LAS VEGAS (November 12, 2015) – Undefeated Cuban Rances “Kid Blast” Barthelemy (23-0, 13 KOs) and Russia’s Denis Shafikov (36-1-1, 19 KOs) will fight for a lightweight world title on Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on Spike Friday, December 18 from the Pearl at Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.
Televised coverage begins at 9 p.m. ET/PT and will see cruiserweight world champion Beibut Shumenov (16-2, 10 KOs) in a matchup with former world cruiserweight world champion Krzyzstof Wlodarczyk (49-3-1, 35 KOs). Also featured on the telecast is undefeated junior middleweight Chris “Young King” Pearson (13-0, 10 KOs) and rising unbeaten prospect Gervonta “Tank” Davis (13-0, 12 KOs) in separate attractions.
“On December 18 I’m going to make history by adding another world title to my collection,” said Barthelemy. “Shafikov is a very tough opponent and at this level everyone is dangerous. I’m taking this fight very seriously and the boxing world will take notice of my presence in the ring. Fans love to see action and that’s what I bring to every fight. I’m going to send a stern message to the world of boxing that I’m one of the best in the sport.”
“I’ve been preparing my whole life for this fight and to become a world champion,” said Shafikov. “This is my second world title fight and while I have a great deal of respect for Barthelemy, I will be victorious on December 18. My trainer Abel Sanchez and I have been working hard for the past couple of months and we will have a great game plan on fight night.”
“I am happy to get back in the ring again because I want to fight all of the best fighters in the cruiserweight division,” said Shumenov. “I would like to stay more active because I’m still developing. I am curious to see my progression and how I will do against the best cruiserweights.”
“I’m very excited to be fighting a well-known opponent in Las Vegas,” said Wlodarczyk. “Shumenov is a tricky guy, but he has no heart. He tried to run from the action in his last fight. I do not like to fight guys who run but if I want to fight the best I have to destroy this chicken and I will do it.”

A Cuban amateur national champion, the 29-year-old Barthelemy has yet to taste defeat since turning pro in 2009. Born in Cuba but now fighting out of Las Vegas, he won a super featherweight world title in July of last year by defeating Argenis Mendez in impressive fashion and followed that up with a second round TKO over Angino Perez. Most recently, he defeated former world champion Antonio DeMarco in convincing fashion in a PBC main event in June.
Having fought in eight countries throughout his pro career, the 30-year-old Shafikovbrings a full career of experiences with him into his second world title opportunity onDecember 18. Born in Miass, Russia, he enters this fight having won three in a row by taking down Rustam Nugaev, Miguel Mendoza and Roy Mukhlis.
A native of Shymkent, Kazakhstan fighting out of Las Vegas, Shumenov looks to build on his last fight, which saw him earn a cruiserweight crown by defeating B.J. Flores in July. The 32-year-old won a world title at light heavyweight by defeating Gabriel Campillo in Las Vegas in 2010. The 2004 Olympian for Kazakhstan went on to defend his title five times and will return to the scene of his latest triumph on December 18.
A two-time world champion in the cruiserweight division, Warsaw, Poland’s Wlodarczyk looks to win a world title for a third time in his career at cruiserweight. The 34-year-old owns world title-winning victories over Steve Cunningham and Giacobbe Fragomeni. In his last world title reign Wlodarczyk defended his belt six times, including victories over Danny Green, Rakhim Chakhkiyev and Francisco Palacios.
Born in Dayton, Ohio, Pearson has impressed with strong victories over Steve Martinez, Said El Harrak, Lanardo Tyner and previously unbeaten Acacio Joao Ferreira in four fights before he defeated Janks Trotter in September. The 24-year-old looks to continue to rise within the junior middleweight division and cement his contender status on December 18.
A highly-regarded prospect who won the 2012 National Gloves championship, the 21-year-old Davis has already recorded four stoppage victories in 2015. Most recently, the Baltimore-native stopped former world champion Cristobal Cruz with a vicious combination in their October fight.

