WORCESTER, Massa. (Julho 31, 2018) – A dozen years after he captured his third world title in two different weight classes, seven since his last fight, “O Gallo” Jose Rivera returns to the ring August 17 a manchete “Regresso a casa”, apresentado pelo Promoções Granite Chin (GCP) in association with Rivera Promotions Entertainment (RPE), no paládio em Worcester, Massachusetts.

The 45-year-old Rivera (41-6-1, 24 KOs) has already lost more than 30 libras, now within four pounds of his contracted weight, since he started training earlier this year. He will headline against RubenModern Day WarriorGalvan (27-26-4, 10 KOs) no evento principal oito-redonda.

Em 1997, Rivera captured the International Boxing Organization (IBO) World welterweight title, paragem Gilberto Flores na segunda rodada. Six years later, he traveled to Germany to take on undefeated, cidade natal favorito Michel Trabant (38-0) for the vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) World Welterweight Championship, in which Rivera won a 12-round decision and the belt.

In front of nearly 10,000 hometown fans in Worcester, Rivera capped his boxing career by winning a 12-round unanimous decision in 2006 over defending champion Alejandro Garcia(25-1) for the WBA World super welterweight title.

The idea to return to the ring started with my son. A.J., and I talking about chasing history,” Rivera explicou. “We are not able to put that together right now (A.J. was born with Spina Bifida and he was unable to secure medical clearance in time for the Aug. 17th show.), but because of my hard work these last six months, I felt that it was only fitting to continue with my fight.

Granite Chin Promotions has been very instrumental to make sure that this show is put together in the most professional manner possible. I won’t think our promotional company (Jos and A.J. own and operate RPE Promotions Entertainment) would have been able to pull this off. All the negotiations had to be done and me training the only way I know how, at a championship level, would have been too much for us to handle.

Promoções granito Chin’ co-promoter Chuck Shearns adicionado, “When Jose and I started talking about his ring return, I was the last person to think he was crazy. We were friends during his championship days and I know how incredibly committed and disciplined Jose is. Eu lutei na 49 anos, not to compare myself to the level Jose has been on, but I know that it can be done. What everyone should know is how well Jose has taken care of himself during his thirties and into his forties. Did I ever think that Chris (Traietti, GCP co-promotor) and I would be co-promoting Jose’s comeback? Não, but I’m happy to be involved and I will support him as far as he wants to take this. He’s been training like he’s 25 and Jose’s going to surprise some people.

During Rivera’s title reigns, unlike other world champions, he also held a full-time job as a court officer in the Massachusetts Trial Court, a position in Worcester that he still holds 17 anos depois. Between working and training, never mind his family responsibilities, Jose somehow manages to balance everything in his extremely busy life.

Let’s just say it makes for a busy schedule,” Rivera remarked. “I am committed to taking care of my family and will do whatever it takes. I usually run before work and train after work. Starting early and finishing late makes for busy days, but the job needs to get done. Agora, I’m in the middle of the hardest period of training. The week of the fight is more about preparing mentally and making weight. There’s nothing you can do the week of the fight to help you get into better shape.

Rivera isn’t under any illusions that his comeback will lead to another major world title. The plan is for him to have two more fights to reach a total of 50 como um pro, but he’s taking things one fight at a time, and he still hopes his next fight, tentatively slated for later this year, will be on the same card as his son’s pro debut.

Rivera last fought in 2011, taking an eight-round decision over Paul Mpendo, at Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut. The battle-tested Galvan, his Aug. 17th opponent from Indiana, has fought other world champions, Including Zab Judah, Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr., Jorge Paez e Paul Spadafora.

I hear he comes to fight and that he likes to fool around a bit to try and get into his opponent’s head,” Rivera acrescentou. I’ve concentrated on me, my timing and focus on the game plan

Training for this fight has been more mental than anything else. I have been able to reach peak performance at 45 training like I did in my prime. The most important thing is that, working with my trainer Sean Fitzgerald, I’ve been focused on making sure my timing gets better since it’s been seven years since I last fought.

