CANCUN, Mexico (July 6 2017) – The third installment of the 2017 “Cancun Boxing” series, presented by Pepe Gomez Boxing in association with Neon Star Sports & Entertainment, will air this Saturday night (July 7) in North America, ukuqala at 8 p.m. KANYE / 5 p.m. PT, kwinethiwekhi yezemidlalo ye-CBS. Former IBF/WBO Minimumweight World Champion Francisco “Chihuas” Rodriguez, Jr. (22-4-1, 14 Kos) fought late replacement Rolando “El Duende” Gusman (15-3, 9 Kos), ye-Argentina, in the 12-round WBC Flyweight World Title Eliminator. Rodriguez’ Umphikisi original, “Lil” Iscar cantú (14-1, 1 KO), was injured in a car accident only days before the scheduled event.
Rodriguez, 23, won his first world title in 2014, stopping previously unbeaten Merlito Sabillo (23-0-1), the defending WBO minimumweight title fight in Mexico, in the 10thround. Later that same year, Rodriguez successfully defended his WBO crown with a 12-round unanimous decision over IBF minimumweight title holder Katsunari Takayama (27-6) to become unified world champion. Rodriguez vacated both titles in late 2014.
The 23-year-old Rodriguez unsuccessfully challenged WBA Light Flyweight World Champion UDonnie Nietes (35-1-4), the reigning IBF flyweight world champion, dropping a 12-round unanimous decision.

Las Vegas (December 17, 2016) – Tonight’s final round of the 2016 “Knockout Night at the D” series ended in typical style as “Mighty” Aston Palicte won a 10-round split decision over previously undefeated “Lil'” Iscar cantú in a terrific super flyweight match from start to finish inside the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center indoor facility.
The “Knockout Night at the D” series, presented by D Las Vegasand Down town Las Vegas Events Center, was promoted by Roy Jones Jr. (RJJ) Boxing Promotions. This evening’s seventh and final “Knockout at the D” event in 2016 aired live on CBS Sports Network and streamed worldwide on FloBoxing.tv
The Palicte vs. Cantu main event, as expected, was a classic match-up of contrasting styles between a dangerous puncher (Palicte) and consummate boxer (Cantu). There was surprising non-stop action from the opening bell. Power punching Palicte (22-2, 18 Kos) pressed the action as the clear aggressor, but Cantu stood in the pocket, too, as the technician used his defensive skills to make things difficult for his world rated Filipino opponent.
Ekugcineni, it all came down to the 10th round, which Palicte swept on all three judges’ scorecards for a hard-fought split decision victory by scores of 98-92, 96-94, 94-96. Palicte, No ukalwe. 11 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF) futhi No. 15 by the World Boxing Organization (WBO), took Cantu’s North American Boxing Federation (UNabf) title belt in addition to capturing the vacant WBO Inter-Continental strap.
Cantu, ngubani ilinganiselwe No. 4 as a flyweight by the World Boxing Council (WBC), showed tremendous heart, granite chin and the ability to move extremely well, throwing punches from every conceivable angle. The difference, Nokho, proved to be Palicte’s slugging ability in this classic confrontation in which the puncher barely prevailed against the boxer.
In the co-feature, Jamaican junior middleweight Nathaniel “No Problem” Gallimore(16-1-1, 13 Kos) scored a spectacular first-round knockout of previously unbeaten Angelo “Bombardero” Baez (15-1-1, 11 Kos), the Chilean junior middleweight champion.
Gallimore hurt Baez midway through the opening round and then closed the show with vicious left to the liver that dropped Baez to his knees. In obvious pain, he was unable to get to his feet before the 10 count.
Galiimore (pictured above in green), who fights out of Chicago, dedicated the fight to his stablemate, the late Ed Brown (20-0), who was murdered earlier this month. “I saw a tape of him (Baez) and knew he backed up to the ropes,” Gallimore explained the finish. “I practiced that shot in the gym and I’m very happy with the outcome. I told all my teammates back in Chicago that I was dedicating this fight to Ed Brown.”
Los Angeles junior middleweight UFlavio Rodriguez (6-0, 5 Kos) kept his undefeated record intact against previously unbeaten Mexican fighter Dilan “El Tremendo” Loza(5-1, 3 Kos) in the television opener. Rodriguez, who one point during his 4 1/2-year hiatus from the ring weighed 90 pounds more than he entered the ring tonight, won by way of a third-round technical knockout. Loza was hurt by an accidental shot to the base of his head in the third and he was later dropped in the same round by the heavy-handed Rodriguez. Referee Jay Nady halted the bout after the third round.

“Ngokwengxenye enkulu,” Rodriguez said, “he didn’t do anything different. I thought I controlled the fight with my jab. My boy, Lion (Santa Cruz, friends from LA), was a world champion and I want to get to his level.”
In a battle of unbeaten welterweight prospects, intandokazi langakubo Jeremy “J-Flash” Nichols (7-0-1, 2 Kos) and San Diego’s Kevin “KO” Ottley (3-0-1) fought to a 6-round draw.

Fast moving Moreno won his eighth fight in nine months, nokuyeka “Imali” Mike Fowler (5-4, 2 Kos) in the round wesine. Moreno improves each fight, showing incredible poise for a 21-year old boxer, and he legitimately rates as a national prospect to watch.

