LAS VEGAS, NV (November 2, 2019) – Devin Haney will face Alfredo Santiago in the first defense of his WBC World Lightweight title at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles on Saturday November 9, live on DAZN in the US, Sky Sports in the UK and distributed globally on FITE.

Haney (23-0 15 KOs) was elevated to full champion at the recent WBC Convention in Cancun, Mexico, following his dominant performance against Zaur Abdullaev in New York in September where he overpowered the unbeaten Russian over four blistering rounds to force Abdullaev to retire, and land ‘The Dream’ the interim belt at 135lbs.
 
Now Haney makes the short trip from his Las Vegas home to Los Angeles where he faces Santiago (12-0 4 KOs) in his maiden defence, the unbeaten Dominican talent, who turns 25 the day after the fight, will be on looking to derail Haney’s reign as champion at the first hurdle.
 
“I’m happy we got this deal done,” said Haney. “I’m not just a WBC World Champion that’s holding somebody else’s belt. I’m the sole champion, and I will defend the Lightweight World title on November 9. I’ve been working hard and I’m extremely focused.  This will be the perfect gift to myself for my 21st birthday.

Billy Joe Saunders (28-0 13 KOs) makes his American debut and defends his WBO World Super-Middleweight title against unbeaten Argentine Marcelo Coceres (28-0-1 15 KOs), and he is joined on the card by a quartet of Eddie Hearn’s talented rising US stars in Nikita Ababiy (7-0 6 KOs), Diego Pacheco (6-0 5 KOs), Reshat Mati (4-0 ) and Alexis Espino (4-0 3 KOs).

Before a euphoric crowd at the Tomás Donés Coliseum of Fajardo, Puerto Rico, Abimael ‘Hands of Stone’ Ortíz (6-0-1, 4 KOs) of Cidra, won by way of a sudden 5th round technical knockout over former Olympian Jantony Ortíz (8-1, 4 KOs) of Humacao, in a scheduled eight rounds fight at the super bantamweight division.

 

 

 

Jantony visited the canvas twice in the fifth round by body shots.

 

 

 

“Thanks to the fans that came together to the fight. Jantony is a great opponent, but we knew we had to beat him, but that was not going to be a easy task because of his great boxing abilities. For the vacant WBC FECARBOX Lightweight title, Dominican Alfredo ‘Ojo’ Santiago (10-0, 3 KOs) looked impressive by winning by 4th-round TKO over dangerous Argentine Cristian Miño (19-2, 17 KOs) in 10 rounds agreed duel.

Santiago, has notable victories over former Mexican Olympian Arturo Santos Reyes and world contender Jayson Velez, of Puerto Rico.

 

 

 

The freshly ranked # 20 by the World Boxing Council (WBC) at junior welterweight Subriel Matias (11-0, 11KOs), of Fajardo, scored a impressive 4th-round TKO victory over Breidis Prescott (31-13, 22 KOs).

 

 

 

Matias sent Prescott to the canvas in the third round with a resounding left hook to the face and the next round, Matias landed a upper to the jaw that sent the Colombian to the canvas again, and after overcoming the referee eight count, he retired from combat.

 

 

 

In his last presentation, Matías defeated Mexican prospect Adrián ‘Diamante’ Estrella (28-1, 24 KOs) by technical knockout in the fourth round. In addition, the Puerto Rican puncher has fast wins over Jeffrey Fontánez, former Venezuelan Olympian Patrick López, Brazilian puncher Joaquim Carneiro and world challenger Daulis Prescott, brother of Breidis.

 

 

 

Jovanie ‘El Lobito’ Santiago (11-0-1, 8 KOs), of Dorado defeated by technical knockout in the fifth round the Colombian Andres Figueroa (9-3, 5 KOs) in a duel scheduled for 8 rounds in the maximum weight of 142 pounds.

 

 

 

Santiago, defeated in his last fight former world champion DeMarcus Corley by unanimous decision. Also in his resume he has a victory over Antonio ‘El Cacique’ Ortíz, who was unbeaten in six starts.

