SECOND PRO BOXING BOUT ANNOUNCED FOR NEF 22

Lewiston, Maine (February 25, 2016) – New England Fights (NEF), America’s number-one regional fight promotion, will hold its next event, “NEF 22: ALL ROADS LEAD HERE” on Saturday, April 23, 2016at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée in Lewiston, Maine.  The fight card will feature a mix of mixed-martial-arts (MMA) and professional boxing bouts.  Earlier today, NEF announced the addition of a light-heavyweight contest to the boxing portion of the “NEF 22” fight card.  Crowsneck Boutin (0-0-1) is scheduled to face Brandon Montella (3-0, 2 KOs) in a four-round bout.

 

Crowsneck Boutin, a regular on NEF MMA cards since 2012, made his professional boxing debut earlier this month on the “NEF 21” event in Lewiston.  He fought Joel Bishop (0-0-2) to a draw in an exciting slugfest that had the Colisée crowd on the edge of its collective seat.  Boutin, considered the underdog in that bout, expertly worked his jab to control the first two rounds of the fight.  Like the Bishop match, Boutin is preparing for another war with Montella on April 23.

 

“Brandon is a very tough opponent,” said Boutin.  “He’s going to present me with many obstacles. My training is grueling and I’ll be prepared for a war.”

 

Brandon Montella is a 1998 graduate of Carrabec High School in North Anson, Maine.  Following graduation, Montella joined the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and served until 2003 with an honorable discharge.  Montella worked in construction in Virginia until 2011 when he moved with his wife to the Boston, Massachusetts area.  He owns and operates The Way, LLC boxing gym in Woburn, Massachusetts.

 

“Coming back home from to Maine after all these years to fight in a place of such history is an amazing feeling,” said Montella.  “It will bring my friends and family from the past and the present together under one roof for an awesome event.”

 

Montella had a very successful amateur boxing career with a final record of 14-7.  In 2011, he won the prestigious Rocky Marciano Tournament.  Montella went on to win the New England Golden Gloves the following year.  He turned pro in 2015 and has won his first three bouts with two finishes.

 

“As far as my opponent Crowsneck Boutin, I have seen his fights and read his back story,” Montella continued.  “What I see is a man like myself – someone who is determined to change his life and take matters into his own hands instead of sitting around like too many men do today. When two men as determined as we are get in the ring in front of a large crowd, magic happens. We grow larger than life and the fans get one hell of a treat.”

BOYINGTON RETAINS, THREE NEW CHAMPIONS CROWNED AT NEF 21

Lewiston, Maine (February 7, 2016) – New England Fights (NEF), America’s number-one regional fight promotion, held its most recent event, “NEF 21: THE IMMORTALS” Saturday night at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée in Lewiston, Maine.  The Colisée was a packed house for the promotion’s second hybrid mixed-martial-arts (MMA) and professional boxing event.  Fight fans were treated to a marathon evening of nonstop action featuring 26 bouts in total.

 

In the MMA main event of the evening, in what can only be described as a “thriller,” Bruce “Pretty Boy” Boyington (13-8) defeated Jon Lemke (5-4) via split decision to retain the NEF MMA Professional Lightweight Title.  Boyington and Lemke battled back-and-forth for five brutal rounds in what many in attendance were calling one of the best fights in NEF history.

 

In the boxing headliner, Northeast Junior Welterweight Champion Brandon “The Cannon” Berry (11-1) handed Tollison Lewis the first loss of his professional boxing career (2-1) with a second-round stoppage via technical knockout (TKO).

 

On the amateur MMA portion of the card, three inaugural champions were crowned.  Ryan Glover (3-1) took home the light heavyweight title after defeating Mike Williams (1-1), while Johnny Crafts (4-0) captured the bantamweight strap and Ricky Dexter (5-2) won the welterweight championship.

 

NEF also announced that its next event would take place on April 23, 2016, once again at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée in Lewiston.

NEW ENGLAND FIGHTS TO HOLD WEIGH-INS THIS FRIDAY AT LEWISTON RAMADA

Lewiston, Maine (February 3, 2016) – New England Fights (NEF), America’s number-one regional fight promotion, will hold its next event, “NEF 21: THE IMMORTALS” this Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée in Lewiston, Maine.  The event will feature both mixed-martial-arts (MMA) and professional boxing bouts with an MMA cage and a boxing ring set up side-by-side.  Earlier today, the promotion announced that it would hold the event weigh-in this Friday, February 5, 2016, at 2:00 pm EST at the Ramada Hotel & Conference Center.  The Ramada is located at 490 Pleasant Street in Lewiston, Maine.

