Ο 2001 Fight of the Year was held July 13, 2001, at Hampton Beach Casino in Hampton, NH., and it is still considered one of the greatest matches ever broadcast on ESPN. “Ιρλανδικός” Micky Ward won an incredibly entertaining, back-and-forth junior welterweight match-up with “boxing cult” hero Emanuel Augustus, by way of a 10-round unanimous decision that was much closer than the judges’ scoring indicated (98-90, 96-91, 96-94).

Bernard Dunne celebrating world title anniversary
Irish Team Performance Director Bernard Dunne will celebrate the ninth anniversary of his WBA super bantamweight title-winning performance, Θάλασσα. 21, 2009, the same date as the USA-Ireland Northeaster Boxing Tour stop in Manchester.

“Στο τέλος της ημέρας,” the 54-year-old Walsh admitted, “it is an unusual situation for me. But I’ve been coaching here two years and Team USA is my team now. I didn’t come here for just a few years. When I eventually leave, Team USA will have developed continuity and a solid program.
“I am a true Irishman who developed through a system that won multiple titles and I was the Irish Team captain for five years. I’m helping develop strong relations between USA and Ireland that can help both programs. Ireland has been among the best of the world – amazing considering the geographical size of Ireland — with its fighters’ great hearts along with their technique and skill. There’s a lot of talent and resources in the states, but amateur boxers have been taught to develop skills more for professional boxing. Here there is a variety of different ethnic groups: Mexicans, African-American and Caucasians, πάρα πολύ. It’s truly a melting pot and each has a unique style of boxing. We are now providing coaching education for US programs to be sustainable long term.”

The tradition started back in the 19ου century with “The Boston Strongboy,” Γιάννης. L. Irish boxers from Greater Boston continued this rich tradition through the end of the 19ου and beginning of the 20ου centuries with world champions and top contenders such as welterweight Paddy Duffy (31-3,16, 18 KOs), Lawrence welterweight Mike Glover(Cavanaugh – 30-5-5, 16 KOs), and Charlestown welterweight Μικρόφωνο “Twin” Sullivan(28-6-16, 17 KOs), and Newton bantamweight Jimmy Walsh (33-10-20, 14 KOs)
In the 1950’s, Woburn lightweight “Ιρλανδικός” Tommy Collins (61-12, 44 KOs) was dropped 10 times at the Boston Garden by world champion Τζίμι Κάρτερ, until he finally succumbed in the fourth round. His gutsy performance, ωστόσο, earned him an appearance on the popular Ed Sullivan Show.
Arlington heavyweight Τομ McNeeley (37-14, 28 KOs), unsuccessfully fought for the world title in 1961, stopped in the fourth round of his Toronto fight versus defending champion Floyd Patterson, and McNeeley’s son, Boston-native and later Medfield resident Πέτρος “Τυφώνας” McNeeley (47-7, 30 KOs) famously was stopped in the opening round by “Σίδερο” Mike Tyson in the latter’s first fight after his release from prison.
In the 1980’s, Irish boxers made their way to Boston to fight; some returned home after their careers, others relocated in the area. McBride, who still lives in Dorchester, was a stablemate of former Team Ireland head coach and current Team USA head coach, Billy Walsh, at the European Games. Another Ireland Olympian, Wayne “Pocket Rocket” McCullough (27-7, 18 KOs), moved to Las Vegas from Northern Ireland. Arguably the most famous and popular Irish-American boxer, outside of Sullivan and Jack Dempsey, is Lowell junior welterweight “Ιρλανδικός” Micky Ward (38-13, 27 KOs), who was involved in three Fight of the Year award winners, two from his epic trilogy with Arturo Gatti, and the first boxer with more than 10 career losses to earn a $1-million purse. Ward’s life was portrayed by another Boston icon, actor Mark Wahlberg, in the award-winning movie, “The Fighter.”
Irish boxers are still coming to Boston to fight. Locally-based Murphys Boxing has promoted numerous shows in Boston featuring world-class boxers such as Gary “Spike” O'Sullivan and undefeated super bantamweight TJ “Ισχύς” Doheny (18-0, 13 KOs), as well as undefeated rising stars such as “Sting” Ray Mayotte and New England & Massachusetts heavyweight champion Νιαλ Κένεντι (10-0, 6 KOs).
The Irish team will announce its boxers later this month after the conclusion of its National Championships.

