**MANNY PACQUIAO VS. MARIO BARRIOS**

Despite a 17-year age gap between these two fighters, both are unified in their desire to deliver toe-to-toe action for boxing fans as the fighting pride of the PhilippinesManny Pacquiaoduels WBC Welterweight World ChampionMario Barriosin the 12-round main event.

Already owning a career that’s seen him earn more accolades than can be listed in print, Pacquiao can etch his name into another chapter of the history books by going straight from his Hall of Fame induction in June to a world championship-winning performance on July 19. Dalam era yang dilihat superstar dalam 40 mereka seperti Tom Brady dan LeBron James terus cemerlang di peringkat tertinggi, Pacquiao can break his own record as the oldest welterweight world champion in history with a win over Barrios, after originally setting the mark at 40-years-old in his 2019 triumph over Keith Thurman.

The Filipino legend will have a tall task in front of him to achieve this feat, as the six-foot Barrios will bring a nearly seven-inch height advantage into his second defense of the WBC title. A two-division world champion, Barrios represents his Aztec heritage every time he enters the ring with an all-action style that’s delivered numerous electric clashes and which should combine with the always hard-charging Pacquiao for explosive action. Looking for a signature victory to separate himself from the other titleholders in boxing’s historic glamour division, Barrios will no doubt be keen to upend Pacquiao’s coronation when they square off on July 19.

A three-time Fighter of the Year and the one-time Boxing Writers Association of America’s Fighter of the Decade, Pacquiao (62-8-2, 39 KOs), who hails from Sarangani Province in the Philippines, is the only sitting Congressman and Senator to win a world title. After serving two terms as Congressman, Pacquiao was elected to a Philippine Senate seat in May 2016. Pacquiao’s boxing resume features victories over eight current Hall of Famers, termasuk Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley, Tim Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez.

Pacquiao’s most recent run in the 147-pound division saw him dispatch of former four-division world champion Adrien Broner in January 2019, before defeating the then-undefeated and reigning WBA Welterweight World Champion Keith Thurman in July of that same year. Pacquiao’s triumph over Thurman saw him send Thurman to the canvas in round one, the first time Thurman had been down in his career, on his way to edging out a decision in a 2019 Fight of the Year contender. Pacquiao would come up short in his next contest, dropping a decision to late-replacement Yordenis Ugas, who stepped in on short notice to replace an injured Errol Spence Jr. pada bulan Ogos 2021.

“Boxing is my passion and I’m so excited to be back in the ring,"Kata Pacquiao. “MGM Grand is like my second home in my career and it’s a place where I’ve had so many memorable fights, including my U.S. debut. The first title I ever won was a WBC title, and now I am back to fight for the WBC title once again. Mario Barrios is exactly the type of champion I like to fight, because he’s a real Mexican warrior like Erik Morales, Marco Antonio Barrera and Juan Manuel Marquez. Come July 19, it’s going to be an amazing night for the fans.”

The 29-year-old Barrios (29-2-1, 18 KOs) stamped his place among the welterweight elite in September 2023 as he dropped former champion Yordenis Ugas twice to capture the interim belt by unanimous decision. Barrios followed that up by sending Fabian Maidana to the canvas as well on his way to another dominant decision victory, and was elevated to WBC Welterweight World Champion following the bout. His first defense of the title featured Barrios going toe-to-toe with Abel Ramos in one of 2024’s best fights in action that saw both men score knockdowns and that ultimately ended in a split-draw and Barrios retaining the belt.

Before his run at 147-pounds, Barrios was a world champion at 140-pounds, edging out Batyr Akhmedov in September 2019 with a clutch 12ke--round knockdown that sealed his victory on the scorecards. Throughout his career, Barrios’ only two defeats have come against two of the era’s best fighters in five-time, three-division champion Gervonta Davis and former unified welterweight world champion Keith Thurman. Representing his native San Antonio, Texas, Barrios trains in Las Vegas with top trainer Bob Santos.

Sharing the ring with a legend like Manny Pacquiao is an honor, but once the bell rings, itu semua perniagaan,” kata Barrios. “I respect everything he’s done in the sport, but on July 19, I’m defending what’s mine. This isn’t just another fight — it’s a legacy fight not just for me but for all the Mexican fans as well. Beating Pacquiao puts my name in a different conversation. Pacquiao is a Hall of Famer for a reason. Dia segera, letupan, and dangerous at all times. But I’m younger, Saya lapar, and I’m the champion for a reason. I’m coming in with everything I’ve got. Fighting in Vegas is always special, but this event is a truly massive stage and I’m ready to show out for the world.

