Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna to headline on Saturday, March 19 at The Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City

 
Plus the return of former world champion Imamu Mayfield

Atlantic City, NJ (February 3, 2016)–On Saturday night,  March 19, Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna will take part in the main event of a card that will take place at the Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City
.
The card is promoted by Rising Star Boxing Promotions in association withVincent M. Ponte’s Gulf Stream Promotions.
The Welterweight bout is scheduled for 8-rounds.
“We are looking forward to this event March 19th” said Debra LaManna of Rising Star Promotions.  “Our first show in December was a big  success and we are only getting better. I want to thank The Claridge Hotel for being the host to this event. We have four dates this year with March 19th as our kick off and in May as our following date. I also want to thank all the boxers that risk their lives and participate in Rising Star events to please the fans because that is what it’s all about. My mission as President is to give back to the fighters and make them feel appreciated. A big goal we have is to bring the “sport” back into boxing and not just “business”. It continues March 19th on the boardwalk in Atlantic City.”

LaManna (19-1, 7 KO’s) of nearby Millville, New Jersey will be making his second consecutive appearance at The Claridge.  LaManna won a 8-round unanimous decision over Ariel Vasquez on December 5th.

LaManna used his reach and height and worked behind his jab to keep Vasquez at bay.  As the fight wore on, LaManna started to dominate with body punches and cruised home to victory to the tune of 79-72 on two scorecards and 78-73.
The 24 year-old LaManna turned professional in 2011 and won his first sixteen bouts that were highlighted by wins over Ashandi Gibbs & Jamaal Davis.

Since suffering his only loss to world ranked Middleweight Antoine Douglas on ShoBox: The New Generation, LaManna has won three straight which includes a 6-round unanimous decision over rugged Ayi Bruce on September 26th in Beach Haven, New Jersey.

This will be LaManna’s second fight at Welterweight after moving down from Middleweight.

In the 6-round co-feature, former IBF Cruiserweight champion Imamu Mayfield will be making his long awaited comeback in a Heavyweight bout.
Mayfield of Perth Amboy, New Jersey will making his first appearance in just for 8-years.
Mayfield won the IBF Cruiserweight championship when he won a 12-round unanimous decision over Uriah Grant on November 8, 1997.  He made one defense and was stopped by Arthur Williams on October 30, 1998.
Mayfield won the USBA Cruiserweight title with 10th round stoppage over Gary Wilcox on June 30, 2001.
Mayfield has also fought world champions Juan Carlos Gomez, Krzystof Wlodarczyk and Alexander Povetkin.

Atlantic City Boxing Hall of Fame and Claridge Hotel looking to bring boxing back to the boardwalk

   
Atlantic City, NJ (February 1, 2016) – The Atlantic City Boxing Hall of Fame is proud to announce it’s alliance with with the Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City, NJ that will constitute bringing 6 events to the Historic Hotel in 2016.

Four of the events will be fight nights promoted by Rising Promotions, in the Celebrity Theatre venue with the first event being held on Saturday March 19, 2016

Two other major events are being planned which includes the inaugural induction class set for this fall as well as signature events that will appeal to boxing fans around the world.

The Atlantic City Boxing Hall of Fame has assisted various promoters over the past two years in securing events and venues and will continue it’s effort to restore the shore community to being a mecca and destination for future boxing events.

After thrilling win, LaManna & Rising Boxing Promotions build towards future 

Rising Boxing Promotions stages terrific first show
ATLANTIC CITY (DECEMBER 11, 2015)–Last Saturday night, Thomas LaManna made a successful voyage into the welterweight division by hammering out an 8-round unanimous decision over Ariel Vasquez at the Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City.
The card was presented in front of an enthusiastic crowd at the The near-sold out Claridge, which featured an In-Arena host and provided giveaways to the crowd throughout the evening.
Rising Star Promotions fight cards strive to be more fan friendly and interactive in and and out of the ring.
The success of the fights, both in the ring and at the box office already has the shore community eager for the next installment of Rising Boxing Promotions, which is tentatively scheduled for February 20th.
“The Claridge Hotel was very pleased with the quality of fights and the attendance on Saturday, ” Said Debbie LaManna of Rising Boxing Promotions.  “Our mission with the promotion is to have good and competitive fights that will have the crowd excited throughout the night   We had some in-house entertainment that had the crowd involved as well.  I think we accomplished everything we set out to do and it is a great building block for our February show.”