 

 

 

In other matches, Angel ‘El Gallo’ Suárez (8-2, 3 KOs) of Guaynabo, defeated by unanimous decision Francisco ‘Monkey’ Rodríguez (4-4-1) of Santa Isabel. The judges scored 60-54, 60-54 and 59-55.

At the maximum weight of 153 pounds, Patrick Cora won by technical knockout in the second round over Orlando Fernandez. At 135 pounds, Steven Ruidiaz, of Canovanas, knocked out Héctor González of Coamo in two rounds. At 130 pounds, Jose Aguirre, of Arecibo, dominated Michael Estrada, of Fajardo. The three judges scored 40-36. In the bantamweight division Alexis Diaz beat Luis Torres by majority decision. The judges scored 40-37, 39-37 and 38-38. Debutant Bryan Álvarez of Cayey, won by unanimous decision over Emilio Rivera at 122 pounds.

Impressive victories by Subriel Matías and Alfredo Santiago against world title challengers in Fajardo, PR

Las Night, before a packed house in the Fajardo Municipal Equestrian Park in Puerto Rico, Subriel Matías and Alfredo ‘Ojo’ Santiago, both from Fajardo, were victorious against former world title challengers.

 

 

 

 

 

 

In the main event, Subriel Matías (9-0, 9 KO) defeated by technical knockout at 33 seconds of the third round, Colombian and former world contender, Daulis Prescott (31-7, 23 KO) in a 10-round fight in the 140 pounds. Prescott visited the canvas twice in the second round and once in the third to end the fight.

 

 

 

 

 

 

In his resume, Matías has impressive victories by knockout on rising prospect Jeffrey Fontánez, former Venezuelan Olympian Patrick López and Brazilian puncher, Joaquim Carneiro.

 

 

 

 

 

 

In the co-main event, Alfredo ‘Ojo’ Santiago (9-0, 2 KO) defeated by unanimous decision the former world contender, Juan Jose Montes (25-7-2, 15 KO) of Mexico, in a 10 round at the maximum weight of 133 pounds. The three judges scored 100-90.

Lightweight division, Darrell Rivera (1-0, 1 KO) of San Juan defeated by technical knockout at 2:56 of the third round to Carlos Diaz (0-1) of Bayamón.

 

 

 

 

 

 

In the flyweight, Oscar Marrero (1-1, 1 KO) Luquillo won by technical knockout at 2:20 of the second round over Christian Santos (0-5) of Mayagüez.

Subriel Matías Matthew and Alfredo ‘Ojo’ Santiago are set to return in February

Fajardo, Puerto Rico – WBA ranked #13, Alfredo ‘Ojo’ Santiago (8-0, 2 KO’s) and highly touted prospect, Subriel Matías Matthew (8-0, 8 KO’s), both from Fajardo, will be seeing action on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the Fajardo Municipal Equestrian Park. Opponents will be announced soon by Fresh Productions.

 

 

With eight fights each, both fighters already have very impressive victories over prospects, world title contenders, and former Olympians.

 

 

Campaigning at the lightweight division, Santiago, a native of Moca, Dominican Republic, has three notable victories over: former Mexican Olympian, Arturo Santos Reyes by unanimous decision ( UD ), former world title contender, Jayson ‘La Maravilla’ Velez by majority decision, and the always seasoned, Andrés ‘Pajita’ Navarro by UD.

 

 

On his part, Matías Matthew, who is in the junior welterweight division, defeated in his fourth professional fight, rising prospect, Jeffrey Fontánez from Caguas by technical knockout in the second round.

 

 

In his last presentation, held in November at the Hotel Jaragua in the Dominican Republic, Matías Matthew, won also by technical knockout in the second round, over former Venezuelan Olympian, Patrick Lopez.

 

 

“As usual in Fresh Productions, the opponents of ‘Ojo’ and Subriel will be of great quality,” said promoter Juan Orengo, “We already have in our sights several Mexican fighters who are good and will be in great condition heading to February 17.  We always look for more experienced opponents to face my fighters because that’s what a real development is all about. We do not sell dreams to the fans or to my boxers, they have to fight hard because they need to be ready for the big stage in the near future”.