**SEBASTIAN FUNDORA VS. TIM TSZYU II**

Two of the top fighters in the stacked 154-pound division, WBC Welterweight World ChampionSebastian "The Menara Inferno" Fundoradan Superstar AustraliaTim Tszyuwill meet in a 12-round rematch after their first fight saw Tszyu suffer a grisly cut in round three from an inadvertent Fundora elbow. The then WBO 154-pound champion Tszyu chose to fight on instead of bow out due to the cut, eventually losing his title, along with the then-vacant WBC belt, to Fundora by a close decision. Pada Julai 19, these two rivals look to settle the score and establish who is number one at 154-pounds.

Fundora (22-1-1, 14 KOs) rocketed to the top of the super welterweight division with that victory over Tszyu, and most recently made a successful title defense in March by knocking out top contender Chordale Booker in round four on Prime Video. A native of Coachella, California, Fundora notably showed his mettle in April 2022, battling the hard-hitting Erickson Lubin in an instant 2022 Fight of the Year contender. Despite both men hitting the canvas, Fundora stood tall in the end, prompting Lubin’s corner to stop the fight at the end of the ninth round. The 27-year-old has defeated a slew of contenders throughout his career, with his only defeat coming to Brian Mendoza in 2023. Fundora represents one of boxing’s most accomplished families, as he is trained by his father Freddy alongside his younger sister, undisputed flyweight world champion Gabriela. The two fighting Fundora’s are the first brother and sister to simultaneously hold world championships.

I’m more than happy to honor Tim’s rematch clause,” said Fundora. “I expect Tim to be in optimum condition. Fans should expect nothing but a very entertaining violent display.

Selepas 2024 saw Tszyu (25-2, 18 KOs) lose a second-straight bout to IBF 154-pound champion Bakhram Murtazaliev following the Fundora fight, the 30-year-old recently returned to action in April by stopping young contender Joey Spencer in round four in Australia. Tszyu came into the first Fundora fight off a red-hot 2023 campaign that saw him elevated to world champion at 154-pounds while defeating former world champion Tony Harrison, top contender Brian Mendoza and former title challenger Carlos Ocampo. A native of Sydney, Australia, Tszyu made his U.S debut against U.S. Olympian Terrell Gausha in March 2022, earning a unanimous decision. Tszyu grew up playing soccer, but soon gravitated toward boxing. The decision led to him following in the legendary footsteps of his father, Kostya, who was an undisputed 140-pound champion.

“You live for these moments in boxing,” said Tszyu. “I’m blessed to be going through it again — to rewrite the chapter. Even with the bad memories and demons from the first fight, this is what growth means as a human being. I can go through hell and come back on top. This time I’ve got a full 12-week camp focused on Fundora — not a few days’ notice — and I’m bringing that intensity. I’ve got a little place set aside for that green belt. I’m ready to go get it.”

**ISAAC CRUZ VS. ANGEL FIERRO II**

In another greatly anticipated rematch, hard-charging Mexican fan-favoriteIsaac "Pitbull" Cruzwill step in once again against his power-punching countrymanIsaac Fierroas they meet in a 12-round super lightweight rematch. In their first matchup, Cruz and Fierro fought nip-and-tuck over 10 high-octane rounds that saw them combine to throw over 1400 tumbukan, with Cruz taking home the decision. While Cruz out landed Fierro 142 kepada 113 over the first five rounds, Fierro was stronger in the second half, pendaratan 132 shots to Cruz’s 106.

Buoyed on by his passionate fan base, Cross (27-3-1, 18 KOs) became a world champion in March 2024 as he hurt Rolly Romero badly in round one before eventually ending the fight in round eight via TKO to claim the WBA title. Baru-baru ini, Cruz bounced back from a loss to Jose Valenzuela by out-slugging countryman Fierro in that decision triumph in February. A native of Mexico City, Cruz shot up the rankings in 2020, announcing his presence with an electrifying first-round knockout over veteran Diego Magdaleno in October before adding dominant decisions over Francisco Vargas and Jose Matias Romero. This rise led to the 26-year-old challenging undefeated superstar Gervonta Davis in December 2021, a fight that saw Cruz lose by decision to become just the second fighter at the time to see the final bell against Davis. Trained by his father Isaac Cruz Sr., Cruz also owns stoppage wins over former champion Yuriorkis Gamboa and veteran contender Eduardo Ramirez, in addition to a 12-round decision over the then-unbeaten Giovanni Cabrera.

“I’m looking forward to fighting Angel Fierro again,"Kata Cruz. “I know that I won the first fight, but I feel that I can do even better this time around. This is going to be more of the Mexican style boxing that fans want to see. I fight for the fans and I can’t wait to give them more action on July 19.”