 

Weigh-ins are open to the public and free to attend.  All of the fighters competing on Saturday night will be at the weigh-in, including MMA headliners Bruce “Pretty Boy” Boyington (12-8) and Jon Lemke (5-3), as well as boxing main event participants Brandon “The Cannon” Berry (10-1) and Tollison Lewis (2-0).  Fans and press are encouraged to attend.  For those unable to make it to the Ramada on Friday, weigh-ins will be streamed live on the NEF Youtube page at www.Youtube.com/nefmma.

NEF TO OPEN 2016 WITH SPECTACULAR FIGHT CARD

Lewiston, Maine (January 6, 2016) – New England Fights (NEF), America’s number-one regional fight promotion, will hold its next event, “NEF 21: THE IMMORTALS” on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée in Lewiston, Maine.  The fight card is scheduled to feature both mixed-martial-arts (MMA) and professional boxing bouts.  Earlier today, NEF announced the full fight card for the event which will be the fight promotion’s first of 2016.

 

A pair of professional boxing bouts will be featured on the main card of the evening.  Joel “Baby Bull” Bishop (0-0-1) returns to action after more than a year’s absence to face MMA regular Crowsneck Boutin (0-0) in a light-heavyweight four-round bout.  Northeast Junior Welterweight Champion Brandon “The Cannon” Berry (10-1) will attempt to make it three wins in a row when he steps in the ring to face undefeated Tollison Lewis (2-0) in a six-round, non-title, super-welterweight contest.  Both Berry and Lewis are coming off wins in the boxing ring at “NEF XX” this past November.

 

The professional portion of the MMA card will be headlined by the long-awaited meeting between Bruce “Pretty Boy” Boyington (12-8) and Jon Lemke (5-3).  Dubbed “The Battle for Bangor,” with both men living and training in the Bangor, Maine area, Boyington’s NEF MMA Professional Lightweight Title will be on the line.  Number-one contender Lemke will be looking to capture the first championship of his MMA career.

 

The co-main event of the evening on the professional MMA card will see local Lewiston-Auburn favorite Jesse “The Viking” Erickson (6-4) taking on Devin Powell (4-1) in a lightweight matchup.  Powell returns to the NEF cage for the first time since May 2014, while Erickson will be looking for his fourth consecutive win in Lewiston.

 

A total of three title fights will headline the amateur MMA side of the card.  Young’s MMA standout Josh Harvey (5-1) defends his lightweight title against Florida’s Andrew “Ling-Ling” Tamayo (8-1).  Caleb Farrington (3-0) andRicky Dexter (4-2) will decide the first-ever NEF MMA Amateur Welterweight Champion, while Henry Clark (3-1) and Johnny Crafts (3-0) meet to determine the inaugural amateur bantamweight titleholder.

 

In addition, Erin Lamonte (5-0) and Randi Beth Boyington (1-2) are scheduled to face off in a women’s MMA bout.  It will be a rematch of a contest won by Lamonte at “NEF XX.”  Boyington’s supporters in the audience felt that the referee stopped the bout prematurely as Boyington was about to break out of, or had already broken out of, Lamonte’s armbar submission.  After much back and forth among their respective supporters on social media, the rematch is expected to settle the issue once and for all.

OF CROWS & BULLS: FIRST BOXING MATCH ANNOUNCED FOR NEF 21

Lewiston, Maine (December 9, 2015) – New England Fights (NEF), America’s number-one regional fight promotion, will hold its next event, “NEF 21: THE IMMORTALS” on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée in Lewiston, Maine.  The fight card is scheduled to feature both mixed-martial-arts (MMA) and professional boxing bouts.  Earlier today, NEF announced the first professional boxing match officially signed for the “NEF 21” fight card.  Joel “Baby Bull” Bishop (0-0-1) will meet Crowsneck Boutin (0-0) in a four-round light-heavyweight contest.

 

Joel Bishop is a 2004 graduate of Upper Kennebec Valley Senior High School in Bingham, Maine.  It was during high school that Bishop began boxing.  He put together an amateur boxing record of 10-4, and in 2009 won the New England Tournament of Champions Heavyweight Sub Novice championship.  Bishop has twice made it to the finals of the Northern New England Golden Gloves.  In October 2014, Bishop made his professional debut against another NEF MMA regular, Jarod Lawton (0-0-1) and fought to a draw in Lewiston in what was a back-and-forth slugfest.

