Usyk (14-0, 11 KOs) of Kiev, Ukraine is WBC and WBO world cruiserweight champion.

Yang 2012 Olympic Gold Medal winner won the WBO world title with a 12-round unanimous decision over Krzysztof Glowacki on September 17, 2016 in Poland. Usyk defended the title twice with a 9th round stoppage over Thabiso Mchunu and a 12-round unanimous decision over Michael Hunter.

 

 

 

Usyk scored a 10th round stoppage over former world champion Marco Huck. In his latest bout, Usyk captured the WBC World Cruiserweight title with a majority decision over Mairis Briedis on January 27th in Latvia.

 

 

 

Gassiev (26-0, 19 KOs) Rusia, is the IBF and WBA Super Cruiserweight champion.

Gassiev now trains in Big Bear, California under famed trainer Abel Sanchez. The 24-year-old Gassiev won IBF championship on December 3, 2016 with a 12-round unanimous decision over Denis Lebedev.

WBO News: Wilfredo Gómez crowned ‘Honorific Champion’ of the World Boxing Organization

In a crowed activity held in Arecibo, the World Boxing Organization (WBO), with the collaboration of former world champion Samuel ‘El Torbellino’ Serrano, brought together several former Puerto Rican world champions along with currents boxers to recognize the trajectory of former three-division world champion Wilfredo ‘Bazooka’ Gómez.

 

 

 

“Had the WBO existed in the Gómez era, he would have been our champion. But we still celebrate him because of his legacy in the ring and his great humility as a person. This belt that we preset to him today names him a WBO ‘Honorific Champion of Champions’, yet it is only a small sample of the affection and admiration that we have for him,” said WBO president Francisco ‘Paco’ Valcárcel.

 

 

 

An excited Gomez said that “I thank with the WBO and Paco for their support and recognition on this day. Terima kasih banyak. I am very happy with everyone who is here.”

Trainers Dennis Pantoja, Yoel Gonzalez, Felix Pagan Pintor, Margaro Cruz, as well as referees José Hiram Rivera and Roberto Ramírez, Jr., promoter Peter Rivera, and Chairman of the WBO Rankings C-ommittee, Edgardo López Sasso together with WBO legal advisor and member of the WBO Regional Titles Committee Gustavo Olivieri and other sports personalities were sharing in the activity.

 

 

 

Gómez won the gold medal in the first amateur world championships, held in Havana in 1974. He then jumped to the professional ranks and won world titles at 122, 126 dan 130 pound. WBO News: Another Successful Boxing Officials’ Seminar Was Held In Chicago

The World Boxing Organization and the Illinois State Athletic Commission concluded a successful training seminar for boxing officials at the Garfield Park – Golden Dome, Chicago, Illinois.

 

 

 

This event covered different topics, such as refereeing, judging, rules, and ethics; the seminar followed an interactive format with the purpose of giving ring officials the necessary knowledge, confidence and experience to execute good judgement of a boxing match.

 

 

 

John Duggan, First Vice-President of the WBO, stated that some of the objectives of these events are to “improve the quality of officiating” and he highlighted the importance of cross training ring officials in order to ensure the correct decisions are made during a boxing match, “correct officiating is important to ensure the right and deserving winner is named in a fight”.

 

 

 

Sementara itu, referee Celestino Ruiz and former referee Gino Rodriguez conducted the referees’ training and stressed out the importance of taking control from the moment instructions are given in the locker room; the necessity of having proper knowledge of the rules and being correctly positioned during a fight.

 

 

 

Ethics and professionalism were also covered, as fundamental aspects in the development of a career as a boxing official.

 

 

 

Videos were used to exemplify, analyze and break down different decisions during a boxing match, this is important to help participants understand some of the scenarios they may have to face, it offers them the possibility to clarify doubts while at the same time put their knowledge to test.

 

 

 

The WBO values these opportunities to contribute with the training of boxing officials and help them attain mastery of their skills.

The World Boxing Organization (WBO) will oversee four major fights this week around the world, including a world championship bout.

 

 

 

Starting on Thursday, Jun 14 at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Jepun, seventh ranked Hiroaki Teshigawara (16-2-2, 9 KOs), Tokyo, will defend his WBO Asia-Pacific Bantamweight title against the two-time world title challenger Teiru Kinoshita (26-2-1, 9 KOs), daripada Kobe.

WBO: Officials Named for Title Bout Between World Champion Ángel Acosta and Carlos Buitrago

The World Boxing Organization (WBO) announced the officials for this Saturday, Jun 16, clash between WBO Jr. Flyweight Champion, Angel ‘Tito’ Acosta, dari Puerto Rico, and ranked No. 10 by this sanctioning body Carlos ‘Chocorroncito’ Buitrago, dari Nicaragua, dalam jadual 12 rounds bout.
