Dean Fay, the Central City Boxing and Barbell Gym Founder & Διευθυντής, has helped develop the Western New England Golden Gloves franchise into the preeminent power in the six-state region, capturing numerous individual All-New England titles and five consecutive team championships.

Fay is a Springfield police officer who started his program 10 χρόνια πριν, last year moving into Central City Boxing and Barbell Gym, primarily to keep kids off the street, teaching them values to become productive citizens.
“Our program, πρώτα, is youth development and second, πυγμαχία,” Fay explained. “We use boxing as a vehicle for valuable teaching lessons, embodying the same values of boxing: competition, cohesiveness and integrity. Springfield has had a long history in boxing. The Golden Gloves were held in Holyoke, one city over from Springfield, για 50 years before coming here. Golden Gloves has funded a lot of small gyms because many of these kids can’t afford fees. We’ve bridged the gap by hosting shows that raises money and creates fanbases.

“I was fortunate to be part of USA Boxing,” Rivera said. “Gaining experience in amateur boxing helped mold me as a person and give me confidence to pursue my dream of becoming world champion as a professional. I started boxing in Springfield when I was 15, before moving to Worcester (ΜΑ), becoming part of Carlo Garcia‘s growing stable of national and regional champions.”
The three-city boxing tour kicks off at Boston’s Royale Entertainment Complex on Μάρτιος 12 and closes Θάλασσα. 21 at the Manchester Downtown Hotel in Manchester, N.H. A full roster for both teams will soon be released.

“Granite Chin is excited to be back in New Hampshire,” co-promoter Chuck Shearns είπε. “The town of Derry and the local businesses have already started to support the event. We are looking forward to having professional boxing in the area. Some of the fighters on the show gave us some great fights last time around and we certainly expect more on this show.”
Former New England junior middleweight champion Derek “The Surgeon” Silveira (13-2, 7 KOs), of Salem, ΜΑ, headlines in a 10-round match.
New England cruiserweight champion Chris Traietti, an Iraq War veteran from Quincy, ΜΑ, will headline the event in a non-title, eight-round co-featured event. Traietti is also the co-promoter of “Fight Night at The Zone.”
Dorchester, MA lightweight Gabriel Duluc (11-2, 3 KOs) will be showcased in an eight-round fight. Undefeated UBF New England cruiserweight champion Richie “Popeye ο ναυτικός Man” Ριβέρα (6-0, 5 KOs), of Hartford, CT, returns to N.H. in a six-rounder, as does New Jersey middleweight Chris “Sandman” Θωμάς (7-0-1, 4 KOs).

The Boston stop, which is being presented by Budweiser, have general admission tickets for $20.00 and a limited amount of $30.00 reserved tickets on sale and are available to purchase online here.
Πτέρυγα, 52, is the pride of Lowell, Μασαχουσέτη, where he is a living legend. A three-time New England Golden Gloves champion as an amateur boxer, Ward fought professionally between 1985-2003, registering a 38-13 (27 KOs) record as a junior welterweight throughout his pro career. He is best known for his epic trilogy with the late Arturo Gatti, in which he became the first fighter with double-digit losses to earn a $1-million purse (δυο φορές).
An all-action, crowed-pleasing fighter, Ward was involved in three Fight of the Year honors, the first and third of the Gatti trilogy, along with a memorable match with Emanuel Augustus. Ward was the winner in two (first Gatti and Augustus) of those classic fights.
Boston-native Mark Wahlberg portrayed Ward in, Ο πολεμιστής, a movie about Micky’s life that won two Academy Awards.
“To be honorary captain of Team USA means a lot to me,” Ward said. “It’s great having elite amateur boxing back in Boston with the national teams from the United States and Ireland. It’s especially exciting for me as an Irish-American.”

I’m not sure how many of them remember me as the man who beat Tyson. I know some of the Irish coaches and I still support boxing in Ireland as well as America. I just love boxing. And it’s always a pleasure to be with my friend, Micky Ward. He’s a good lad.”

“I am a true Irishman who developed through a system that won multiple titles and I was the Irish Team captain for five years. I’m helping develop strong relations between USA and Ireland that can help both programs. Ireland has been among the best of the world – amazing considering the geographical size of Ireland — with its fighters’ great hearts along with their technique and skill. There’s a lot of talent and resources in the states, but amateur boxers have been taught to develop skills more for professional boxing. Here there is a variety of different ethnic groups: Mexicans, African-American and Caucasians, πάρα πολύ. It’s truly a melting pot and each has a unique style of boxing. We are now providing coaching education for US programs to be sustainable long term.”