Originally from Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, Fierro (22-3-2, 17 KOs) now fights out of San Diego and has made a name for himself with his aggressive style and power punching prowess. The 26-year-old has fought professionally since 2015 and was undefeated in his first 17 perlawanan. He announced his presence as a world contender in 2021 with a career-best victory as he rose from the canvas to stop former world champion Alberto Machado in round six. Prior to the Cruz fight, Fierro had a three-fight winning streak snapped when he lost a June decision against Alfredo Santiago, with the only other loss of Fierro’s career coming via split-decision in January 2020 against Alex Martin. The February 1 fight against Cruz marked Fierro’s third career fight stateside, and his first since a majority draw against Juan Carlos Burgos in March 2022.

“It is an honor to be fighting at MGM Grand where my idol Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. had so many fights,” said Fierro. “I will honor him by again showing real Mexican style boxing for the world. I feel that I beat ‘Pitbull’ in the first fight and I’m gonna prove it the second time around. Saya datang untuk menang!"

**BRANDON FIGUEROA VS. JOET GONZALEZ**

One of the sport’s premier action fighters, former two-division championBrandon "The Heartbreaker" Figueroawill return to action against top contenderJoet Gonzalez in a 10-round featherweight attraction that will see the winner vaulted back into the world title picture.

The 28-year-old Figueroa (25-2-1, 19 KOs) will look to bounce back after losing his 126-pound title by decision in his February rematch against Stephen Fulton Jr. Figueroa had been elevated to WBC Featherweight World Champion before the fight, after Rey Vargas was declared champion in recess. Figueroa won the Interim WBC Featherweight Title in a 2023 Fight of the Year contender that saw him score a unanimous decision over former champion Mark Magsayo. He returned last May to successfully defend his interim title with a ninth-round knockout of former champion Jessie Magdaleno, increasing his winning streak at the time to three straight. A native of Weslaco, Texas, Figueroa’s relentless pressure and youthful enthusiasm helped him become the first person to defeat former two-division champion Luis Nery in their May 2021 championship clash, as he stopped Nery with a body shot in round seven. Figueroa added to his family’s legacy by capturing the WBC 122-pound world title against Nery, joining his brother Omar Figueroa Jr., who previously held the WBC Lightweight World Championship.

“I’m training in L.A. now with Manny Robles and everything has been going great,” said Figueroa. “I expect a great fight and that I won’t have to look for him to make an exciting fight for the fans. So expect an all-action throwdown. I feel like I owe it to my fans after my last performance. I just want to be more active this year and give the fans more of ‘The Heartbreaker’.”

Pertempuran daripada Los Angeles, Gonzalez (27-4, 15 KOs) returns to the ring after earning a crucial victory over fellow contender Arnold Khegai in March. The 31-year-old turned pro in 2012 dengan 23 kemenangan berturut-turut, earning a world title shot against Shakur Stevenson in 2019 that he would ultimately drop by decision. Gonzalez would go on to challenge for featherweight world titles two more times, losing decisions to Emanuel Navarrete in October 2021 and Luis Alberto Lopez in September 2023. Gonzalez was a sensational and accomplished amateur fighter, with his resume including two victories over Gervonta Davis.

“This is a new opportunity for me and I plan to put on a great fight against a very tough opponent in Brandon Figueroa,"Kata Gonzalez. “I’m training very hard like I always do and the fans are going to get an exciting fight and a memorable show. We’re both warriors showing up to win that night, so expect fireworks.”

“It’s an honor to promote this year’s International Boxing Hall of Fame event—a card that truly reflects the full spectrum of the sport, featuring champions, top contenders, rising prospects, and future Hall of Famers like Franchón Crews, a true pioneer in women’s boxing.”

“I grew up in this sport. Boxing isn’t just my profession it’s my passion. I approach every event and matchup with the enthusiasm of a fan and the passion of a boxer. Having been a fighter signed to some of the biggest promotions and now working as a promoter for over a decade, I’ve gained a unique perspective. I believe that experience, paired with a deep love for the game, gives me the tools to help elevate the sport in new and meaningful ways.”

“We’re in the midst of an exciting transition in boxing, and innovation is key. That’s why we’re trying new things—like partnering with ALL THE SMOKE—to bring fans closer to the stories, personalities, and journeys that define boxing. Our vision is to be inclusive, collaborative, and to grow the sport for the fans and give the best of opportunities to the fighters we promote.”

Brandon Moore – USBA American heavyweight titlist

“This is a humongous opportunity. I’ve been training for this since February. Not that I knew this was coming but I knew an opportunity of any kind would show up. I know this event is going to be big time and there will be lots of legends there, so I am planning on looking sharp and ready to go against Stanley Wright. He just had an upset win against Jeremiah Milton, so I am taking him extremely seriously. Wright is an undefeated fighter, so I need to give him his first L.”

“I’m a bigger sized heavyweight myself, and I’ve fought bigger heavyweights before. Wright will just be another guy in the totem pole. I just need to move my feet, hit him with that jab, and look good doing it. He’s coming to hit hard so I know what he’s coming to do. I just need to stay focused, keep my chin down, and keep hitting him with that jab.”