MARIO BARRIOS PASSES STIFF  TEST; IMPROVES TO 13-0, 7 KOs

SAN ANTONIO, TX (November 12, 2015) – On Tuesday at the Austin City Music Hall in Austin, Texas, super-featherweight sensation Mario Barrios (13-0, 7 KOs) remained undefeated after stepping up in class to face his toughest opponent to date in Enrique Tinoco (15-2-2, 11 KOs), winning by unanimous decision.  Tinoco, who had previously beaten three undefeated fighters, two of which were 14-0, was coming off a 4-fight knockout streak.  That streak was ended by Barrios.
Making his Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) TOE-TO-TOE TUESDAYS on Fox Sports 1 debut, 20-year old Barrios showed tremendous heart and skill while beating Tinoco after suffering a bloody nose in round two.  Having difficulty breathing, Barrios had to bite down and make the proper adjustments to finish the fight on top.  Barrios did so in spectacular fashion.
Barrios, who used his height and reach to his advantage while landing powerful punches throughout the fight, hurt Tinoco on multiple occasions.  Although Tinoco used every veteran trick in the book against Barrios, he was no match for the young San Antonio native Barrios, who swept the middle and later rounds.  Scorecards read 78-74 all in favor of Barrios
“I knew going into this fight that Tinoco was going to be my toughest test, because he had confidence upsetting other fighters in the past,” said Mario Barrios. “In addition he was getting top sparring in Mexico during training camp.  But my entire team and I never had any doubts about my ability to be victorious.  My head trainer Bob Santoshas a lot of experience dealing with adversity and he did an excellent job keeping me calm in the corner when I suffered a bloody nose early in the fight.  My cutman Todd Harlib also did a great job stopping the blood from gushing out.  This was a great learning experience and I want to thank my entire team, especially my dad Martin, for all their hard work.”

Rodriguez and Seals arrived to the Mississippi Gulf Coast Wednesday and had a lot to say about Fridaynight’s matchup.

“This guy [Michael Seals] is undefeated. That’s one challenge. His mentality. He doesn’t know how to lose. I need to come out and convince him that he can. That’s the first battle. You need to convince them, it’s time for you to lose now, I’m better than you.
“He has a good jab and good power. I need to be aware that he can punch.
“I have a nutritionist that I see every three weeks. I couldn’t make weight when I was going to fight Andre Ward. Making weight takes a lot of dedication.
“Going into my fight with Andre Ward, my mentality was changed. You already lost to the scale before you even stepped in the ring. It’s your body telling you that you can’t make weight, you can’t do it anymore. It does bother you.
“I refuse to blame my loss on anything. I think he was a better fighter that night. I’m trying to make my mark at 175 and maybe down the road, I can get a rematch against him.”
MICHAEL SEALS
“Fighting so close to home means everything to me. This is the biggest fight of my career and I’m going to take advantage of this opportunity.
“My whole life, I feel like I’ve been destined for greatness and this is my chance.
“I remember coming to the Beau Rivage as a kid with my dad and I would look at this big building and tell him that I was going to stay in a room here when I grew up and now my name is on the marquee. Its a dream come true.
“Edwin is an experienced fighter. He’s fought some great opposition but he has a loss on his record. I do not and its going to stay that way on November 13.
“I train smart. I have a degree in physical education which has taught me some different training techniques that you can’t learn in a gym.
“A win on Friday means another step toward a world title shot. That is the goal. To fight for a world title and I have to beat Edwin Rodriguez to get it. He is standing in my way.
“I got my ring name ‘Cannonhandz’ as an amateur when I started boxing at a community center and there were a lot of little kids there. They would hear me hit the mitts or the bag and say ‘When you punch, it sounds like there are cannons shooting out of your gloves,’ and it has stuck ever since.
“I can’t wait for Friday night. This is my chance and to be able to keep my undefeated record and take down someone with a known name in the sport so close to my hometown of Mobile is a blessing.”

An undefeated fighter from Michoacan, Mexico, but fighting out of Houston, Flores has not lost since turning pro in 2009 at just 17-years-old. The 23-year-old made his 2015 debut in May with a victory over German Meraz and followed that up by defeating Juan Ruiz in July and Carlos Padilla in September. He goes for a fourth victory of 2015 on November 10 when he battles the experienced Tetteh who represented Ghana at the 1996 Olympics and now fights out of Washington, D.C.

