Known throughout boxing for its flashy, totally unique looking boxing “uniforms” – trunks and jackets – that are famously worn by present and past world champions such as דאַני “ביסטרע” גאַרסיאַ, דאַני “Miracle Man” דזשאַקאָבס, פּאַוליע “מאַגיק מענטש” מאַליגנאַגגי and others, Havoc Boxing is also a boxing promotional company on the rise.
While Havoc Boxing may not be a major player, at least not right now, it does feature a growing stable of gifted boxers such as Flores, the former world super featherweight title challenger who many fell deserved a far better fate than his controversial 10-round decision loss (94-96, 91-99, 92-92), which was turned in by the three Puerto Rican judges at ringside.
פלאָווערס (27-3-2, 17 קאָס) was a live underdog who gave prohibitive favorite Verdejo (23-0, 15 קאָס) all he could handle and much more. Verdejo even drew the wrath of his hometown fans for not engaging Flores, who came on strong in the second half of the fight, bloodying the 2012 Puerto Rican Olympian’s nose in the eighth round and seriously hurting him in the 10th. The World Boxing Organization (וובאָ) Latino lightweight champion left the ring at Roberto Clemente Coliseum to a chorus of boos.
Headlines describing the fight used phrases like “escaped with victory” און “struggles to win” to describe Verdejo’s tainted victory. One boxing writer had Flores winning six rounds to four, claiming Verdejo simply didn’t do enough to win any other rounds.
“We’re so proud of Oliver,” Havoc Boxing CEO Rob Diaz האט. “We thought he won the fight but it’s tough fighting a national hero in his backyard with three of his countrymen as judges. Those who made excuses for Verdejo claiming he wasn’t at his best because of his eight-month layoff, we reminded that Oliver hadn’t fought in more than a year because a few fights we had lined up fell out. נאָך דעם קאַמף, so many Puerto Rican fans congratulated us, saying Oliver was robbed, and that he deserved a rematch. In his last fight on New Year’s Eve of 2015, Flores unsuccessfully challenged then-World Boxing Association (וובאַ) Super world super featherweight champion Takashi Uchiyama (23-0-1) אין טאָקיאָ, getting stopped in the third round.
פלאָווערס’ only other pro loss was in 2012 to current WBC super featherweight world champion Miguel Berchelt, while his two draws were both on the road in Mexico and Costa Rica.
פלאָווערס (pictured to right on the scale) is a past WBA Fedebol lightweight title holder, as well as former World Boxing Council (וובק) FECARBOX and International Boxing Federation (יבף) super featherweight champion. He has proven to be a dangerous, upset-minded opponent having defeated previously unbeaten boxers Marcos Mojica (12-0-2), by way of unanimous decision, און Gabriel Dorado (9-0) via a first-round knockout.
A victory over Verdejo should position Flores for another world title shot in the not too distant future.

Oliver Flores: I’m very excited for the opportunity to be fighting for a world title. I’m very grateful to my promoter Havoc Boxing, who came through and put this fight together for me. How special would it be for you if you were to bring the World Championship home to you countrymen of Nicaragua?
Oliver Flores: To bring the title home would be a dream come true for me. I have a lot of support from family and friends that will be looking forward to the outcome. I know I’m the underdog going into this fight but I have a country that will be showing support when I go to battle in Japan. My goal is to follow in the footsteps of Alexis Arguello and Roman Gonzalez, who brought great pride to Nicaragua?
Can you talk about training camp?
Oliver Flores: Training camp has been very demanding. I’m on a strict diet that has me at my optimum best. I’ve had some great sparring here in Nicaragua where I’m working out with a few different guys. Everyone is pushing me to the limit. It’s this type of training camp that’s going to get ready for Uchiyama, who I know is going to be at his best. I’m executing every possible situation that I feel will come up in this fight. I’m ready for battle.
Without giving up your game plan, what do you feel you’ll need to do to come out victorious against Uchiyama?
Oliver Flores: I need to be aware of his powerful right hand power punchers. He also likes to land he left hook to the body, so I need to be ready to counter those punches.
Are you concerned about getting a fair decision in Japan where Uchiyama resides?
Oliver Flores: צי ניט, I believe the WBA judges will be fair. Of course my goal is to end the fight early if possible, to avoid any argument. I know it’s going to be a very difficult task to come out with a victory, but a task I feel I can accomplish.

Olivier Flores: Fighting for Havoc Boxing has been a tremendous blessing to for me and my career. I signed with them in June and shortly after I had a fight in August.