“June 6 I’m coming in extremely sharp. Of course I want the knockout, I want it badly. But it’s about being sharp and getting the win. I always want the knockout, but the main focus is staying smart. If I do that, the knockouts will come. They always come.”

Franchón Crews-Dezurn – WBC and WBA Unified Super Middleweight World Champion

“I’m from the bottom so I’m not a stranger to hard work and working for what I want. An opportunity came to work with Salita Promotions, and it made sense. As you can see, women’s boxing is coming to the forefront and there are now a lot of women getting great opportunities. Myself as a pioneer, of course I wanted to get into that mix. Salita just signed two more middleweights so there are no shortage of fights for me here.”

“Boxing is my stage. My first love before boxing was music. The way the universe had it, boxing became my stage and platform. But it all works together. I’m a creator. I express myself through music, tinju, and fashion. When I made my professional debut against Claressa Shields, I walked out to my original music and my original outfit.”

“Boxing is life. I take it very seriously because I’m old school. I’m old enough to know, young enough to learn. I don’t play because you can lose your life in boxing. I’m pushing through a lot of things to make the most out of this opportunity.”

Joshua James Pagan – Undefeated lightweight prospect

“There are a lot of great fighters out there in or around my division. There are a few fighters that are on my radar, including Giovanni Marquez. He’s very talented, tough and durable. Floyd Schofield is another fighter I have on my radar. I want to fight them all.”

“It’s a blessing to be fighting on this card. I grew up watching Manny Pacquiao and Michael Nunn. There are a lot of big names being inducted into the hall of fame. I’m excited to show my skillset and hopefully be in their position one day and make it to the hall of fame.”

“Everyone should expect a great performance from me next Friday. I’ve been focused and had a great training camp in Puerto Rico. I’m ready to put it all to good use on June 6.”

“I’m focused on my fight right now against James Bernadin. Saya tidak boleh melihatnya. Selepas perjuangan ini, I’ll talk to my team to see what’s next.”

World Boxing to introduce mandatory sex testing for all boxers who want to participate in its competitions

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (Mei 30, 2025) — World Boxing will introduce mandatory sex testing, to determine the eligibility of male and female athletes that want to take part in its competitions. The introduction of mandatory testing will be part of a new policy on “Sex, Age and Weight” to ensure the safety of all participants and deliver a competitive level playing field for men and women.

The policy is in the final stages of development and has been crafted by a specially convened Working Group of the World Boxing Medical and Anti-Doping Committee, which has examined data and medical evidence from an extensive range of sources and consulted widely with other sports and experts across the world.

In light of plans to introduce this policy and the particular circumstances surrounding some boxers that competed at the Paris 2024 Sukan Olimpik, World Boxing has written to the Algerian Boxing Federation to inform it that Imane Khelif will not be allowed to participate in the female category at the Eindhoven Box Cup or any World Boxing event until Imane Khelif undergoes sex testing.

This decision reflects concerns over the safety and wellbeing of all boxers, including Imane Khelif, and aims to protect the mental and physical health of all participants in light of some of the reactions that have been expressed in relation to the boxer’s potential participation at the Eindhoven Box Cup.

The letter sent by World Boxing to the Algerian Boxing Federation on May 30, 2025, states:

“Imane Khelif may not participate in the female category at the Eindhoven Box Cup, 5-10 Jun 2025 and any World Boxing event until Imane Khelif undergoes genetic sex screening in accordance with World Boxing’s rules and testing procedures.

“In accordance with the World Boxing Statutes, amendments to the Competition Rules are typically made by Congress. Walau bagaimanapun, under special or emergency circumstances, the World Boxing Executive Board holds the authority to make immediate amendments when a rule is deemed no longer functional or when evolving conditions necessitate a change.

“In May 2025, the Executive Board exercised this authority and adopted new eligibility criteria for participation in sex-specific boxing categories. These new eligibility rules were developed with the express purpose of safeguarding athletes in combat sports, particularly given the physical risks associated with Olympic-style boxing.

“Please be advised that, per World Boxing policy, “…in the event the athlete’s sex certification is challenged by the athlete’s federation or by World Boxing, the athlete shall be ineligible to compete until the dispute is resolved…”

This decision is designed solely to ensure the health and safety of all participants in World Boxing competitions (including Imane Khelif) and is not deemed to in any way prejudge the outcome of any testing that will be introduced as part of the new policy on “Sex, Age and Weight”.

World Boxing’s new policy and the introduction of testing will mean that all athletes over the age of 18 that want to participate in a World Boxing owned or sanctioned competition will need to undergo a PCR (polymerase chain reaction) genetic test to determine their sex at birth and their eligibility to compete.