“E, claro, it’s always a great feeling to box in front of my hometown fans. Their support is always appreciated.

The name of the event is “Regresso a casa” because six fighters in action are from Worcester, including three who’ve never fought there before as professionals.

Middleweight Bola Kendrick, Jr. (9-1-2, 6 KOs) and junior middleweight Khiary Grey (15-4, 11 KOs), both promoted by CES Boxing, will be fighting at home in Worcester as pros for the first time in a pair of six-round bouts. Ball meets Demetrius Walker (8-21-2, 4 KOs) no evento co-destaque, while Gray (15-4, 11 KOs) rostos Antonio Chaves Fernandez (9-33, 4 KOs), of Brockton, MA, in a rematch of a fight won by Gray.

Also scheduled to fight on the undercard in four-round bouts are Springfield, Peso meio-médio MA Jose Angel “KO” Ortiz (4-13-1, 1 KO) vs. Seth Basler (0-8) and pro-debuting featherweight Joshua Orta vs. Worcester de Edwin Rosado (1-7-1, 1 KO), Southbridge, Peso meio-médio MA Wilfredo “o Sucaro” Pagão (4-0, 2 KOs) vs. TBA, and Worcester’s pro-debuting welterweight Eslih Owusu.vs. Bryan “O tijolo” Abraham (6-30-2, 6 KOs).

WORCESTER, Massa. (Julho 19, 2018) – Promoções granito Chin (GCP) and Rivera Promotions Entertainment (RPE) hosted a press conference yesterday at The Ballot Box in Worcester, Massachusetts, to make a major announcement, as well as introduce local fighters on the August 17thpro boxing card at The Palladium in Worcester.

Três vezes, dois divisão campeão mundial “O Gallo” Jose Antonio Rivera (41-6-1, 24 KOs) is making his return in theMaking History” evento principal, in large part because he wanted to fight on the same card as his son, A.J. Rivera, who was to become the first pro boxer who was born with Spina Bifida. A.J., who is a rising matchmaker in New England, was unable to get medically cleared in time and he will not be fighting Aug. 17.

The event has been renamed, “Regresso a casa”, because six of the competing fighters, including Jose Antonio Rivera, live in Worcester.

“Infelizmente,” announced promoter Chuck Shearns, who co-promotes Granite Chin Promotions with Chris Traietti, “A.J. isn’t fighting on this show because he couldn’t get medically cleared in time.

I trained hard and was within five or six pounds of my contract weight,” a disappointed A.J. Rivera explicou. “I passed all of the medical tests except for the CATSCAN. I fought the doctor a little and said I wanted a second opinion. Those results won’t be in time, so I can’t fight on this card.

The reason I’m coming back was to make history with my son,” Jose Antonio Rivera added. “We had talked about it a long time but, infelizmente, it wasn’t meant to be for A.J. for this card. He’s already part of history already as the only fighter born with Spina Bifida who fought as an amateur. I feel bad, but everything happens for a reason and as a father, my son’s safety always comes first. He will continue to be an important part of our team to make our company a success. People are thrown curveballs in life like this and we’ve regrouped to turn this into a positive. We’re still fighting for the cause (Spina Bifida).”

Agora 45 anos, Rivera has already lost more than 30 libras, and he is within eight of his contracted weight for his eight-round fight against RubenModern Day WarriorGalvan (27-26-4, 10 KOs).

Middleweight Bola Kendrick, Jr. (9-1-2, 6 KOs) and junior middleweight Khiary Grey (15-4, 11 KOs), both promoted by CES Boxing, will be making their pro debuts at home in Worcester. Ball faces an opponent to be determined in the six-round co-featured event, while Gray (15-4, 11 KOs) atenda Antonio Chaves Fernandez (9-33, 4 KOs), of Brockton, MA, also in a six rounder.

