NOVA IORQUE (Março 28, 2016)- A three-fight series to crown a unified divisional champion will begin on Sábado, Abril 30, when WBC 168-pound champion Badou Jack defends his title against former longtime titlist Lucian Bute, and IBF Champion James Degale risks his belt against mandated challenger Rogelio Medina numa Showtime Championship Boxing doubleheader live onALTURA DE COMEÇAR (10 p.m. E/7 p.m. PT) do DC Armory em Washington D.C..
The winners will meet in a super middleweight world-title unification fight later this year.
Tomada (20-1-1, 12 KOs) will make his second title defense after a breakthrough 2015 campaign in which he won the WBC belt from Anthony Dirrell and successfully defended against George Groves. The southpaw Bute (32-3, 25 KOs), a former IBF champion with nine defenses between 2007 e 2012, revived his career last November with a gutsy and inspired performance against DeGale.
“I’ve been training really hard for this fight and I’m excited to get in the ring,” disse Jack. “I can’t wait to defend my title once again on Abril 30. The fans can expect to see an explosive and skillful performance from me come fight night. I believe I’m the best super middleweight in the world and that I have the skills to beat anyone I get in the ring with. I’m fully focused on Lucian Bute, but I know that a win can set up a massive fight against James DeGale and I’m going to deliver.”

DeGale (22-1, 14 KOs) will make his second title defense after an impressive 2015 in which he defeated Andre Dirrell to win the vacant IBF belt and topped Bute in a Fight of the Year candidate. The hard-hitting Medina (35-6, 29 KOs), the IBF’s mandatory challenger, has knocked out three consecutive opponents.
“I am delighted to be defending my world title on another great show in the United States,” said DeGale. “I won my belt in style in Boston and I’m looking forward to moving down the East Coast to the great city of Washington, D.C. It’s going to be a defining night in the super middleweight division as Badou Jack and myself look to set up a huge fight later in the year. I’m fully focused on Rogelio Medina. Badou Jack “The Ripper”, of Las Vegas by way of Stockholm, Suécia, captured the WBC 168-pound crown with a 12-round majority decision over previously unbeaten defending champion Anthony Dirrelllast Abril 24. A former amateur standout who represented Gambia in the 2008 Jogos Olímpicos, Jack retained his belt against former world title challenger George Groves last Sete. 12 on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather’s final fight. Tomada, who fights under the Mayweather Promotions banner, was an underdog against both Dirrell and Groves. A 6-foot-1, 32-year-old has won four in a row since a shocking first-round knockout loss to Derek Edwards in February 2014.
Bute, de Montreal, Canada by way of Romania, has been a super middleweight mainstay for the last decade. He has competed in 12 title fights since 2007, scoring seven knockouts in nine consecutive defenses of the IBF belt he won in 2007 in his adopted hometown of Montreal. During his title reign, the 36-year-old defeated the likes of Glen Johnson, Librado Andrade and Jean-Paul Mendy, but he lost the belt to Carl Froch in 2012 and a string of injuries kept him largely inactive over the next three years. Bute returned from a 19-month absence in August 2015 under new trainer Howard Grant, knocking out Andrea Di Luisa to set up the title shot against DeGale for the crown he once held. Bute stalked the switch-hitting DeGale with a relentless attack, turning in his most impressive performance in years in a close decision loss.
James “Chunky” DeGale, de Londres, Inglaterra, won the vacant IBF belt in his U.S. debut last May by dropping Andre Dirrell twice on his way to a unanimous decision. O 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist then successfully defended it last November in a thrilling shootout with hometown favorite and former titlist Lucian Bute. A 30-year-old, who’s only blemish came in a majority decision in his 11th bout against then-unbeaten George Groves, will make his third consecutive start outside his native England as he looks to become a global power at 168 libras.
Rogelio “Porky” Medina is a hard-hitting veteran with 30 nocautes em sua 36 vitórias na carreira. NOVA IORQUE (Março 11, 2016)—SHOWTIME Sports na sexta-feira announced seven live boxing telecasts over a 12-week span, a stacked lineup featuring nine world championship fights and 14 overall matches in boxing’s deepest and most exciting divisions.