The PCR test is a laboratory technique used to detect specific genetic material, in this case the SRY gene, that reveals the presence of the Y chromosome, which is an indicator of biological sex. The test can be conducted by nasal/mouth swab, saliva or blood.

Athletes that are deemed to be male at birth, as evidenced by the presence of Y chromosome genetic material (the SRY gene) or with a difference of sexual development (DSD) where male androgenization occurs, will be eligible to compete in the male category.

Athletes that are deemed to be female at birth, as evidenced by the presence of XX chromosomes or the absence of Y chromosome genetic material (the SRY gene) or with a DSD where male androgenization does not occur, will be eligible to compete in the female category.

World Boxing respects the dignity of all individuals and its overriding priority is to ensure safety and competitive fairness to all athletes. To do this, it is essential that strict categories, determined by sex are maintained and enforced, and means that World Boxing will only operate competitions for athletes categorized as male or female.

Under the new policy, National Federations will be responsible for testing and will be required to confirm the sex of their athletes when entering them into World Boxing competitions by providing a certification of their chromosomal sex, as determined by a PCR test.

A failure to provide certification of the chromosomal sex of an athlete or the provision of a false certification, will render the athlete ineligible to compete and may lead to sanctions against the athlete and/or the athlete’s National Federation.

Where test results for boxers that want to compete in the female category reveal Y chromosome genetic material and a potential DSD, the initial screenings will be referred to independent clinical specialists for genetic screening, hormonal profiles, anatomical examination or other valuation of endocrine profiles by medical specialists.

As part of its new policy World Boxing will reserve the right to do genetic sex screening on new or existing athlete samples to confirm certification.

The policy will include an appeals process. Support will be offered to any boxers that provide an adverse test result.

The new “Sex, Age and Weight” policy will come into force from July 1, 2025.

World Boxing was launched in April 2023 with a mission to ensure that boxing remains at the heart of the Olympic movement. It held its first formal meeting with the IOC in May 2024 and on February 25, 2025, it was granted provisional recognition by the IOC as the International Federation (IF) within the Olympic Movement governing the sport of boxing at world level. Pada Mac 20, 2025, the IOC confirmed that boxing has been restored to the sport program for LA28.

Combat Sports Weekend Preview: UFC Vegas 107 & Boxing Showcase

Oleh: Kaya Bergeron

This weekend features compelling action across both mixed martial arts and boxing, with UFC Vegas 107 headlined by Erin Blanchfield vs. Maycee Barber taking center stage alongside significant boxing cards featuring established names and rising contenders.

UFC Vegas 107: Blanchfield vs. Barber – Mei 31, 2025

Acara Utama: Women’s Flyweight Showdown

The UFC returns to the Apex facility in Las Vegas with a women’s flyweight bout that carries significant divisional implications. Erin Blanchfield faces Maycee Barber in the main event, representing a clash between two of the division’s most promising contenders.

Erin Blanchfield enters this contest as one of the most technically proficient grapplers in the women’s flyweight division. Known for her suffocating ground game and submission prowess, Blanchfield has built her reputation on methodical performances that showcase her Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt credentials. Her wrestling base allows her to dictate where fights take place, often overwhelming opponents with her positional control and relentless pressure.

Blanchfield’s striking has evolved considerably throughout her UFC tenure. While she may not possess potent knockout power, her technical boxing and ability to set up takedowns through striking exchanges make her a well-rounded threat. Her top-level cardio gives her consistent advantages, allowing her to maintain pressure throughout three-round contests.

Maycee Barber represents the athletic, explosive side of the flyweight equation. “The Futureburst onto the scene with dynamic striking and aggressive forward pressure. Her athletic gifts are undeniable – explosive takedown defense, sharp boxing combinations, and the ability to generate power in short exchanges.

Barber’s evolution as a fighter has been notable. Early career setbacks taught her valuable lessons about pacing herself and the importance of fight IQ, leading to more measured approaches in recent outings. Her striking diversity, including effective kicks and knees, provides multiple weapons to threaten opponents. The question remains whether her takedown defense can withstand Blanchfield’s persistent wrestling attacks.

Tactical Breakdown: This matchup presents a classic grappler versus striker dynamic. Blanchfield will look to close the distance, secure takedowns, and control position while hunting for submissions. Barber’s success depends on maintaining a comfortable distance, stuffing takedown attempts, and unleashing combinations during brief exchanges.

The key factor that may sway the fight in her favor will be Barber’s ability to create scrambles and also wall-walking back up when taken down. If she can consistently return to her feet, her striking advantages become more pronounced. Conversely, if Blanchfield can establish prolonged ground control, her submission threats and ground-and-pound could prove decisive.