Undefeated light heavyweight prospect Richard “Popeye o marinheiro” Rivera (8-0, 7 KOs), fighting out of Hartford, CT, is slated to fight in a six-round bout vs. TBA, as well as his stable mate, two-time New England Golden Gloves champion “O escolhido” Sharad Collier (1-0, 1 KO), who takes on his Mexican opponent, Emmanuel “PolloValadez (5-4, 4 KOs), in a four-round match.

Also scheduled to fight on the undercard in four-round bouts are Springfield, Peso meio-médio MA Jose Angel “KO” Ortiz Jose Angel “KO” Ortiz (4-13-1, 1 KO) vs. Seth Basler (0-8) and pro-debuting featherweight Joshua Orta vs. Worcester de Edwin Rosado (1-7-1, 1 KO), Southbridge, Peso meio-médio MA Wilfredo “o Sucaro” Pagão (4-0, 2 KOs) vs. TBA, Worcester lightweight Francisco Irizarry (4-0, 2 KOs) vs. TBA, Worcester’s pro-debuting lightweight Eslih Owusu.vs. Mexicano EngelbertoGuarura” Valenzuela (11-14 (3 KOs).

CITAÇÕES CONFERÊNCIA DE IMPRENSA

Joe Antonio Rivera: “I want to thank everybody for coming. Tomorrow is four weeks to the weigh in. It’s an important date because fighting is easy, making weight isn’t. I want to thank Granite Chin Promotions

Four Worcester fighters (Bola, Cinza, Irizarry and Owusu) on this card have never fought here. It’s huge having Kendrick and Khiary on this card and I’d like to thank CES Boxing for allowing them to fight here. I’m proud of Kendrick and Khiary and excited to have them fighting on this show. Chuck and Granite Chin are running this show, I’m only focused on my opponent.

I’m excited to have an opponent who is coming to fight. He’s my third opponent, but that’s part of boxing. Estou treinando forte, passed my medicals, and it’s like I’m hungry again. I haven’t fought in years, but I’ve taken good care of my body. I didn’t visualize doing this at 45. I’ve also heard that, after August 17th, there’s a possibility of a title for me by the end of this year.

Chuck Shearns (GCP co-promotor): “I’m honored to be involved in this show. Jose and I have been friends for years. Months ago, this all started with a text conversation (Chuck, Jose and A.J.). A week later, it started getting serious, and then we had Jose and A.J. fighting on this card. Infelizmente, A.J. isn’t fighting on this card, but the show will go on.

Jimmy Burchfield (CES promoter): “What’s important is that Jose Antonio Rivera is fighting on this card and that’s why I’m allowing ‘Pepper’ (Bola) and Khiary to fight on this card. I’ve had a good relationship with Chuck and I’ve known Jose and A.J., who worked for me, for a long time. Nothing was happening in Worcester boxing for years, until Jose and A.J. started promoting here, but Worcester has always been a good fight town. All the fighters here will be proud of your victory. This is beautiful! They’ve been around him and know what he’s accomplished in life. Jose has never abused his body, he’s taken good care of himself.

“We (CES Boxing) had an event scheduled August 17th at Twin River (Lincoln, RI), but we moved from that date, and now everything is focused August 17th on Worcester. How could I not have my Worcester fighters on Jose Rivera’s comeback card? ‘Pepperand Khiary really wanted to fight on this card. These kids (fighters seated at head table) look up to Jose for what he’s done and in life and his comeback is a really big story. I know what ‘Pepperand Khiary are going to do and I know what Jose is going to do because he’s a veteran. I believe this will be a sell out!”

Bola Kendrick, Jr.:I want to thank my promoter, Jimmy Burchfield, for giving me the okay to fight on this card. I also want to thank Granite Chin Promotions and Rivera Promotions Entertainment. I’ve waited for this a long time. This fight will give me a chance to redeem myself and show why I’m the next great middleweight to come out of Worcester. I’m ready to get it on.

Khiary Grey:I want to thank Rivera Promotions Entertainment, CES Boxing and Granite Chin Promotions for giving me a chance to fight at home for the first time. This is a rematch for me. I stopped him in the first round, but there was some controversy. I know he’s coming to fight.

