All three stops will showcase top USA boxers that have won numerous international medals.
Boston’s stop, which is presented by Budweiser, will feature three World Championship medalists, אַרייַנגערעכנט 2017 Elite World Championship bronze medalist Troy Isley (Alexandra, וואַ.), who just earned a silver at the 2018 Strandja Tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria last month, ווי געזונט ווי 2016 Youth World Champions Delante Johnson (קליוולאַנד, אָהיאָ) און 2016 Youth World Championship bronze medalist Richard Torrez (Tulare, קאַליף.). Team USA’s second dual at Springfield’s MassMutal Center on מאַרץ 15 will be headlined once again Isley and Johnson, as well as their 2017 World Championship teammate Quinton Randall (Humble, טעקסאַס) will join them on this leg of the tour, צוזאמען מיט 2017 National Champion and Continental Championship silver medalist Oshae Jones (Toledo, אָהיאָ). “I am a true Irishman who developed through a system that won multiple titles and I was the Irish Team captain for five years. I’m helping develop strong relations between USA and Ireland that can help both programs. Ireland has been among the best of the world – amazing considering the geographical size of Ireland — with its fighters’ great hearts along with their technique and skill. There’s a lot of talent and resources in the states, but amateur boxers have been taught to develop skills more for professional boxing. Here there is a variety of different ethnic groups: Mexicans, African-American and Caucasians, צו. It’s truly a melting pot and each has a unique style of boxing. We are now providing coaching education for US programs to be sustainable long term.”

Many Irish and Irish-American boxers have fought in the Greater Boston area, some born and others resettling there. The tradition started back in the 19טה century with “The Boston Strongboy,” יוחנן. ל. He later worked with Irish heavyweight champion קעווין “The Clones Colossus” McBride (35-10-1, 29 קאָס), who went on to knock Tyson out and into retirement. McBride, who still lives in Dorchester, was a stablemate of former Team Ireland head coach and current Team USA head coach, בילי וואַלש, at the European Games. Both were also Ireland Olympians, ריספּעקטיוולי, אין 1988 און 1992.
Another Ireland Olympian, Wayne “Pocket Rocket” McCullough (27-7, 18 קאָס), moved to Las Vegas from Northern Ireland. The luck of the Irish wasn’t with him in Boston in 1997, when he lost his World Boxing Council (וובק) bantamweight title at Hynes Convention Center, by way of a 12-round split decision to דניאל זאַראַגאָוזאַ.
Arguably the most famous and popular Irish-American boxer, outside of Sullivan and דזשאַק דעמפּסי, is Lowell junior welterweight “איריש” מיקקי וואַרד (38-13, 27 קאָס), who was involved in three Fight of the Year award winners, two from his epic trilogy with אַרטוראָ גאַטטי, and the first boxer with more than 10 career losses to earn a $1-million purse. Ward’s life was portrayed by another Boston icon, actor Mark Wahlberg, in the award-winning movie, “The Fighter.”
Irish boxers are still coming to Boston to fight. Locally-based Murphys Boxing has promoted numerous shows in Boston featuring world-class boxers such as גערי “נאָגל” אָוסאַלאַוואַן and undefeated super bantamweight TJ “מאַכט” Doheny (18-0, 13 קאָס), as well as undefeated rising stars such as “Sting” Ray Mayotte and New England & Massachusetts heavyweight champion Niall Kennedy (10-0, 6 קאָס).
The Irish team will announce its boxers later this month after the conclusion of its National Championships.

Isamary Aquino Brings Home Bronze Medal

GUWAHATI, אינדיע (נאָוועמבער 26, 2017) — Coachella, California-native Citlalli Ortiz closed out her impressive 2017 Women’s Youth World Championships campaign with a split decision victory over Russia’s Nataliya Sychugova to take her first major international title in Guwahati, אינדיע.
“Today feels like one of the best days of my life,” stated Ortiz following her win. “נאָך דעם קאַמף, I doubted myself, but I am extremely happy I pulled out the win and it feels amazing being a world champion.”
Ortiz gold medal closes out a strong showing from the young American delegation. Team USA’s other medal, a bronze, was won yesterday by Isamary Aquino of Universal City, טעקסאַס.
“I am extremely proud of my performance at my first international tournament,” said Aquino following her medal ceremony. “It was an honor to be able to represent Team USA and bring home a world championship medal.”
The remaining members of the team included: Aidyl Cardenas (Calexico, קאַליף.),Diana Estrada (Hillsboro, Oregon), Heaven Garcia (El Monte, קאַליף.), Roma Martinez (Humble, טעקסאַס), Sharahaya Moreu (Albuquerque, נ.מ.) און Amy Salinas(Las Cruces, נ.ם).

Team USA finishes 1-1 on second day; six Americans to enter ring today
GUWAHATI, אינדיע (נאוועמבער. 21, 2017) — Day two of the 2017 Women’s Youth World Championships in Guwahati, India brought two members of Team USA into the ring looking to advance one step closer to a world title.
וועלטערווייט Citlalli Ortiz (Coachella, קאַליף.) grabbed Team USA’s first win of the championships with a split decision victory over Nadezhda Ryabets of Kazakhstan. She will return to the ring on מיטוואָך, נאוועמבער. 22 for a quarterfinals match-up against
The second American in today’s field, מידדלעוועיגהט Sharahya Moreu (Albuquerque, נ.מ.), fell short of taking the judges card over Russian Anastasiia Shamonova.
מאָרגן the remaining six members of Team USA will make their tournament debut, אַרייַנגערעכנט 2015 Junior World Champion Heaven Garcia (El Monte, קאַליף.) The other five boxers will all be making their international debuts.