AUSTIN, TX (November 8, 2015) – Undefeated super-featherweight sensation, Mario Barrios (12-0, 7 KOs), has an opponent named for his upcoming bout thisTuesday November 10, 2015 at the Austin City Music Hall in Austin, Texas.  Barrios, who’ll be making his Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on Fox Sports 1 debut, steps in the ring with Enrique Tinoco (15-2-2, 11 KOs), his toughest test as a professional fighter.
Riding a 4-fight winning streak, all coming by way of knockout, Tinoco is a major step up in class for Barrios.  Tinoco has victories over three undefeated fighters, two of which had 14-0 records.  With a tough test ahead of him, Barrios give his thoughts on his matchup with Tinoco.

WALTER CASTILLO & KEITA OBARA FIGHT TO MAJORITY DRAW IN
ACTION-PACKED CO-MAIN EVENT

MIAMI (November 7, 2015) – Kevin Bizier (25-2, 17 KOs) stopped Fredrick Lawson(24-1, 20 KOs) after 10-rounds of toe-to-toe action on Premier Boxing Champions(PBC) on NBCSN on Saturday night from Miccosukee Resort and Gaming in Miami.
Lawson’s corner stopped the fight after the tenth round as Lawson indicated that his jaw may have been broken. Bizier pressured Lawson throughout the fight and hurt him with powerful right hands.
In the fifth round, Bizier landed one of those powerful rights perfectly on Lawson’s head and sent the previously unbeaten fighter to the canvas. Making his U.S. debut, Bizier wore Lawson down and never allowed his opponent to get into a rhythm.
In the co-main event, Nicaragua’s Walter Castillo (26-3-1, 19 KOs) and Keita Obara(14-1-1, 13 KOs) fought to a majority draw in a back and forth battle that appeared to have been won by Japan’s Obara.
Making his U.S. debut, Obara used his length and numerous well-timed right hands to stifle the attack of the aggressive Castillo. The Nicaraguan Castillo came out of the gate with a strong second round when he hurt Obara on the ropes with multiple flurries.
Obara appeared to be the fresher fighter in the later rounds and threw sharp punches while controlling the fight with his movement. Castillo was able to send Obara into retreat mode at moments late in the fight with his all-out barrages, but still took plenty of punishment for his efforts.
Castillo was bleeding from his eye, mouth and ear at different moments throughout the 12-round affair. The final judges totals were 115-113 for Obara and 114-114 twice.

KEVIN BIZIER
“My plan was to stay close, not let him breathe and it worked. I put too much pressure on him.
“I was surprised. He’s not a puncher like his record would indicate. He hit me well, but never hurt me. I never felt tired or any pain. In the tenth round I was still very strong.
“He was starting the rounds strong but he would fade by the end of the round and that’s when I would come on”
FREDRICK LAWSON
Fredrick Lawson did not comment due to injured jaw.
WALTER CASTILLO
“The fight was a very good, strong fight. I respect the decision of the judges. I fought my best.
“The eye did affect my vision. As soon as I got hit, everything went blurry. My corner did a good job to get me through the 12 rounds. I gave it my all, but the eye did hamper the things I was trying to do.
“I would definitely fight him again. I would like to have a final decision over who the winner was. If he will fight, I would love to.”
KEITA OBARA
“It’s my fault for not knocking him out. I don’t agree with the decision, but it’s my fault in the end because he was still there at the end of 12 rounds.
“I landed good punches on him, but none were knockout punches. I knew to beat him here I would need to get the knockout and I did not get it.
“It was really fun and exciting to fight in U.S. Before the decision was read I was having the time of my life. Now I’m disappointed in the decision.
“I would fight him again if the arrangement were made.”