Rated No. 4 by the World Boxing Council (WBC) as a flyweight, the 25-year-old Cantu (14-0, 1 KO) will face the toughest test of his 4+-years professional career in the heavy-handed Palcite, but he’s excited to be headlining this nationally televised show from Las Vegas.
“I feel honored to be headlining a card in Las Vegas,” the Texan said. “The opportunity is what every boxer wants because Vegas is the biggest boxing hum in the United States and it has produced great champions in the past. I want to thank Roy Jones Jr. Boxing Promotions for this opportunity.
“A victory can help me open doors to the world title and allow me the show everybody what I stand for, which is being God’s humble champion. The outcome of this fight will come down to who wants to win more. I’m sure that adjustments will need to be made throughout the fight. Noma kunjalo, I am well prepared to get this victory.”
Palicte (21-2, 18 Kos) is a dangerous Filipino fighter who is world rated at No. 11 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF) futhi No. 15 by the WBO. Now training in Los Angeles, Palicte is looking forward to making his American debut Dec. 17.
“Ngijabulile ngempela,” he remarked. “I’ve been training o hard, pushing myself to the limit, because I also want to excel as much as the other Filipino fighters. I am grateful for this opportunity to fight in the main event. Knowing he is undefeated, this is going to be an exciting, challenging fight.
“I’ve always dreamed of fighting for the world title and I’m taking things one step at a time. Through my promoter, RJJ, it was mentioned that there’s a big possibility for a world title challenge in 2017 if I win this fight. I’ve fought some quality fighters and I think I can do what I want in the ring, though I won’t say it’s going to be easy to control the fight.”
Styles made fights and a classic match-up between a consummate boxer (Cantu) and powerful puncher (Palicte) guarantees an intriguing fight that should be highly entertaining and incredibly competitive. Both fighters also respect each other.
“Palicte brings an impressive record and a lot of experience,” Cantu noted. “The road to a world title is a tough one, which means no easy opponents. I am really excited about this challenge. This is a classic fight because of our styles and I am sure we won’t let the viewing public down. I am ready to become the next great American champion in this weight class.”
“Cantu is a smart boxer,” Palicte added. “I’d compare him to Ismael Garnica, who I fought in our Showdown at Sands in Macau. (Palicte won by way of a seventh-round TKO.) Yena (Cantu) is kind of a runner, too, always moving around the ring, but we can never tell one’s ability until we’ve fought.
“This is going to be an exciting fight. I’m really looking forward to getting a hold of those belts. Cantu is also a good boxer but with my experience and power, I think I have much more advantages than him. I know he’s also doing his best training, kanjalo, it’s going to be a really good fight come December 17th.”

Las Vegas (December 1, 2016) – A super flyweight twin-title fight between undefeated Iscar cantú futhi “Mighty” Aston Palicte headlines the final 2016 installment of the popular “Knockout Night at the D” series ngomgqibelo ebusuku, December 17, angabiki bukhoma (7 p.m. PT / 10 p.m. KANYE) on CBS Sports Network from inside the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center indoor facility, located in the heart of the downtown Las Vegas casino district, one block away from the world famous Fremont Street (200 S. 3rd St.).

FloBoxing.tv will live stream the Dec. 17th “Knockout Night at the D” undercard worldwide, ukuqala at 5 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. KANYE), in addition to three main card TV bouts – excluding North America – isiqala at 7 p.m. PT / 10 p.m. KANYE).
Cantu will defend his North American Boxing Federation (UNabf) super flyweight title against Palicite. The vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) Inter-Continental super flyweight championship will also be contested in the 10-round main event.
“The Cantu-Palicte fight is a classic match-up between a boxer and puncher,” Roy Jones Jr. Boxing Promotions co-founder/CEO Keith Veltre wathi. “It’s for two title belts and the winner will be positioned for a possible world title shot in 2017. Our final event of the year promises to be our best yet with evenly matched, entertaining fights that our ‘Knockout Night at the D’ series is known for with kusasa stars up-and-down the card.”
The “Knockout Night at the D” series, presented by D Las Vegas and Downtown Las Vegas Events Center, is promoted by Roy Jones Jr. (RJJ) Boxing Promotions.
Jim “J.R.” Ross futhi Joey Varner will call the action live from ringside, ngenkathi Jeff Huston will be the ring announcer and fight week master of ceremonies.
The 25-year-old Cantu (14-0, 1 KO), fighting out of Kingsville, Texas, is a pure boxer who is the reigning North American Boxing Federation (UNabf) champion, zibalwa No. 3 by the WBO North American Boxing Organization (NABO) futhi No. 6 by the NABA. He is a belt collector having been the former NABF Junior super flyweight, World Boxing Council (WBC) Youth Intercontinental bantamweight and World Boxing Council (WBC) United States super flyweight title holder.
In fight yakhe yokugcina, this past May at home in Kingsville, Cantu captured the vacant NABF flyweight title with a 10-round split decision victory over Samuel Gutierrez. Cantu’s most notable win to date is a 10-round split decision against previously undefeated Juan Antonio Lopez (10-0) in 2014 for the vacant WBC Youth Intercontinental bantamweight crown.
Palicte, who will be making his US debut Dec. 17 having resettled in Los Angeles, where he’s training at the famed Wild Card Gym, to enhance his boxing career. Palicte has fought only once outside of his native Philippines as a professional. He has an experience advantage over Cantu in terms of fighting higher quality opponents. World rated at No. 11 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF) futhi No. 15 by the WBO, Palicte captured the vacant IBF Pan Pacific super flyweight championship this past June in his most recent fight, nokuyeka Vergilio Silvano (21-6-1) in the seventh round of their rematch, which was also won by Palicte via a 12-round unanimous decision a year ago for the vacant WBO Oriental super flyweight title.
The heavy-handed Palicte, who has knocked out 18 of yakhe 21 victims, is rated No. 5 by the NABF and No. 15 by the NABA. Palicte, 25, also owns his share of title belts, including the IBF Youth super flyweight strap. In Palicte’s only pro fight outside of his native Philippines, he lost a highly disputed 10-round split decision (97-94, 93-97, 94-97) last March to local favorite Junior Granados (14-4-1) e Mexico.