LaManna used a diverse arsenal of punches as featured body work, jabs and a good straight hand at various points of the fight. LaManna showed grit as Vasquez was game by occasionally sneaking in a straight left that the bigger LaManna was able to walk through. The only blemish for LaManna was that he was deducted a point for low blows in round four but he was able to by scores of 79-72 twice and 78-73.

LaManna, 148 lbs of Millville, NJ is 19-1. Vasquez, 144 lbs of Managua, Nicaragua is 12-12-2.

In the 6-round Heavyweight co-feature, Willis Lockett was able to win a 6-round unanimous decision over John Lennox.

Lockett won the bout on the strength of landing a series of flush right hands that looked good but never hurt Lennox. Lennox was more active at times and got in some telling blows but it was not enough as Lockett won by scores of 59-55 twice and 58-56.

Lockett is now 14-14-4. Lennox is 13-4.

Quian Davis made short work of Santario Holdbrooks in a scheduled four-round Heavyweight bout.

Davis was all over Holdbrooks from the opening bell and the fight lasted just 26 seconds.

Davis is 1-0-1 with 1 knockout. Holdbrooks is 0-3.

Alshamar Johnson and Villi Bello fought to an entertaining 4-round draw in a Middleweight bout.

Both guys took turns being the boss in the fight and the rounds were close and featured plenty of toe to toe action. Each fighter took a a card at 39-37. One card read even at 38-38.

Bello is 3-1-1. Johnson is 1-1-1.

The opening bout saw debuting Ecuadorian Luis Perozo score a 1st round stoppage over Davonta Steele in a scheduled 4-round Jr. Welterweight bout.

Perozo, who now resides in Queens, New York dropped Steele from a body shot and the fight was stopped at 2:11.

Perozo was making his pro debut. Steele of Concord, NC is 0-2.

Atlantic City, NJ (December 4, 2015)–THIS SATURDAY NIGHT, December 5thThomas “Cornflake” LaManna take on Ariel Vasquez in the main event of a card that will take place at the Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City.
The card is promoted by Rising Boxing Promotions in association with Vincent M. Ponte’s Gulf Stream Promotions.

Before the main event, a solid undercard made up with top fighters from New Jersey and the shore area will be featured on the undercard.
In a 6-round bout
John Lennox (13-3, 5 KO’s) of Carteret, NJ will take on Willis Lockett of Takoma Park, MD.
Lennox will be looking to get back in the win column after dropping a unanimous decision to Dan Pasciolla on August 15th.  The former college football standout has a win over Patrick Farrell (8-1-1).
Lockett is a 14 year veteran, who faced top competition such as Brian Minto, Javier Mora, Tommy Karpency, former world champion Keith Holmes, Jerson Ravelo, Aaron Pryor Jr, Tarvis Simms and Michael Seals.
He has quality wins over Tyrone Tate, Glenn Turner, Willie Williams & former world title challenger Larry Marks.
Also appearing will be undefeated Cruiserweight knockout artist Alvin Varmall (7-0-1, 7 KO’s) of Lake Place, LA battling Philly tough guy Brian Donahue in a 4-round bout.
Local Heavyweight Quian Davis of Vineland, NJ will fight Santario Holdbrooksof Kannapolis, NC in a 4-round bout of fighters who will be looking for their first win.
Alshamar Johnson (1-1) of Vineland, NJ, who is coming off a stunning stoppage over previously undefeated Nick Valliere (5-0) will take on Villi Bello (3-1, 1 KO) of Queens, NY in a Super Welterweight bout.
Luis Perozo of New York will make his pro debut against Davonte Steele of North Carolina in a Lightweight bout.

LaManna makes Welterweight debut this Saturday against Ariel Vasquez at the Claridge in Atlantic City

Atlantic City, NJ (December 1, 2015)–On Saturday night, December 5th, Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna take on Ariel Vasquez in the main event of a card that will take place at the Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City.

The fight card will also be in conjunction with Ray McCline of The Atlantic City Boxing Hall of Fame.

LaManna (18-1, 7 KO’s) of nearby Millville, New Jersey & Vasquez (12-11-2, 8 KO’s) of Managua, Nicaragua will take part in a 8-round welterweight bout.

Vasquez is coming off a majority decision defeat to undefeated Thomas Mattice on November 25th in Erie, PA.

This will be the maiden voyage in the 147-pound division for the 6’2″ LaManna.  He spent his career at Middleweight and Jr. Middleweight.

