Isamary Aquino Brings Home Bronze Medal

In what was perhaps his toughest test to date, Villa performed admirably and displayed his quickness by darting in and out of danger, all the while landing power shots to the head and body.

“We had a game plan for Guerrero, and we executed it perfectly,” ဗီလာကဆိုသည်. “We gave him different looks and fought him from different angles. I don’t think he ever got comfortable.”

Your training camp was unlike any other in that you sparred against world champions Oscar Valdez and Jessie Magdaleno, as well as blue-chip prospect Michael Conlan. What was it like going against such high-level talent?

“Sparring against world champions elevates your game and boosts your confidence tremendously. I held my own the first few sessions with Oscar and Jessie and they called me back for other sessions. These guys expect solid work so I was glad that they brought me back. I’m gaining experience from some of the best so it’s awesome. It was also great sparring with Michael. With those three I was able to see different styles that will help me in my development.”

Your opponent Carlos Flores has had an uneven career. How do you get up for a fight where you are the clear favorite?

“You can’t think that every fight is going to be easy. If you’re not ready for a fight then anyone can make you look bad. This sport is unforgiving in that way. I’m going to be on my “တစ်ဦးက” game and it will show သောကြာနေ့.”

Earlier this year you made the decision to relocate to the Los Angeles area and leave your hometown of Midland, Tex. What has been the toughest part of this move?

“I’m doing what I love to do and that always involves sacrifices. The most difficult part is being away from friends and family and being far from home. I knew moving to Los Angeles was the right choice because if you want to get better, especially in the lower weight classes, this area is the place to be. On any given day you can spar with contenders and world champions so it’s been great for me.”

How do you see Friday’s fight going down?

“I can predict a solid win for me and my team. I’m going to let my punches go and just be active. I’ll work off the jab to open things up and I’m going to show an improved defense. I’m going to look the best I’ve looked so far. That much I know.”

Villa, a southpaw fighting out of Salinas, ကာလီဖိုးနီးယား။, turned professional last July and already has produced seven one-sided wins. His opponent for Friday, Mexico’s Guerrero, is no push over. Guerrero has won his last five fights, four of which ended in knockout fashion.

“Guerrero’s a veteran so we’ve been extra serious in this camp,” said Villa. “My team believes that I can take him out. My team wouldn’t set me up against an opponent that I wouldn’t be able to handle so I feel ready for this challenge.”

Villa, 20, loaded up on top-level sparring to help bridge the experience gap between him and Guerrero. He spent three weeks in Indio, ကာလီဖိုးနီးယား. sparring against elite competition such as unbeaten, world title contender Joseph Diaz.

“Good luck with that,” says his opponent Maximov, who’s also a wrestler for Clackamas College in Portland.

“This is my first main event and my first shot at taking home a belt; I’m ready to rise to the occasion,” Maximov says with a smile. “I’ve got a lot of respect for my opponent and what he’s accomplished so far in his career, but this is my time.”

“KO ညလက်ဝှေ့: Rumble on the Water 2” was presented by Black Tree, and promoted by Roy Englebrecht Promotions, in association with KO Night Boxing LLC and Roc Nation Sports.

The 5′ 4″ Williams ဟာ (12-0, 5 KOs), fighting out of New Haven (ဓါတ်မှန် CT), exploded with pin-point accuracy, also displaying his new-found power, dropping Gonzalez 30-8, 26 KOs), of Nicaragua, three time in the first round. The crafty southpaw finished off his more experienced opponent with a perfectly placed right-left combination, right on the button, for his third and final knockdown. Referee Raul Caiz, Jr က. waved off the action, not bothering to count, as Gonzalez lay vertical on his back in dire straits.
“I prepared well for this fight and anything can happen when I work hard,” Williams remarked after his third consecutive knockout victory. “I felt his power early with a body shot but I stayed focused.
“I can deal with anybody in my division. I want to fight Lee က Selby (IBF featherweight world champion), or any of the world champions, but none will fight me. I really want ဂယ်ရီ Russell (WBC champion); ကျွန်တော်ဒီမှာပါ, ဂယ်ရီ. It’ll be target practice for me.”

“I thought I did real well against a good opponent,” former power forward Rice said after the fight “He’s an athlete, getting better each fight. He’s not the same fighter he was a year ago. I’m becoming more strategic, working on my jab to get better. Basketball players need good footwork like Chris Paul and Lebron James. I’m working to bring my footwork from basketball to boxing,”