Eslih Owusi:I just graduated from high school and I wasn’t going to turn pro until after that. Fighting as a pro will be much more exciting than in the amateurs.

Jose Angel Ortiz: “Estou muito animado. I haven’t fought in two years. I was supposed to return before, but things didn’t work out. I never left boxing because I’m in the gym all the time working out or training other fighters. Jose and I are both in our forties. We’re going to show everybody that we can still fight.

Edwin Rosado:I will try and put on the best show I can.

Joshua Orta:I’m very happy about my first pro fight. I’ve dreamed of this day. Everybody is going to see an exciting card. I love this sport and always train hard.

“O Gallo” JOSE ANTONIO RIVERA
Sábado, Agosto 17, 2018

Agosto 17 no paládio em Worcester, MA
(L-R): A.J. and Jose Antonio Rivera

WORCESTER, Massa. (Junho 20, 2018) — This past Father’s Day was considerably different for three-time, dois divisão campeão mundial “O Gallo” Jose Antonio Rivera and his pro-debuting son, A.J. Rivera, because they will beMaking History,” presented by Rivera Promotions Entertainment and Granite Chin Promotions, Agosto 17 at The Palladium.

Rivera and his son, respectivamente, are the promoter and matchmaker for Rivera Promotions Entertainment (RPE), which will co-promoteMaking Historywith Granite Chin Promotions (GCP).

We are excited to be teaming up with GCP for this historic boxing event,” Jose commented. “We have had the pleasure of working with Chris (Traietti) and Chuck (Shearns) in the past. We are grateful that they are able to work with us again to make sure we put together a great boxing event.

The Riveras will become the first world-champion father-son combination to fight on a pro show that is promoted by their company. More significantly, A.J. will become the first pro boxer to be born with Spina Bifida.

Agora 45 anos, Rivera is making his second comeback, but this time it’s solely to fight on the same card as his son. Due to a variety of reasons, “O Gallo” retired from the ring in 2008, but he came back in 2011 for two fights, both victories, before hanging up his gloves again.

Duas lutas mais tarde, in front of nearly 10,000 hometown fans in Worcester, Rivera won a 12-round unanimous decision over defending champion Alejandro Garcia (25-1) for the WBA World super welterweight title.

I am boxing at 45 years old because of this great opportunity that has arisen for my son and I,” Jose explained. “Boxing on the same card with my son is going to be exciting and, even more so, because we will be a part of history! I am fortunate to be healthy, fisicamente, and I am grateful to my Heavenly Father for not having any brain issues from my prior years of boxing. I’ve lost 20 libras, so far, and need to lose 12 more to make the 160-pound weight class.

I am not sure how the night of the fight is going to go. I play it in my head over and over about how I would like it to go, mas, no final,, I’m confident we will both be ready for tough fights because of the hard work we’re both putting in at the gym.

Fan response has been good, positive and supportive of what we both are doing and attempting to accomplish. To look back at the day I was told my son was going to be born with Spina Bifida, preparing myself mentally for the worse, e agora 25 years later here we are close to fulfilling his childhood dream. É incrível! I feel blessed to share this moment with my son. I am also happy that we can do this in front of our family, amigos & fans in our City of Worcester, where my son was born, and I was raised since I moved there when I was 16.

Em agosto. 17, Rivera will face battle-tested middleweight Ryan “Dangerous” Davis (24-19, 9 KOs), fighting out of East Saint Louis, Illinois, no evento principal oito-redonda. Davis has been in with the iron, including six-time, dois divisão campeão mundial Zab Judah, former International Boxing Federation (IBF) campeão mundial Ishe Smith, two-time world title challenger and 2004 EUA olímpico Vances Martirosyan, desafiante ao título mundial Jonathan Reid, reigning International Boxing Association (IBA) world junior middleweight champion Mark DeLuca, plus other notables such as Rob Brant, mikaël zewski, Carlos Bojorquez e Dominik Britsch.

