CANCUN, Meksika (Jolay 6 2017) – The third installment of the 2017 “Cancun Boxing” andian, presented by Pepe Gomez Boxing in association with Neon Star Sports & Entertainment, will air this Saturday night (Jolay 7) in North America, manomboka amin'ny 8 p.m. SY / 5 p.m. PT, on CBS Sports Network. The event took place this past June 3rd at Grand Oasis Cancun the Hotel Complex, Cancun`s ONLY Ultimate All-Inclusive Entertainment Resort, which hosts all series events.

Former IBF/WBO Minimumweight World Champion Francisco “Chihuas” Rodriguez, Jr. (22-4-1, 14 Kos) fought late replacement Rolando “El Duende” Gusman (15-3, 9 Kos), of Argentina, in the 12-round WBC Flyweight World Title Eliminator. Rodriguez’ tany am-boalohany mpanohitra, “Lil” Oscar Cantu (14-1, 1 KO), was injured in a car accident only days before the scheduled event.
Rodriguez, 23, won his first world title in 2014, stopping previously unbeaten Merlito Sabillo (23-0-1), the defending WBO minimumweight title fight in Mexico, ao amin'ny 10faha-manodidina. Later that same year, Rodriguez successfully defended his WBO crown with a 12-round unanimous decision over IBF minimumweight title holder Katsunari Takayama (27-6) to become unified world champion. The 23-year-old Rodriguez unsuccessfully challenged WBA Light Flyweight World Champion Donnie Nietes (35-1-4), the reigning IBF flyweight world champion, dropping a 12-round unanimous decision.

The televised opener is an eight-round, non-title fight between a pair of Mexican lightweights, WBC Latino champion Francisco “Paquito” Rojo (19-2, 12 Kos) and Mexican Pacific Coast titlist Jesosy “Kiligua” Velazco (13-9-2, 5 Kos).

“I just need to stay on path and I will. I’ve been on the top since I started boxing when I was nine. I want to do what other Olympians like (Other) Ward ary (Vasyl) Lomanchenko have done…become world champion!”
The highest-rated flyweight in the world today is 36-year-old Brian Viloria (37-5, 22 Kos), the 4-time, 2-division world champion and 2000 U.S. Olympian. Las Vegas (Desambra 17, 2016) – Tonight’s final round of the 2016 “Knockout Night at the D” series ended in typical style as “Mighty” Aston Palicte won a 10-round split decision over previously undefeated “Lil'” Oscar Cantu in a terrific super flyweight match from start to finish inside the Las Vegas Events afovoan-tanànan'i Center indoor facility.
The “Knockout Night at the D” andian, presented by Las Vegas ny Dand Down town Las Vegas Events Center, was promoted by Roy Jones Jr. (RJJ) Fampiroboroboana ny ady totohondry. This evening’s seventh and final “Knockout at the D” event in 2016 aired live on CBS Sports Network and streamed worldwide on FloBoxing.tv
The Palicte vs. Cantu main event, as expected, was a classic match-up of contrasting styles between a dangerous puncher (Palicte) and consummate boxer (Cantu). There was surprising non-stop action from the opening bell. Power punching Palicte (22-2, 18 Kos) pressed the action as the clear aggressor, but Cantu stood in the pocket, koa, as the technician used his defensive skills to make things difficult for his world rated Filipino opponent.
Farany, it all came down to the 10faha- manodidina, which Palicte swept on all three judges’ scorecards for a hard-fought split decision victory by scores of 98-92, 96-94, 94-96. Palicte, laharana No. 11 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF) ary No. 15 ny World Boxing Fikambanana (WBO), took Cantu’s North American Boxing Federation (NABF) title belt in addition to capturing the vacant WBO Inter-Continental strap.

