The high-profile win positioned Ward for what turned out to be his epic Gatti trilogy, while Augustus went on to become one of the most dangerous, upset-minded opponents in boxing. Ward and the third man in the ring that night, Hall of Fame referee Steve Smoger, will host a USA Alumni Association event Tuesday, Hiav txwv. 20 at The Shaskeen Pub & Restaurant (909 Elm St. nyob rau hauv Manchester), pib thaum 6 p.m. THIAB, and attend the following night’s (Hiav txwv. 21) TEB CHAWS USA vs. Ireland Northeast Boxing Tour finale in Manchester.

Anytime I spend time with Micky is enjoyable, nyob rau hauv thiab tawm ntawm lub nplhaib, and we’ve truly formed a bond. I worked six or seven of his fights, including his first in Atlantic City, around the time we were both breaking in. We spend time together every year at the International Boxing Hall of Fame inductions. He’s such a pleasure to be around. He treats people very well. His history in the ring and personality make him a big fan favorite. He’s the same guy he’s always been but he still has the heart of a warrior.

“Nyob rau ntawm lub kawg ntawm lub hnub,” the 54-year-old Walsh admitted, “it is an unusual situation for me. But I’ve been coaching here two years and Team USA is my team now. I didn’t come here for just a few years. When I eventually leave, Team USA will have developed continuity and a solid program.
I am a true Irishman who developed through a system that won multiple titles and I was the Irish Team captain for five years. I’m helping develop strong relations between USA and Ireland that can help both programs. Ireland has been among the best of the worldamazing considering the geographical size of Irelandwith its fightersgreat hearts along with their technique and skill. There’s a lot of talent and resources in the states, but amateur boxers have been taught to develop skills more for professional boxing. Here there is a variety of different ethnic groups: Mexicans, African-American and Caucasians, heev. It’s truly a melting pot and each has a unique style of boxing. We are now providing coaching education for US programs to be sustainable long term.
Boston, ntawm chav kawm, is known for being Irish friendly, to say the least. The Mayor of Boston, for example, yog Marty Walsh. Coach Walsh has only been in Boston once, 10 years ago with his wife for a short holiday.
I didn’t do or get to see too much,” Walsh added. “but I know that there’s a lot of Irish history in Boston. Boston is a home away from home for the Irish. I have some friends and family there. I even joke that the mayor is my cousin. I understand that there are a lot of Irish in Springfield and Manchester, raws li zoo. I’m looking forward to going to all three cities on this tour.

An International Boxing Hall of Famer, Sullivan won 38 ntawm 38 pro sib ntaus, 30 coming by knockout, with only one loss and two draws.
Another Hall-of-Famer from that era, Jake Kilrain (29-5-8, 17 Kos), lived in Somerville and Quincy, both Boston suburbs. Kilrain (1829-1899) also reigned as world heavyweight champion.
Irish boxers from Greater Boston continued this rich tradition through the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries with world champions and top contenders such as welterweight Paddy Duffy (31-3,16, 18 Kos), Lawrence welterweight Mike Glover(Cavanaugh – 30-5-5, 16 Kos), and Charlestown welterweight Mike “TwinSullivan(28-6-16, 17 Kos), and Newton bantamweight Jimmy Walsh (33-10-20, 14 Kos)
In the 1950’s, Woburn lightweight “Irish” Tommy Collins (61-12, 44 Kos) was dropped 10 times at the Boston Garden by world champion Jimmy Carter, until he finally succumbed in the fourth round. His gutsy performance, Txawm li cas los, earned him an appearance on the popular Ed Sullivan Show.

Valenzuela spent most of the time on the ropes, while Rivera teed-off on him, until a beautiful placed left hook by Rivera decked Valenzuela, who failed to get up until after referee Mike Ryan completed the 10-count.
A busload of Rivera’s fans drove five hours from Hartford through a snowstorm, arriving just before Rivera entered the ring. “That means a lot to me,” Rivera smiled as he spoke about his fans. “We’re more than a gym, peb nyob nraum tsev neeg.
I was so used to an amateur style but now I’m a pro. I’m relaxing and picking my punches. Tom ntej no, I want to win the New England title. It’s vacant and I want it!”
This was our first show in New Hampshire and I consider it a success,” co-promoter Chuck Shearns hais tias, “despite some things going against us like tonight’s weather. We’re grateful for the support we received from Hampton, New Hampshire, the commission and local businesses. They worked with us and we can’t wait to return.
The son and nephew of multiple-time world kickboxing championsfather Tommy and uncleworked his cornerPeabody, MA Russell Kimber had a promising pro debut against tough Nathan Schulte in a match contested at a 185-pound catchweight. The 32-year-old Kimber, who was the crowd favorite having lived several years in New Hampshire, overcame the determined Schulte for a hard-fought victory by way of a four-round majority decision.
I was a little nervous with this being my first time in a pro ring,” Kimber admitted after his fight. “I hadn’t been in a ring for 1 ½ years and there was some ring rust. Tam sim no, I know what I need to good, and I’ll be a lot better next fight. This was my first camp and I’ve learned a lot. I’d like to stay busy, come back in late January, early February.
Undefeated Whitman, MA junior welterweight prospect Mike “Bad ManOhan, Jr.charged across the ring, unloading a powerful right that immediately sent Bardraiel Smith to the canvas. The only New Hampshire native on the card, Claremont junior middleweight Ricky Ford(1-1-1) won his first pro fight, taking a lop-sided, four-round unanimous decision over pro MMA fighter Andy Aiello, who made his pro boxing debut.

Del Valle to meet Crespo April 9!

ODV.jpg

Bayamon, PR (Plaub Hlis Ntuj 1, 2016) – Super bantamweight contender Luis “Orlandito” Del Valle returns to the ring on Saturday, Plaub Hlis Ntuj 9 to face New England titlist Josh Crespo in an eight round bout at Rockingham Park in Salem, NH.

Daim pib los ntawm $35 are on sale by calling 860-982-2532 los yog 603-898-2311.

A blood and guts warrior who gives fans their monies worth every time he enters the squared circle, Del Valle has an outstanding 20-2 cov ntaub ntawv nrog 15 yeej los ntawm knockout. Nyob rau hauv Kaum ib hlis 2015, the Bayamon native stopped 50-plus fight veteran Jose Juan Beltran after two rounds in Comerio, Puerto Rico. Currently signed to an exclusive promotional contract with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Sports, Del Valle has his sights set on another big fight but first must conquer the task at hand.

Born and raised in New Haven, I, Crespo is riding a wave of confidence having defeated Jorge Abiague (9-1) for the New England super bantamweight championship last November. Crespo’s professional ledger is a deceptive 6-2-3 nrog 2 KO’s but he’s unbeaten in his last five, facing two undefeated fighters in the process.

If victorious, Del Valle is expected to appear in a televised bout in the immediate future. While some potentially view this fight as a given for Del Valle prior to bigger and better things, the 29-year-old knows that records don’t tell the whole story and Crespo’s hunger can’t be overlooked.

“I’ve got big plans but that all goes out the window if I don’t do what I have to against Crespo,” Del Valle said from his training camp in Puerto Rico. “Anybody who really knows boxing understands that a record doesn’t determine how good a fighter is. I’ve seen Crespo before. He’s tough and willing to take on anybody which is evident by the fact that he’s facing me rather than a lesser opponent. I’m training like I’m the underdog since this fight is close to his hometown and I’ve got a lot on the line.”

Fans can interact with Del Valle on Twitter @Orlanditoboxing or via Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/Orlandito-Del-Valle-111406195543360