Co-Main Event: Lightweight Contenders Collide

Mateusz Gamrot faces Ludovit Klein in a lightweight bout that could have ranking implications for both fighters.

Mateusz Gamrot represents one of the most complete lightweights outside the division’s elite tier. The Polish veteran combines elite-level wrestling with increasingly dangerous striking. His grappling credentials speak for themselves – multiple submission victories and dominant positional control define his ground game.

Gamrot’s striking has developed into a legitimate threat. His boxing combinations, particularly his jab-cross sequences, set up takedown opportunities while keeping opponents honest on the feet. His conditioning allows him to maintain a grueling pace that often breaks opponents in later rounds.

Ludovit Klein brings European kickboxing pedigree and improving wrestling defense. His striking flows naturally, with excellent footwork and combination punching that can trouble any opponent. Klein’s recent performances have showcased improved takedown defense and scrambling ability.

The Slovakian’s path to victory involves keeping the fight standing and outworking Gamrot in striking exchanges. His volume and diversity of attacks could accumulate damage over three rounds if he can neutralize wrestling threats.

Fight Analysis: Gamrot enters as the betting favorite based on his grappling advantages and overall experience level. Klein’s striking poses legitimate threats, but his ability to defend takedowns consistently will determine the fight’s trajectory. Expect Gamrot to mix wrestling attempts with striking exchanges, while Klein looks to counter and maintain distance.

Light Heavyweight Action: Power Meets Technique

Dustin Jacoby meets Bruno Lopes in a light heavyweight contest featuring contrasting styles and experience levels.

Dustin Jacoby brings extensive kickboxing experience and proven UFC-level competition. His striking base provides clean technique and fight-ending power. Jacoby’s recent performances have demonstrated improved wrestling defense and ground awareness, addressing previous vulnerabilities.

His kickboxing background translates well to MMA, with excellent distance management and counter-striking ability. Jacoby’s leg kicks and boxing combinations can accumulate damage quickly against opponents who engage in striking exchanges.

Bruno Lopes represents the emerging Brazilian talent pipeline. His grappling base and submission threats provide alternative victory paths beyond striking exchanges. Lopes’ aggression and willingness to engage in exchanges make him dangerous throughout fights.

The Brazilian’s striking has shown improvement, though his tendency toward wild exchanges can create opportunities for technical strikers like Jacoby to capitalize.

Middleweight Prospects Square Off

Zachary Resse faces Dusko Todorovic in a middleweight bout between developing prospects seeking breakthrough performances.

Zachary Resse has shown flashes of potential with well-rounded skills and improved fight IQ. His wrestling base provides a foundation, while his striking continues developing. Resse’s ability to mix takedowns with striking exchanges keeps opponents guessing.

Dusko Todorovic brings European striking experience and knockout power. The Serbian’s boxing combinations and counter-striking ability make him dangerous in exchanges. His takedown defense has been tested but shows room for improvement against persistent wrestlers.

Preliminary Card Highlights

Flyweight Action: Brazilian Showdown

Jafel Filho squares off against Allan Nascimento in flyweight action, representing a clash between Brazilian fighters with different strengths.

Filho’s grappling-heavy approach contrasts with Nascimento’s more well-rounded skill set. Both fighters represent the depth of Brazil’s flyweight talent pool and will look to make statements with impressive performances.

Women’s Bantamweight: Experience vs. Youth

Ketlen Vieira meets Macy Chiasson in women’s bantamweight competition, pairing a former title challenger against an athletic rising contender.

Vieira’s experience at the highest levels of women’s bantamweight competition provides valuable insight into championship-level preparation. Her technical striking and grappling make her a complete threat at 135 pound.

Chiasson’s athletic gifts and improving technique suggest significant upside. Her ability to adapt mid-fight and make necessary adjustments could prove crucial against a veteran like Vieira.

Boxing Weekend Showcase

Saturday Night Boxing: Plant Returns

Caleb Plant faces Jose Armando Resendiz on Saturday, Mei 31, 2025, marking the former super middleweight champion’s return to action. This bout will be broadcast on Amazon Prime from Las Vegas, Nevada.

Kaleb Loji represents one of boxing’s most technically sound fighters. The former IBF super middleweight champion’s boxing IQ and defensive awareness make him a difficult puzzle for any opponent. Plant’s jab establishes distance and timing, while his footwork creates angles for counter-opportunities.

Plant’s recent setback against Canelo Alvarez provided a valuable learning experience in making championship-level adjustments. His ability to implement lessons learned from that bout and maintain his technical advantages will be crucial moving forward.

Jose Armando Resendiz enters as a live underdog with legitimate upset potential. His pressure-heavy fighting style and willingness to engage in exchanges could create problems for any fighters who prefers operating at a distance.

