Portland, Maine (April 28, 2019) - New England Fights (NEF) keerde zaterdagavond terug naar Aura in Portland met zijn nieuwste mixed-martial-arts-evenement, “NEF 38: STORMBORN.”  Het evenement was een eerbetoon aan de HBO-serieSpel der Tronen compleet met ringmeisjes verkleed als de “Moeder van Draken” Daenerys Targaryen en Sansa Stark, evenals een cellospeler die het evenement opent met muziek uit de soundtrack van de hitshow. Een capaciteit van meer dan 1100 was aanwezig bij de actie.

In het main event, Ras Hylton (4-2) Charles Penn verslagen (0-1) in een zwaargewichtwedstrijd. De arts op de eerste rang stopte het gevecht in de eerste ronde toen een snee in Penns voorhoofd niet kon worden gedicht. Hylton landde met een perfect geplaatste, rechte rechterhand die de snee op Penns hoofd opende en het bloed in een gruwelijke stroom van karmozijnrood naar de mat liet stromen..

HORNSTRA AND HERRERA SPOILIN’ FOR A FIGHT AT NEF 38

Portland, Maine (Februari 27, 2019) – New England Fights (NEF) zal haar volgende mixed-martial-arts presenteren (MMA) evenement, “NEF 38: STORMBORN,” on April 27, 2019 bij Aura in Portland. Eerder vandaag, the fight promotion announced the addition of a professional lightweight bout to the card. Keegan “The Flu” Hornstra zal op zich te nemen Zenon “K-Bar” Herrera bij een gevecht gewicht van 155-pond.

Hornstra, who fought on the first three NEF cards in 2012, has not competed in the promotion’s cage in nearly seven years. A veteran of more than 20 MMA bouts over the course of his amateur and professional careers, Hornstra is 3-3 over the course of his last six with all three wins being finishes. He last competed on a card in Massachusetts in November 2016. Hornstra currently represents Evolution Athletix based in Saco, Maine.

“I’m excited to be back in the NEF cage,” said Hornstra, “it’s been about seven years since my last outing in Maine. I’m fighting one of the NEF regulars in Zenon, the guy is super tough and I don’t think he’s ever said no to anyone. He’s coming off a dominant win and has found areas of success against some of NEF’s bigger names. I’m going to get in and put him out quickly and move on to the next.”

After several attempts in the NEF cage, Zenon Herrera finally picked up his first win as a professional at “NEF 32” last year with a unanimous decision victory over Nate Charles. He returned to the cage later in the year in a losing effort to Ernesto Ornelas. Herrera will look to bounce back from that loss on April 27 against Hornstra. He is a member of Team Smog.

“Everything I’ve seen thus far leads me to believe that this is going to be a great and tough match,” said Herrera. “I’ve had that moment of the glory that comes with getting my hand raised in victory and will strive to get it back. As for Keegan, he’s one of those guys who brings his best every time he comes out, and I know this match will be no different. I guess all I can really say is don’t look away once it starts, I have a feeling this one’s gonna end with a bang.”

BOYINGTON TRIUMPHANT IN RETURN, ERICKSON SETTLES A SCORE AT NEF 32

Lewiston, Maine (Februari 4, 2018) – Two years of traveling the world in pursuit of mixed martial arts glory had not even a shred of negative impact on Bruce “Pretty Boy” Boyington’s mystique in the New England Fights cage.

 

 

 

 

Battered, bloodied Taylor Trahan somehow made it to the end of the second round at Androscoggin Bank Colisee, but a relentless Boyington punctuated a dominant performance with a rear naked choke at 1:08 of the third in the 150-pound main event at “NEF 32: Super Zaterdag."

 

 

 

 

Boyington (15-11) had fought in such diverse locales as New York City and Moscow since his most recent NEF appearance. He extended his winning streak in the promotion to four fights at the expense of Trahan (7-9).