 

The full slate of programming is free to SHOWTIME subscribers, and the presentation on CBS is the first Prime Time boxing event on CBS television network in decades.

 

Stephen Espinoza, Vice-Presidente Executivo & General Manager of SHOWTIME Sports, also announced a summer blockbuster in the making.

 

“This is an incredibly exciting time in boxing, a time for emerging stars to make their mark, and for established champions to break through to the next level,” Espinoza said.

 

“This schedule features high level matchups with champions taking on the highest-rated contenders available, and top-ranked challengers facing one another. We are thrilled and grateful to the promoters and the fighters themselves who have worked with us these last few weeks to put together such an impressive lineup for SHOWTIME Boxing. HIDALGO, TEXAS (Maio 9, 2015) – Omar “Panterita” Figueroa (25-0-1, 18 KOs) permaneceu invicto como ele fez um show emocionante na frente de uma multidão da cidade natal estridente e ganhou uma decisão unânime sobre Ricky Burns (37-5-1, 11 KOs) na Premier Boxe dos Campeões na CBS ao vivo do State Farm Arena, em Hidalgo, Texas.

 

Figueroa foi o lutador mais nítida que desembarcou golpes mais duros e foi capaz de ditar o ritmo da luta. Burns, foi deduzido um ponto, tanto no oitavo e 11th rounds por o árbitro para exploração excessiva. “Panterita” ganhou por dezenas de 116-110 duas vezes e 117-109.

“O plano era tentar furar a boxe pela primeira metade da luta, mas uma vez que o tamanho realmente assumiu que eu tinha que ficar e troca mais do que eu teria gostado. Eu não poderia tirá-lo de mim. Eu não tenho desculpas, como eu disse o melhor homem vai ganhar.

 

“Eu sempre deixar tudo no ringue e isso é tudo que eu posso fazer. Espero que todos que assistiram apreciamos a luta.

 

“Temos desfrutado a experiência de estar em os EUA, obviamente, a decisão não foi o caminho que coloca um amortecedor sobre ele, mas todos em geral aqui no Texas tem sido grande. Eu quero dizer um grande obrigado a todos. Espero voltar novamente.”

OMAR FIGUEROA

 

“This is the biggest fight of my career thus far. I have my brother on the undercard and it’s here at home. É isso. I think it’s great for people from the Valley to get a huge card like this here. They haven’t seen this since Vasquez vs. Marquez, so I hope to bring that level of boxing back to the Valley.

 

“I definitely feel more pressure but the good kind of pressure. I’ve thrived on pressure my whole life. I was a pitcher for a long time. I was a closer. So I’ve been in situations where it’s bases loaded and we’re down so many runs and I’ve got to keep the game close. This is what I live for.

 

“I haven’t seen any film of Ricky Burns. Haven’t watched him at all. But from what I’ve heard he’s a tough fighter in great shape, so if we go 12 rounds it’ll be a good 12 rounds. I’m going to go out there and give it my all and win in the most impressive way possible.

 

“It wasn’t difficult to give up my title. I don’t fight for titles. I don’t care for titles. I think they’re just aesthetic things. I’d rather please the fans with a good fight. I don’t care if I win a title at the end of the day, but if the fans are happy, I am happy.

 

“I’m going to be a lot stronger at this new weight. I don’t know what to expect. I’m excited to get in the ring and find out.”

 

RICKY QUEIMADURAS

 

“When you’re in hard fights, that’s what brings out the best of you. I’m looking forward to getting in the ring and putting on a good performance and win some fans over here.

 

“It’s a very tough fight and we knew that before we took it. Figueroa likes to come forward and be aggressive, but that can be his downside because he takes a lot of shots. We’re prepared for whatever happens on fight night and the best man will win.

 

“Some people think I’ve come over here just to be an opponent but that’s not the case. I had a bad year but it’s all behind me. I’m going to get back to my winning ways.

