Inspired by close friends Broner and Warren, Brandon Bennett inching closer to world title shot

Washington, DC (August 25, 2015) This Friday night, August 28 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in the nation’s capital of Washington, DC, King’s Promotions will present a spectacular night of boxing that will feature some of the best talent in the United States.
In the main event, Brandon Bennett (19-1, 8 KO’s) will square off with former world title challenger Jonathan Maicelo (21-2, 12 KO’s) in a Lightweight bout scheduled for 10-rounds.
Bennett of Cincinnati, Ohio has been training hard for Maicelo, who has challenged for an interim world title.
“Training has been good. I been on weight for a few days. It’s been 2 hard months but the difficult part of training and dieting is over and I am ready to fight,” said Bennett.
When asked about Maicelo, Bennett was not concerned with his opponent, despite Maicelo having wins over Art Hovhannisyan and former world title challenger Fernando Angulo.
“He is an orthodox fighter. He likes to come in and he likes to counter punch. He may have fought for the title but I am the more experienced fighter. I have fought good guys and I get the best sparring. All of that doesn’t matter, because at the end of the day, we have to fight. ”
Bennett realizes that a win over Maicelo will push him very close to a fight for a world title and a win on Friday will give him another quality win to add to his resume.
“Hopefully in the next fight or two, I will be in position. Beating him should have me considered to be a top contender.”
If that is the case, Bennett will join gym mates and close friends, Adrien Broner and Rau’Shee Warren as the next fighter from trainer, Mike Stafford’s Cincinnati gym to fight for a world title. Bennett gets world class sparring and advice every day from Broner, a three-division world champion and Warren, a three-time U.S. Olympian and world title challenger.
The three have been inseparable for two decades
“I got into boxing at age eight. I was a football player. Rau’shee lived down the street from me and asked me to walk to the gym with him. He had already been boxing and Mike Stafford asked us to spar. He got the best of me that day but I stuck with it. Ironically, Adrien came in the next day and started boxing the very next day and Rau’shee sparred with him as well. Being around them is definitely an inspiration. I see what my friends have done and achieved and I know I will be next to have those accolades.”
A terrific undercard is taking shape that will feature some of the best prospects in the country.

2012 U.S. Olympian Jamel Herring (12-0, 7 KO’s) will fight Ariel Vasquez (12-8-2, 8 KO’s) of Managua, Nicaragua in a Lightweight bout.
Robert Easter (14-0, 11 KO’s) of Toledo, OH will take on Osumanu Akaba (32-8-1, 25 KO’s) of Accra, Ghana named in a Lightweight bout.

Demond Nicholson (13-1, 13 KO’s) of Laurel, MD battles Antonio Baker (8-12, 4 KO’s) of Fayetteville, NC in a Middleweight bout.
David Grayton (11-0, 8 KO’s) of Washington, DC will fight Jose Valderrama (4-10, 3 KO’s) of Arecibo, Puerto Rico in a Welterweight clash.

Kareem Martin (5-0-1, 3 KO’s) of Washington, DC battles Anthony Prescott (5-6-2, 2 KO’s) of Cherry Hill, NJ in Welterweight bout.

Washington, DC (July 27, 2015) On Friday night, August 28 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in the nation’s capital of Washington, DC, King’s Promotions will present a spectacular night of boxing that will feature some of the best talent in the United States.
In the main event, Brandon Bennett will square off with former world title challenger Jonathan Maicelo in a Lightweight bout scheduled for 10-rounds.
Bennett of Cincinnati, OH has a record of 19-1 with 8 knockouts. The 27 year-old has been a professional for seven years and won his first 16 bouts which included a win over John Nater (9-1). Since suffering his only defeat, Bennett has won three in a row which has been highlighted with a with a win over previously undefeated Rodney Pierre-Paul (7-0) and his last bout when he stopped Rondale Hubbert (10-1-1) in three rounds on May 29 in Philadelphia.
Maicelo of North Bergen, NJ has a record of 21-2 with 12 knockouts. He began his career in his native Peru in 2005. He racked up 17 wins and in the process won the WBC Latino Lightweight title and the WBA Fedecentro Lightweight title. He has wins over former world title challengers Daniel Attah and Fernando Angulo and also has a win over Art Hovhannisyan. In his last bout, Maicelo lost a 12-round unanimous decision to Darleys Perez for the Interim WBA Lightweight championship on January 9 in Santa Ynez, California.
An outstanding undercard is being assembled that will feature some of the best prospects in the county that will also have a local flavor.