The tradition started back in the 19ου century with “The Boston Strongboy,” Γιάννης. L. Irish boxers from Greater Boston continued this rich tradition through the end of the 19ου and beginning of the 20ου centuries with world champions and top contenders such as welterweight Paddy Duffy (31-3,16, 18 KOs), Lawrence welterweight Mike Glover(Cavanaugh – 30-5-5, 16 KOs), and Charlestown welterweight Μικρόφωνο “Twin” Sullivan(28-6-16, 17 KOs), and Newton bantamweight Jimmy Walsh (33-10-20, 14 KOs)
In the 1950’s, Woburn lightweight “Ιρλανδικός” Tommy Collins (61-12, 44 KOs) was dropped 10 times at the Boston Garden by world champion Τζίμι Κάρτερ, until he finally succumbed in the fourth round. His gutsy performance, ωστόσο, earned him an appearance on the popular Ed Sullivan Show.
Arlington heavyweight Τομ McNeeley (37-14, 28 KOs), unsuccessfully fought for the world title in 1961, stopped in the fourth round of his Toronto fight versus defending champion Floyd Patterson, and McNeeley’s son, Boston-native and later Medfield resident Πέτρος “Τυφώνας” McNeeley (47-7, 30 KOs) famously was stopped in the opening round by “Σίδερο” Mike Tyson in the latter’s first fight after his release from prison.
In the 1980’s, Irish boxers made their way to Boston to fight; some returned home after their careers, others relocated in the area. Collins’ younger brother, Packie Collins, also moved to Brockton to fight. He later worked with Irish heavyweight champion Kevin “The Clones Colossus” McBride (35-10-1, 29 KOs), who went on to knock Tyson out and into retirement. McBride, who still lives in Dorchester, was a stablemate of former Team Ireland head coach and current Team USA head coach, Billy Walsh, at the European Games. Another Ireland Olympian, Wayne “Pocket Rocket” McCullough (27-7, 18 KOs), moved to Las Vegas from Northern Ireland. The luck of the Irish wasn’t with him in Boston in 1997, when he lost his World Boxing Council (WBC) bantamweight title at Hynes Convention Center, by way of a 12-round split decision to Ντάνιελ Σαραγόσα.
Arguably the most famous and popular Irish-American boxer, outside of Sullivan and Jack Dempsey, is Lowell junior welterweight “Ιρλανδικός” Micky Ward (38-13, 27 KOs), who was involved in three Fight of the Year award winners, two from his epic trilogy with Arturo Gatti, and the first boxer with more than 10 career losses to earn a $1-million purse. Ward’s life was portrayed by another Boston icon, actor Mark Wahlberg, in the award-winning movie, “The Fighter.”
Irish boxers are still coming to Boston to fight. Locally-based Murphys Boxing has promoted numerous shows in Boston featuring world-class boxers such as Gary “Spike” O'Sullivan and undefeated super bantamweight TJ “Ισχύς” Doheny (18-0, 13 KOs), as well as undefeated rising stars such as “Sting” Ray Mayotte and New England & Massachusetts heavyweight champion Νιαλ Κένεντι (10-0, 6 KOs).
The Irish team will announce its boxers later this month after the conclusion of its National Championships.

Η αμερικανική αντιπροσωπεία θα ηγηθεί ο Head Coach Billy Walsh (Κολοράντο Σπρινγκς, CO), ο οποίος εκπροσώπησε την Ελλάδα κατά τη 1988 Ολυμπιακοί Αγώνες πριν γίνει ο επικεφαλής του ιρλανδικού προγράμματος μποξ για πάνω από 10 χρόνια.
Θόλος ρόστερ ομάδα των ΗΠΑ θα είναι 2017 Παγκόσμιο Πρωτάθλημα χάλκινο μετάλλιο Τροία Isley (Αλεξανδρεία, VA). Η ομάδα των ΗΠΑ Boxing θα περιλαμβάνει επίσης μια σειρά από up-and-ελθόντες όπως 2016 Παγκόσμιος Πρωταθλητής Νέων marc Κάστρο (Φρέσνο, ΟΠΩΣ), ο οποίος έχει κάνει το πολυαναμενόμενο διεθνή ελίτ ντεμπούτο του τρέχοντος έτους.
Άλλες Αμερικανού περιλαμβάνουν 2016 Νεολαία Παγκόσμιος Πρωταθλητής και 2017 Elite Ηπειρωτικά Πρωταθλήματα ασημένιο μετάλλιο, Delante Johnson (Κλίβελαντ, ΟΗ), 2017 ΗΠΑ Boxing βαρέων βαρών Εθνικό Πρωταθλητή Jared Άντερσον (Τολέδο, ΟΗ) και 2016 Νεολαία Παγκόσμιο Πρωτάθλημα χάλκινο μετάλλιο και 2017 ΗΠΑ Boxing Σούπερ βαρέων βαρών Εθνικό Πρωταθλητή, Richard Τόρες (Tulare, ΟΠΩΣ). Ένα πλήρες ρόστερ για κάθε πόλη θα κυκλοφορήσει πιο κοντά στην έναρξη της περιοδείας.
Η ιρλανδική ομάδα, η οποία θα είναι υπό την καθοδήγηση του πρώην παγκόσμιος πρωταθλητής και προπονητής Bernard Dunne, θα ανακοινώσει μπόξερ τους μετά το πέρας του Εθνικού Πρωταθλήματος της τον Φεβρουάριο.
