Robbery at the Cannery! Scoring Woes Continue in Las Vegas as Eduardo Ramirez Cheated by Bad Judging

Barthelemy-Ramirez Ends in Dubious Draw
A loud chorus of boos rang out as another controversial Las Vegas decision was rendered in esta noite Leduan Barthelemy vs. Eduardo Ramirez featherweight battle at the Cannery Hotel & Casino en Las Vegas.
Ramirez, de Los Mochis, Sinaloa, México, seemed to have done more than enough to deserve the nod over a listless Barthelemy in the 10-round featherweight main event of a Premier Boxing Champions “Cuba vs. México” TOE-TO-TOE Martes evento, televised nationally on FS1 & BOXEO DE CAMPEONES on FOX Deportes.
Despois 10 rounds of pounding and chasing the exhausted Cuban around the ring, often landing multi-punch combinations to the head and body, Ramirez and corner rightfully celebrated their well-deserved upset victory… But in Las Vegas boxing, nothing is certain, especially scoring.
While Judge Glen Trowbridge was able to pick the right winner at least (but by too tight a margin) en 96-94, the other two inexplicably scored the lopsided beating (Tim Cheatham) 95-95 and an unbelievable 97-93 Barthelemy from Patricia Morse Jarman.
This controversial scoring is the second time Las Vegas judges have made major blunders on national television in a short time, as it comes less than two weeks after the Canelo vs. GGG scoring debacle.
It is also not the first time Morse Jarman has been involved in controversial and highly questionable scoring.
Her decades of head-scratching scores include having Fernando Vargas ahead of Oscar De La Hoya at the time of De La Hoya’s 11th round stoppage victory, as well as having Beibut Shumenov winning 117-111 in a fight against Gabriel Campillo that Campillo clearly dominated and was robbed. Also among her long list of missteps, Morse Jarman had Marco Antonio Barrera beating Nasim Hamed by a mere three points in a fight regarded by all (except Morse Jarman) as a one-sided beating.
With the “deseñar” Barthelemy escapes to 13-0-1, 7 Kos. Ramirez undeservedly sinks to 20-0-3, 7 Kos.

LAS VEGAS (Setembro 26, 2017) – Featherweights invictos Leduan Barthelemy (13-0-1, 7 Kos) e Eduardo Ramírez (20-0-3, 7 Kos) fought to an exciting split draw in their 10-round brawl that headlined Premier Boxeo League Martes toe-de-toe en FS1 e Boxeo Leaguena Fox Deportes Martes night from the Cannery Hotel & Casino en Las Vegas.
The back-and-forth battle saw Barthelemy attempt to take advantage of his length early while Ramirez fought hard to do damage on the inside. By round four, Ramirez had begun to break through Barthelemy’s defense and by the sixth round he connected with Barthelemy repeatedly with no response to score a huge round in his favor.
“I wanted to pressure him all the way through and take away his reach advantage,” dixo Ramírez. “I felt good the whole fight and he never hurt me at any point. I believed in my skills and I performed well.”
“It was a very tough, physical fight for both of us,” Dixo Barthelemy. “I didn’t feel 100 percent but I was able to work through it and I never felt hurt during the fight. He landed on me but I was able to keep my composure.”
Barthelemy was able to recover and began to stifle Ramirez’s aggressiveness by pivoting effectively and landing punches from different angles. By the final round, the two fighters resorted to brawling on the inside, with both men landing big punches all the way to the final bell.
In the end the judges’ scores reflected the close nature of the bout as one judge scored the fight 97-93 for Barthelemy while another judge scored the bout 96-94 for Ramirez. The fight was declared a split draw after the final score was announced as 95-95.

