Warriors Signs Exciting Bantamweight Sergio Perales to Co-Promotional Contract

Warriors Boxing President Leon Margules proudly announces the signing of bantamweight Sergio “Time to Shine” Perales to a co-promotional deal, along with Julio Marines of Marines Promotions.

27-year-old southpaw Perales (24-2, 15 KOs) is a native of Brownsville, Texas, with an aggressive fan-friendly style, fast hands and good power. He turned professional at age 20 and had over 100 fights as an amateur. Currently ranked #5 in the IBF, Perales slowed his boxing career for a couple years to obtain his degree in nursing, but is now back full-time and looking to take on the world’s best bantamweights.

In his last fight, Perales won a thrilling TKO 10 over Texas rival and two-time world title challenger Raul Martinez. After nine rounds of action-packed brutality, Perales busy hands and sharp combinations finally wore Martinez down. After a knockdown, referee Rafael Ramos signified he had seen enough at the 35-second mark.

In May of 2013, Perales lost a very questionable decision to future world champion Stuart Hall. Fighting in Hall’s homeland of the United Kingdom, Perales appeared to outwork Hall in the majority of rounds, only to fall victim to a unanimous decision from the judges. The fight was for the IBF Inter-Continental Bantamweight Championship and propelled Hall into a world-title fight.

“I’m happy to be adding a fighter as exciting as Sergio to Warriors Boxing’s stable,” said Leon Margules. “He will step directly into the mix at 118 lbs and with his skills and exciting style, he will quickly become a favorite of fans worldwide. I have tremendous optimism for Sergio’s career.”

Julio Marines, who has been Parales’ promoter from the start of his career said “I think this deal is a great thing for Sergio. I’ve said for years that he’s the most talented bantamweight in the world. I’ve taken him as far as I can and now I’m trusting my partner Leon to take him to the next level. He’s done a lot of good for my other fighter, Roberto Garcia, and I know he’ll do the same for Sergio. We will take anyone in the world at 118 lbs. Sergio is a future world champion.”

It’s make or break for Sharif in rematch on Matchroom fight Pass show

When 32 year old Aji Sharif turned professional in 2013 he had high hopes with his sole defeat as an amateur coming at the hands of Olympic Gold Medallist Anthony Joshua.

His professional career started off in good fashion with 3 straight victories including a stoppage. His fourth professional fight was set for December 2013 on a Goodwin Promotions Matchroom fight pass show where he took on 6 foot 9 ins “The Giant” Imantas Davidaitis. Davidaitis had been to the UK shores before knocking out Sheffield prospect David Howe in two rounds.

“It was a fight I was happy to take” said Sharif. I needed to beat the likes of Davidaitis to move onto toSouthern Area title level. However 6 weeks before the fight my trainer Andy Edge decided that he needed to take a break from training and I was left without a professional training establishment. Looking back I should have pulled out of the fight but I stupidly went through with it.” Sharif continued “People around me tried to help but it just was not working”.

Sharif went through with the fight to get knocked down twice in the first round and then getting stopped in the second. “My Manager/Promoter and his family were great afterwards. They all came to my dressing room and I could see they were as upset as me. A week later I went to Steve’s offices and told him I wanted an immediate rematch. Steve was initially reluctant to do this but it is pride. I have to avenge this loss. Steve then went and got me the best training camp which will be revealed after the fight. I am in the best shape both physically and mentally of my life”

Sharif finished by saying “I really need everyone’s support in this rematch as it is a career make or break for me”.

Sharif will be back under the lights on another Matchroom fight Pass show as he goes to avenge the loss. There is no doubt that this is an intriguing undercard clash supporting the Larry Ekundayo v Dale Evans (British Welterweight title eliminator) Lee Markham v Jahmaine Smyle (English Super-Middleweight title) and Johnny Garton v Nathan Weiss (Southern Area Welterweight title) clashes.

The show also features former Premiership professional footballer Leon McKenzie in his first title shot when he takes on Ivan Stupalo from Croatia for the International Masters Super-Middleweight title.

13 fights in all and one of the best non mainstream tv cards to be shown for a long time.

Remaining tickets can be obtained from either www.goodwinpromotions.co.uk or from Aji Sharif himself at www.iboxingtickets.com

From CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Vasquez (17-0, 13 KOs) is aiming for his 10th consecutive knockout.  Lartey (17-2, 8 KOs, 1 NC), of Brooklyn, N.Y. by way of Ghana, has never been knocked down.

In the co-feature of the Goossen Promotions tripleheader, former longtime Cuban amateur star and current third-ranked WBC light heavyweight Humberto Savigne (12-1, 9 KOs, 1 NC), of Miami via Guantanamo, Cuba, will take on undefeated Craig Baker (15-0, 11 KOs), of Baytown, Texas, in a 10-round bout.

In the opening bout of the telecast, talented southpaw and WBA No. 7 ranked featherweight Claudio Marrero (17-1, 13 KOs), of Miami by way of the Dominican Republic, will face southpaw Orlando Rizo (18-5, 11 KOs) of Managua, Nicaragua, in an eight-round match.

Advance tickets priced at $238, $100, $60, $40 and $25 for students and military with valid ID (Box Office Only), plus applicable fees, for “The Pride of Pittsburgh III” are on sale through the Dick’s Sporting Goods Box Office at CONSOL Energy Center, Ticketmaster.com, all Ticketmaster outlets or charge by phone at 800-745-3000. Here’s what Vasquez had to say during Wednesday’s media workout:

SAMMY VASQUEZ

“Lartey has never been knocked out, but I definitely think I have the power to take him out.  It’s more of the plan of setting it up — I’m going to set it up and put him in positions that he hasn’t been in before to make him uncomfortable.

“I want to make him throw punches that he normally doesn’t throw so I can open him up and capitalize on his mistakes.

“Fighting in my hometown gives me extra motivation. That’s one of the main reasons why I always come back here to Pittsburgh, why I always bring boxing back here.  I just love the atmosphere that my fans give me when I fight.  I’m just honored to put on a show and give them a great fight.  Boxing has always been my dream and fighting in front of my fans in Pittsburgh makes it even better.

“I don’t feel like I’m in a position to be calling people out yet.  I still have a lot of things to prove and that’s what I’m looking to do on Friday.  I’m looking to prove myself and make a statement.

“I’m ranked pretty high, but there are plenty of names in front of me that I need to beat.  I want to start fighting the top guys — that’s my plan for 2015.

“Once I get that name and recognition where I can call people out, then that’s when I will do it. When I feel I am ready and worthy.  I need to get a win on Friday first.”
