2017 New England Golden Gloves Team Champion – Western New England

LOWELL, Massa. (Marzu 3, 2017) – Western New England won its fourth consecutive New England Tournament of Champions open class team title last night in the grand finale of the 71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship, fl-Awditorju storiku Lowell Memorial.
Western NE had seven individual winners to earn the Bill Hoar Memorial Award as the Most Outstanding Team. Northern New England finished second with three individual winners and Central New England had two.
“Għal darb'oħra,” New England Golden Gloves Direttur Eżekuttiv Bobby Russo qal, “it was a great tournament with so many good, competitive matches. We had the biggest crowd of the season turnout for the finals. The draw was done by computer, so the marches were nice and fair. I really liked the way these boxers were matched. The fans here in Lowell have been appreciated for a long time watching good fights and we plan to keep that rich tradition going.”
Western New England bantamweight Nathan Martinez, who defeated Joseph Valdez on points last night, was named the recipient of the Thomas Costello Memorial Award as the Most Outstanding Boxer.
Norther New England lightweight Liz Leddy won her sixth All-New England title with a close points win over Kelsay Kaiser, while three-time National Golden Gloves champion Rashidi Ellis (Ċentrali New England), who is the No. 2 rated lightweight in the United States, took a decision against defending N.E. champion Lyndsay Kyajohnian.
Western New England light heavyweight Elivis Figueroa captured his third All-New England crown. His teammate, Hampton Miller (pictured below), waqfet Sean Gabriel in the second round to win the Rocky Marciano Memorial Award as the Most Outstanding Heavyweight Boxer.
Last night’s open-class winners qualified to be members of Team New England at the National Golden Gloves Championships for men in Lafayette, Louisiana (Mejju) and women in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida (Lulju).

“New England will be sending a strong team to the National Golden Gloves,” Russo added. “We may only have three female boxers going to The Nationals, but each one of them have won national tournaments. Anyone of the male boxers on Team New England could win at The Nationals. I think Elvis (Figueroa), Yarmarco (Guzman) u Josniel (Castro). I will offer the Team New England head coaching position to Luis Rosa from the winning Western New England team. We’ll also be brining Carlos Garcia (veteran coach from Worcester), who will be inducted into the National Golden Gloves Hall of Fame.)

The finals of the New England Tournament of Champions will be held tonight(Il-Ħamis, Baħar. 2) at Lowell Memorial Auditorium to crown the 2017 N.E. champions, who will represent Team New England at the National Golden Gloves Championships for men in Lafayette, Louisiana (Mejju) and women in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida (Lulju).

Team Central edged Team West for the most wins last night, 4-3, followed by Team North and Team South with two victories apiece.

LOWELL, Massa. (Frar 24, 2017) – Twelve novice division champions were crowned last night in the men and women’s finals of the New England Tournament of Champions, part of the 71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship, fl-Awditorju storiku Lowell Memorial.
Central New England edged Western New England, 6-4, to win the team title and receive the George McGuane Award. Northern New England had the other two individual winners.
The much-anticipated showdown in the light welterweight bout lived up to its billing as Alejandro Paulino, of New London (CT), defeated Tyngsboro’s (MA) Nathan Balang, 4-1. Paulino was presented the Louie Ayala Memorial Award as the Outstanding Boxer. Jose Ayala, Louie’s brother, made the presentation.
“We had another big, enthusiastic crowd that enjoyed watching some great matches,” qal Bobby Russo, New England Golden Gloves Direttur Eżekuttiv. “The novice division finals had so many good matchups. Paulino versus Balakin was a very good fight. Issa, we move on to next week’s open division semifinals and finals of the New England Tournament of Champions.”

LOWELL, Massa. (Frar 3, 2017) – Fourteen exciting matches were held last night in the semifinals round of the 71st annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship, Ċentrali New England (akbar Lowell) diviżjoni, fl-Awditorju storiku Lowell Memorial.

Last night’s action included nine novice division semifinals matches, eight men’s and one women’s, as well as four open men’s matches. Two of the open matches featured final competitions (not semifinals like the others) as Boston light heavyweight Taylor Mears, representing The Ring gym, stopped Nahua’s (NH) John Xifaris fit-tieni rawnd, and North Chelmsford lightweight Brandon Higgins edged Dorchester’s Jonathan DePina on points, 3-2.
Gloucester’s Gedney brothers, middleweights Adrien u Henry, both won last night, shutting out their opponents (5-0), rispettivament, James Marino, tal Medford, u Furcy Ferreras, of Peabody. The Gedneys will not fight each other next in next Thursday’schampionship final of the novice super middleweight division. They will decide which brother will advance and last night’s opponent of the twin that isn’t advancing, Marino or Ferreras, will advance.
Arguably the most action-packed match last night was between lightweights Jeremiah Perez, of Lowell, u Edwin Rozon, of Haverhill, in the open division. Perez won on points, 5-0, but the game Rozon kept firing despite being dropped in the second round.