 

 

 

 

Four other professional bouts and 10 amateur affairs highlighted the busy evening.

 

 

 

C.J. Ewer’s bid to become the first simultaneous NEF champion in two different divisions fell short against Kemran Lachinov.

 

 

 

 

Lachinov (6-2), a Bellator veteran based out of Ludlow, Massachusetts, captured the vacant welterweight crown with a tapout to a kneebar at 3:01 van de eerste ronde.

 

 

 

Ewer was undefeated in three previous pro fights, including a submission victory over Mike Hansen for the middleweight strap six months ago.

 

 

 

 

Hansen also absorbed a choke-out loss on this card. Coming off a week of controversy about their agreed-upon catch weight, Jesse “The Viking” Erickson showed that his apparent size disadvantage was no issue.

 

 

 

 

After dominating the early exchanges, Erickson (10-7) applied a guillotine. With Hansen (5-9) appearing unresponsive, the referee stepped in and stopped the contest at 2:41 van de openingsronde.

 

 

 

 

Aaron Lacey rebounded from the first loss of his career, thoroughly dominating veteran Josh Parker in a 145-pound tangle. Lacey (5-1) controlled the lone round of the bout, dropping Parker (6-10) with a knee to the head. Persistence paid off for independent mainstay Zenon Herrera, who picked up his first professional victory in his seventh try. Both Herrera and opponent Nate Charles have an extensive boxing background, but it was Herrera’s domination on the ground that paved the path to an unanimous decision.

 

 

 

 

In the headline amateur event, Ryan Burgess scored a narrow victory over Nate Boucher in a grueling, ground-and-pound flyweight fracas.

 

 

 

 

The bout between former Mountain Valley High School wrestling teammates was billed as a grudge match, fueled by a war of words on social media. Not surprisingly it ended in a lengthy embrace after the bell, with both men lying spent in the center of the cage.

 

 

 

 

There was little to choose between the Rumford rivals. Burger (3-2) pushed the attack in rounds two and three and may have gained the final 29-28 edge on two scorecards with a few well-placed knees to the midsection. Boucher (2-2) swept all three rounds in the other judge’s estimation.

 

 

 

 

Met de overwinning, Burgess snapped a two-fight losing skid and earned a June title fight against Justin Witham. Burgess initially won the title back in 2015.

 

 

 

 

Kwam Arnold (2-0) left an indelible impression on both the crowd and opponent Kyle Kenney in his first-round victory. After patiently finding a seam, Arnold slammed Kenney to the canvas early in the bout and gained the TKO with a barrage of strikes at the two-minute mark.

 

 

 

 

Former amateur light heavyweight champion Ryan Glover (4-2) made a triumphant return in his first appearance since losing the belt exactly one year ago. Glover ended a slugfest with newcomer Joe Berube by verbal submission to strikes in the opening seconds of the third round.

 

 

 

 

Mohammad Al-Kinani ran his amateur record to 3-0 with a first-round TKO of Isaac Therrien. It was Al-Kinani’s stand-up acumen against Therrien’s wrestling background, and Therrien gained the early advantage with three takedowns. He was unable to keep the action on the deck, echter, and Al-Kinani’s fistic prowess proved too tough to overcome.

Stacy Lupo picked up his first win in the cage over David Hart. Lupo used knees and kicks to gain the advantage before gaining the TKO via strikes at 1:10 of the opening round of the 155-pound scrap.

 

 

 

 

In a wildly entertaining women’s bout to christen the card, B.J. Garceau made a successful amateur debut with a split decision over Sarah Ziehm. All three judges offered a 29-28 verdict, but a strong start and authoritative finish gave Garceau the edge. Garceau dedicated her debut to awareness of diabetes, a disease she battles outside the cage.

 

 

 

 

 

Two other women’s bouts went the distance. Catie Denning won her debut by unanimous decision over Chelsea Elizabeth, while Amanda Gallo made her trip from Florida pay off with a clean sweep of the cards against 2017 NEF rookie of the year Jayda Bailey.

