Before Harrison enters the ring, learn more about the Detroit native and future star and what has gotten him to this point in his own words.

Harrison has boxing in his family

Not only is his father Ali Salaam a former professional welterweight, but his grandfather is former heavyweight contender Henry Hank. Harrison is trained by his father and is in the gym with him everyday.

It’s a father-son relationship. We have our ups and our downs, but nobody has my well being in mind more than my father.

Tamen, it was Harrison’s mother who encouraged him to start boxing….

Harrison was frequently suspended from school for fighting and while his parents encouraged him to stand up for himself, his mother saw a potentially dangerous path forming. She was able to convince him his father to take Harrison to the gym.

My dad didn’t want me to box but my mom got tired of seeing me get suspended. She told my dad to put me in the gym. My mom knew about boxing from him and said to take me to the gym and we never looked back.

Harrison was the second youngest of eight kids growing up

He was the second youngest of his three brothers and four sisters. He’s closest to his older brother Lloyd, 26, who still wraps his hands.

I was the test dummy for everything that was supposed to be tested out. I got the clothes second hand. I was young so I was the dummy. When wrestling came on, my older brother would do the ‘Rock Bottomon me and I would just get up and smile. All this stuff made me tougher.

His cousin is future NFL Hall of Famer Antonio Gates, who he teams up with for his greatest passion outside boxing

Harrison’s greatest joy outside of the ring comes from the team of youth football players he coaches for a team sponsored by Antonio Gates. Every day after training Harrison coaches the Michigan Bulldogs of the Advanced Youth Football League. They haven’t lost a game in three years.

My heart belongs to the kids. Every day I go out and work with those kids. Venonta jaro, they’ll move up to an older team and I’m going to miss them like crazy. If I wasn’t boxing, I wouldn’t do anything but be with those kids every day.

Born in Detroit, he hopes to raise the prominence of Detroit boxing nationwide

The Detroit-native has fought seven times in his home city as a pro, most recently in May 2014.

I feel like Detroit is still a hotbed for boxing. The publicity just hasn’t been there. People aren’t coming to Detroit like they used to and they don’t get the same opportunities. No one is out here on the forefront. There’s the same talent and caliber of fighters, it just takes somebody to open up the door so that the big names and big companies come back to the city.

He was managed by the legendary Emanuel Steward and has trained at the famed Kronk Gym

Harrison was managed by Steward but considered him more of a mentor and friend. While at Kronk he sparred with top fighters such as Cornelius Bundrage, Andy Lee, Dominique Dolton, Chad Dawson and Luis Collazo.

Emanuel was more than my manager, he was my friend. He did a little bit of everything. He took care of me. I would go on walks with him and I believed in him. He has a special place in my heart.

He is prepared for the step up in competition against Willie Nelson

Harrison will no doubt be facing the toughest opponent of his career so far on Julio 11 when he battles the experienced and dangerous Nelson.

I know Willie Nelson is a tough guy. He breathes the same air I breathe from this region and that comes with a lot of heart. Ohio has always had some of the top amateurs in the country and he comes from that area. His losses came against top competition. He’s a real dangerous fighter to fight.

He relishes fighting in the first PBC on ESPN bout

Harrison is fully aware that Julio 11 is a major opportunity for him. One that will further his goals of remaining undefeated and eventually becoming a world champion.

I’m the kind of guy to be the first fighter to do something [in the first PBC on ESPN bout]. If you want to try something out for the first time, I’m that guy. My brothers did it my whole life. If you want to make history, you call me. That’s the kind of person I am. I feel like I’m Mr. ESPN. I’m the kind of guy who makes history. I’m going to do it in impressive fashion. I think you’re going to see the best Tony Harrison you’ve ever seen. Mi venas al meti iun spektaklon. It’s going to be drama.

The boxing Americanization of 21-year-old Brit middleweight prospect Steed Woodall is off to promising start

Returning to ring Julio 8 in NYC

MIAMI (Junio 30, 2015) – Unlike most British boxers who first establish themselves at home in the United Kingdom before fighting in the United States, Steed “La Stallion” Woodall packed up and moved 1-½ years ago from Birmingham, England to Miami in order to pursue his boxing dream.

Kiel amatoro, Woodall was a five-time England National Champion, two-time British Champion, and quarterfinalist in the World Youth Championships. His aggressive style, has proven to be much better suited for pro boxing, evident by his impressive 7-0-1 (5 KOs) profesia rekordo.