PBC on NBC will feature a stacked tripleheader of action featuring multiple exciting heavyweight showdowns. Figueroa made his 140-pound debut on May 9 when he took down former world champion Ricky Burns in a scintillating toe-to-toe battle that featured great action throughout. The 25-year-old won a 135-pound world title in 2013 when he outslugged Nihito Arakawa in a brutal “Fight of the Year” battle before defending his title against Jerry Belmontes and Daniel Estrada. Born in Weslaco, Texas, he is looking to continue his impressive rise to the top of the 140-pound division.
A former world champion in the lightweight division, the 29-year-old DeMarcosteps back into the ring in San Antonio on December 12. Fighting out of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico, he owns victories over John Molina Jr. and Jorge Linares. He looks to take advantage of another shot at one of the best in the game as he takes on the undefeated Figueroa.
Since representing the U.S. at the 2012 Olympics, Breazealehas been nearly perfect in recording knockouts as a pro, having only gone the distance in two fights, including his last contest which saw him defeat the very difficult Fred Kassi in another primetime NBC battle. The 30-year-old played quarterback at the University of Northern Colorado before he began boxing and looks to keep his undefeated record intact on December 12 when he faces the toughest challenge of his career in a fellow undefeated American. In 2015 the Glendale, California native recorded stoppages over Victor Brisbal and Yasmany Consuegra before taking down Kassi.
Born in St. Louis, Missouri, but fighting out of Carson, California, Martin has stopped his last 11 opponents within the distance. The 29-year-old who stopped Vicente Sandez in September, looks to remain undefeated against Breazeale.
Making his first appearance in San Antonio, Arreola will fight in front of the passionate Texas boxing fans for the second straight time after earning a draw against Fred Kassi onJuly 18 in El Paso. On March 13 he was victorious against Curtis Harper in an outstanding slugfest that featured excellent back-and-forth action throughout. A native of Riverside, Calif., Arreola has challenged the top heavyweights over the last decade and is regarded as one of the most feared punchers in the division.  
An experienced fighter with a family history in the sport, the 30-year-old Kauffman steps up and faces the most threatening opponent of his career on December 12. Kauffman won the first 18 fights of his career after turning pro in 2006.

Middleweight Prospect Caleb Plant Remains Unbeaten With Unanimous Decision Victory

HOUSTON, TX (November 2, 2015) – This past Saturday at the NRG Arena in Houston, Texas, middleweight prospect, Caleb “Sweet-Hands” Plant (11-0, 8 KOs), remained undefeated, winning by way of a unanimous decision against his toughest opponent to date in Tyrone Brunson (22-6, 21 KOs).
In the early rounds Plant used an educated jab to offset the power punches that Brunson was trying to land.  As the fight went on, Caleb continued to apply pressure with the jab and started to land his overhand right.  Brunson, who was backing up most of the fight, had no answer to the technical boxing skills that Plant was displaying.  Caleb showed elusive defense throughout the fight when Brunson, who had a reach advantage, tried to land his combinations. Plant, who dominated in punches landed, won by an impressive unanimous decision.  Scorecards read 79-73 twice and 78-74.
With the victory, Plant is on the fast track to becoming a household name in the middleweight division.  As 2015 approaches the end, Caleb feels he’s right on pace to accomplish his goal of becoming a world champion.
“Everything is going as planned and I felt I showed a lot of maturity against Brunson,” said Tennessee native Caleb Plant. “Every fight is getting me ready for the next level.  As I step up in competition, I see myself going the distance more often.  It’s a good thing because you never want to rely on your power to win fights.  Although most of my wins have come by knockout, I’m more confident in my ability to box my way to a victory if I have to.  With another year or so under my belt, I’ll feel I’ll be ready to challenge anyone in the middleweight division.”