Lewiston, Maine (Januari 19, 2018) – The night before the National Football League (NFL) delivers its 2017-2018 season finale, New England Fights (NEF) will return to the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston for the first time in eight months as the fight promotion presents “NEF 32: Super Zaterdag.” And while New England football fans will have to wait until this Sunday’s AFC championship game to find out whether their beloved Patriots will play in the Super Bowl, area mixed-martial-arts fans learned today which of their favorites will compete at “NEF 32” as promotion executives released the full fight card for the February 3rd evenement.

NEW CHAMPIONS CROWNED, MAIN EVENT THRILLS AS NEF 31 SELLS OUT AURA FOR PORTLAND DEBUT

In het main event van de avond, hometown favorite Paul Gorman (11-9) took on James Blair (5-2) in a 130-pound catchweight contest. Two milestones were set early in the night as Jayda Bailey (1-0) became the youngest fighter to ever emerge victorious in the NEF cage, while Garry Carr (1-0) took the honor of the oldest fighter to ever win in the NEF cage. Bailey turned 18 just eight days prior to the event. Carr is 56 years young.

In addition to an evening of fights, fans were able to meet special guest Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza (24-5). Souza is currently the number-four ranked middleweight in the UFC.

NEF ANNOUNCES MONUMENTAL FIGHT CARD FOR PORTLAND DEBUT

Portland, Maine (Oktober 6, 2017) - New England Fights (NEF) will make its long-awaited debut in Portland on Vrijdag, November 3, 2017 at Aura with “NEF 31: The Old Port.” Eerder vandaag, the fight promotion announced the full fight card for the event featuring a full slate of professional and amateur mixed-martial-arts bouts.

Maine fan-favorite Paul Gorman (10-9) staat gepland om over te nemen James “The Flyin’ Hawaiian” Blair (5-1) in the main event of the evening. Probin has trained and competed in Muay Thai in Thailand. Parker is the founder of Ruthless MMA & Boxing of Waterville, Maine.

John “Eerste Klas” Straal (2-8) will come out of retirement to face Zenon “K-Bar” Herrera (0-5). Raio last fought in the summer of 2015. He is the head coach of First Class MMA based in Brunswick, Maine. Herrera, a veteran of both the United States Army and Marine Corps, is looking for his first win since joining the professional ranks two years ago.

The amateur side of the card will feature a total of three title fights. NEF Amateur Heavyweight Champion Nick “The Guardian” Gulliver (4-0) will defend his strap against WWE signeeTerrance Jean-Jacques (2-0), terwijl Nate Boucher (2-0) en Justin Witham (3-4) square off for the vacant flyweight title. VETERAN FIGHTERS RETURN TO THE NEF CAGE ON NOVEMBER 3RD IN PORTLAND

Voor onmiddellijke publicatie: Portland, Maine (Augustus 25, 2017) -nieuwe Engeland Fights (NEF) will make its long-awaited debut in Portland onVrijdag, November 3, 2017 at Aura with “NEF 31: The Old Port.” Eerder vandaag, the fight promotion announced the addition of a professional mixed-martial-arts bout to the card. John “Eerste Klas” Straal (2-8) ontmoet Zenon “K-Bar” Herrera (0-5) at a catchweight of 150-pounds.

For John Raio, the bout will mark his return to the cage after more than two years. Raio retired following his rematch with Bruce Boyington (13-11) in juni 2015. He has decided to make one more run at competing. Competition has been in Raio’s blood since his youth. He won a Maine state championship wrestling for Gardiner Area High School in 1995, and he went on to wrestle for Plymouth State University and the University of Southern Maine. While working for the United States Postal Service, Raio began competing in MMA in 2012. Since his retirement, Raio has concentrated on training fighters at his gym First Class MMA in Brunswick, Maine. He has led several to championship gold in the NEF cage while working full-time at his current position with Bath Iron Works (BIW).

