NEW CHAMPIONS CROWNED AT NEF 22 A Lewiston

Lewiston, Maine (Aprile 23, 2016) - Combattimenti New England (NEF), Numero uno di promozione lotta regionale dell'America, held its most recent event, “NEF 22: TUTTE LE STRADE PORTANO QUI,” Saturday night at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée in Lewiston, Maine. Più di 3,000 fight fans were on hand for the event, making it one of the largest crowds ever to witness an NEF event.

 

Sulla parte di boxe della carta, Brandon “The Cannon” Bacca (11-1-1) fought to a majority draw in a six-round contest with James Lester (10-9-1). Many of Berry’s supporters in attendance felt that he won the fight, but two of the judges had it even on the scorecards.

 

The headliner of the amateur MMA card saw Caleb Sala (7-3) captured the vacant amateur featherweight title with a second-round submission of Erik Nelson (2-3). On the professional side of the MMA card, Devin Powell (6-1) took home the lightweight championship by defeating Jesse Erickson (6-5) in the first round via technical knockout.

Lewiston, Maine (Agosto 14, 2015) - Combattimenti New England (NEF), Numero uno di promozione lotta regionale dell'America, terrà la sua XIX-arti marziali miste (MMA) evento, “NEF XIX: RITORNO A CASA,” il Sabato, Settembre 12, 2015 al Androscoggin Bank Colisée a Lewiston, Maine. L'evento è giustamente intitolato “Homecoming” as it will feature the returns of several athletes who have either been recently inactive or competing outside the NEF umbrella. One such return will feature Darrius Heyliger (5-2) da Ithaca, New York. Maine and the NEF cage became a home-away-from-home for Heyliger and several of his Bombsquad teammates during the early days of the promotion. Heyliger competed regularly for NEF in 2012 and early 2013. Recentemente, headliners Bruce “Pretty Boy” Boyington (10-8), NEF MMA professionale campione leggero, e Giovanni “First Class” Raggio(2-7) uniti NEF co-proprietario e matchmaker Matt Peterson su una speciale “Testa a testa” edition of the NEF Podcast. Boyington and Raio discussed the upcoming rematch and the controversy surrounding their first meeting in February 2014, tra gli altri argomenti.

 

The interview quickly turned to the top of the first fight. Raio appeared to apply a rear-naked choke to Boyington on the mat late in the first round. Boyington began waving his hand in the air and referee Jimmy Bickford quickly stepped in to stop the fight. NEW ENGLAND FIGHTS ANNOUNCES FULL NEF XVIII FIGHT CARD

In a highly-anticipated rematch, NEF MMA professionale campione leggero Bruce “Pretty Boy” Boyington (10-8) takes on rivalGiovanni “First Class” Raggio (2-7) in a non-title catchweight contest. Raio scored a victory over Boyington by rear-naked choke in their initial meeting in February 2014. That win, tuttavia, was marred in controversy as Boyington contends the referee mistook his wave to his fans in the crowd as a sign of submission. Senza riguardo, Boyington and Raio will look to settle the score on Giugno 13 in Lewiston.

 

NEF homegrown talent, e 2014 “Fighter of the Year,” Crowsneck Boutin (0-0) will debut in the professional ranks against “The Dog Junkyard” Ryan Cowette (2-2) in un incontro medi. In other professional bouts: Jesse “The Viking” Erickson (4-4) looks to follow up his commanding performance last month at “NEF XVII” with another victory when he takes on Zenon Herrera(0-0); “Infrangibile 2.0” Derek Shorey (2-1) will also try to make it two-in-a-row when he meets Canada’s Jeremy DiChiara (1-0) in a bantamweight battle; e Elias “Danger Mouse” Leland (2-1) hopes to rebound from a loss last month when he fights Chad “Mitragliatrice” Kelly (3-2) in what many are predicting to steal the show on the professional side of the card.

 

“NEF XVIII” will mark the first time NEF has crowned a set of amateur champions. The amateur card will feature five championship title bouts. Among those bouts will be a heavyweight title fight between the popular Manganello “Bigfoot” Leahy (2-1) eRyan Glover (1-0). Glover won a 2011 state championship wrestling for Mountain Valley High School in Rumford, Maine.

 

In another amateur title fight, Ricky Dexter (3-0) piazze off contro Josh Harvey (3-1) for the lightweight championship. Dexter will represent Team Irish while Harvey will represent Irish’s Bangor-area rival Young’s MMA.