HOUSTON (November 1, 2015) – The Halloween night broadcast of Premier Boxing Champions on NBCSN took Houston’s NRG Arena by storm as undefeated rising starJermell “Iron Man” Charlo (27-0, 12 KOs) dominated former world champion Joachim Alcine (35-8-2, 21 KOs) in the main event by sixth round knockout.
Televised coverage kicked off with a thrilling showdown as Tony Harrison (22-1, 18 KOs) got the unanimous decision over Cecil McCalla (20-3, 7 KOs).
The final televised fight of the evening saw undefeated middleweight prospect Caleb “Sweet Hands” Plant (12-0, 8 KOs) capture a unanimous decision over Tyrone Bruson (22-6-1, 21 KOs).
Here is what the televised fighters had to say about their performances tonight:
JERMELL CHARLO
“I established my jab early, and once I was comfortable with my jab the right hand started landing.
“I wanted to load up and show that I have power. I knew I was getting to him and wearing him down. It felt great to get the knockout.
“I knew after the knockdown in the sixth round it was over, but he was a strong fighter.
“Fighting in front of my hometown crowd fueled me. It gave me energy.
“I’m a completely different fighter now with my new trainer. My brother noticed it too and told me the same thing.
“I’m getting older, better, wiser and improving with every fight. Everything people saw tonight is a product of hard work in training.
“Hopefully I can fight again in December, and I want John Jackson next.”
JOACHIM ALCINE
“My right hand was working well for me, but I stopped throwing it and started focusing too much on my jab.
“I didn’t fight for a year and a half, and then I jumped right into the ring with a hungry, young lion. I wanted the fight, but sometimes pride takes its’ toll.
“Fighting on a PBC card gave me a big opportunity to show the world what I can do. But (Charlo) was stronger than I thought he’d be.
“I don’t know what’s next. I’ll talk with my wife first. I still have a strong desire to get in the ring, but I’m 39 now. My health is very important to me. I want to be there for my family and my daughter. So we’ll have to wait and see.”
TONY HARRISON
“I wanted to stay focused and get in my rhythm. The whole point is to hit and not get hit, and I thought I did a great job of that through eight rounds. I just need to stay focused for the whole fight.
“I got kind of careless in the ninth round and the same thing happened tonight that happened against Willie Nelson, but thankfully I had the experience this time to pull it out.
“I wanted to show the fans that I can take a punch, and I definitely showed that tonight.
“I’m back! Next time I want to fight someone that’s a little more offensive. (McCalla) was throwing so few punches that it was actually hard to get down the timing against him.
“I’d love to fight back home in Detroit next, and I’d like to face the winner of tonight’s main event. I’m ready. I also want Willie Nelson again though. If he can do it twice he’ll make me a believer.”
CECIL MCCALLA
“I kept looking for the right moment. I came into the fight trying to outwork him, but I just couldn’t pull it off.
“When I caught him with the overhand right I wanted the knockout, but it didn’t come.
“Harrison’s jab played the biggest part in him getting the win tonight.
“I want another opportunity as soon as possible and I’ll make sure to make the most of it.
“I want to fight Ishe (Smith) again.”
CALEB PLANT
“The plan tonight was to stay composed and relaxed. I was doubling up my jab and landing combinations up and down his body all fight.
“I saw him start to break down after the second and third rounds, but I didn’t want to push too hard. Instead I wanted to stay in control, take him into deep waters, and dominate the fight. That’s what I did.
“I’d love to fight again this year, maybe in late December. I’m not taking any punishment, and we’re always staying in shape and ready. So as long as I’m healthy I’ll fight as often as I can against whoever they put in front of me.”
TYRONE BRUNSON
“I thought my power was working well for me tonight. My corner was telling me to throw the left to the body and it was landing.
“Caleb caught me once in my left eye in the third round and he had me seeing double for a little while, but it didn’t last beyond that round.
“I’m naturally a junior middleweight. That’s where I’m most comfortable. I can compete against anyone at 154 lbs.”