I spend most of my time in the gym,” Woodall talked about his new life in America. “I don’t have any family here and my friends are from the gym. It’s been tough but I’ve been welcomed in America and I’ve really enjoyed living here. Lasta jaro, I arrived in Miami around the end of the summer and didn’t realize how hot it really gets until now. Every morning I walk outside and it’s still a shock when the heat hits me. It does prepare me for fighting under TV lights, I guess.

I’ve gained a lot of valuable experience sparring top guys in our gym (5Th St. Gimnastikejo). I was only 19 when I came here and I’ve learned how to be a professional boxer. I always felt my style and size would be better as a professional than as an amateur. I’ve worked on my jab a lot to be a better all-around fighter. I’ve had great sparring for my next fight with guys like Dyer Davis Kaj Ed Paredes. I travel around to get sparring, Tro, with experienced pros and some top amateurs to get a chance to work against a lot of different styles.

Woodall’s been preparing for his next fight, Julio 8 en ses-ronda atako kontraŭ Devaun Lee (4-1, 2 KOs), of nearby Jamaica, #Re?o, at BB King Blues Club in New York City, where he’s fought two other times for his promoter, Lou DiBella. Woodall is Irish on his mother’s side and he has a growing fan-base in the Big Apple.

It’s a great experience fighting in New York City, especially for somebody from such a small place like Birmingham,” Woodall noted. “Ĝi’s revo venita veran, fighting in America, right in Times Square. I’m living the dream.

I don’t really pay too much attention to my opponent. I fought world champions as an amateur, so I’m not overly concerned with my opponents. I just want to go and get the job done.

Woodall has also fought professionally in the Dominican Republic, Virginia and Florida.

Team Fight to Walk’s Briefing with Congress a major knockout!

Nov-Jorko, NY (Junio 28, 2015) – When Dr. Patricia Morton, D-ro. Wise Young and Captain Boyd “Rainmaker” Melson presented their case to Congress at a briefing in Washington, DC they had one goal in mind. The goal, which has been the focal point of Melson’s life since meeting Christan Zaccagnino 13 Jaroj #anta?e, is to see her walk again. Zaccagnino suffered a diving accident as a child that left her paralyzed from the waist down and has been confined to a wheelchair ever since.

A major step for Zaccagnino being able to potentially walk again would be congress approving a clinical trial to take place in the United States focusing on non embryonic stem cell research. The trial, which samples random patients, includes surgery and rehabilitation with the end result hopefully being that person walking again. In China, this trial produced great results under the lead of Dr. Young and a number of the patients were able to walk again following surgery and three months therapy.

an de junio 22, Morton, Young and Melson emphatically presented their case at the Rayburn House OfficeBuilding in our nation’s capital.

With a packed room filled with interested parties, D-ro. Morton, Director of Planning and Development for the Spinal Cord Injury Project, served as the moderator. D-ro. Juna, widely considered the best in the world for Spinal Cord Care, presented scientific data to support why the trial would be successful in America. Melson moved members of the audience and congress by detailing how he’s risked his life as a professional boxer to raise funds to cure Chronic Spinal Cord Injuries. S-ino. Ida Cahill, CEO of Conqueor Paralysis now, and Dr. Balpreet Grewal-Virk, whose father was paralyzed during Hurricane Sandy, also gave heartfelt speeches.

Entuta, each speaker played a key role by presenting different reasons why they believe the trial needs to take place and can be the reason hundreds of thousands of paralyzed Americans are able to walk again.

“Everything went perfectly,” said an ecstatic Melson. “Congressman Fattah really had our back too and I owe everybody who was there special thanks. Mardo was one of the most important days of my entire life and even though we may be waiting a little bit for the word if this trial officially gets the green light, my confidence is at an all-time high. Members of congress understood the importance of these trials and the results fromChina presented by Dr. Young can’t be denied. If this briefing were a fight, it definitely would’ve been a knockout in our favor!?

“This was by far my toughest fight, and my best win as a pro,’’ Wade said afterward. “I knew there was going to be a problem fighting an experienced, totally awkward guy like that. Really, it’s impossible to prepare for a fight like this. But I kept my poise throughout and that was a key.

“Soliman was physically fit, but not one thing he did surprised me. His punches weren’t anything. I thought it was a close fight, but I knew I landed the harder, cleaner shots. I wasn’t worried at all about the decision.