Twenty-five-year-old A.J. will fight an opponent to be determined in a four-round welterweight match. He is a graduate of Johnson & Wales with a major in sports management, who has quickly become one of the most respected matchmakers in New England.

A.J. grew-up in a gym, watching his father train, and he also fought as an amateur boxer. “I’ve always wanted to fight as a pro and what better way than to make my pro debut on the same card headlined by my pops,” Rivera disse. “This is a one and done, I’m not going to box as a career and, hopefully I will leave the ring on August 17th and retire undefeated. I plan to make matchmaking a career. I can stay in the sport I’ve always loved and matchmake for our company and for other promoters.

I was born with Spina Bifida. A layer of skin covered a hole in my back, preventing water from getting in, which would have damaged my system and left me paralyzed, unable to speak and with a shunt in my head to drain fluid. The doctors told my parents that, if I survived, I’d only live to be 19, in a wheelchair and a little autistic. I had surgery the next day and my pops kept hope. WORCESTER, Massa. (Junho 11, 2017) – Boxing returned to DCU Arena (Hall de exibição) pela primeira vez em 11 anos and Worcester’s newest budding star, Irvin Gonzalez, entertained the hometown crowd, capturando a vaga Federação Universal de Boxe (UBF) Featherweight Championship, last night in theNew England’s Future 3” evento principal.
New England’s Future 3was presented by Rivera Promotions Entertainment (RPE), que é de propriedade e operados por aposentou três vezes, dois divisão campeão mundial Jose Antonio Rivera e seu filho, Anthonee (A.J.) Rivera. RPE will return to the DCU Center on October 28th for its final installment of “Futuro da Nova Inglaterra” series in 2017.
In the co-featured attraction, popular New York City heavyweight SonyaThe ScholarLamonakis, by way of Greece and Turners Falls, MA, enfrentado LauraLady RamRamsey in a female battle of former world champions for the vacant UBF World title,
The 21-year-old Gonzalez (7-0, 6 KOs) was fighting in his first scheduled eight-round bout, contra Raul Lopez (10-32-1, 5 KOs), do Bronx (Nova Iorque). The two fighters came out fast in a firefight, both throwing leather from all angles, although neither was hurt in the opening round. The pace picked up even more in the second as both fighters landed solid shots.
Fighting in the third round for the first time in his young professional career, Gonzalez turned up the heat, ripping effective combination to the head and body of Lopez, who responded by pounding Gonzalez on the ropes.
Gonzalez dropped Lopez early in the fourth with a strong right to the chin, followed by a brawling fifth round, and the action slowed slightly in the sixth. Gonzalez, who took control in the final two rounds, went the distance for the first time, taking a hard-fought eight-round unanimous decision (79-73 X 2, 76-75).
He was definitely the toughest I’ve fought,” Gonzalez said after the fight. “I still have to work on things in the gym. I didn’t go to the body like I did in my last few fights. I was head-hunting tonight. The dude was tough, I had to out-box him. I hurt my left hand late in the later rounds and stayed southpaw.
I definitely learned a lot. My conditioning was there and I went eight strong rounds. Eu me sinto bem, I could go another eight rounds. Fighting at home was good, I have a big fan-base here. I hope to be back here in October 28th.”
Lamonakis (10-2-3, 1 KO), a former IBO world champion, and past GBU world titlist Ramsey (108-1, 5 KOs) went toe-to-toe from the opening bell for 10 competitivo, non-stop rounds, ending in a 10-round draw by three judgesscores of 95-95.
Undefeated Worcester heavyweight Bryan Daniels (5-0, 3 KOs) unloaded on an over-matched ChristopherThe ArchbishopBoykins (1-9), dropping the Floridian three times in the second round until referee Leo Gerstel mercifully waved off the fight at the end of the second.
Former No. 1 USA amateur boxer Bobby Harris III, the son of multiple national amateur champion and retired pro heavyweight, Bobby Harris, made his long-awaited pro debut. Fighting out of Worcester, Harris overcame early roughhouse tactics by Brazilian light heavyweight Rodrigo Almeida, de Woburn, MA, to earn a four-round “fechamento de fábrica” decisão.
In a rematch of a fight this past April, Antonio Chaves Fernandez (8-32-4, 2 KOs), of Brockton (MA), defeated Worcester welterweight Andy Gonzalez (6-2, 5 KOs), by way of a six-round majority decision, to even their rivalry at 1-1.
Southbridge, Peso meio-médio MA Wilfredo “o Sucaro” Pagão (2-0) and his Lawrence, MA opponent, Anthony Everett (1-6), turned in an entertaining performance as Pagan won a four-round majority decision, despite him being decked in the final round.
Lawrence, Peso meio-médio MA Adrian Sosa (3-0, 3 KOs) needed only 41-second to stop New York City’s Zach Johnson (0-2). Sosa dropped Johnson in the first 10 seconds and again moments later, after which referee Gerstel halted the action.
Springfield, Peso meio-médio MA Grua “Impacto duplo” Whitley (2-0), the son of a retired professional boxer, melhorou a 2-0 with a four-round unanimous decision over veteran Connecticut fighter Shaka Moore (12-23-3, 2 KOs).
Worcester’s pro-debuting Neal Sullivan (0-0-1) e superpesado brasileiro Saul Almeida (0-8-1) opened the night fighting a four-round majority draw.