 

“I’m very excited to get back in the ring at NEF 21,” exclaimed Bishop.  “I was at the last dual show and there was a ton of energy and excitement.  On February 6th, I’ll be fighting a very tough, active fighter in Crowsneck Boutin, and I will do my best to give the fans an exciting bout.”

 

Crowsneck Boutin is a mainstay of the NEF roster, having competed in no less than 14 of the promotion’s previous MMA events as both an amateur and a professional.  In 2014, he was voted “Fighter of the Year” by the NEF fans after going undefeated with three wins that year.  Boutin will be making his professional boxing debut at “NEF 21,” but he will undoubtedly be prepared for the task, training under boxing coach Jon Pinette, an international boxing champion himself, at the Choi Institute in Portland, Maine.
“Very thankful, very fortunate for this opportunity,” said Boutin.  “Joel is a tough opponent, but it isn’t my intention to let this fight reach the scorecards. It will be my pleasure to stand and gun.”

BOUTIN IS PREPARED FOR REMATCH, NEW WEIGHT DIVISION

Lewiston, Maine (November 13, 2015) – New England Fights (NEF), America’s number-one regional fight promotion, will hold its next event, “NEF XX: A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE” on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée in Lewiston, Maine.  The event will feature a first for Maine – mixed-martial-arts (MMA) bouts and professional boxing bouts on the same event with an MMA cage and a boxing ring set up side-by-side.  In a featured professional welterweight MMA bout, Crowsneck Boutin (1-1) will meet Matt Bordonaro (2-0) at a fight weight of 170-pounds.

 

It will not be the first meeting between Lubec, Maine-native Boutin and Buffalo, New York’s Bordonaro.  The two faced each other as amateurs at “NEF IX” in Biddeford, Maine.  Bordonaro came away with the victory that warm summer night in 2013, submitting Boutin in the first round.

 

“I’m very thankful for this opportunity to fight Matt again,” said Boutin.  “Bordanaro is a tough fighter that is game to go the distance, which are the kind of fights I’ve grown to enjoy the most – wars that push us to the edge as athletes and competitors. Exciting the fans means everything.  With my body and mind where they need to be, I’m ready to finish this year with a bloody war.  I want to earn that ‘W.’”

 

After a successful professional debut this past summer, Boutin would drop his second professional bout to Mike Hansen (3-2).  Not satisfied with the outcome of the first fight, Boutin has requested a rematch with Hansen next year.

 

“In 2016, I would appreciate a rematch with Mike Hansen,” stated Boutin.  “I don’t care what weight. I really want that fight back, and if he isn’t scared, he’ll stop making excuses and lock on.”

 

Boutin cut his teeth on the New England amateur MMA circuit prior to turning professional.  He competed in a total of thirteen amateur contests to gain experience in the sport.  In 2014, at the close of his amateur career, Boutin was voted the “Fighter of the Year” by NEF fans after putting together an impressive 3-0 record with the promotion that year.  He rode that win streak into the pro ranks where he downed veteran Ryan Cowette (2-3) at “NEF XVIII.”  Boutin notes the stark difference between competing as an amateur and competing as a professional.

 

“Each level presents its own particular challenges, both inside and outside the cage, but fighting professionally bears with it greater risks and greater rewards, I feel. Everyone is someone that can potentially hurt you and steal your glory, not to say that those cats don’t exist at the amateur level, because they do, but perhaps fewer and further in-between, and with safer rules and restrictions.”

 

The upcoming fight with Bordonaro will be Boutin’s first in the 170-pound welterweight division.  Having spent most of his career competing as a light-heavyweight and a middleweight, Boutin hopes to find a home, at least for the foreseeable future, in the lighter welterweight division.

 

“Cutting weight is a bit of a pisser, but making 170 on the 20th (November 20 – weigh-in day for the Bordonaro fight) won’t be an issue. I’m a professional and will continue to evolve.  It’s what we’re here to do.  55 (the 155-pound lightweight division) is not outside the realm of possibility, but for now and probably for a little while, I just want to focus on the welterweight division. We’ll see what the future holds.”

 

What might be the most exciting aspect of “NEF XX” for Boutin is getting to compete on the same card with two of his Choi Institute teammates, Caleb Hall (5-3) and Ernesto Ornelas (0-0).  Ornelas, an accomplished amateur boxer previously, will be making his professional boxing debut that evening after having competed in MMA for the past four years.  The three teammates have not fought on the same card together since “NEF VII” in May 2013.