Keystone Boxing Presents Capital City Boxing
The Keystone Boxing promotion will have three scheduled six-round contests. Laurel, MD middleweight Demond “D Best At It” Nicholson will look to bounce back from his first pro loss when he faces Rahman Mustafa Yusubov AKA “Genghis Khan” of Dallas, TX by way of Azerbaijan. Nicholson (10-1, 10 KO’s) was stopped by Lekan Byfield in the sixth round on November 1 in Chicago, IL. Yusubov (11-19, nine KO’s) will be looking to break a four-bout losing streak.
Also, undefeated Palmer Park, MD super featherweight Kevin “K-Smoov” Rivers, Jr. will battle Stephon McIntyre of Jonesboro, GA. Rivers (10-0, seven KO’s) last fought on October 24 and scored a sixth-round TKO over Karl Garcia-Rios in Fort Washington, MD. McIntyre (2-4-2) has been stopped in his last two bouts. However, McIntyre performs very well when he comes to the Beltway Region — he battled to two tough draws with Marcus Bates and Marc Johns in two battles in Fort Washington.
Forestville, MD junior welterweight Myke “The Professor” Fox will make a quick move into six-round competition when he takes on Luis “Yeye” Rodriguez of Carolina, Puerto Rico. Fox (4-0, one KO) won a four-round unanimous decision over Sean Lockhart on November 1 at Constitution Hall in DC. Rodriguez (3-1, two KO’s) competes for the first time away from Puerto Rico and will try to bounce back from suffering his first pro loss back in November of 2013.
In four-round contests, Montgomery Village, MD junior middleweight Gerome Quigley will battle Laurel, MD’s Norman “The Shadow” Allen. Quigley (5-0, four KO’s) scored a first-round knockout over Cedric Coney on October 11 in Springfield, VA. Allen (6-11, three KO’s) lost a six-round unanimous decision to Brandon Quarles on April 26 in Springfield. Allen will look to break a 10-bout losing streak.
Fort Washington, MD super bantamweight Marq “The Monster” Johns will take on Jaxel Marrero of Puerto Rico. Johns (4-0-1, four KO’s) will make his DC debut on this card after competing at Rosecroft Raceway in Fort Washington in all five of his previous bouts. Johns has knocked out his last four opponents. Marrero (1-3-1) lost a four-round unanimous decision over Mario Barrios on May 10 in Los Angeles, CA. Marrero has never been knocked out in a pro bout.
DC lightweight Tyrone “Showtime” Wright will face off against Thomas Mattice of Cleveland, OH. Wright (2-1) won a four-round majority decision over Enrique Vargas on April 18 at Rosecroft. Mattice (1-0, one KO) won his pro debut on September 5 with a first-round TKO of Frank Jordan in Parsippany, NJ.
DC bantamweight Maurice “Mighty Mo” Adams, Jr. takes on Gabriel Braxton of Red Oak, GA. Adams (1-0) won his pro debut on June 13 at Rosecroft Raceway with a four-round majority decision over Arthur Parker. Braxton (1-7) lost a four-round unanimous decision to Jose Gomez on November 29 in Los Angeles. Braxton’s one win came at Rosecroft on April 18 when he won a four-round unanimous decision over Rodrigo Gabriel.
The card will also mark the return of lightweight Renaldo “Misunderstood” Gaines of District Heights, MD. Gaines (4-2, one KO) took all of 2014 off after losing by second-round TKO to Anthony Smith in June of 2013 at the Washington Convention Center. Gaines will take on the aforementioned Arthur Parker of Lancaster, PA (1-12-1, one KO). Parker returns to DC for the second straight time. Parker was stopped in the fourth round by Nuwan Jayakody on October 23 at the Renaissance Hotel.
Hyattsville, MD junior welterweight Patrick Harris (3-0, two KO’s) is also slated to be on this card, fighting for the first time in the Nation’s Capital. No word yet on his opponent.
