Detroit (December 17, 2015)–Get your engines revving, fight fans, for a new professional boxing series which will be kicking off in fine-form shortly.
“I am starting a new series, called “Detroit Brawl,” promoter Dmitriy Salita proudly announces. “Detroit Brawl” will be a series of electrifying Detroit based boxing events showcasing the talents and skills of fighters from throughout the city, across the country and around the world!”

Detroit is “America’s Greatest Comeback City,” and that is a theme close to the heart of boxers and boxing fans. Who doesn’t appreciate a pugilist, or a storied city with a rich and vibrant history, clambering back into the spotlight? Most fight fans know of the fabled history of tremendous fighters from Detroit and the region, including Floyd Mayweather, Joe Louis and Thomas “Hitman” Hearns. Area gyms are once again filling up with accomplished pros and the “Detroit Brawl” series will provide a platform for these talented boxers.

The first show will take place February 6th at an iconic Detroit venue, the Masonic Temple in downtown Detroit, and Salita will be providing an electric atmosphere, and offering patrons superior bang for the buck. Each show in the series will feature a performance by a local musician, tag-teaming with fast and furious boxing action.

Up and coming Detroit-area hitters will be placed prominently on the card, and as with every Salita show, you can expect talent from all over the world, showcasing their skills.

A resurgent auto sector, a more diversified state economy, an uptick in technology jobs, along with a spruced up downtown area means Detroit is showing a fighting spirit, and piling up the Ws after a downturn. The “Detroit Brawl” will be yet another credit to the scrappy city. “First Brooklyn Brawl, now a version of the same in Detroit,” said Salita. “Two heavyweight cities, home to maybe the best local, grassroots boxing series in the nation.  Area pugilists to join Russian contender at Aviator Complex in South Brooklyn.
BROOKLYN, N.Y. (Sept. 22, 2015) – Coming off an electrifying evening of “Boxing At The Beach” on Aug. 25 in Coney Island, Dmitriy Salita will once again provide NYC with a night of pugilistic prowess as theworld-renowned boxer-turned-promoter brings his Brooklyn Brawl series back to Kings County on Thursday, Oct. 29. The Aviator Sports and Events Complex in South Brooklyn will serve as the next proving ground for many New York City-based rising stars, the exciting undercards building toward a main event showcasing the U.S.A. debut of unbeaten Russian and top-10 world-ranked bantamweight contender, Nikolay Potapov.

“The Brooklyn Brawl series had a great summer. Beginning an inaugural event at the Brooklyn Paramount Theater in partnership with Barclays Center and ending at MCU Park, home of the Brooklyn Cyclones. Potapov – currently ranked as the No. 14 bantamweight in the world by the WBO and now rated No. 10 globally by BoxRec – will put his undefeated 13-0 record (6 KOs) on the line as he makes his debut on U.S. soil. The fast-rising battler piled up more than 180 amateur tilts and amassed a number of national and international tournament victories, and now as a 25-year-old pro has climbed quickly to challenge himself with four 10-round bouts and a 12-rounder against top competition. In his last pro victory, Popatov earned the WBA Asian title by beating Jason Canoy, who is rated No. 14 in the WBC and No. 12 in the IBF.

Welterweight prospect “Trigger” Tresean Wiggins (7-1, 6 KOs) – fresh off a third-round knockout at the Aug. 25 Boxing At The Beach affair – will be back on the Brooklyn Brawl Aviator card. The fighting pride of Newburgh, N.Y., was impressive last month against Baltimore’s Kevin Womack Jr. and looks to add another stoppage victory to his burgeoning resume.

Undefeated junior lightweight contender Dimash Niyazov of Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, will have his mettle tested once again at the Aviator Complex. The Brooklyn police officer, whose story was chronicled by the Wall Street Journal last month, improved to 8-0-3 (5 KOs) with a six-round Boxing At The Beach unanimous decision over local fighter Ariel “Fuego” Duran in a Brooklyn-Queens crosstown rivalry bout.

Detroit’s James Gordon Smith (8-0, 5 KOs) is another rising star putting his unblemished record to the test in Brooklyn. The eight-time Motor City Golden Gloves title-winner and former national amateur champion is intent on making a name for himself in the pro ranks.