“I thought that I won the fight, it was a close fight but I believe that I did what I had to do to win,” dixo Ramírez. “I would fight him again and beat him even worse.”
Additional action saw once-beaten Alejandro Salinas (9-1, 8 Kos) was able to earn a unanimous decision over rugged brawler Duarn Vue (12-1, 4 Kos) in their eight-round super featherweight contest.
The fight was defined by close quarters exchanges that began right after the opening bell as Vue charged Salinas and tried to navigate the distance and brawl with Salinas. The tide quickly turned for Salinas who established his right hand and connected several times cleanly with Vue’s head.
Vue did not stop attacking and forced Salinas to vary his attack and add in uppercuts and left hooks with his effective right hand. While Vue was able to tag Salinas as he tired into the later rounds, it was not enough to come back in the minds of the judges as all three scored the bout for Salinas by scores of 80-72, 79-73 e 77-75.
The opening bout saw Bryan Figueroa (13-0, 5 Kos) remain unbeaten and win a close decision over Ivan Jimenez (7-1-1, 4 Kos) in their six round lightweight fight.
Figueroa took his time early trying to utilize his height advantage to strike Jimenez from a distance and in round three he connected on a hard left hand that backed up and staggered his opponent. Jimenez was able to stay on his feet, and had success at times getting on the inside and hitting Figueroa with hooks, but was not able to land consistently enough.
The fiery exchanges continued through the sixth and final round with Figueroa eventually earning the decision on all three judges’ scorecards by the score of 58-56.

The fast-rising star Barrios of San Antonio started the bout throwing multiple combinations to the head and body of Nelson of Philadelphia. He kept his distance and stayed patient, but did not get to showcase all of the tools in his arsenal as the fight took a turn in the third round when Nelson went to the canvas after hurting his left shoulder by throwing a hook. That was ruled a slip and he dropped to his knees again after throwing another punch, but after being examined by the ringside doctor, it was determined that Nelson could continue.
Barrios was not deterred and continued to move forward, apply pressure and control the action into the fourth round. By the fifth, Nelson’s work rate dropped significantly, which Barrios took advantage of by battering the Philadelphia-native against the ropes. Throughout the sixth, Barrios stalked Nelson around the ring while Nelson tried to work through his apparent shoulder injury, countering with the right where he could. Ao final, Barrios sent Nelson to the canvas with a hard left hand causing Referee Gary Rosato to wave off the bout at 1:41 of the seventh round. The victory over Nelson marks Barrios’ fourth straight stoppage – all of which have taken place since he started working with renowned trainer Virgil Hunter.
“I apologize to the fans of Pennsylvania as I wanted to put on a show esta noite,” Dixo Barrios. “After I caught him, he was trying to survive. He was moving around. I did not concentrate if he hurt his shoulder or not.
“I just want to keep moving along and get better. I want to fight again before the end of the year if possible and I know I will put on a show in my next fight.”
“I was doing well and I had him, but I hurt my shoulder,” said Nelson. “I thought I was doing a good job, but my shoulder just hurt too much. This is a sport and injuries happen.”
Na co-metragem, lightweights Thomas Velasquez (9-0, 5 Kos) of Philadelphia and Tyrome Jones (4-2, 1 KO) of South Bend, En. Tyrome Jones fought to a draw in a fast-paced six-round bout. Velasquez landed multiple straight left hands in the fourth that stung Jones, but the Indiana-native was able to counter with several straight lefts of his own. The sixth and final round showcased hard-fought action from both pugilists with Jones throwing several hard lefts with Velasquez countering with his own flurries of shots finishing the fight strong. Ao final, the judges ruled the bout even 59-55 for each and 57-57.
“I had to use the jab in this fight as well as my double-jab and body shots were working well,” Dixo Velasquez. “This was a great learning fight and I felt that I won. I can’t wait to get back in the gym, apply what I learned and get back in the ring again soon.”
“This was a tough fight against an undefeated guy who came in confident,” said Jones. “I countered very well and I got to him. I feel that I won the fight, but sometimes the judges don’t see it that way.”
The opening bout saw light heavyweights Earl Newman (10-0-1, 7 Kos) de Brooklyn, NY and Paul Parker (8-2-1, 4 Kos) de Toledo, OH fight to an eight-round draw. Parker made it awkward for Newman in the first two rounds by starting out strong, moving forward, diving in and staying busy. “Agora, we are finishing up the final days to training camp. All the sparring is complete and I’m 100% healthy going into this fight. My weight is good and Virgil and I have been working harmoniously since he became my lead trainer a few fights back. This will be our fourth fight together and I’m learning a lot, especially with my jab. The improvement will be evident when I step into the ring on fight night.”

