach Jacque Davis to out-of-state tournaments. As one of her supporters puts it, “she is always trying to better herself as a wrestler and has a bright future.”
Junior League Boys Wrestler of the Year: Jayden Cardenas, MEVROUW 582, Brooklyn
Cardenas is from MS 582 Upper Ten Eyck and has been wrestling for five years. He was the NYC City Champion and USA Wrestling Kids State Champion this year. Cardenas credits his family, coach, and supporters with giving him the drive to stay committed to the sport. He aspires to compete on his high school team and eventually wrestle in the Olympics, winning many more gold medals.
Female Student-Athlete of the Year: Dennielle Phillip, Wingate Educational Campus, Brooklyn
Phillip has been wrestling for almost three years and already made quite an impact. She placed first at the Mohawk Valley tournament and also won the coveted PSAL Yankee Award. Phillip says that wrestling has opened many doors for her and helped her to become a more confident person. She plans to continue wrestling in college and pursue her studies in criminal justice.
Male Student-Athlete of the Year: Evan McFarland, Tottenville High School, Staten Island
McFarland is an Eagle Scout and captain of his wrestling team at Tottenville High School. He is a member of the National Honors Society and involved in numerous volunteering activities, including Habitat for Humanity and the March of Dimes walk. “‘Resilient’ might be the best word to describe Evan,” said his Coach, John Cichon. “Leadership, karakter, toewijding, and time management are some of Evan’s best qualities that he shares unknowingly with everyone he comes in contact with.” He hopes to become an engineer to best make a positive change in the world.
GRIT Award: Rachel Koltsov, The Bronx High School of Science
Koltsov is the captain of the Bronx Science Blended and female wrestling team and has been a member of the team for four years – dating back to when it was an all-boys team. She was instrumental in the team’s victory at the PSAL Blended Wrestling Championship. From her three years wrestling, she finds that the sport has helped teach her a great deal of discipline and responsibility. Koltsov is known for being a hard worker and having an outstanding, personable character. She plans to continue wrestling in college while pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering.
LADY LIBERTY Award: Aileen Gonzalez, Brooklyn Technical High School
As a NYC high school boys coach said of this Brooklyn Tech veteran, “I’m glad my boys do not have to wrestle her next year.” Gonzalez won the Girls City Championship and placed fourth in Boys City Championship. Gonzalez likes to be pushed to the limit and aspires – after winning the team city championships – to attend and graduate college. The Lady Liberty Award is specifically given to a senior NYC female wrestler who has stood as a beacon of opportunity and promise, representing all that is strong and proud about the city’s women’s wrestling culture.
ATLAS Award and Become Your Own Dream Scholarship: Leonard Merkin, Poly Prep Country Day School, Brooklyn
Merkin has made his mark at Poly Prep Country Day School by becoming a four-time NYS Private School Champion. The Atlas Award is given to a senior NYC wrestler who has picked up wrestling on his back and carried it into new territory, set new standards, and advanced the legacy of Beat the Streets. He has received All-American honors and will soon be wrestling for Princeton. Merkin is also the winner of the Become Your Own Dream Scholarship, which is given annually to a New York City student-athlete who has overcome obstacles, felt hardship, and plans to continue wrestling in college.
Junior League Coach of the Year: Michael Wurmbrand, MEVROUW 582, Brooklyn
Wurmbrand is the head coach of MS 582 Upper Ten Eyck and has been involved in the sport for ten years. He’s committed to wrestling because it shows clear transformations in students’ behavior, attitude, and leadership with their teammates and in the classroom. Wurmbrand has done a good job maintaining a sizable team at a small school and looks forward to future changes now that he’s able to start training younger student-athletes in elementary school.
High School Assistant Coach of the Year: Anthony Mirra, Tottenville High School, Staten Island
Mirra has been actively involved in Tottenville’s wrestling program since he was a student-athlete himself. He admits the sport for helping to make kids tougher mentally, emotionally and physically. As the lightweight coach, Mirra has helped to produce at least one Mayor’s Cup champion and at least one city champion every year. This past season, he saw six individuals crowned at the city championships and represent Tottenville at the state tournament in Albany, which has never been done by a large school’s team before. As one supporter said of Mirra, “his dedication does not end when practice ends…he is the coach that wrestlers confide in when they are struggling.”
Girls High School Coach of the Year: Theodore Cook, Harry S. Truman High School, Bronx
A veteran of wrestling with over twenty years of experience, Cook has inspired a number of students with his coaching abilities. He’s widely respected for pushing his girls on the team that he started out of their comfort zones and daring them to try their hardest. “He is not afraid to go above and beyond to make sure his team reaches their full potential,” said one student. Another writes: “I can honestly said Coach Cook is probably the most trustworthy and reliable person I know.” Several of his supporters praise him as a father figure who helps lift everyone’s spirits and inspires the girls with life lessons.
Boys High School Coach of the Year: Peter Cardone, William Cullen Bryant High School, Queens
Coach Cardone has made the most of having a dedicated wrestling room at WC Bryant High School and turned a program on the brink into city champions. Cardone’s leadership, with the help of coaches Joe Goetz and Joseph Weinstein, grew his team from fifteen wrestlers to fifty-five. Cardone has overseen numerous accomplishments during his time with the school, including the NYC Freshman and Sophomore Title and becoming undefeated Region 4 Division Champions. “He has changed the lives of many wrestlers in the school by being with them through both good and hard times as a friend and a coach.”
Volunteer of the Year: David Prado
Prado has been involved in wrestling since he was in elementary school and attended Arizona State on an athletic scholarship. He is committed to the sport because it has given him so much success and opportunity throughout his life that he seeks to “pay it forward” to other kids whenever possible. He shows tireless dedication to the cause of Beat the Streets, volunteering at practices several days a week.
The Beat the Streets gala is an annual fundraiser that raises money to support New York City student-athletes, having previously been hosted in such iconic locations as Times Square and Grand Central Terminal. The gala helps provide wrestling equipment and opportunities to 3,000 kids across the five boroughs every year. This year’s celebration, “United in the Square,” will see some of America’s top wrestlers, including Jordan Burroughs and Adeline Gray, going up against world-class competition from Iran, Canada, and South Korea. The gala begins at 3:45 PM op Donderdag, Mei 19 with exhibition matches featuring young wrestlers from NYC before the world class wrestling matches begin at 6:00 PM. Tickets for seating in Times Square and attendance at the post-match reception are available on the Beat the Streets website. The event will be streaming live on FloWrestling.