Galiimore (pictured above in green), who fights out of Chicago, dedicated the fight to his stablemate, tamin'ny faramparan'ireo taona Ed Brown (20-0), who was murdered earlier this month. “I saw a tape of him (Baez) and knew he backed up to the ropes,” Gallimore explained the finish. “I practiced that shot in the gym and I’m very happy with the outcome. I told all my teammates back in Chicago that I was dedicating this fight to Ed Brown.”
Los Angeles junior middleweight Flavio Rodriguez (6-0, 5 Kos) kept his undefeated record intact against previously unbeaten Mexican fighter Dilan “El Tremendo” Loza(5-1, 3 Kos) in the television opener. Rodriguez, who one point during his 4 1/2-year hiatus from the ring weighed 90 pounds more than he entered the ring tonight, won by way of a third-round technical knockout. Loza was hurt by an accidental shot to the base of his head in the third and he was later dropped in the same round by the heavy-handed Rodriguez. Mpitsara Jay Nady halted the bout after the third round.

Cantu vs. Palicte will be contested for two belts as Cantu defends his North American Boxing Federation (NABF) super flyweight championship, in addition to the vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) Inter-Continental super flyweight title.

Palicte (21-2, 18 Kos) is a dangerous Filipino fighter who is world rated at No. 11 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF) ary No. 15 ny WBO. Now training in Los Angeles, Palicte is looking forward to making his American debut Dec. 17.

Styles made fights and a classic match-up between a consummate boxer (Cantu) and powerful puncher (Palicte) guarantees an intriguing fight that should be highly entertaining and incredibly competitive. Both fighters also respect each other.
“Palicte brings an impressive record and a lot of experience,” Cantu noted. “The road to a world title is a tough one, which means no easy opponents. I am really excited about this challenge. “Cantu is a smart boxer,” Palicte added. “I’d compare him to Ismael Garnica, who I fought in our Showdown at Sands in Macau. (Palicte won by way of a seventh-round TKO.) Izy (Cantu) is kind of a runner, koa, always moving around the ring, but we can never tell one’s ability until we’ve fought.

Cantu will defend his North American Boxing Federation (NABF) super flyweight title against Palicite. The vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) Inter-Continental super flyweight championship will also be contested in the 10-round main event.

The 25-year-old Cantu (14-0, 1 KO), fighting out of Kingsville, Texas, is a pure boxer who is the reigning North American Boxing Federation (NABF) tompon-daka, laharana faha No. 3 by the WBO North American Boxing Organization (NABO) ary No. 6 by the NABA. He is a belt collector having been the former NABF Junior super flyweight, World Boxing Filan-kevitra (Kapila bitika) Youth Intercontinental bantamweight and World Boxing Council (Kapila bitika) United States super flyweight title holder.
Amin'ny ady farany, this past May at home in Kingsville, Cantu captured the vacant NABF flyweight title with a 10-round split decision victory over Samuel Gutierrez. Cantu’s most notable win to date is a 10-round split decision against previously undefeated Juan Antonio Lopez (10-0) amin'ny 2014 for the vacant WBC Youth Intercontinental bantamweight crown.
Palicte, who will be making his US debut Dec. 17 having resettled in Los Angeles, where he’s training at the famed Wild Card Gym, to enhance his boxing career. Palicte has fought only once outside of his native Philippines as a professional. He has an experience advantage over Cantu in terms of fighting higher quality opponents. World rated at No. 11 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF) ary No. 15 ny WBO, Palicte captured the vacant IBF Pan Pacific super flyweight championship this past June in his most recent fight, mijanona Vergilio Silvano (21-6-1) in the seventh round of their rematch, which was also won by Palicte via a 12-round unanimous decision a year ago for the vacant WBO Oriental super flyweight title.
The heavy-handed Palicte, who has knocked out 18 ny 21 victims, is rated No. 5 by the NABF and No. 15 by the NABA. Palicte, 25, also owns his share of title belts, including the IBF Youth super flyweight strap. In Palicte’s only pro fight outside of his native Philippines, he lost a highly disputed 10-round split decision (97-94, 93-97, 94-97) last March to local favorite Junior Granados (14-4-1) any Meksika.