I don’t know much about Vasquez other than he’s a southpaw. I’m in great shape and will be ready for the task at hand,” said LaManna.

“I feel good at the weight. I haven’t had a problem maintaining a decent weight so It wasn’t as difficult to make it. The welterweight division is wide open and I see opportunities coming in the near future.”

“Rising  Promotions and Vincent Ponte’s Gulf Stream Promotions is looking to have a huge breakout 2016 and bring boxing back to Atlantic City, but first we have to get past Ariel Vasquez.”
LaManna’s trainer, Raul “Chino”  Rivas has had success moving fighter’s to their proper weight class and he feels LaManna will benefit greatly fighting at Welterweight.
“This will be his first fight at 147 pounds”, said Rivas.  “Camp has been excellent and he is in great shape.  I believe he has been fighting out of his weight class.  He is not a 154 pounder, let alone a 160 pound fighter.  He is a Welterweight and people will see his knockout ratio improve.”
“Thomas will be sharp for this fight.  He is still a young fighter and by next year, you will see his strength mature into his Welterweight frame,” finished Rivas.

Vasquez, 28 years old turned professional in 2005 and fought his first 11 fights in his native Nicaragua.  He twice fought Juan Antonio Rodriguez for the WBC Youth Featherweight title and held undefeated Eliezer Landas (10-0) to a draw in a bout for the WBA Fedecentro Super Bantamweight title.
He has faced five undefeated fighters including his last three.
In the 6-round co-feature, Welterweight Anthony “Juice” Young (11-1, 5 KO’s) of Atlantic City will take on Cherry Hill’s Anthony Prescott (5-7-2, 2 KO’s) in a battle for New Jersey bragging rights.
The 27 year-old native of Atlantic City has a record of 11-1 with five knockouts, will be making his 5th appearance in his hometown.  He is coming off a 6-round unanimous decision over Jonathan Garcia on August 15th in Atlantic City.

Prescott has wins over undefeated Anthony Miller (1-0) and Anthony Abbruzzese (3-0).  He is coming off a 6-round unanimous decision defeat to Kareem Martin onAugust 28th in Washington, D.C.

The fight card will also be in conjunction with Ray McCline of The Atlantic City Boxing Hall of Fame.

The 23 year-old LaManna turned professional in 2011 and won his first sixteen bouts that were highlighted by wins over Ashandi Gibbs & Jamaal Davis.

That loss, which was a nationally televised fight with Antoine Douglas, gave LaManna the realization that he should move down in weight and the former Middleweight contender will now campaign as a Welterweight.
LaManna, who has taken more control of his career with his formation of Rising Star Promotions, has been very active as this will be his 3rd fight in 4 months.

Reading, PA (August 26, 2015)– On Friday night, September 18, boxing returns to the Claridge Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City as Kings Promotions returns for a big night of action.
In the main event, Travis Kauffman will take on former world title challenger Epifanio Mendoza.
Kauffman of Reading, PA has a record of 29-1 with 21 knockouts and is riding an 11-fight win streak that has spanned 5 and a half years.
Kauffman has defeated the likes of Malachy Farrell (16-1), William Shahan (7-1), Chris Koval (24-6), Vincent Thompson (13-1) and in his last bout he took out Richard Carmack in one-round on August 14 in Newark, New Jersey.
Mendoza is a grizzled veteran has fought everybody from Jr. Middleweight to Heavyweight.  He has prodigious knockout power as his record stands at 41-21-1 with 35 knockouts.
The native of Baranquilla, Colombia has wins over Tukunbo Olajide (17-0), Rubin Williams (19-0), Alejandro Garcia (7-1), Carlos Negron (13-0) & Ray Recio (6-0).  He is coming off a 3rd round stoppage over Tomas Orozco Rodriguez on July 25 in Barinquilla, Colombia.
The co-feature will be an 8-round Heavyweight bout that will feature the American return of former world title challenger “Fast” Eddie Chambers (41-4, 22 KO’s) taking on Galen Brown (41-31-1, 25 KO’s) of St. Joseph, Missouri.
Also appearing in an 8-round bout will be Heavyweight Keith Tapia (15-0, 10 KO’s) of Santurce, Puerto Rico taking on Roberto Santos (12-2, 5 KO’s) of Nuevo Laredo, Mexico.

