NEW YORK TOROPO (July 15, 2025) - Three nako, two-division World ChampionMiyo Yoshida (18-5) is tired of waiting for her mandated International Boxing Federation (IBF) Bantamweight world title shot as its No. 1-rated mandatory challenger.
Yoshida won the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Super Flyweight title in 2019 le 2021. On December 9, 2022, she fought in San Francisco as a late replacement on only two weeks’ tsebiso, impressively defeating IBF Bantamweight World titleholderEbanie Bridges (9-1) by unanimous decision over 10 o garela (99-91, 99-91, 97-93).
Last October, Yoshida lost her IBF title in a controversial 10-round decision toShurretta Metcalf (14-5-1, 2 Kos). Last Friday night, Metcalf lost the IBF belt toCherneka Johnson (18-2, 7 Kos), the WBA Bantamweight World Champion, kaKatie Taylor-Amanda Serrano IIIundercard at Madison Square Garden. Le trong win, Johnson also scooped up the vacated World Boxing Council (WBC) le World Boxing Organization (WBO) lefatše litlotla.
When Metcalf defeated Yoshida, it was with highly questionable tallies of 99-91, 97-93, le 96-94. Her manager, Attorney Keith Sullivan, appealed the result to the IBF, arguing that Yoshida’s accurate jabs and higher punch connection rate should have earned her the win. Sullivan’s appeal was strongly supported by COMPUBOX statistics: Yoshida out-landed Metcalf in eight of the 10 rounds by a margin of 96 ho 64 in total connects, ho akarelletsa le 49-17 edge in jabs and 30 ho 16 in punches landed to the body. Yoshida’s defensive skills were also on display, with Metcalf landing just nine percent of her overall punches thrown.
The IBF ruled in January that Yoshida was its No. 1 e tlamang challenger, requiring the titleholder to defend against Miyo by this October.
Yoshida’s promoter, Lou DiBella, got her back into the win column against a tough opponent on February 1, when she defeatedBeata Dudek ka 10 ho pota ntsoe-leng qeto ea (99-91, 97-93, 96-94).
“Miyo is a three-time world champ and a trailblazing symbol for Japanese women as an athlete and single mom. I applaud the IBF for recognizing that Yoshida deserves the opportunity to regain her belt. We will continue to push for Miyo to get her title shot as soon as possible, and I am confident that we can work out a deal with MVP. They are in the business of making the best fights in women’s boxing. Undisputed Champ Cherneka Johnson vs. Miyo is a terrific match,” said Lou DiBella, President ofDiBella Entertainment.
“Lou has done a great job keeping Miyo active and creating great opportunities for her. The time is here for Miyo’s title match to finally get scheduled. Ka lehlohonolo, Jake and Nakisa are helping to change the landscape for women in boxing under their MVP banner,” stated Miyo’s manager, Keith Sullivan. “Congratulations to Cherneka, who fought a great fight and made history. The styles of Miyo and Johnson will make for an exciting, Fan-botsoalle loana. We have two promoters who firmly support women’s boxing, so I am confident we will get that title fight scheduled as soon as possible,” concluded Sullivan.
From ringside Friday night, Miyo said, “Johnson had the perfect fight plan. I respect her, but we’ll have a more intense fistfight. E le, let’s finally get my mandatory title fight scheduled. We’ll see in the ring who deserves to raise the belt as the IBF bantamweight champion.”
Miyo Yoshida, e tsejoang e le “Fighting Single Mother” a Japan, is a respected role model and was the recipient ofRing Magazine‘s “Most Inspirational Female Fighter” award in 2023. She is among just 23 female world champions from Japan and only the sixth to hold world titles in multiple weight classes.
Sullivan, a former New York State Athletic Commission Deputy Commissioner, also manages undefeated Brooklyn heavyweightPryce Taylor (8-0, 6 Kos) and Bronx NYPD officerNisa Rodriguez (3-1, 1 KO). Sullivan co-manages IBF Welterweight World title challengerPaddy “The Real Deal” Donovan (14-1, 11 Kos) and his cousin, pro-debuting middleweightJim Donovan, alongside coach and ex-world championAndy Lee.

SPRINGFIELD, Boima. (July 10, 2025) - Hona joale, unbeaten junior middleweightAnthony “ATV” Velazquez (19-0-1, 14 Kos) may be boxing’s best kept secret, but the plan is for him to make a major jump from prospect to title challenger in 2026.
Fighting out of Springfield, Massachusetts, the 29-year-old Valezquez has flown under the radar, never fighting a world rated opponent or showcased on a marquee event. His manager, Gunther Fishgold, has set the stage for a breakout 2026 for his talented Puerto Rican-American fighter.
The plan calls for Velazquez, who is a promotional free agent, to fight three times, starting July 19go th ka Mohegan Sun, plus two more times in 2025 or next January, to position him to be world rated and fight on larger stages by the first quarter of 2026.
“I want to be the best and I’m going to prove myself,” Valezquez remarked. “I’m boxing’s best kept secret, but everybody is going to know who I am very soon. I like this pace (fighting every 2-3 dikgwedi tse) because I’m always in the gym. No vacations; just the gym and home. This is my job and I’m working hard to keep my skills sharp. I get good work at our gym because my coach, Hector Bermudez, always has fighters in from around the world. I’ve sparred a lot with (world-rated welterweight) Rohan Polanco (16-0, 10 Kos), the Dominican Olympian, and I spar bigger guys, le eena o, like super middleweightSteven Butler (36-5-1, 30 Kos) – ‘Bang Bang’ – who was there getting ready for his fight (June 27, WKO4 vs. Jose de Jesus Macias). The work I get in the gym definitely helps me. It feels good fighting different people because they all have different styles.”
Team Velazquez hasn’t targeted any fighter in particular, but a natural foe is fellow New Englander, Chordale “The Gift” Booker (23-2, 11 Kos), of Stamford, Connecticut. Booker recently had his first world title shot, losing his challenge to unified (WBC & WBO) Super Welterweight World ChampionSebastian sendora (21-1-1, 14 Kos) by way of a stoppage in round 4. One non-New Englander on Velazquez’ hit list for 2026, mohlomong u ka, is welterweightAlexis “Lex” Rocha (25-2-1, 16 Kos), who is currently world rated at No. 1 (WBO), Se Ke Oa. 5 (IBF) le Ha ho. 9 (WBC), but only if he decides to move up to the junior middleweight division.Velazquez is at training camp preparing for his July 19go threturn in an 8-round bout vs.Terry Chatwood(12-3-1) ka Mohegan Sun a Uncasville, Connecticut, which is only a 1 ½ hour drive from Velazquez’ home in Springfield.
“I know Chatwood likes to box off his back foot and he’s tough,” Velazquez said, “but he has nothing I’m concerned with. I’m going to break him down and get him out of there. I’m comfortable in the ring. My defense and confidence have improved. And I enjoy fighting at Mohegan Sun because of its history in boxing and how close it is to Springfield. It’s like my second home (this will be his third fight there)."