Resendiz’s success depends on closing distance, roughing up Plant on the inside, and making the fight ugly. His conditioning and ability to maintain pressure throughout rounds will determine his upset chances.

Jermall Charlo Returns

Jermall Charlo faces Thomas LaManna in what marks the return of one of boxing’s most talented middleweights. Charlo’s extended absence from active competition raises questions about ring rust and timing.

Jermall Charlo possesses elite-level power and boxing ability. His left hook can end fights instantly, while his overall skill set places him among the division’s best talents. The long layoff creates uncertainty about his current form and motivation.

Charlo’s jab sets up power shots effectively, and his ability to fight effectively at range makes him versatile. His return bout selection suggests a careful approach to returning to championship-level activity.

Thomas LaManna provides a suitable opponent for Charlo’s comeback. His durability and willingness to engage should provide adequate testing without overwhelming risk for the returning champion.

Rising Contender Action

Kyrone Davis meets Yoenli Hernandez in supporting action that could have implications for future title contention in their respective weight classes.

Davis represents American boxing’s developing talent pipeline, with technical skills and improving power. His amateur background provides a solid foundation for professional success.

Hernandez brings international experience and proven durability. His ability to make adjustments mid-fight and capitalize on any opponent’s mistakes makes him a dangerous opponent for any fighter.

Friday Night Boxing

Manuel Gallegos faces Khalil Coe on Friday, Mei 30, 2025, from Guadalajara, Mexico, kicking off the weekend’s boxing action. This bout will be available on DAZN.

The international setting provides an excellent atmosphere for competitive boxing. Both fighters enter with points to prove and opportunities to establish themselves in their respective divisions.

Analysis and Predictions

UFC Vegas 107 Outlook

The Blanchfield vs. Barber main event represents genuine title eliminator potential in the women’s flyweight division. Both fighters sit near championship contention, making this bout crucial for future title shot considerations.

Blanchfield’s grappling advantages appear significant on paper, but Barber’s athletic gifts and improved fight IQ could create competitive exchanges. The fight likely comes down to Barber’s takedown defense and ability to create damage during stand-up exchanges.

The co-main event between Gamrot and Klein provides excellent stylistic contrast. Gamrot’s wrestling should prove decisive unless Klein can implement a perfect gameplan of distance management and takedown defense.

Boxing Event Analysis

Plant’s return represents significant interest for boxing fans. His technical skills remain elite-level, but questions about motivation and ring timing following the Canelo defeat create intrigue.

Charlo’s comeback carries more uncertainty due to his extended absence. His natural talent suggests success against LaManna, but ring rust and timing issues could create competitive moments.

Irish Boxing has always valued our Olympic journey – from our first team of 9 boxers at Paris 1924, to winning 19 medals over the last 100 years and maintaining our standing as Team Ireland’s most successful Olympic sport. We have more Olympic podiums to climb, and more medals to win. Our joining of World Boxing today ensures that.”

Undefeated Super Featherweight Signs With Rising Management Company on Pursuit of World Championship

DALLAS – May 28, 2025 - Undefeated rising super featherweight Dominique “Trapp” Francis has become the latest rising star to join forces with Fighters First Management, adding another exciting blue-chip contender to the company’s growing roster of talent.

The 24-year-old Francis (16-0, 10 KOs) announced his contender status in his last outing, upsetting the previously undefeated Julio Carrera Lugo via a dominant fourth-round knockout last October. A native of Miami who represents his Haitian heritage in the ring, Francis is trained by renowned coach Derik Santos, along with his father Smith Francis, and will look to capitalize off the momentum from his most recent victory with the help of Fighters First.

“I’m very grateful for this opportunity to sign with Fighters First Management,” said Francis, who will be returning to the ring this summer. “I’m ready to take my career to the next level with the right team behind me.”

Fighters First President Jolene Mizzone and CEO Adrian Clark each expressed their belief in Francis’ long-term prospects as he joins the company that helped guide reigning WBO Welterweight World Champion Brian Norman to championship gold.

“When I first started talking to Dominique, his father and Derik Santos, I knew that Dom had the ‘It’ factor, Bukan sahaja di gelanggang, but outside of it,” said Mizzone. “He has a great team already and I look forward to joining them and going on this ride together.”

“I’m looking forward to Dominique showing his talents inside and outside the ring,” said Clark. “We’re glad to have him in the Fighters First family and excited about what’s to come.”

Francis turned pro in 2019 following an impressive amateur career that included a championship-winning performance at the 2016 USA Junior Olympics and a run to the final of the 2017 USA Youth Open Tournament. Despite turning pro as a teenager, Francis delivered stoppages in six of his first seven outings and has since shown his ability to compete in the later rounds, winning 10-round decisions in August 2022 and June 2023.

Having recently spent time in the gym working alongside boxing superstar Terence Crawford, Francis believes he is putting together the experience that will eventually help him reach his superstar potential.