The youngest brother of two-division world champion Rances and Olympic gold medalist Yan, Barthelemy picked up four victories in 2016 and started his 2017 campaign with a victory over Jesus Aguinaga and a stoppage of Reynaldo Blanco. The 28-year-old fights out of Las Vegas by way of Cuba and continues to rise under the tutelage of Ismael Salas.
Con 22 pro fights under his belt at just 24-years-old, Ramirez will look to make a mark when he makes his U.S. debut on September 26. A tall fighter for his division at more than six feet, the 21-year-old Barrios picked up seven victories in a jam-packed 2015 in which he stopped five opponents inside the distance and followed it up in 2016 with three more victories, including a 12-round decision over Devis Boschiero in July. The San Antonio native began his 2017 campaign with a stoppage victory over Yardley Suarez on the Keith Thurman vs. Danny Garcia undercard in Brooklyn in March and followed it up with a knockout victory over Jose Luis Rodriguez in June. He makes his third appearance on FS1 and FOX Deportes on September 19 and his first as the main event.
The 27-year-old Nelson won his first 12 pro fights before dropping a decision to former world champion Mickey Bey in December 2015 but bounced back with a decision victory over Carlos Velasquez. Fighting out of nearby Philadelphia, Nelson has recently challenged top contender Alejandro Luna and last fought in Bethlehem against Tre’Sean Wiggins in April.
Born and raised in West Philadelphia, Fulton defeated previously unbeaten Luis Rosario in April after a 2016 that saw him stop then unbeaten Adalberto Zorrilla and Cristian Renteria. The 23-year-old is unbeaten since turning pro in 2014 and will be looking to make it a perfect 12 wins in 12 pro starts when he enters the ring on Setembro 19.
The 21-year-old Lopez has beaten fighters with a combined record of 13-0-1 in his last three fights including a victory in July over Paul Romero. Fighting out of Glendale, Calif., Lopez has picked up four victories this year as he prepares for his toughest opponent to date and his first fight on the east coast.

Derevyanchenko put himself in line for a world title shot with an impressive stoppage of the durable contender Johnson in their bout from Main Street – in front of historic Coleman Theater – en Miami, Oklahoma.

The third round saw Derevyanchenko’s offense break through as he was able to land multiple punches to the head while Johnson could only try to cover up. After falling behind in the first half of the fight, Johnson upped the aggression in rounds six and seven and was able to have more success landing series of hooks through Derevyanchenko’s own offense.
Con todo, in round eight Derevyanchenko returned to relying on his jab and was once again able to create the space to land strong shots and got the best of multiple exchanges. Derevyanchenko continued to show off impressive combos until finally breaking down Johnson for good in the 12th round with a ferocious combination that included three clean left hooks to the head.
“He was very tough and took a lot of punches,” said Derevyanchenko. “Maybe the fight could have been stopped earlier but I was always ready to go the distance.”
Johnson was sent down and referee Gary Ritter immediately called a halt to the bout 40 seconds into the final round.
“I’m ready to fight the winner of Golovkin vs. Canelo for the title,” said Derevyanchenko. “I think that Golovkin will win and I look forward to fighting him next.”
The co-main event of the telecast saw once-beaten Hugo Centeno Jr. (26-1, 14 Kos) deliver a highlight reel knockout of previously undefeated Immanuel Aleem (17-1, 10 Kos) in the third round of their middleweight matchup.
Centeno Jr. looked to use his 6’1″ frame to hurt Aleem from a distance as he circled the ring and stayed on the outside until attacking with a combination. Aleem came out dedicated to throwing huge left hooks to the body and worked to stay on the inside against the taller opponent.
Aleem upped the aggression in the second and third rounds, but Centeno Jr. stayed calm and slowly began to time the charging Aleem. A Centeno uppercut in round two was the first shot that got the attention of Aleem, who was coming in to this bout off of a knockout victory over Ievgen Khytrov in a Fight of the Year candidate from January.