ORLANDO (October 31, 2015) – Malik “King” Scott (38-2-1, 13 KOs) won a heavyweight showdown with Tony “The Tiger” Thompson (40-6, 27 KOs) on Premier Boxing Champions: The Next Round on Bounce TV Friday night from The Venue at UCF in Orlando.
Scott controlled most of the action thoughout the 10-round battle using his superior movement to control the pace of the fight. As he has throughout his career, Thompson refused to give in and scored a big knockdown with a thundering right hand in round nine.
The fight would end up going the distance, with all three judges giving the bout to Scott by scores of 98-91, 96-93 and 95-94.
The action continued with the power-punching Sergey Lipinets (8-0, 6 KOs) taking down previously unbeaten Lydell Rhodes (23-1-1, 11 KOs) in a 10-round showdown of unbeaten super lightweights.
Lipinets stalked the athletic-Rhodes early on and wore him down before dominating and nearly-stopping him in the later rounds. Lipinets landed 79 power punches out of 122 landed and his 79 power punches matched Rhodes 79 total punches landed. The final judges tallies were 96-93 and 98-91 twice, all in favor of LIpinets.
The opening televised bout featured a pair of undefeated prospects and saw Samuel “El Macho” Figueroa (10-0, 4 KOs) win a unanimous decision over Javontae Starks (13-1, 7 KOs) in an eight-round welterweight fight.
Figueroa was able to break through the defenses of the much taller Starks and use his awkward southpaw style score with big right hands. “El Macho” out-landed Starks by a total of 132-113 and was rewarded by the judges with scores of 78-74 and 77-75 twice in his favor.
Additional undercard action saw a rising super lightweight star in Gervonta “Tank” Davis (13-0, 12 KOs), with promoter Floyd “Money” Mayweather watching ringside, stop former world champion Cristobal Cruz (40-19-4, 24 KOs) in the third round.
Davis sent Cruz to the canvas in round one with a straight left-right hook combo and followed that up with an uppercut that put Cruz down again and caused the referee to stop the fight 1:31 into round three.

MALIK SCOTT
“My skill set was good, but this is one of those tapes I will hate to look at when I get home. Tony got away with a lot. I was making him miss and not making him pay. But let’s not forget I haven’t fought for a whole year. I have to get more active, so after this fight, we’ll see what’s next. I’m never satisfied with my performances, but that’s what keeps me going.
“I was hurt in the ninth, definitely. But I’m in great shape and I wasn’t worried about it. I got through it and let him know he’d have to do it again to win this fight.
“Tony’s legs are very slow, so I was just losing him with the feet all night long.”
TONY THOMPSON
“He was just too fast. If I were younger I would have caught him. A prime Tony would have kicked his ass, but I’m 44 and the years are starting to pile up.
“Malik did a great job of staying away until I was able to catch him with one good shot. He just pitty-patted his way to victory.
“I would rate my performance a D at best. I was the aggressor but I didn’t cut him off good enough until late in the fight. My coach kept telling me to go to the right but for whatever reason I only started going to the right late in the fight. That was when I caught him.
“It was an outstanding performance by Malik. He did what he’s supposed to do to an older fighter.”
SERGEY LIPINETS
“He ran too much. He didn’t want to fight. It’s very difficult to fight someone who doesn’t really want to fight.
“I had him hurt in the eighth, ninth and tenth rounds. Definitely. I was hurting him with every punch, but he was holding so much it wasn’t easy to finish him off. Plus he takes a good punch.
“I learned to put more combinations together. I came to fight, not run.
“He thinks he won the fight? He’s the only one in the whole arena. I won every round. They gave him a few rounds. He should be happy about that.”
LYDELL RHODES
“The judging is what went wrong. I won this fight. I felt I controlled most of the fight until the last couple rounds.
“He came on strong in the later rounds. He caught me in the seventh, eighth and ninth rounds, but I controlled the first six.
“He wasn’t that strong. He had good pressure, but I was never hurt in the fight.
“I know I won this fight.”
SAMUEL FIGUEROA
“I worked hard training for this fight. The sparring in camp was outstanding. I was in great condition for this fight.
“I knew Javontae was a great fighter, but I was prepared for him. He hit me a lot but I was in too good of shape to be hurt.
“I’m so thankful for this opportunity. I appreciate it. Prichard Colon this was for you.”
JAVONTAE STARKS
“It was my fault for leaving it to the judges. I feel like I could have done a lot more.
“A unanimous decision is a little tough to take. I gave a lot of rounds away. I need to be busier next time. It was a learning experience.
“It takes character to come back from a loss and I will come back better than ever.”
GERVONTA DAVIS
“I did well. I need to work on some things. I listened to my corner and to Floyd, I’m thankful for everyone who got me prepared.
“We’ll get right back into the ring and continue to get better.”
FLOYD MAYWEATHER
“Gervonta is a young kid from Baltimore who comes from a rough background like myself. He works hard and is dedicated to the sport of boxing.