A light welterweight and Olympian making his professional debut, Serdar Hudayberdiyev comes to the Brooklyn Brawl after an accomplished international amateur career. The pride of his native Turkmenistan on the West Coast of the Caspian Sea, he captured gold in the Asian games and was selected his country’s flag bearer in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

Heavyweight Emilio Salas (3-1-1, 1 KO) of Puerto Rico – who opened up the Boxing At The Beach slate with a second round TKO at the expense of opponent Glenn Thomas – will add some thunder to the Oct. 29 card while welterweight Giorgi “Goga” Gelashvili (2-0, 2 KOs) of Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, will provide the lightning. Gelashvili, a former three-time Georgian national champion, overwhelmed opponent DeLoren Gray-Jordon last August with a speedy salvo of blows in round two, leading to his second stoppage victory in as many fights and as many months.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (Sept. 2, 2015) – Boxing came back to Coney Island last Tuesday night, and by all accounts, it was a smashing success.
Boxing champion-turned-promoter Dmitriy Salita put together a 10-bout Brooklyn Brawl card, and fans assembled at the Brooklyn Cyclones’ MCU Park were blown away by the shocker ending to the main event.
Veteran Cornelius “Lightning” Lock of Flatbush, Brooklyn, found a home for a nasty left hand, and finished off favorite Alex Miskirtchian in round three of their scheduled ten. Pro boxing came to Coney Island for the first time in 14 years, and didn’t disappoint with a win for the local fighter, who trains at the famed Gleason’s Gym in the County of Kings.
Other winners included Junior Wright, the cruiserweight contender from Chicago aiming at another world title shot; Dimash Niyazov, the NYPD officer moonlighting as a pro hitter; “Trigger” Treysean Wiggins, the fighting pride of Newburgh, N.Y., opening eyes as a solid prospect to watch.
A national, live viewing audience was able to scan the fistic fury as ESPN3 carried three and a half hours of the Brooklyn Brawl, with blow-by-blow man Michael Woods and analyst Brian Adams on the call for Boxing at the Beach. The event will also run on MSG Networks during the month of Sept.; fans can check local listings for the latest broadcast schedule.
“The main event was a very competitive fight and there was an explosive ending,” said Salita, who was blessed with beautiful night, in addition to a bevy of compelling bouts. “Lock scored an upset over a world-ranked, world-class featherweight in Alex Miskirtchian. I believed before the fight that the winner of that one deserves an opportunity at a world title. So, Cornelius Lock put it all together and with such a performance shows he is a threat to all the big names in the division.”
Lock was busy and effective and proved that his left hand puts all future foes on notice. The 36-year-old veteran (23-7-2, 15 KOs), said, “It was a good win against a good fighter rated No. 10 by the IBF. I really took this fight seriously. I had to make a statement that I’m not done, that I still have a lot left. So I knew I had to fight smart, and that’s what I did, use my experience.”
In addition, fans at the ballpark were impressed with the skills of two-time Irish Olympian John Joe Nevin, who scored a stoppage win over Victor Capaceta. Heavy hitter Bahktiyar Eyubov went to 8-0 with 8 KOs, powering past Cory Vom Baur. Brighton Beach brawler Giorgi Gelashvili had the crowd stunned when he overwhelmed DeLoren Gray-Jordon with a lightning-fast salvo of blows in round two, and the colorful “Brooklyn Buddah” Gary Beriguette showed effective aggression in scoring a decision victory over Anton Williamson. Rounding out the card, FDNY firefighter Jose De La Rosa got the W over Kamal Muhammad, and heavyweightEmilio Salas opened things up with a second round TKO at the expense of Glenn Thomas.
Respected former fighter Adams touched on the event from his broadcast position. “I truly believe the card Salita put on was great for the sport,” he said. “There isn’t a great deal of room for local promoters to blossom, but the promotion Salita held was at a world-class level!”
Blow-by-blow man Woods, who is editor of TheSweetScience.com and a contributor for RING, weighed in, saying “We were all pleased and honored to showcase these fights on ESPN3. The stoppage win by Lock was a fitting ending and thriller of a finish, for the entertainment and thrill-seeking destination that is Coney Island!
“I am grateful to ESPN that the fighters on the show had the chance to be seen nationally. I couldn’t have asked for a better evening of boxing in such a stunning venue. Our next show will be Oct. 24 and we are always looking to improve and bring a tremendous level of excitement to the fans,” said Salita, summing up the exciting Boxing At The Beach event.
Brooklyn Brawl Makes Charitable Contributions
When some of the toughest brawlers in the Borough of Brooklyn brandished black and pink gloves last Tuesday, it wasn’t because they were making a fashion statement. The boxers joined their brethren from the NFL, Major League Baseball and the NBA in generating awareness for breast cancer, and the “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” campaign.
The affiliation was announced at the public Brooklyn Brawl weigh-in at MCU Park, as the Brooklyn Brawl and Brooklyn Cyclones donated 50 tickets to cancer charities in Midtown Manhattan, reaching families who have members undergoing cancer treatment in New York City.
Additionally, throughout last Tuesday evening’s event, boxing fans at MCU Park and those watching the live broadcast on ESPN3 were presented with facts about breast cancer and the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer program. Cancer awareness programs are of distinct importance to Brooklyn Brawl promoter Dmitriy Salita.
Said Salita, “I lost my mother to breast cancer when I was 16-years-old. Boxing was a tremendous resource for me, it gave me an outlet and something to lean on. Now we can use boxing as a tool to raise awareness and support for those battling this terrible disease. This very important cause is closest to my heart.”
In addition to the Brooklyn Brawl’s charitable partnership with cancer charities, the Brooklyn Brawl and Brooklyn Cyclones donated 200 Boxing At The Beach tickets to the NYPD and FDNY Widows and Orphans Foundations, and local precincts and fire stations.
“With a Brooklyn police officer and a FDNY firefighter on the boxing card, it was fitting that we gave a special salute to our everyday heroes and families by inviting them to our Brooklyn Brawl event,” said Steve Cohen, Vice President of the Brooklyn Cyclones.  “Our organization always looks for ways to thank the men and women who serve our great city.”