 

A women’s fight will also be featured on the amateur card withWalker (0-1) di fronte Kendra Streeter (0-0). Walker thrilled the Lewiston crowd of more than 2,000 a “NEF XVII” last month with her “Fight of the Night” performance against Randi Knowles (1-0).

Proprio oggi, the promotion announced the addition of a professional lightweight bout to the fight card. Jesse “The Viking” Erickson (4-4) è previsto un incontro Zenon Herrera (0-0) in what will be Herrera’s professional debut.

 

Erickson is a mainstay of the NEF promotion. The native of Auburn, Maine made his amateur debut at NEF I in February 2012. All fourteen of his bouts have been hosted in the NEF cage except one which was part of an NEF co-promotion with Bellator.

 

Currently a coach at Central Maine Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (CMBJJ) – a New England United (NEW) affiliato – Erickson challenged unsuccessfully twice last fall for the NEF MMA Lightweight Title, dropping back-to-back losses to Bruce Boyington (10-8). Lo scorso mese, Erickson returned to the cage against Florida’s Mark DeFord (0-4). The Viking came out aggressive, not letting up with a barrage of lefts, rights and knees. It was a departure from Erickson’s trusted ground game, but it took less than two minutes for him to knock DeFord out cold. If Erickson was looking to make a statement, then that statement was received loud and clear by the raucous crowd of over 2,000.

 

“After back to back losses, I’ve really focused in on some of my weak points,” said Erickson. “Nella mia ultima battaglia, I felt much more confident and relaxed, and I think it showed in my performance. I will continue to get better and show everyone the fighter I’ve always known I could be. I’ll never fight safe, try to eke out a decision, or have a boring fight. Zenon Herrera, an independent fighter based out of Skowhegan, Maine, began his MMA amateur career in the fall of 2012. Having fought predominantly in Florida previously, he made his NEF debut last month at “NEF XVII” in a losing effort to a very tough Ricky Dexter (3-0). Herrera is a military veteran, having served four years in the United States Army and five years in the United States Marine Corps. He looks forward to making the transition from the amateur to professional ranks and the new challenges it will bring.

 

“I’m very much looking forward to this chance of taking myself to the next level of MMA,” Detto Herrera. “Jesse Erickson is a tough dude and that will make this match all the better. I’m also looking forward to representing the NEF, Macho Fighter, Combatives Gear, and the USMC with all of the pride and honor that they deserve with everything I do in MMA from this point forward.”

Proprio oggi, the promotion announced that the first NEF MMA Amateur Lightweight Champion will be crowned that evening when undefeated Ricky Dexter (3-0), representing Marcus Davis’ Squadra irlandese, assumerà Josh Harvey (3-1) of cross-town rival Young’s MMA. The bout will be contested at the lightweight limit of 155-pounds.

 

Dexter and Harvey are regarded as two of the top prospects currently on the NEF MMA roster. Both athletes are undefeated in the promotion’s cage. Su Giugno 13, they will carry on a rivalry that has raged in NEF between the Young’s MMA and Team Irish gyms for several years.

 

“Both of these young athletes are a testament to their respective gyms, as well as to how far the sport has come in Maine,” detto NEF co-proprietario e matchmaker Matt Peterson. “They both came along after NEF was established in the state, and we have seen both of them grow over the past year. We in the NEF front office unanimously believe that Josh and Ricky have a bright future ahead of them in MMA and look forward to this highly competitive bout set to be contested in Lewiston on Giugno 13th."

 

Dexter, currently the top-nine-ranked amateur lightweight in New England, is coming off a first-round submission victory over Zenon Herrera (3-6) last Saturday at “NEF XVII.” Dexter has taken the promotion’s lightweight division by storm since debuting last November. He has stopped all three of his opponents in the first round to earn his shot at becoming the first NEF MMA Amateur Lightweight Champion.

 

“I’m honored to be fighting for the NEF Lightweight Amateur Title,” stated Dexter. “To me there’s a lot more on the line than just a belt. Su 13 Giugno you better believe I’m bringing it.”

 

When fans last saw Josh Harvey in the NEF cage, he had his arm raised in victory after mauling Caleb Hall (5-2) in the amateur opener of “NEF XVI” lo scorso febbraio. It took Harvey a mere 36-seconds to run through Hall, himself a two-time state wrestling champion for Dirigo High School in Dixfield, Maine. Many insiders believe this will be one of Harvey’s final amateur fights before turning professional.

 

“Two top fighters from two top schools, this is a match to be excited about,” stated Harvey when reached for comment. “I have all the respect in the world for Ricky, but there is no where this fight goes that I don’t win.”