 

“This is everything I’ve ever wanted to accomplish in boxing. It’s going to be a hard fight but by the time the fight comes it will be just about four weeks that I’ve been in Texas.

 

“I treat boxing as my job, when it comes to training and fighting I always give it 100 percent and leave it all in the ring and hopefully the fans will see that. Omar is never in a dull fight and I’m not one to back out.

 

“We’ve treated this fight exactly the same as any other. Even though we’re in his hometown, as soon as that first bell goes that’s when it’s going to count. It’s just me and him in that ring.”

 

Tomoki Kameda

 

“It is a dream come true to fight on a network like CBS. Millions are now going to get to know me, get to know my style. Boxing is changing and to be part of that is a great honor to me.

“It was not easy to relinquish my world title — I was the first Japanese to hold that title. It’s never easy to give up something that you’ve worked so hard for. But I respect the sanctioning body’s decision, they said I had to relinquish it and so I did. Agora, I’m going for another title, and after that maybe unification.

“McDonnell is a good boxer. He knows how to box and knows his way inside the ring. Most British fighters do that, move around a lot. Its not an easy style to face, but my team and I have a great strategy and we are going to win, we are going to win by knockout.

“I love Mexico. I moved there when I was 15 with my family. I did all of my amateur and all my professional career there. I’m grateful to Mexico and all Mexicans for giving me so much.

“My team and the guys at the gym started calling me ‘El Mexicanito’ because I embrace Mexican culture as my own. I love the food, the people and of course the Spanish language. I struggle with it at first, but now I think I got it mastered.”

 

JAMIE MCDONNELL

 

“I think Kameda is a bit scared and a bit intimidated by my size. I genuinely believe I am going to knock him out. I’m too big and too strong.

 

“I’ve been a world champion for a couple of years now. I’m ultra-confident for this fight. It’s the best I’ve ever felt. Eu estou realmente esperando por isso.

HIDALGO, TEXAS (Maio 7, 2015) – A full day of exciting undercard fights come to State Farm Arena in Hidalgo, Texasno sábado tarde, Maio 9 as local fan favorites and top prospects will look to make their marks on the boxing world. After a long career having fought mostly in Mexico, a 26-year-old Medina burst onto the scene with a thrilling knockout over previously unbeaten J’Leon Love in Aug. 2014. The fighter out of Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico added two more victories since then and looks for a third when he takes on the 35-year-old Moleiro out of Arboletes, Colômbia.

 

 

An undefeated fighter making his 2015 estréia, the 22-year-old Flores out of Morella, Mexico will take on an experienced fighter in the 28-year-old Meraz out of Agua Prieta, Sonora, México. Another fighter looking to keep his perfect record intact, a 25-year-old Price fora do St. Louis takes on the 27-year-old Ovalle from Mercedes, Texas.

 

 

Representando New South Wales, Austraila, Lovett tornou-se profissional em 2010 e ainda tem que largar uma luta em sua primeira 11 extremidades. The 30-year-old takes on the 28-year-old Watkins out of Morgantown, West Virginia.

A 2004 Puerto Rican Olympian, a 30-year-old Velasquez has been perfect since his lone loss to Rico Ramos in 2013. The fighter out of Catano, Puerto Rico hopes for his fourth straight victory when he battles the 36-year-old Ruiz out of Santa Clarita, Califórnia.

 

 

Lutando em seu estado natal e representando San Antonio, Bairros looks for his second victory of 2015 em Maio 9. The 19-year-old hopes to build on his momentum when he squares off against the 25-year-old Vale out of Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

 

 

The brother of headliner Omar, Brandon Figueroa will make his pro debut at 18-years-old just miles away from his hometown of Weslaco, Texas. His opponent is the 27-year-old Gutierrez out of Mission, Texas.

 

 

A pair of swing bouts feature 23-year-old Houston native Karl battling the 32-year-old Salão out of Jackson, Michigan and the 20-year-old Alvarez from McAllen, Texas who faces 29-year-old Espinoza a partir de San Antonio.