 

“Ernesto and Caleb are both looking outstanding,” said Boutin.  “We all push ourselves and one another hard in training. Caleb evolves noticeably almost week to week and works like a horse, while Ernesto, I honestly feel, is a hidden gem that everybody is about to see shine.  3-0.”

NEF XIX RESULTS FROM LEWISTON, MAINE

Lewiston, Maine (September 13, 2015) – New England Fights (NEF), America’s number-one regional fight promotion, held its nineteenth mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event, “NEF XIX: HOMECOMING,”  Saturday night at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée in Lewiston, Maine.  A crowd of nearly 2,000 fight fans was on hand to witness the slate of seven professional and thirteen amateur bouts.

 

The evening of action saw highlight-reel knockouts delivered by “Shatterproof 2.0” Derek Shorey (3-2) and Josh Harvey (5-1) who retained the NEF MMA Amateur Lightweight Championship.  Mike “The Mustache” Hansen (2-1) was victorious over Crowsneck Boutin (1-1) on the professional portion of the card.  In the main event of the night, Bellator and World Series of Fighting (WSOF) veteran Sidney “Da Gun” Outlaw (5-1) submitted the returning Darrius Heyliger (4-3).

 

In addition, the promotion announced that its next event, “NEF XX: A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE,” will feature a first for Maine combat sports – a joint MMA and professional boxing event.  The event will take place on November 21, 2015 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée in Lewiston, Maine.  Three fights were announced including: NEF MMA Professional Lightweight Champion Bruce “Pretty Boy” Boyington (10-8) defending the title against Jimmy “Jimbo Slice” Davidson (7-1); Northeast Junior Welterweight Boxing ChampionBrandon “The Cannon” Berry (9-1) defending his title against an opponent to be named; Billy “Bigfoot” Leahy (3-1) defending the NEF MMA Amateur Heavyweight Championship against Dave Smith (2-0); and Randi Beth Boyington (1-1) facing Erin Lamonte (3-0).

Lewiston, Maine (August 17, 2015) – New England Fights (NEF), America’s number-one regional fight promotion, will hold its nineteenth mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event, “NEF XIX: HOMECOMING,” on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée in Lewiston, Maine.  Featured on the professional portion of the card will be a light-heavyweight matchup between Crowsneck Boutin (1-0) and Mike “The Mustache” Hansen (2-2).  Both men are competing under NEF developmental deals.

 

Recently, Boutin was NEF co-owner and matchmaker Matt Peterson’s guest on the NEF Podcast.  Boutin discussed, among other topics, growing up in Lubec, Maine, the upcoming bout with Hansen, and his recent signing to a multi-fight NEF development deal.  Boutin and Peterson touched on their first meeting some three-and-a-half years ago, shortly before Boutin made his amateur debut at “NEF III.”

 

“I was hanging out with a few buddies who got tickets to your (NEF) first event, so I went to that and it was the greatest thing,” recalled Boutin.  “I remember talking with people and then contacting you.  I really wasn’t doing anything at that time.  I was feeling kind of lost.  I was kind of clinging to the feeling of want.  I just wanted to do something.  Plus, I liked to fight and scrap.  I always watched the sport.  I guess it just all came together at that time.”

 

With no formal training, Boutin would lose his first bout.  Shortly thereafter, Peterson put Boutin in contact with coach Jon Pinette of the Choi Institute in Portland, Maine.  It is there that Boutin found his footing in the martial arts while, at the same time, forging strong friendships and relationships with teammates.

 

“It’s a pretty awesome atmosphere,” said Boutin of the Choi Institute.  “I’ve never stayed in one place very long my whole life, except for this place.  I don’t see myself leaving.  It’s a great atmosphere over here.  I called Jon.  I remember being really nervous to call Jon, I was thinking about this earlier, but he was really inviting… Everyone here has been really inviting, really supporting.  There’s a really good mix of people here.  We have young to old.  We have everything in between.  It’s a very accepting place to be.  It’s a great place to train.  Everyone gets along inside and outside the gym.”

 

Boutin made the decision to turn professional earlier this year after having competed in a total of 13 amateur fights.  He would defeat MMA Athletix head coach Ryan Cowette (2-3) in his debut.  In doing so, Boutin gained a measure of revenge as it had been Cowette’s protégé Brent Dillingham (1-1) who had handed Boutin his first loss in Boutin’s amateur debut at “NEF III.”  Boutin says that there really was no animosity between himself and Cowette, but the post-fight exchange between Boutin and Dillingham at “NEF III” in 2012 is still in the back of his mind.  He admits that he would love a rematch with Dillingham in the near future.