Top ερασιτεχνικό μπόξερ για να ανταγωνιστεί σε τρεις πόλεις σε όλη Μαρτίου
COLORADO SPRINGS, Αγκαλιά. (Ιανουάριος 29, 2018) — Πυγμαχία ΗΠΑ ανακοίνωσε σήμερα τις τρεις πόλεις που θα φιλοξενήσουν το 2018 ΗΠΑ vs. Η Ιρλανδία βορειοανατολικά Πυγμαχία Tour.
Βοστόνη, Μάντσεστερ (ΝΗ) και Σπρίνγκφιλντ (ΜΑ) θα υποδεχτεί δύο από τα κορυφαία ερασιτεχνική πυγμαχία ομάδες του κόσμου για φιλικό duals. Κάθε πόλη θα παρουσιάσει μέχρι 12 άκρα, ότι όλα θα μεταδοθεί ζωντανά, δωρεάν, στην ιστοσελίδα ΗΠΑ εγκιβωτισμού του.
Η περιοδεία θα ξεκινήσει Μάρτιος 12 σε συγκρότημα Royale Διασκέδαση Βοστώνης, ακολουθούμενη από matchups σχετικά Μάρτιος 15 στο MassMutual Κέντρο στο Σπρίνγκφιλντ, Μάζα. Μάντσεστερ θα κλείσει τις duals για Μάρτιος 21 στο The Manchester Downtown Hotel. Πυγμαχία θα αρχίσει στις 7:00 μ.μ. EST και στις τρεις πόλεις, και τα εισιτήρια θα διατεθούν για την αγορά τις επόμενες εβδομάδες.

Isamary Aquino Brings Home Bronze Medal

GUWAHATI, Ινδία (Νοέμβριος 26, 2017) — Coachella, California-native Citlalli Ortiz closed out her impressive 2017 Women’s Youth World Championships campaign with a split decision victory over Russia’s Nataliya Sychugova to take her first major international title in Guwahati, Ινδία.
“Today feels like one of the best days of my life,” stated Ortiz following her win. “Μετά τον αγώνα, I doubted myself, but I am extremely happy I pulled out the win and it feels amazing being a world champion.”
Ortiz gold medal closes out a strong showing from the young American delegation. Team USA’s other medal, a bronze, was won yesterday by Ισαμάρι Ακίνο of Universal City, Τέξας.
“I am extremely proud of my performance at my first international tournament,” said Aquino following her medal ceremony. “It was an honor to be able to represent Team USA and bring home a world championship medal.”
The remaining members of the team included: Aidyl Cardenas (Calexico, Καλιφόρνια.),Diana Estrada (Hillsboro, Όρεγκον), Παράδεισος Γκαρσία (Το βουνό, Καλιφόρνια.), Ρόμα Μαρτίνεθ (Ταπεινός, Τέξας), Sharahaya Moreu (Αλμπουκέρκη, Ν.Μ.) και Amy Salinas(Οι σταυροί, N.m).
This year’s Youth World Championships brought 160 of the world’s top youth female boxers from 36 different countries all vying for one of the 10 world titles up for grabs. Team USA finishes 1-1 on second day; six Americans to enter ring today
GUWAHATI, Ινδία (Νοέμβριος. 21, 2017) — Day two of the 2017 Women’s Youth World Championships in Guwahati, India brought two members of Team USA into the ring looking to advance one step closer to a world title.
Welterweight Citlalli Ortiz (Coachella, Καλιφόρνια.) grabbed Team USA’s first win of the championships with a split decision victory over Nadezhda Ryabets of Kazakhstan. She will return to the ring on Τετάρτη, Νοέμβριος. 22 for a quarterfinals match-up against
The second American in today’s field, middleweight Sharahya Moreu (Αλμπουκέρκη, Ν.Μ.), fell short of taking the judges card over Russian Anastasiia Shamonova.