New England’s Future 3” é apresentado por Rivera Promoções Entretenimento (RPE), que é de propriedade e operados por aposentou três vezes, dois divisão campeão mundial Jose Antonio Rivera e seu filho, Anthonee (A.J.) Rivera.
Perspectiva invicta Irvin Gonzalez (6-0, 6 KOs), 21, headlines at home in his first scheduled eight-round bout, contra Raul Lopez (10-2-1, 5 KOs), do Bronx (Nova Iorque), for the vacant UBF All-American super featherweight championship.
I am excited to be able to have our first world championship boxing match on our ‘New England’s 3’ evento de boxe,” promoter Jose Rivera commented. “It’s special because it’s a women’s World Heavyweight title fight with veterans like Sonya and Laura, who also have some hostilities towards one another. They’ve both earned this opportunity to fight for the UBF Women’s World Heavyweight Championship. I expect fireworks and know fans will be in for a treat.
Pro boxing returns to the DCU Center for the first time em 11 anos, when promoter Jose Antonio Rivera defeated Alejandro Garcia, por meio de uma decisão unânime 12-redonda, para a Associação Mundial de Boxe (WBA) título mundial de super meio-médio.
Born in Greece, Lamonakis (10-2-2, 1 KO), who grew-up in Turners Falls (MA), is a teacher in New York City. She is a Springfield College graduate and has two Master’s Degrees. “I’m honored to be fighting in the first world title fight in Worcester since Jose Rivera,” Lamonakis said. “I’m from Massachusetts and I fought twice at Mechanics Hall (em Worcester, including her pro debut in 2010). I heard Jose was promoting shows in Worcester, so I called to say I’d like to fight for a world title on one of his cards. I think he saw me fight before and he quickly agreed.
This is still a make-dominates sport. I tell young girls to box as a side job. I have two Master’s Degrees and I’m a full-time teacher in New York. Boxing is my hobby. Very few women can make enough money boxing to make a good living. I don’t know if it’s because I was born in Greece and boxing is in my blood, but I love this sport and that’s what keeps me going. I guess I was born to fight. I enjoy getting in the ring. I’ve gotten a lot from boxing and now I’m giving back to amateurs in New York City as president of a youth organization.
Lamonakis; is a former International Boxing Organization World and New York State female heavyweight champion. Her opponent, Ramsey (10-7, KOs), as a two-time world title challenger is hoping the third time is the charm for her. They have history together and this fight nearly happened a few years ago.
I beat her daughter (Alysia Williams-Stevenson) in my second pro fight,” Lamonakis explained. “She said she’s see me and now, seven years later, we’re fighting. She’s a little older than me and I needed more fights before I fought her. We were supposed to fight a few years ago in Aruba but a hurricane cancelled the show.
In an eight-round Special Cruiserweight Attraction, Pembroke (MA) fan favorite Vinnie “Pesadelo americano” Carita (16-1-1, 15 KOs) meets Brazilian knockout specialist Marcelo LeonardoQueizada” da Silva (22-4, 17 KOs).

