A popular Polish-fighter who has fought out of Chicago for most of his career, Fonfara will make his New York debut in front of the many Polish fans in Brooklyn. Now training in Oakland with Virgil Hunter, Fonfara will look to bounce back from a defeat to Joe Smith Jr. and work his way towards a second world title opportunity, after he dropped Adonis Stevenson in a decision loss for his world title in 2014. The 29-year-old has impressive recent victories including becoming the first fighter to stop Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., when he blasted out the former champion in nine rounds in 2015, and a follow-up victory over current light heavyweight titlist Nathan Cleverly that was a 2015 Fight of the Year candidate and saw the fighters break Compubox records in the division for number of punches landed (936) y arrojado (2524) en una pelea.

Mashantucket, Conn. (Abril. 17, 2016) - Campeón mundial de peso pluma del CMB Gary Russell Jr.. retuvo su título con un notable nocaut técnico del irlandés Patrick Hyland Sábadoen SHOWTIME desde Fox Theatre en Foxwoods Resort Casino en Mashantucket, Conn. En la pelea co-estelar, Jose Pedraza defendió su título de peso ligero junior de la FIB con una decisión unánime sobre Stephen Smith.

Aparte de eso, utilizó una gran estrategia.”

“En realidad soy un campeón mundial como Rocky Martinez; hay muchos prospectos puertorriqueños. Como [Felix] Verdejo, pero todavía no lo considero un aspirante al título mundial. No ha peleado con un boxeador de calibre de campeonato, pero actualmente se encuentra entre los mejores peleadores de Puerto Rico.”

“Estuvo bien. Obviamente, se convirtió en la victoria de Callum. Hay un buen impulso. Callum y luego Stephen tiene su oportunidad de título mundial. Ha sido un ascenso lento y ardiente con Stephen, pero tiene, como yo lo llamo "su final de la Copa del Mundo’ — algo que va a tomar corazón y fuerza. Su fuerza va muy bien. Pedraza es muy buen luchador, buen ortodoxo, buen zurdo, él puede mezclarlo y estamos preparados para cualquier estilo que quiera traer en sábado.”

He can also box on the back foot and on the front foot so we’re varying sparring partners, we’re mixing up the sparring in between the rounds, switching stances, and whichever way Pedraza wants to fight at the end of the night, I’m sure we’ll have an answer for.”

“I think that’s all up to Pedraza, looking back at a few of his fights, he boxes slow and gets off to a good start but then he seems to lose his way a little in rounds. When you watch him against [Andrey] Klimov, he started out very well, put him under manners very quickly and had him nearly beat by the fourth round but [Andrey] managed to stay in very well and boxed really well. He got to the middle rounds, lost his way a little bit, zurdo cambiado, así que de cualquier manera será fascinante.