“I’m excited to get back into the cage,” Said Ray. “Two years is a long time after fighting 14 tijden in drie jaar. I’ve learned a lot about the sport in that time. Our team’s success has motivated me a lot. We have amazing fighters and instructors at our gym. The opportunity to fight in Portland, where I delivered mail for eight years, was too hard to pass up.”

Zenon Herrera last competed in the NEF cage in August 2016. He has split his professional career between boxing and MMA. The dynamic card will feature professional boxing bouts, as well as both professional and amateur mixed-martial-arts (MMA) prijsvragen.

 

On the boxing portion of the card, Brandon Montella (4-0) ontmoet Tollison Lewis (2-1) in een vier-ronde licht-zwaargewicht wedstrijd, while longtime Maine middleweight John “Rumble” Webster (8-7-1) returns on the eve of his 48th birthday to battle Zenon “K-Bar” Herrera (0-2). Lewiston, Maine (Juni 18, 2016) - New England Fights (NEF) held the fight promotion’s latest event, “NEF 24: PROMISED LAND” op zaterdag nacht in de Androscoggin Bank Colisée in Lewiston, Maine. The event featured a full slate of professional boxing, amateur mixed-martial-arts (MMA) and professional MMA bouts. Bijna 2,000 packed the hallowed halls where Muhammad Ali once defended the heavyweight championship of the world against Sonny Liston. A special video tribute was presented honoring Ali prior to the beginning of the event.

 

For the second time since April, Brandon Berry (11-2-1) en James Lester(11-9-1) ging de afstand. Deze keer, unlike the last bout which was scored a draw, there was a winner. Lester is travelling back to his hometown of Detroit, Michigan the new Northeast Junior Welterweight Boxing Champion after winning a unanimous decision.

 

Alex Walker (1-1) en Nicole Burgess (0-1) kept alive the tradition of women’s fights stealing the show at NEF events. The two athletes battled back and forth in what can only be described as a “thriller” before a deafening crowd. Walker picked up the first win of her MMA career via an armbar submission in the third round.

HE BUZZSAW ARRIVES IN NEF TO CUT THE COMPETITION DOWN

Lewiston, Maine (Juni 1, 2016) – Just one day removed from the announcement that Russell Lamour, Jr. (13-2, 6 KO) would make his debut on a New England Fights (NEF) kaart, the fight promotion announced that Lamour’s teammate Casey “The Buzzsaw” Kramlich (4-0-1, 2 KO) would also be featured on the “NEF 24: PROMISED LAND” professional boxing event. Op Juni 18, 2016 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée, Kramlich will face Zenon “K-Bar” Herrera (0-1) in a four-round super welterweight contest.

 

Along with Lamour, Kramlich trains at the Portland Boxing Club in Portland, Maine. Kramlich, tot op heden, has yet to taste defeat in the boxing ring as a professional. Earlier this spring, Kramlich handed Boston’s Jason Kelly (5-1) the first loss of his professional career on a fight card in Salem, New Hampshire. He dominated the first two rounds of the fight before the previously-undefeated Kelly was unable to answer the bell to open round three.

 

Laatste val, Kramlich fought to a draw against Antonio Chaves Fernandez (6-23-2) on a card in Portland, Maine. It is the only mark outside of the win column on Kramlich’s record. Op Juni 18, Kramlich plans to add another notch to that win column at the expense of Zenon Herrera.

 

“I’m very excited to be fighting on an NEF card,” said Kramlich. “Looking forward to putting on a great show for the fans. I’ve been training hard, I’m hungry and I’m looking to come out on top victorious and stay undefeated.”

 

Zenon Herrera is one of only a small handful of athletes to have competed in both the NEF MMA cage and the boxing ring. Herrera made his boxing debut last fall in a losing effort to Tollison Lewis (2-1). Op Juni 18, Herrera will be looking for his first win in NEF.