Irish star added to loaded card at MCU Park in Coney Island

BROOKLYN, NY (August 17, 2015) – Coney Island attracts people from all corners of the world who hit New York to experience the Big Apple brand of entertainment and aura by the sea-shore. Many Irish eyes will be smiling the night of Tuesday, August 25 at Coney Island, when people get a chance to see two-time Olympian John Joe Nevin in action at MCU Park.

Promoter has put together a top-tier fight card, with a wide array of talented hitters ready to put on a show at the vacation destination featuring surf, sun, sand and carnival rides…and now the sweet science.

A 2012 silver medalist at the Olympics, Nevin is 3-0 (2 KOs) as a professional, and is pumped up to be part of his first “Brooklyn Brawl.

“I’m excited to be boxing in New York for the first time ever,” the 26-year-old Mullingar, Ireland native said. “I’ve fought all over the world but I’ve always dreamed of boxing in New York. I know there are lots of Irish fans in the area and hopefully we can bring some out.”

Fans will enjoy his two-fisted fury, his constant aggression and desire to achieve a KO; it will be Nevin’s first tangle in 2015: “I haven’t fought since last year so we’re looking forward to getting the rust off and showing what I can do.”

Nevin promises to be in fine form and has gotten the prep work needed to show off his top fighting form. “The boxing I get in Philly gyms is just what you need, working against world class boxers in the summer heat. I’m ready for the challenge. I can’t wait to get back in the ring and get my career moving again.”

Pro Boxing Returns To Cyclones’ MCU Park on Tuesday, Aug. 25.

BROOKLYN, NY (August 14, 2015) – Brooklyn police officer Dimash Niyazov isn’t the only everyday New York hero expected to have the entire city in his corner at the Aug. 25 Brooklyn Brawl. For Queens firefighter and former Golden Gloves amateur champion Jose De La Rosa, the chance to advance his pro boxing career at Coney Island’s MCU Park in two Tuesdays simply adds to the dream he lives every day as part of the legions of proud men and women who comprise “New York’s Bravest.”

“I was really competitive as a youngster and always wanted to be a pro athlete, but I was too small for basketball and football. With boxing as long as you have the drive and the discipline, you can become a champion in different weight classes, so the sport really appealed to me,” said De La Rosa, a welterweight, whose pro record increased to 2-0 (1 KO) after a victory by decision three days after his FDNY graduation. “Also, I love helping people so being a firefighter is a dream job. Pro boxing is a passion and has been a dream for me for a long time, so I get to live two dreams in one.”

De La Rosa has only been boxing for seven years combined as an amateur and a pro, but has quickly ascended to the highest elevations within the sport. A resident of Queens, his boxing roots span into Manhattan and now Brooklyn, where he won the 2013 Golden Gloves title on the big stage at Barclays Center.

“I’m from the Woodside-Astoria section of Queens but have ties to Brooklyn through training, and I became a Golden Gloves champion at Barclays. And now I’m fighting in a great venue in Brooklyn again on Aug. 25 at MCU Park,” said De La Rosa, who trains out of Atlas Cops and Kids in Flatbush. “My fans, family and whoever comes to support is going have a great time. Right now within my firefighter battalion – which includes five firehouses – they know this fight is coming and I hope as many people as possible can come out and support.”

“One thing that firefighters do is support each other every day. I believe in that and that the FDNY will be there for me with support. As a firefighter, we support each other every day with our lives, as we look to accomplish our dreams,” De La Rosa said.

Cruiserweight title challenger Junior Wright, coming off a solid showing in a world title challenge in Russia, is coming back to BK, to show off lessons learned against Rahkim Chakhkiev three months ago.

I picked up a lot, more experience from there,” said the 13-1-1 Chicagoan, who will meet rugged Michiganer Harvey Jolly in a bout scheduled for 6-rounds.

Wright, a busy technician, said he is enthused to appear for the third time on a card in NY. “New York is great man, I just feel like this another opportunity to show I am world class,” he said.

Promoter Salita is happy to add Wright to another of his superlative Brooklyn Brawls. “Junior Wright is an honorary New Yorker and fought his most memorable fight, against Steve Bujaj, in Brooklyn just last year. NYC fight fans are always asking about his next appearance in the city!