After 31 second knockout, Dawejko looks forward to ShoBox date with Visinia on August 28 

Philadelphia, PA (August 18, 2015)– On August 7 at Ballys in Atlantic City, Joey Dawejko made quick work of Robert Dunton to the tune of 31 second-1 punch stoppage and now the Philadelphia Heavyweight looks to an August 28 showdown with good friend Natu Visinia in a bout scheduled for 8-rounds at The D Las Vegas.  The bout will be televised live on ShoBox: The New Generation.
Just days after the win over Dunton, Dawejko boarded a plane with trainer Buddy McGirt and assistant trainer Greg Hackett and went right back to work to begin preparations for the fight with Visinia.
“We took that fight just to get Joey back in a winning frame of mind.  After the fight with Amir Mansour, Buddy began correcting went wrong in that fight.  The Mansour fight was the first fight with Buddy and by the time August 28 comes around, Joey and Buddy will basically been working for 10 straight weeks.  I believe that the familiarity will produce the results that we are looking for,” said Dawejko’s manager Mark Cipparone of Club 1957 Management.

LENNOX SET FOR COMEBACK THIS SATURDAY NIGHT AGAINST DAN PASCIOLLA AT THE PLAYGROUND IN ATLANTIC CITY

 

Atlantic City, NJ (August 12, 2015)–John Lennox made a call in February to his long time manager and good friend Rich Masini. The call was relatively long.

The contents of the call were passionate on both sides because the two guys who have had the same goal and same mission for years, Win a title! The manager and the fighter each laid out their case, but the crux of this call was between two great friends who have a great respect for each other and they both agreed to do their part in the quest of the goal.

That quest begins this Saturday night when Lennox (13-2, 5 KO’s takes on Dan Pasciolla (3-1) in a 6-round Heavyweight bout at The Playground in Atlantic City.

Shortly thereafter, John walked into the gym and met with his longtime trainer Charles Thomas and Masini.

John was weighing 249 pounds and a long way from his ideal fighting weight.

“I took time off. I got married and had a child plus I work in Manhattan as a Lost Prevention Manager at Barneys. Things are going well now.”

What transpired over the next six months was the epitome of hard work and dedication with one vision of which will come to fruition on Saturday night night in Atlantic City.

Lennox will enter the ring after a 22 month layoff, when he takes on the formidable Pacsiolla.

“I knew what my problems were and now it’s time to get back to boxing. I want something out of boxing.”

Lennox is an accomplished professional and is ready to go after the long layoff.

Masini has gone on record stating that John is in great shape and we have had great southpaw sparring. On August 15 in Atlantic City, it will be John’s night to prove he is back.

“I know Pasciolla is a tall southpaw but that should not be a problem I am working to put on a good show.”

“I love this kid and when he is in the ring, I am with him,” said Masini. “I have the utmost respect for John and we expect a great night against a solid opponent. We expect John to have a large support group to be in the crowd rooting him on.

John has had great trainers over the years, including long time and first time trainer Charles Thomas. John has also trained under Buddy McGirt. Because of other obligations, Buddy will not be able to be here with us on fight night but he is expected to be in John’s corner in upcoming fights.

Masini gushes over Thomas great work with Lennox. Thomas and Lennox have a long bond which gives Lennox a great comfort level .

GH3 Promotions signs undefeated Jr. Welterweight Keenan Smith

Nutley, NJ (August 7, 2015) – GH3 Promotions is proud to announce the signing of undefeated Jr. Welterweight Keenan Smith to an exclusive promotional contract.
Smith of Philadelphia has a record of 7-0 with 2 knockouts.
Smith turned pro in 2009 and is regarded as a highly skilled professional.
“It’s a pleasure to sign with GH3 Promotions.  I like the way they move their fighters and they are starting to do big things and I feel I fit in with that,” said Smith.
“I like the way Vito Mielnicki operates.  They have been getting a lot of television dates and I look forward to showcasing my skills throughout the country.”
Smith was 72-4 as an amateur and was a National Golden Gloves champion as well as a Jr. Olympic Olympic champion.
When asked about his short and long term goals, the 24 year-old Smith said, “I am looking for eight fights in the next year and soon after that I should be in position to crack the top-15.”
Smith should be off to a good start to reaching those goals as he has two fights scheduled in the next six weeks.
“I am looking to fight August 15 in Atlantic City and then I am penciled in to fightSeptember 18 in Las Vegas and then again in November on television.  That when I believe people will start to take notice that I am coming and establish myself as a legitimate contender on my to a world title.”