“I have more respect for Soliman now that I’ve fought him. He sure doesn’t fight like somebody that is 41-years-old. But I did what I had to do to get the win and take the next step up me.’’

Soliman, making his first start since suffering a knee injury last Oct. 14in an IBF title defense decision loss to Jermain Taylor, fought his fight. An energetic, herky-jerky veteran, who constantly moves, feints, charges in with punches, holds, grabs, hugs and sometimes even tackles.

His mauling unconventional style makes it almost impossible to look good against, but many, including Soliman, felt he landed enough clean punches to deserve the decision.

“I definitely felt I won, and I think Wade knows I won, Tro,’’ Soliman said. “He never hurt me once. My knee held up 100 Procento. The knockdown that he got credit for wasn’t even a knockdown. It didn’t come from a punch. He literally pushed me down.

“That everyone after the fight came up to me and said I won takes some of the sting out of not getting the decision. These kinds of decisions can bring some fighters down, but this will only make me stronger. I don’t agree with the decision at all, but this is boxing and I have to accept it.

“I really want to thank SHOWTIME for giving me the opportunity to fight on ShoBox. I think I showed the world tonight that I have a lot left.’’

Boxing historian and ShoBox sperta analizisto Steve Farhood poste: “It was a very difficult fight to score. It was very close. It turns out the difference was somehow controversial: Unofficial knockdown in round four. If you scored that round 10-8 for Wade, that was the margin of victory, one extra point that he got for round four.

“A good win for [Dominic] Wade, not a pretty win. He’s a legitimate Top 10 contender now because he beat a legitimate top 10 Konkuranto. And for [Sam] Soliman, he’s 41-years-old and he’s going to keep going. He’s not going to stop. Entuta, it was a good learning experience for Wade and a very very difficult ugly fight that could have gone either way.

There was much less drama in the two other televised fights presented by TGB Promotions.

En la co-#?efa?o, 19-year-old former amateur standout and talented unbeaten super welterweight Erickson “Hammer” Lubin (11-0, 8 KOs), of Orlando Fla., scored two knockdowns en route to a 2:49, Unue-ronda #knoka?to super Ayi Bruce (23-10, 15 KO’s) of Albany, N.Y., who was fighting for the first time in 16 Monatoj.

“I expected to take him out, maybe in a couple of rounds, but not that fast,’’ said the up-and-coming southpaw who is one of the youngest boxers to appear on ShoBox. “I took my time and was pacing myself. I don’t think he hit me once.

“I want to keep moving up and fighting better competition so I can become a true contender. I’m ready to fight again #Morga?. #?I-nokte, actually.’’

En la ShoBox opener, former international amateur star Oscar “Kaboom” Rivas (17-0, 12 KOs), a Montreal-based Colombian who represented Colombia in the 2008 Olimpikaj Ludoj, remained undefeated with a devastating 2:25 first-round TKO over outclassedJason Pettaway (17-3, 10 KOs), of Camp Lejeune, N.C.

A brutal, vicious puncher, Rivas was impressive in his United States andShoBox Debuto. He overwhelmed Rivas from the outset, scoring three knockdowns. He had two points taken away for hitting Pettaway late and while he was down after the first knockdown, but it hardly mattered.

While delighted with his performance, Rivas felt the points’ deduction was unwarranted. “I didn’t think he was on the floor,'' Li diris. “I didn’t think his knee was down and he was holding on to the ropes. So he wasn’t down and I kept punching.

“I feel very happy about my fight tonight. This was the opportunity I’ve been waiting for, fighting on a great network like SHOWTIME. I’m ready for bigger challenges now. I don’t care against who. I’m ready to take on the world.’’

Said Pettaway: “I definitely felt I was down and that it was a late shot. It definitely affected me. I never got a chance to show anything.’’

Rivas, looking to become the first boxer from Colombia to win a heavyweight world title, may have had something to do with that.

Unbeaten lightweight and former Marine and 2012 Usono. Olympic Team Captain Jamel Herring (12-0, 7 KOs), De Cincinnati, Ohio, whose scheduled ShoBox fight against Mexico’s Oscar Cortes was cancelled#?A?do when Cortes came in overweight, fought on the non-televised portion of the event and won a lopsided eight-round decision over Tijuana’s Hector Velasquez (56-26-3, 38 KOs).