 

“As far as Brent Dillingham goes, he’s somebody I’d really like to fight soon at 205 if he can get in shape and meet me there,” Boutin declared.  “I’d love to have that fight sometime soon.”

 

Boutin will have his work cut out for him with Hansen on September 12 in Lewiston.  Hansen is an accomplished wrestler, having won a state championship for Mountain Valley High School in Rumford, Maine in 2004.  Boutin, however, is confident in his own abilities both standing and on the mat.

 

“I feel ready for wherever the fight goes,” said Boutin.  “If it stays on the feet, eventually over three rounds, I’m gonna try to knock him out.  It’s always fun to knock people out.  If it goes to the ground, I’ll prevail there.”

Lewiston, Maine (July 14, 2015) – New England Fights (NEF), America’s number-one regional fight promotion, will hold its nineteenth mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event, “NEF XIX,” on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée in Lewiston, Maine.  Earlier today, the promotion announced the addition of a professional light-heavyweight bout to the fight card.  Crowsneck Boutin (1-0) will face Mike “The Mustache” Hansen (2-2) at a fight weight of 205-pounds.  The promotion further announced that Boutin had signed a long term, multi-fight deal with the company.

 

Crowsneck Boutin debuted as an amateur fighter with NEF in June 2012.  After going 3-0 in 2014, Boutin was voted the “Fighter of the Year” by NEF fans.  His successful run continued into 2015 when Boutin downed veteran Ryan Cowette (2-3) in his professional debut.  He currently trains out of the Choi Institute in Portland, Maine under coach Jon Pinette.

 

“A few years ago, after losing my first fight, Matt Peterson gave me Jon Pinette’s (Choi coach) phone number,” recalled Boutin. “I didn’t know it at the time, but that one phone call would become the most important call I’d ever make. Ups and downs, yea? We all come by them. We find the light. I’m blessed with this opportunity to call the NEF cage my home and it’ll be a true privilege to honor those who have loved me unconditionally and have supported me through this, from when I started as a fugitive, to now, as a professional.”

 

“Hopefully it’s a war and things get bloody,” stated Boutin when asked about his upcoming clash with Hansen on September 12th. “I understand he has a mustache and it’s extremely cool, but I can’t let that distract me from ripping him open.”

 

Mike Hansen, himself an NEF-signed athlete, won a state championship in wrestling for Mountain Valley High School in Rumford, Maine in 2004.  Hansen began competing in MMA soon after graduating high school, but then took nearly a decade off from the sport during which time he served in the United States Army as a combat engineer.  Returning to the cage earlier this year, Hansen founded Berserkers MMA in Rumford where he trains with other Mountain Valley wrestling alum.

 

“Crowsneck is a hard worker out of a great school and he’s dedicated,” stated Hansen when reached for comment. “I’m sure he’s going to throw a lot of volume on his feet, kicking and punching, but it’s not like he’s going to take me down. So, it looks like we are going to stand and bang it out. I expect him to come fully prepared for battle—and battle we will.”

Lewiston, Maine (June 14, 2015) – New England Fights (NEF), America’s number-one regional fight promotion, held its eighteenth mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event, “NEF XVIII: MADE IN AMERICA,” on Saturday night at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston, Maine.  A crowd of 2,000 was on hand to see Crowsneck Boutin (1-0) win his professional debut over Ryan “The Junkyard Dog” Cowette (2-3) and Bruce “Pretty Boy” Boyington (11-8) gain a measure of revenge by defeating John “First Class” Raio (2-8) in their long-awaited rematch.

 

NEF crowned its first three amateur champions in the fight promotion’s history with Billy “Bigfoot” Leahy (3-1) taking the heavyweight title in a wild back-and-forth brawl with Ryan Glover(1-1), Dustin Veinott (4-3) won a close split decision over“Sleepy” Norman Fox (4-2) to capture the flyweight strap, andJosh Harvey (4-1) submitted Ricky Dexter (3-1) to claim the lightweight championship.

 

It was further announced that former NEF MMA Professional Bantamweight Champion Paul Gorman (10-9) would return at “NEF XIX” on September 12, 2015 at the Colisee after a year’s absence from the cage.