“It was a pleasure sharing gym time with a champion like Crawford,” said Francis. “Watching his moves and preparation was a tremendous learning moment. We chopped it up a bit, and I definitely picked up some knowledge being around that level of greatness.”

Super middleweight division to open up, Darius Fulghum plans to make his move

Friday night vs. Bektemir MelikuzievStreaming live on DAZN from Las Vegas
LOS ANGELES (Mei 28, 2025) – So much is on the line Friday night when undefeated Darius “DFG” Fulgham (14-0, 12 KOs) takes on Bektemir “Bully” Melikuziev (15-1, 10 KOs) in what amounts to a World Boxing Association (WBA) super middleweight world title eliminator at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas.

“There is going to be separation in the super middleweight division,” Fulghum explained. "(WBA Interim Champion Caleb) Plant fights the day after my fight in Las Vegas, but ‘Canelo’ (Alvarez) holds all the cards.”

The key question, Walau bagaimanapun, is how long Alvarez will maintain complete control of the division?

Undisputed Super Middleweight World Champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (69-22, 39 KOs) rules the 168-pound division and the 34-year-old, who has been a professional boxer since 2005, now only fights twice a year to celebrate Cinco de Mayo (Mei) and Mexican Independence Day (September) weekends.

Boxing’s ultimate rainmaker reportedly signed a four-fight agreement with Riyadh Season, which kicked off May 4 with a dominant 12-round unanimous decision over previously undefeated William Scull (23-1, 9 KOs).

Canelo has a mega-fight set versus another future Hall of Famer, Terence Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs), pada September 12 di Las Vegas. If “Canelo” completes his Riyadh Season deal, the Mexican will only be left with two more required fights in 2025.

Even if he doesn’t retire after the Crawford fight, “Canelo” will still have four mandatory defenses to make or be stripped of his titles. The winner of Fulghum vs. Melikuziev will position himself as a leading WBA world contender, if not its mandatory challenger.

The only super middleweights rated higher by the WBA than No. 3 Melikuziev and No. 4 Fulghum are Plant (23-2, 14 KOs), Adakah Tidak. 1 Christian Mbilli (27-0, 23 KOs), dan Tiada. 2 Lester Martinez (19-0, 18 KOs), of Guatemala.

Plant is fighting WBA No. 15 Jose Armando Resendiz (15-2, 11 KOs) the day after Melikuziev vs. Fulghum, also in Las Vegas, on the same card as former world champion Jermall Charlo (33-0, 22 KOs) vs. Thomas LaManna (39-5-1, 18 KOs). Plant vs. Charlo, assuming both are victorious, are rumored to be on a collision course for their next fights.

Mbilli, a French Olympian living in Canada, will be dropped from his No. 1 WBA ranking when he faces World Boxing Council (WBA) Interim Super Middleweight Champion Maciej Sulecki (33-3, 13 KOs) pada Jun 27ke-, in their title fight for the vacant WBC Super Middleweight Championship in Quebec City.

“This eliminator sets-up everything for me and I’m all business,” Fulghum said. “I won’t make it anything more than it is because each fight I’ve had was extra important; I wouldn’t be here if I had lost any of my fights. There’s no added pressure because this is an eliminator and there will be a lot more to come after this Friday night.”

The 28-year-old Fulghum, fighting out of Houston, has his fight against Melikuziev, yang 2016 Olympic silver medalist from Uzbekistan, in its proper perspective.

“This eliminator sets-up everything for me and I’m all business,” Fulghum said. “But I won’t make it anything more than it is because each fight I’ve had were extra important; I wouldn’t be here if I had lost any of my fights. There’s no added pressure because this is an eliminator because there will be a lot more to come after this Friday night.”

Fulghum was a decorated amateur boxer who was ranked No. 1 in the USA as a heavyweight, but as a professional he’s fought strictly as a super middleweight. Beliau adalah 2018 National Golden Gloves Tournament Champion, and he also won the 2020 A.S.. Olympic Team Trials. Somehow, he accomplished this while he was earning a nursing degree from Prairie View A & M University during COVID-19.

Fulghum is working with 3 Pengurusan Mata (3 PM), which has a growing stable of gifted boxers including WBA & WBO Cruiserweight World Champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (47-1, 30 KOs), WBO No. 1/WBA No. 2-rated world super flyweight title challenger John “Scrappy” Ramirez (14-1, 9 KOs), former world heavyweight champion/WBC No. 4-rated Oleksandr “Nails” Gvozdyk (21-2, 17 KOs), former WBA Inter-Continental Light Heavyweight Champion Kareem “Supreme” Hackett (12-1, 6 KOs) and German junior welterweight Simon “Saucy” Vollmer (6-0, 2 KOs).