Budding star Irvin Gonzalez Starting to make waves in Super featherweight division

PARA DIVULGAÇÃO IMEDIATA
New England’s Future 3June 10th em Worcester, MA

WORCESTER, Massa. (Maio 24, 2017) – New England’s top prospect with 10 pro fights of less, undefeated hometown favorite Irvin Gonzalez, is on a fast track going into his June 10th headline fight in the third installment of the “Futuro da Nova Inglaterra” série, no Centro DCU (Hall de exibição) em Worcester, Massachusetts.

New England’s Future 3” é apresentado por Rivera Promoções Entretenimento (RPE), que é de propriedade e operados por aposentou três vezes, dois divisão campeão mundial Jose Antonio Rivera e seu filho, Anthonee (A.J.) Rivera.
The 21-year-old Gonzalez (6-0, 6 KOs) assume Raul Lopez (10-2-1, 5 KOs), do Bronx (Nova Iorque), in an eight-round main event for the vacant Universal Boxing Federation (UBF) All-American super featherweight championship.
Pro boxing returns to the DCU Center for the first time em 11 anos, ironicamente, when promoter Jose Antonio Rivera defeated Alejandro Garcia, por meio de uma decisão unânime 12-redonda, para a Associação Mundial de Boxe (WBA) título mundial de super meio-médio.
I am excited to watch Irvin’s boxing career flourish,” promoter Jose Rivera remarked. “He has all the tools to become a world champion. Fighting for the UBF championship will be the first of many and I am glad that we are able to give him this opportunity. I see big things for Irvin and I hope fans come out Sábado noite, Junho 10th, to support him and the other local boxers.”.
“Esta é uma grande oportunidade para mim,” Gonzalez disse. “I’m blessed to be fighting in Worcester for my first title. It’s not a big title but it’s like taking baby steps to a world title. Since I started boxing at the Boys & Girls Club, I always wanted to be like Jose, a three-time world champion. Agora, it’s my turn, and I’m fighting again in my city.
Gonzalez has a perfect pro record: six rights, six wins by knockout. Contudo, he’s only had fought a grand total of eight rounds, e junho 10th he’s in a scheduled eight-round match. The well-spoken youngster isn’t concerned with the step up in rounds and opposition.
I’ve been asked about that by a lot of media, trainers and other fighters,” he explained. “I’ve always trained like it’s for a world title fight, 12 rounds, so I’m not worried about going into deep water. I’m in magnificent shape, three weeks before the fight, and even in the amateurs I’ve always gotten stronger as the fight went along. In sparring, I get stronger, so going eight isn’t a problem for me.
I don’t really know much about my opponent. He won a few national titles but hasn’t fought too often. I’ll see what he brings into the ring and then adjust. I know I’m taller.
Gonzalez learned a lot when he was a sparring partner for Guillermo Rigondeaux in Florida that was supposed to be a six-week training camp that ended after three weeks due to Rigondeauxfight being cancelled.
I learned a lot about different training methods that I now use,” Irvin continued. “His techniques are phenomenal. I was around a world champion, two-time Olympic gold medalist and I saw his work ethic. After all he’s accomplished, he still has a great work ethic, and I learned from him that a fighter need continue working like he does until the day it’s all over. It’s not all about money, it’s having fun every day, doing what we love.
Former world female heavyweight champions SonyaThe ScholarLamonakis (10-2-2, 1 KO), the New York City teacher who lived in Turners Falls (MA), e LauraLady RamRamsey (10-7, 5 KOs) battle for the vacant UBF World heavyweight title in the eight-round co-featured event.
